i had set up a hotmail acc using the below method.
Just config it manually.
First, create an account with some unknown email address such as [email protected] (we will change back later) then edit account settings and use these parameters.
Incoming mail server : pop3.live.com
User name: Your FULL email address ex. [email protected]
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server : smtp.live.com
Check those 2 boxes. (require authentication & same username)
Click Advance server settings. Check another 2 boxes.
Done.
it works well in notifying mi once i receive a new email with syncing every 5 minutes. but the thing is i cant send any email out and i cant manually sync by clicking "send/receive"
any solution?

But why you start to configure this with unknown email?
Don't get it.
Maybe you have some settings wrong...
I have the same problem, worked fine last week.
Setting up with a non hotmail address allows you to put in the live.com pop3 and smtp settings.

He's just using that as an example! lol
resent problems with MS hotmail servers i think as i've spoken to a number of people that have intermidant issues.
Since your setting it up manually, have you tried using the mobile email server of your Mobile provider? or even a googlemail smtp as the sending server?
as you can imagin you don't have to use the same service smtp server as your pop3 incomming server

so what do u mean by i do not need to use the same service smtp server as your pop3 incomming server?
i used this method is becoz i tried using the Windows Live application but i cannot activate push mail for it, like to sync once i receive email or what, as i need to manually Send/Receive to update my mailbox for new mails.
so i searched the forum for solution and found this method (using a fake address initially den changed it back). its push mail works fine with sync every 5 mins. im able to receive email automatically.
initially when i set up email with this method, i tested the incoming and also sending emails it works perfect. but now don't know what happen suddenly when i want to send email i can't. it has error out of sudden.
any solution? or any recommendation on other outgoing server can i use? btw i'm using hotmail acc so can any1 recommend a server that works with my hotmail acc with POP3.live.com incoming server?
thanks alot
greatly appreciate if anybody can give any help.
wats the point to have push mail if i cannot reply

I configured this per directions on the Gmail site and now have it listed as one of my email accounts. I can even send messages, but can not yet receive. Also, it hangs on the "Looking For Changes" screen and never says "finished" as my other email accounts do. I am wondering if anyone else has tried to configure yet, and if anyone is having luck?
Works ok for me on an HTC Touch. Have you enabled IMAP in Gmail? It's under settings >> Forwarding and POP/IMAP. If you don't see IMAP, it's not been setup for your account yet by Google.

I answered my own question, helps if you just show a little patience, never been my strong suit! For anyone else as impatient as me, a few tips. Make sure you manually configure your email settings. If not, it will not pick up the incoming server as an IMAP server. So, long story short simply follow the below instructions and voila, you will be up and running in no time.
Configuring other mail clients
You can use the following information to configure IMAP with many mail clients. If you encounter difficulties, we suggest contacting your mail client's customer support department for further instructions -- we're unable to provide assistance with configuring mail clients not listed here.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including @gmail.com)
Email Address: your full Gmail email address ([email protected])
Password: your Gmail password
I noticed that some of my emails aren't fully downloading in IMAP mode. I switch it back to POP and the same email comes up completely. In IMAP mode, the body of the email is blank. Any ideas?
It sounds like you are only downloading the headers. Depending on which mail client you are using, you need to change the settings to download both the header and body of each message, or you can download them as you view them (usually by right-clicking a message and selecting "download").
Not working for me... Guess they havent updated my account to work with the the new IMAP servers!
In Progress
I have 2 accounts. 1 is updated to include IMAP, The other isn't.
Keep in mind if not already mentioned, Language selected in settings must be English (US).

Nope. Made sure the selection was to download the entire email and the entire attachment. Which brings me to another topic. Even when in POP3 mode with those selections made, I still have to manually download the email and attachments.
But, no, still unable to see the emails. It's funny though because it indicates that the entire file was downloaded.
Having a few problems with email. I can't find any way of managing email accounts in WM6. I am currently trying to sync with my companies exchange server. I have all the details I need but when I try to add an email address via Start > Messages > Messaing > New Email account" I get stuck.
It asks me for my email address. I uncheck the 'find settings on the internet' box thing. It then asks for my name and pop3/imap4 server address. I assume this is trying to setup the wrong type of email as I was expecting to be able to select 'Exchange Server' but I am not getting the option to do so.
Am i doing something retarded?
Thanks
Jon
To connect to exchange server directly you go to active sync on your device and "Configure Server"
Don't know what your doing but for me it works fine.
Exchange for skool mail.
Pop3 for Mobile private website mail.
Outlook sync for Private website mail.
It gave me the option the first time I did it but not anymore. Is it only possible to sync with one exchange server and that I have to delete the first attempt before trying to add another?
Also, is there a way of managing the email accounts in WM6 as I want to delete a couple of test accounts I have been playing with and cant seem to find out how to get rid of them.
Thanks
Jon
Open an email or SMS account.
Tap Menu, Tools, Options.
That takes you to a screen where you can add or delete accounts as well as change connection settings for them.

You can only sync with one exchange server.
Think I have most things sorted now. The only issue I cannot resolve is I am not being alerted when a mail arrives in my live messenger account. I get the alert when it lands in the inbox but am not being alerted if one of my message rules sends it to one of my custom folders.
Gmail on my Kaiser works fine generally, but I'm having problem with the sent mails. Each mail is sent twice whether replying or writing a new one. It's just gmail, not any other mail account I configured (yahoo, live mail). I don't know what's wrong, but it's really annoying. (Flexmail doesn't do that). I don't like flexmail so I think default would just be fine, only if it works fine.
That's how Gmail works. Do you have Gmail set up via POP or Imap?
If you go to GMails Website, You notice it has "conversation view" in replied to messages. I believe that may be what's going on.
I know about conversation view. When I send a message this is sent twice. I have configured gmail as Imap

Do you mean the person you send the e-mail to gets 2 e-mails? I've got Gmail POP on my Kaiser and have no issues, i've also got Live, Work POP, and synced Outlook and i've not run into this issue. Can you list your IMAP settings?

