OK, i've read enough noob posts looking for help here to know what wikis to read since instead of helping, thats usually the answer. So for starters, I've read:

Please please help me, I am so confused from all this. I see that the most popular ROM is the Dutty's WM6.1 hybrid, so I was going to try this. But my radio on my tilt says 1.27.14.09. I do not see any of those ROMs with that Radio. Are the radios interchangeable? Believe me when I say I have tried to search, but I guess my searching skills suck. I am confused about what radios go with what and which one I should use. Up until a few moments ago I thought "radio" referred to something you use to listen to music in the car. heh
I've got HardSPL and was on my way to downloading the Dutty ROM but ran into this. I havn't flashed the HardSPL yet. I am concerned abotu all the talk about graphics drivers and slow performance with the camera and sound and was hoping that one of these cooked ROMs took care of that. Will this add the needed graphics drivers to my Tilt?
I know you all are sick of noobs, but I'm really trying and just want to make my Tilt work the best it can. Thanks in advance for all your help. And if this isnt the right forum, please move it to where it belongs. Much thanks!

1. the radio you have is a WM6.0 radio. It will NOT work with WM6.1 which is what the rom you mentioned is.
2. You definitely need to get HardSPL flashed first. Not jumpslp. ONLY HARDSPL.
3. The video issue for me is minimal if that. I use Coreplayer and the video playback is perfectly fine.
4. The camera will always be weak. Nothing you can do about that without HTC fixing. it.
Hope that answered all you questions.
some rom's only work with some radio's (i think dutty includes compatible roms usually)
the cooked roms are faster than the standard rom so i wouldn't worry about the driver issue (that might be solved real soon anyway)
Thanks thanks! I will look for a ROM with my radio specifically then. That was really throwing me off and was not aware that a WM6.1 would not work with my phone. Will do the HardSPL right now and will look for Coreplayer. Thanks again loads.
OK, question again (sorry) but in Dutty's WM6.0 ROM there is this question and answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361544
Q: I can’t hear any sound after flashing. When I make phone calls I can’t hear the other person either.
A: You need to use a NON-ATT radio. 12.32 is a proven radio. You can find them on the ftp as well.

Does this mean I can change the radio version and be able to use one of the newer ROMs? I'm just worried that Dutty's WM6 ROM is from January which is older than the Feb. HTC AT&T Tilt Rom I got from the HTC website.
Maybe I should wait since I read the post about new video drivers for HTC phones that should make the phone work better?
Sorry for the confusion.
Radio
1. Yes radios are interchangble
2. Some roms are compatible only with certain types of radios
2. A chef might or might not include a compatible radio. Best is to check in the specific rom thread

You don't need to look for a rom that is compatible with your radio. You can find a 6.1 rom that includes a compatible radio. There are many on this site

WHOA, I think you misunderstood. If you want a 6.1 rom, you just need a 6.1 compatible radio. To make this as painless as possible, I suggest you find a 6.1 rom with the radio included, such as Dutty & Laurentius. Good luck.
It's all in the links you linked and in plain english, but still hard to understand.
These are the ones that are for WM6.1 roms (as mentioned on each listing). You will need to mix and match to see which works best for you and your area. I hope this gives you a better understanding of how to read this. It all came out of the last link you posted..

Ok, I think the muddy water is getting less cloudy, heh. So I need to find a ROM that has a radio with it and it will work... probably. The Radio FAQ says the 1.64.08.21 radio is the best for GPS and best for battery life but has to be used with WM6.1. But it says it is "UK". OK, so I went into that thread and, sparse as it is, people are saying it is a "vodaphone" and "UK" radio. Does this mean that it will only work in the UK with whatever "vodaphone" service? I live in the US and have AT&T service.
So, from what I've learned so far, it looks like I need to get Dutty's hybrid WM6.1 [Apr 29] (I'm assuming hybrid means the radio ROM 1.65.14.06 is included), thats a WWE radio (whatever that means). Because the radio 1.64.08.21 is for the UK I cant use it in the US (another assumption on my part).
So, when I flash it, does that mean its going to automatically work with my AT&T service, or are there some settings somewhere that will let it know what carrier and who I am.
I sure wish you guys could see how confusing this is to a total noob ROM flasher. hehe I sure do appreciate all your help.

