hi all
Small question about HTC keyboard, locales, and Dream (and probably any device with physical keyboard).
So, I've installed Cyanogen ROM 4.2.1 and HTC keyboard (also prepared by Cyanogen).
I've added the second language to HTC keyboard by manually editing its xml prefs file, and it worked perfectly well.
The problem I'm dealing with right now is my physical keyboard behavior. HTC remapped some keys, and now Del key results in a local letter, double-tapping menu button switches to English, and search button switches to another locale.
Question to xda developers: is there any way I can change key mappings without recompiling the keyboard?
Thanks
I could't answer your question. But could you show me how to edit your second language dictionary in HTC IME. For now, I only add the new word and can't edit my own dictionary when I add a wrong word.
Sorry for my poor English

hi
I know nothing about HTC IME dictionaries.
It doesn't seem to relate to the built-in user dictionary editable from the Locale & text menu.
When I add a new word from within HTC IME, even when in English mode, it doesn't appear in the built-in dictionary.
I have no idea where HTC keyboard keeps its dictionary.
There are no db files under its folder (/data/data/com.htc.android.htcime). Do you know where the built-in dictionary is held?

I'm also interested in that question; I have a G1 from spanish Movistar and the alternative keys doesn't mach after flashing the NBH image related in cyanogen wiki. Any help would be appreciated.
Found! Key mappings are in the files in /system/usr/keylayout
grrrr, can't modify the files. Perhaps with adb...
The right thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468703
Perhaps this one (in spanish) can get you some clues: http://and.roid.es/foro/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=170&start=0&sid=77ac566269e43d318dd4a40b2cffc318 after

Dears,
Sorry for creating new thread but I cannot find answer anywhere.
I have bought HTC TyTN II and it is not localized standard version: English.
I use English keyboard everyday but I need Russian as well. I don't like crappy additional utilities and software, I want to install keyboard layout like in Windows XP, standard windows version.
Question is:
See attachment. You can see English keyboard layout with au button marked in red. Is it possible to have Russian letters by pressing this button instead of symbols I don't use?!
Thank you!
I have a similar problem. I can create a Polish letter like "ł" typing "l", "au-button" and "space". Unfortunatelly this is the only Polish letter I can type this way. I also need special symbols with a,e,o,c,s,n but typing any of this letter "au-button" and "space" create an accent or some Spanish symbol. Can this be changed?
Dear all, My Diamond has all the files to change dictionary and input in the windows directory. It is a matter of activating your language for text input. I have seen someone dioing it in Dutch but I would like to have Swwdish. Is there anyone who can help me in custimize the registry?

Hi, f you follow all descriptions that are made in dutch then you may figure out how to do it. I have managed to get the small qwertyy keyboard and the phonepad to work. The only thing is that when I go to input it is as the Dutch one; empty.
But still I managed the get the Swedish dict to work.
I will post description later (I'm travelling at the movement
Hi al,
I have copied some registry settings that allow the swedish kyeboard and phonepad to work. Just use Resco explorer with registry addon and dubbelclick on the files and you have Swedish keyboard.

I tested and it did not work. I could not get the Swedish layout.
I have tried many different suggestions, but there are no to work.
How did you do it
Have you done this steps.
Replaced PQwerty0d1d in the windows folder.
Import the reg file
Then you have the swedish åäö on the compact qwert and on the full qwerty as long press key
Let me know how it goes
Romanian and Hebrew?
Is there a way to use predictive input with the two languages above?
I usually write either in English or Romanian (rarely Hebrew). Can the T9 language be switched on the fly (more or less) between two languages?
Please note that I want my GUI interface to stay in English. Can't stand it in a different language...
Thank you for your help.

Thanks
There are a bunch of txt files in the windows folder
The txt files in the windows folder contains the characters and are mapped to the keyboard picture (The swedish pictures that gets change by running the reg file).
If you look int the reg file there are a lot of files that gets replced to the swedish ones for example "P20-Swdeish-capmap_up.png".
Remember to backup the orginal txt file and the replace with the new one.
Remember that there is no .txt at the end of the file in the windows folder.
I do not have swedish keybord on the phone pad or in the dialer but only on full qwerty (With åäö as longkey press keys) and the compact qwerty with åäö on the keybord.
I also have Swedish T9.
the only way I know how to switch between T9 Language is to install the cab here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402121&highlight=language and then use the gui to switch.
For more information about the txt file klick here
A complete n00b here, hi! Someone please explain to me how I can replace the PQwerty file in Windows directory. Resco Explorer complains that the file resides in ROM and cannot be deleted or replaced.
Resco Explorer couldn't do the replace, but Total Commander could. So, I replaced the file, imported the .reg file and achieved a partial success.
Full QWERTY has issues with CAPS/SHIFT button: I can't write capital letters. Also, it seems that input switches over to T9 automatically whenever I bring up a keyboard. Compact QWERTY behaves a bit oddly as well; it seems to bring up T9 mode even though T9 is clearly disabled.
Well, this is still better than before...
How do you enable keyboard layouts for languages other than English in the HTC_IME virtual keyboard? Searched the forum but have not found the answer.
Have seen few ROMs with "customize" folder but contents seemed to be very messy and repetitive with HTC_CIME settings thrown in as well...
In one post Haykuro suggested to delete "customize" folder to enable all languages and layouts and this certainly shown more locales, yet the keyboard layout I am looking for, Russian, was not available.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't like the HTC_IME only for english and the CIME only for chinese? I'm sure you can find a nice russian vk on the market though. Have you searched there? Sorry I wasn't very helpful. Try to look into it for you!
As a matter of fact HTC_IME includes resource file that shows a switch from English to Russian keyboard layout. In one of the ROMs, Ravenge's ramjet I even had it working (Settings button would turn into Ru / En switch). There are certainly few russian keyboards available out there but I would really like to get HTC working because it seems most feature full.
In addition, I would like to understand structure of "customize" folder because it seeems that it allows other mods as well.
I have taken customize folder from one of the JAChero roms and removed everything that was not IME specific, placed it into the Cyanogen 3.6.2 rom that I am currently running. After going to Settings and switching locale to Russian and back to en_US, but not changing keyboard layout (because only English was listed) I had what I was hoping to get, an HTC keyboard with Russian to English switch. What bothers me is that Russian keyboard layout was not listed at all.
Does anyone have any information on how customize folder works?

