Would it be possible - G1 Apps and Games

To use the G1 through a bluetooth connection as a touch pad mouse control for, say, a laptop or computer? I'd find this particularly useful, but don't know if it's possible.

Would it be possible to post in the correct section?
As far as i know, its not possible. (answer to your question)

Comm Mgr Customizing

Is there a way to customize comm manager (change from 6 button to 10 or change the buttons--replace data connection with 3G) other than using Advanced Config. I can do it through Advanced Config but wondered whether there was another way to do it on the fly that I am missing. Thx.
Did you try looking into the stickied thread at the top of the forum that has all the cab files??
There's a 10 buttom comm manager right there.
I know. I am looking for a utility that switches from the 10 to the 6 or changes the order of the buttons on the 10 or 6. Maybe I am not explaining it well enough ....
Why would you want to change between the two? The 10 button has it all, including disabling data connection and 3G?
Aesthetics. The 6 button on/off looks good with certain themes/roms. Not a huge issue. I guess not a big demand for it.
If you use Kaiser Tweak you can customize the Comm Manager (doesn't change from 6 to 10 buttons or vice versa) but you can re-order the buttons. Give it a shot.
Got it. Thanks.
... Is there anyone that found a way to make the 10-buttons CommManager "dpad-friendly" ?
It's so annoying : you can navigate the homepage of your PDA with the dpad, and then start the commmanager... and there : you're stuck !
Have to touch the screen to choose any of the items (wireless, data, bluetooth...)

Yeah, because it's SUCH a pain to point your finger at the screen and push.
Wow, it's amazing the things people complain about.
If I took your logic, I would ask why Kaiser has a hard-keyboard ? It's so easy for ppl to press the screen
...
I have the aluminum case, and the screen is behind a hardglass !
So you can give a try if you want... but I'd bet your won't even bend the glass.
You didn't say you had a hard case, did ya? I don't have one and I don't know anyone that does. Everyone I know uses the stylus on the screen, just like it's supposed to be used.
Just use AEB to assign a hardkey, I use the windoz logo key, double press toggles BT power, tripple toggles WiFi. You get the picture.
I'll give a try to AEB (my Win button is already reassigned, same for the camera button which triggers the CommMgr...)

Like I said, why would people buy a phone with real keyboard, as there's already onscreen keyboard... That's exactly same scenario.
My question was not about "how could I reeducate myself", but how to turn this smartphone into something even smarter...
Even the ComMgr on the HTC Tornado can be manager from the joystick... (running WM5)
So it's a shame if HTC did remove this so simple thing as focus-ordered buttons...

You bought it, didn't you? Why did you buy it? I'll tell you why - it's one thing to have an on screen keyboard, it's a totally different thing to have a real, tactile keyboard with real keys to give your fingers feedback. You're comparing apples and oranges. Your logic doesn't fly with me, sorry. You can't touch-type with an on screen keyboard (i.e. type by feel).

WOW. You have been nothing but a condescending prick in every one of you posts on this thread. Sorry you don't like the new kids on your block asking questions. If you don't want to contribute anything in an amicable manner, please, leave us to cry in the corner.

LOL. Thanks for the laugh. You made my night.
The OP had a question, and I answered it. If it's not what he was looking for, then he should learn how to phrase his questions in a better way.
I don't apologize for my wording. I am short and to the point.
Lastly, some people will complain about anything and everything. You can't help that or change that.
Ok fine, so you're apparently upset about people asking for tips & tricks... Then I assume your Kaiser was just perfect as-is right ?
(...so I guess you kept the stock ROM untouched, and didnt apply any of the great XDA-dev patches/fixes then)
Anyone with a more constructive feedback, like maybe importing the CommMgr of a different HTC pdaphone ?
I have the Tilt with the stock AT&T ROM. It does everything I need it to. I have, however, applied many of the tweaks and fixes available here. I ask very few questions and do LOTS of reading. I read almost every thread in this forum looking for little tweaks to make my phone even better than it already is.
I have no problems with people asking questions. That is what this forum is for. What bugs me is people who post the same question over and over without reading ANYTHING. (not that I was referring to you)
I was trying to be a little sarcastic with my first reply, but I guess you took it the wrong way.
So then, if you said I was posting without reading anything ...
Do you mean you were able to find a way ? (finaly we'll get something constructive)
I am not really new to XDA-dev, so I know how searching the place works...
Unfortunately, neither the 6buttons nor the 10buttons CommMgr is able to do (apparently) what I'm trying to get.
Hence the post...
Well I highly doubt that you will be able to switch between the 6 and 10 buttom comm mgr. They are both cab installs and require a SR after install.
What about RemE's suggestion? Did you try that? You could also remap the PTT button.
P.S. I wasn't referring to you when I said people don't read before posting.