You don't HAVE TO find a rom with a radio in it. You have access to all of the radios. Find the rom you like, if it happens to not have the proper radio, then you now know where to get ALL of the 6.1 radios. After that test each one if you can't decide which is best.

As with any noob, I think your fear of the situation blinds you of the obvious. These wikis (as dry as they are) are extremely straight forward. If you start with the understanding that they provide everything you need then you will understand more. I hope.
OK, thanks for all your help. I wish that Radio wiki had a little more fundamental information about radios for us noobs. I mean, until you just told me, I was unaware that you could use any radio with any ROM, which in turn can be used on any kaiser/tilt (I assume). It could also have the steps one would go through to put the new radio in their phone. The advantages and disadvantages of each (assuming there are any since there are so many to choose from), etc. Ya know, whats the differences between WWE, Polaris, UK, etc and should I be concerned about that? Something more robust than just a listing of the different radios, if thats what a noob is going to be pointed to for radio questions. Just from the standpoint of a newbie knowing nothing about any of this and wanting to improve the phone they just got.
Thanks guys for your help. I think I have enough information now to start down the road to flashing my Tilt. And thanks for steering me in the right direction.

It's all in the wiki info for flashing roms.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
You can check the version of your Radio ROM when you click Start > Settings > System > Device Information or booting your device (there will appear three lines of red text. The Radio ROM version is the number after the R:.
You can download Radio ROM's at the xda-developers FTP-Server in the Uploads/Kaiser/Radio-Folder. Username and password are both 'xda'. To install it, download, extract and execute it. Then follow the instructions on your screen. Flashing a Radio does not delete any files on your device's ROM.
To choose the perfect Radio ROM for you check this thread.

OK, well, not to be argumentative, but you just pulled information from a whole nother place I assume, since thats not in the radio wiki I was pointed to... sheesh. Its very confusing to someone who doesn't know the layout of this place. Also, the differences in the radios isn't addressed. Whats a "Polaris", whats a "WWE" etc? And yes, I said its a listing of the radios and what WM they work with. But what does that tell me as a noob? I have no idea what that stuff means.
Take for instance, the guy I just helped. It took me one post to send him to the exact place that answered his exact question. How hard is it to just point a person who is asking a question to the place that answers it? Why say "Read the wiki."?
It seems its easier to actually help with someone who's asking for it than to argue with them why they don't really need your help, and just go read the wiki.

" Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." end of story.
Recently got myself a HD (in the UK on Orange), works fine, it's as it came out of the box.....
Would I benifit by upgrading the software/ROM on the device, there seems to be alot of info on this site about this subject but im new to this device and rather confused by it all at the moment.
Does upgrading the ROM improve the use of the phone and if so could anyone recommend a version to upgrade too and if possible point me in the direction of info on how to go about upgrading etc.
I know this is probably covered a lot on here, there are lots of threads regarding ROM's etc but they all seem to be people who already know what they are doing??
Any help much appreciated

Ahhh, yes, there is a lot of info here... I can't believe I am doing this, but I am bored stiff at work, so, rather than just sending you off to read up on the wiki, I will try to answer your question, or at least preface my statement that you should go and read up on the wiki
An upgraded version of an official ROM is intended to improve upon the performance (i.e., speed and stability) previous versions and incorporate new technology/features, etc. Sometimes upgraded official ROMs are quite an improvement over earlier version. However, a good cooked ROM (a custom ROM made by a developer on this site, for instance) makes a HUGE difference for Windows Mobile devices. These ROMS generally are mush faster, more stable, more innovative and more user friendly than shipped ROMs. In fact, there usually is no comparison between an official ROM and a good cooked ROM, IMHO.
Beware though, flashing cooked ROMs is also addictive, and you may find yourself flashing a new ROM onto your device way too often (seriously).
In terms of pointing you to where you can upgrade and how to do it, unfortunately, you cannot upgrade to a cooked ROM on the HD yet, as something called "Hard SPL," which allows you to safely (i.e., without ruining your device) flash non-official ROMs onto your device, has not been released yet. You apparently can change official ROMs, but as you are new, I would suggest you wait on that. If you want to take a look anyway, see the last several posts on the stickied "Hard SPL...Placeholder" thread above (this thread will also alert you on the status of Hard SPL).
Until Hard SPL comes out, you can take a look at the Wiki pages (link is in brown bar near top of screen) for previous HTC phones (Diamond, Kaiser, polaris, etc.), as there are quite a few "Upgrading Guides for Beginners" that explain what Hard SPL and all of the other confusing stuff in these posts means. Here is an example for the Diamond: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
Anyway, I hope this was at least somewhat helpful and I hope you stay interested and start flashing when Hard SPL and some cooked ROMs become available.
Good luck!
I am so glad someone asked this.