Exactly! I have other accounts too, like Yahoo/Live/outlook but no problem on them, just the gmail. Here's the IMAP settings.
incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
Account type: IMAP4
user name: [email protected]
password:
outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
outgoing server requires authentication: checked
use the same user name...: checked
Require SSL for incoming e-mail: checked
Require SSL for outgoing e-mail: checked
Automatic Send/Receive: Every 2 hours
Same problem, same setting. I think this is a gmail server site bug, not a prob that we can solve.

i have my g-mail setup EXACTLY like it says on the gmail site
Settings -> Forwarding and POP/IMAP -> follow those to a Tee.
i was having all kinds of weird problems and then i followed that and disabled CAPTHCA which isn't related but recommended. Once all setting were finished it was working perfect, so please set it up first and see if it helps.

Are you sure you do not have "Keep copies of sent items in Sent folder" set? (WM -> Messaging -> Tools -> Options -> Message)
If you do & are using IMAP then copy that goes through gmails smtp servers will appear & the Local Sent folder will be synced with gmail hence 2 copies.
I had the same problem because I wanted to keep my sent sms messages and it's a global setting but with the threaded sms chat in 6.1 it is safe to turn it off.
I see, i've got POP setup on mine and have never experienced anything like this.
I have a Tilt with Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700
This is happening to me as well. Using gmail imap, the phone wants to save sent items in the sent folder, which creates a "sent items" label in gmail. Any mail sent from your phone then get placed into gmail's default sent items folder and also in the "sent items" label. I went to the message tools, and the Message tab and unchecked "Keep copies of sent items in sent folder", but the phone keeps creating the "sent items" folder.
I know that on WM 6.0, when setting up imap, you could go into some advanced options and specifically set it to not save sent messages on the server, but that option is replaced with "When deleting messages: delete the off the server / Move them to server trash". If you set the option to the latter, you'll get another label called "imap/trash".
I haven't been able to figure out how to tell it to not save sent messages on the server and not create the unwanted label.
If anybody knows the secret, I, and others, would appreciate some input.
Thanks.
Does anyone know how I can get 2 hotmail account on my mail tab? Currently I can only use one and if I want to goto my other account I have to switch accounts through windows live.

Don't use Windows Live...
Create an account but trick it
Instead of typing in [email protected] which redirects you to use Windows Live, type in something like [email protected] or something wierd. It will take you to the manual setup wizard.
Follow the Wizard Prompts and enter these where appropriate:
Incoming Mail Server: pop3.live.com
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.live.com
(check Server requires Authentication and "use same name/pw for sending")
-Under Advanced Settings, check both Incoming/Outgoing SSL options

Hey it worked..You guys ROCK!!
Great information. Thanks for the help.
The messages do not seem to have the same status as the hotmail versions.
ie. If i have read the message already, it still shows as unread when it arrives at my phone.
Is there a way around this??
Also, can the device be set to auto download images when it gets the message?
(I have unlimited data tarriff so am noth worried about size.)
Thanks.
Great solution for Windows Live/Hotmail Users!!!!
This is wonderful, especially since I track multiple Live/Hotmail accounts ... and no more dependency on Windows Live!
Woo hoo!!!!!
this is awesome, lol, great info, thanks so much
as of above.
i used gmail on my cruise both wm6.1 & wm6.5 it should be the same for topaz,
settings from here:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78886
I use Gmail, the phone will automatically set it up for imap.
I'm using both gmail and hotmail on the D2; I found hotmail much better for the diamond2
The reasons are:
First, gmail will retrieve the email from the past 30 days; where hotmail will grab a constant window of 50 mails.
But most importantly, as soon as an email is sent to my hotmail account, it appears on the d2; whereas gmail will check the email every hour.
I'd be very interesting if there was a way to have the hotmail behaviors with my gmail account.
i dont know what i missed out, it just never connect to the gmail.
That's strange. I also have no problem with Gmail.
My gmail account work but how to setup gmail account for push email, instant email?

I use Gmail with POP3 access.
Incoming Mail Server = pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server = smtp.gmail.com
Check "Outgoing server requires authentication"
At Advanced Server Settings
Check "Require SSL for incoming e-mail"
Check "Require SSL for outgoing e-mail"
Make sure the correct Network Connection is selected.
Hope this helps.

If you want push gmail you'll need to use imappusherservice, i recommend this version as it does auto-restart if the connection is interruppted (the main one just craps out).
Following copied out of the readme.
This is an unofficial "patch" version of version 0.6.0 of ImapPusher Service (http://imappusherservice.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=17672), written by codeplex user gmurray.

Nothing to dl on this link, it say "This Project has no releases"
Hi,
I use Gmail thru Imap and it rocks smoothly. First of all you have to understand what "archiving" email is intersting with gmail.
If you classify quickly your emails or archive them ( you have to get some often in web mode) you will then download only the emails in the Inbox ( not all emails !!!).
Also you can setup how old emails you wish to get 3/7 days...
Gmail works fine and great no problems. Better than any hotmail !
Regards
M B
Also, Gmail uses differen PORT for POP3 and SMTP !!!

I am using POP3, but still you need to activate SSL, which causes the use of different ports.