Touch Screen as Mouse Pad

Hi Everybody
I was wondering, does any one know about an application that allows u to use the Kaiser's touch screen as a mouse pad for the PC?
I guess it should be using BT as the comm method....

C'mon! Use some google, check out the wiki.... this has been discussed over and over and over.
Salling Clicker does a good job, but isn't free. Also works with wifi.
BT remote does a bit of a lesser job, but is free
And there's a lot more of 'em. You could also consider VNC-like solutions.
But as said, there's a LOT of info available on this topic, if you take 2 minutes to search for it.
Last time I've used Salling clicker it did not support touch screen, I'll check BT remote though.
Thanks, and I promise to search better next time.
Cheers

I'm using salling clicker on a daily basis to operate my mediacenter. Touch screen acts as mouse, keyboard is usable.
Desired software discussed between the two of you and chapter closed. Thank you
Advice for soundfx3d: Next time try and put in a question mark to your question (subject) so everyone doesnt view thinking you are offering something. Only who knows the answer will check it out
Better yet, before opening a new thread do check this out. This may answer 95% of your questions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398571

USB Host

Hi everyone.
I read some of 100 pages in this section, but I only find one thread with one message about the possibility of using a USB keyboard (the thread is closed!). Why the thread is closed? I don't understand what means "Documentation from Qualcomm will likely be required in order to make use of the feature".
I think the idea of using an USB Keyboard on G1 isn't so useful, but connect a digital camera such as mass storage is a great idea (or an external HD for whatching films or play songs).
What do you think about this?
Probably wrong forum, should've went under just Dream
This is the right forum because it would require serious development. I'm also interested in getting some USB host action in Android builds. This was a great feature on my old Nokia N800.
I would love to see the ability to use any form of keyboard with the G1 wired or not.
I think it require development and a development based on the specific hardware of Dream... Someone know how Qualcomm enter in this thread?
The previous post I read is here
Well, lets not just focus on keyboard usage. USB host will also let you connect things like external hard drives, usb hubs (usually powered) to your device. I think this should be looked into and not just ignored because there's a KB workaround.

Android Screencast lets you use your computer's keyboard on your device. It's still being worked on but it's a pretty awesome program that can be used on multiple OS's

Please forget the Keyboard... the focus is the possibility of connect every kind of hardware through USB port! We'll only need the right driver!
i think it has the capability but it is not wired correctly or something like that
Someone know where I can read about usb host on dream?
Well!
The thread was moved to "Dream Q&A" section...
In effect mine is a question and I'm searching an answer, but I'm searching a developer too! I posted it in these section because there someone should keep my idea and produce an application!
May be in the FAQ section is more appropriate, but i don't agree...
Hello,
any progress about it?

[Q] TV Remote IR codes

Hi ppl,
I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I've already googled a lot and found nothing about. I've a Slingbox Solo, and I need to program it to recognize a remote from my new Internet+TV+VOIP provider, Vodafone Portugal. I wasn't able to find nothing on the web until now.
But, I was able to program the HTC One TV app to read the remotes and control the set op boxes
Now I have to find a way to convert the ir_data that I've found on a SQLite file on the phone to a JP1 format that Slingbox recognizes.
Does anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help me with this? I will be very, very happy
Regards,
Zé

you can able to control the router which means decrease the speed of signal to the other user by using netcut app(Root access required)
If you are asking if there is a way to break into a router that you don't have the password for... Read forum rules. You cannot discuss that here because it is illegal.
If you are asking something else, please rephrase your question. And what does this have to do with Tasker?

I assume he wants to run an task x times which tries to hack his own network to check if his password is strong

I suppose that is possible. But I don't get that impression, seeing as this is his very first post on xda. And he is not asking for help with a task, but to hack a router. I try not to assume, but his question seems very specific.
I know what you mean.
I say the same as "LeftyGR": what you have wrote measn HACKING, and this is not permitted on XDA Forum (as I understand on XDA's rules page).
But by the other hand, if you want to "test" your personal network (only for testing/personal porpuses), I recommend you to do it on linux (PC), not android phone. Newer routers have WPS pin, some are fixed and other automatically changes every x time (or by user request). So you have to take a look at the WPS generation logarithm to calculate it hash, then the password based on BSSID and ESSID (and MAC).
Can't tell you more about it. . .
dont worry about that if somebody knows what/how to do, you cant do anything against. than its just the question of time