No problem. Although I am sure it is clear from the guide itself, just want to be sure that I state that this guide was prepared by Tnyynt (thanks!), not me.
With hundreds (guessing) ROMs now posted for the TP2 is there a way to get a gauge on which ones are better at what things. WITHOUT LOOKING AT EVERY ROM POST. I want to upgrade from 6.1 but every post ROM I have looked at seems to have some caveat about this or that not working (GPS, MMS, etc.). Its very difficult to contrast and compare the different ROMs. Maybe we can develop a form that devs can complete when uploading a ROM to give a clear, concise, and standardized view of the features and caveats on their ROMs. This would make it much easier to decide which one to use.
Thanks to everyone that has ever posted a meaning message to this forum.
EDIT: I am not complaining about the caveats. This is about the information that we need to know about the ROMs available. I want to make an informed decision on which caveats are acceptable to me. Sorry if it reads poorly.
Yeah most cooked roms dont have near to polish of a stock rom. However, most of these guys build these roms for basically free. The "scene" is drivin by its member so if you want something done that noone else is doing you should work to make it happen yourself. Its not like your a customer and get to complain...
Good idea for sure tho.
Great
Thats a great idea I hope that it happens.
I know what you mean, and I agree with you to a certain extent. When I first came here, I was totally confused and bewildered by the number of different ROMs. There's certainly no way you can read the whole thread for each ROM, there's way too much.
I think you'll find the ROMs are a lot more stable than you think. If you want to stick with stability, I'd go with Sense (TouchFlo3D) 2.1, not 2.5. But that still gives you plenty of choice. Have a look at some screenshots, see if there's one that looks nice to you and seems to contain the features you need, try flashing it and see how you go. If you don't like it, you can easily change and flash a different one.
Or another approach is to look at the threads which seem the most "popular" and try one of those, banking on there being a lot of people to help you, in the same situation, and that "so many people" can't be wrong ?

Whoo Dude... back off. Im not complaining about anyones work. Nor am I knocking ANY of the work done here. This is simply a feeler to see if the cooks would be up to it standardizing the info about their work and if its a good idea or not. Notice I said "Maybe WE can develop...", that includes me.
Good Idea
I think u right there. The cooks are done a fantastic jobs their to provide us with such amount of their free time and fabulous ROMS. However, each cook choose a different orientation for their ROM, i mean some want to have max free mem, others go for esthetics, etc etc.
It would be nice if we can have a sort of specs (hmmm well i hope u get the idea here) that we can check to know which type of ROM it is, which is working or not and so on and so on.
If I created a list (word or excel) of all features and functions of the TP2 then had the cooks complete them for the ROMs and send them to me. I could then compile them all into a database that would display ROMs side by side with a feature list checkbox table. (No sense making the cooks do alot of initial data entry... that stuff sucks. ) We could then make direct comparisons of each one. All they would need to do is keep me updated with the latest ROM info and I can keep the DB updated. Once the feature list is stabilized I could turn on the feature where they could be able to update the info themselves.
I don't mind doing the development of this if the cooks are up for this idea. I can't cook a ROM but I can code a db/website.
I see there is a radio rom here that you can flash that supposedly increases battery life and signal now does this rom work with Damage's rom (i prefer as video works) also if you do flash to this new rom what are some downsides to using it can you revert back to default radio?

heres your answer young lad.
auxney: okay, that was unnecessary.
as for your question, was it really necessary to make a thread about this? if you saw the radio posted on a thread, simply click it and read the directions. use search to see if it works on damagecontrol. it makes things a lot faster and gets the forum less cluttered. there's even a tutorial on geekfor.me step by step for flashing the radio.

as for your question, was it really necessary to make a thread about this? if you saw the radio posted on a thread, simply click it and read the directions. use search to see if it works on damagecontrol. it makes things a lot faster and gets the forum less cluttered. there's even a tutorial on geekfor.me step by step for flashing the radio.
