Hello all,
I just snagged an unlocked Xperia X1a from eXpansys and was wondering if Hard-SPL unlock is required for the units that were sold unlocked?
TIA...
Yep a Hard-SPL is required.
Only if you're going to flash a custom ROM. If you're using a stock ROM, no need to hard-SPL

I want to install WM6 on my trinity and starting from zero:
So far I gathered that I either need to CID unlock or install HARD SPL.
If above is true what are the advantages/disadvantages one over another?
Does it make sense to do a superCID unlock and then install HARD SPL?
Your device has a specific Carrier ID, which only allows you to install official ROMs from that carrier.. CID unlock allows you to install ROMs from any carrier. As far as i knew, CID unlock voids your warranty and *i think* is not reversible (correct me if i'm wrong someone)..
Hard-SPL gives you the same benefits as a CID unlock, allowing you to flash unsigned ROMs to your device. However, it is reversible, and Hard-SPL protects you in case of a bad flash (corrupted image or whatever) allowing your device to remain in bootloader rather than bricking forever.
I recommend hard-spl, but if you've CID unlocked then you should still use hard-spl for the protection it gives..
for flashing instructions you can check out my website (in my signature)
Hi,
Hi have a HTC p3600 CID locked if I HARD SPL the new WM6 roms will I be able to install default HTC WM5 roms ?!
Thank you!
yeah you can
not strictly true:
if you CID unlock, you will be able to flash any official HTC ROMs to the device.
with Hard-SPL, you will also be able to flash custom ROMs since the signature check is patched to always return true.
Thanks for the help - good trinityguide for newbies. I just printed and will be using it.

ah i see.. so CID unlock still doesn't allow you to flash custom roms?

I wanted to sell my Cingular 8125 back on eBay. What do I need to unlock? I am confused about CID unlocking / SIM unlocking ...
The device works perfectly, I have installed mfrazzz WM6 version 4.
Thanks!

Is it a G3 or G4 and how much do you want for it?

If you have a cooked rom on it already, I'm guessing it is already unlocked. My suggestion, use the WST to do a check. CID unlocked allows for custom roms. SIM unlocking allows for other providers. A quick glance at the stickies or wiki would explain it more, that's why we have them. They will also help you determine what (if anything) needs to be done to your device.
Hi friends
Ok, I'm a newbie here. I just unlocked my SIM on my HTC Blackstone (the phone was locked to Orange UK). Is it possible to flash the ROM to a norwegian ROM without bricking the phone?
Regards
SIM lock is not the same as CID lock
CID=Carrier ID
This means that only ROMs from the specific carrier you are locked to can be flashed.
There is currently no CID-unlocker/Hard-SPL available whick allows you to flash other ROMs than your own CID.
Best regards,

i got this t-mobile g1. unlocked gsm. previously locked through t-mobile i think. the phone was given to me and had it unlocked by a friend. now that friend is gone. want to install a custom rom on it. if i do so following the wiki guide for g1, will it lock me again? or will it be unlocked once i flash the custom rom?

Im think if you have it unlocked and you install a custom rom, it wont lock it again. if its locked and you put a custom rom, im sure it wont be unlocked

No, it will not lock again. Just be prepared for a lengthy bit of research should a custom install goes awry. Backup, backup, backup.
Dear,
a clarification about it. I have the SO-02G and it is in the config as unlocking not allowed... I can root, I can install the recovery but I cannot flash new / different ROMs.
I see other with the same device of mine but with custom rom: did that model is available with locked and unlocked BL?
Which one is the way to force mine if so?
Cheers