This folder is processed by HTC custom settings provider on first boot. Afterwards settings are served through some service. Decompiling HTC_IME may help to find a way to emulate this behavior.
I'm unable to get RU/EN switch with EN interface on recent Cyanogen builds (4.x) - only with Russian UI which looks really ugly in many places %(
Hi all,
I would like to know how to add a new input/keyboard language on a Kaiser...
I would especially need the french language to be available on my Kaiser, will installing this file "t9 french.cab" would work? Will it mess up the actual english xT9 settings?
Thank you all for your time and support,

Hi all,
I installed "T9 French.cab" but it doesn't seem to work, I still haven't found a way to type those special french characters like "é, à, è", how can I do that?
Does xT9 uses the same files as T9? Make note that I installed "T9 French.cab" and NOT "xT9 French.cab", could it be the problem? If so, is there such an "xT9 french.cab" file available?
Unfortunately, while I was playing with the language/keyboard options on my HTC Kaiser (w/ slide-out qwerty keyboard), something else got messed up and let me try to explain it:
I do have several options regarding the input type: Block Recognizer, Keyboard, Letter Recognizer or Touch Input. I honestly prefer using the "Touch Input" way which still works fine in Portrait mode but the problem is within the Landscape mode... the keyboard is no longer in full screen size, it stays in a smaller size, more intented for the Portrait mode, have a look at the attached screenshot.
How to repair/restore the Touch Input settings?
Thank you all for your time and support,
highmighty

Hello! I am finally a new happy owner of a Galaxy Note!
Its not perfect, I think the Dell Streak was easier to use (very hard to hold it in left hand and NOT press Power, Volume Up/Down buttons).
Anyway - I have much more serious problem:
Any outgoing SMS message in hebrew, is seen as question marks by the recipient (even using another Android phone as well).
Only clue that I have is, when I finish typing the message and click on Send, I get Warning (Attention) as follows: "Message may be corrupted on recipient device. Change input mode to automatic"
I am not sure what this mean?
My other problem, is that no other keyboard (like Anysoftkeyboard, or Swype), seem to allow language swapping using the Spacebar - which I found very comfortable (and swype not supporting hebrew at all) - so I must find a way to incorporate Hebrew into the Samsung Keyboard please.
Another potential issue, is that I feel the Stylus might not be functioning correctlly - it requires more pressure than I am used to, with my Dell Latitude XT2, which I use to write all lectures and practice at uni - perhaps something is wrong with my pen? or is it right that I have to apply what I would define as "moderate" pressure for it to even register on the Note taker?
ok, I solved my own problem for SMS:
When in Messaging center, click Menu, then Settings and go to Input Mode - change it to Automatic.
Hope it helps others who search for this dumb default setting on GSM alphabet (why??)
Still having the problem with Hebrew for the Samsung keyboard to switch using Spacebar
how did u get the hebrew keyboard to work, as when i try to type in hebrew the keys are not displayed correctly

I am using AnySoftKeyboard, with added Hebrew keyboard addon.
It works fine, keys are displayed correctly out of the box Samsung ROM.
that is so weird because I have also used anysoftkeyboard and the Hebrew addon but the characters are not displayed correctly at all.
Although I have the Arabic rom installed which has RTL support
very weird
hmm, mine does not have Arabic option.
Is there any chance the distributor in your country decided on his own to make Hebrew intentionally not work on their ROM? (unlikely, but not unimaginable...)
Your alternative is to reflash the ROM to one Euro version.
Go settings-->Application-->All-->Messaging-->Clear Data
Hope this helps.
I need to add Portuguese language to the Note II T889. I know the Note II N7100 has it on it. How can this be done? Anyone? There has to be a way to import the Portuguese Language if the N7100 has it on it??!!??
