How are you guys backing up / restoring your setups as you upgrade your ROM versions ? Surely you don't re-install all your stuff every time.
Thanks !

For backing up:
Sprite Backup
Resco Backup
SPB Backup
PIM Backup by DotFred
Re-configure using SASHIMI or RC ready ROM's.
Do some research first... ...been discussed countless times on xda...

Sprite Backup has a ROM upgarde mode -- how do folks use it when reflashing? I've spent a lot of time loading programs from CABs, tuning settings, etc. I don't want to redo any of that when reflashing. What's the sequence of Sprite Backup actions which will preserve most of the setups?
It's very simple, enable Device Upgrade Mode, backup the device, flash your favourite ROM and restore it. Sprite Backup does the rest and your phone will be exactly the same as before you flashed. You may have to delete some redundant items from Windows/StartUp. That's it!
Hi,
How can I perform full backup on my diamond before flashing rom ? I've tried to perform backup using Sprite Backup, and after restore, the programs installed in internal memory cannot be found in Program folder. Also, seems other settings (like Bookmark of Opera) cannot be restored as well.
Anyone can give me hints please?
have a look into the diamond rom develpoment section!
I use SPB Backup wich detect the ROM flash. After that, the restoration ask if i want to restore with the "flashing rom mode". If i answer yes, i find my diamond as i left it before flashing the rom.
I am currently using a WM6 Crossbow rom and am considering downgrading back to the original Tmobile rom. When I backup all my files now using Sprite (of course) Will I be able to upload that file in WM5 with all my settings saved and applied accordingly? Which brings me to if I backup in WM5 will I be able to apply that too WM6?
Don't restore a backup to a different major version update of ROM, or you will get some weird result.
Can this be done with PIM backup instead of Sprite? I've used PIM backup when going between major versions and it seemed to be ok.
Yes, PIM Backup is not dumping the database directly, you can always backup and restore your PIM to different OS versions using it.
Just beware about downgrading AKU because the pim.vol format changed from AKU 1.x to 2.x. So, as long as the WM5 is AKU2 then you'll be fine.

Sprite Backup Tool
I can recommend SK-Tools backup. It is reliable and one can customize it a lot. Sprite Backup was supplied with my O2 XDA Diamond and I had several times the problem, that Sprite refused to Backup because of an unknown error shown on the screen. Perhaps because of a certain combination of installed apps, don't know.
With SK-Tools this never happend. In addition to this it is quit cheap and offers tons of other usefull functionality.
try Sprite backup and then Jeyo Mobile Companion for SMS (with threading) and Email etc.
I've used both sprite and spb in the past, and they have both worked fine for me when I restore after breaking something.
I haven't tried either one in the rom upgrade mode (I don't really trust them for that).
At the moment I'm using sprite 6.5
thanks for your help guys !
What some best practices that have been established in regards to using Clockwork Rom Manager's Nandroid backup along with Titanium Backup of all user apps + system data?
Seems each time I update to a newer ROM/Firmware, then restore using Titanium backup the PDA version changes as seen in *#1234#
Curious to know how everyone else is using the backup apps that are available for this device.
I just backup all user apps, I dont backup system data.
I always make a nandroid backup if im going to flash anything,.,.....and once i get a rom set up to my liking, then i make a backup of that as well.
This looks like something that should be a sticky just to keep a formal standardized process people can refer to when getting into flashing new firmware or trying new ROMS.
Thank you!
