Dear XDA-members,
I own a Hero for some months now, and I am very pleased with it as an old Touch Diamond user.
However, there is one thing that I really miss and can't find anywhere. Not on this great forum, not on Google and not in the Market. What I really miss is a widget to show the upcoming birthdays. I know there are some widgets for that. But they all want Google Contacts. I want a widget that gets the information from my Outlook Contacts.
Hopefully someone here can help me out with pointing on a widget that can do this.
Thanks in advance
I think you are looking for Ebobirthday.

Is this possible? Like I want the Birthday to be sync with the rest of the info. Doesn't seem to have a slot in the default contacts app. On Cyanogenmod 4.2.3.1.
In my experience with the G1 (have had it since initial release) there has never been an option to add the birth date.
I've only seen that in the Hero contact app. you can always use a Hero rom for the G1, but even still, that doesn't seem to sync the Birthdates with google. I
've installed plenty of Hero roms over and over trying to look for a halfway decent one, and I've always had to manually enter the birthdates.
Until I get a mass confirmation of a Hero rom working great, I'm going to stick with CM.

A way round it is to add birthdays to your gmail contacts then add 'contacts birthdays and events calendar' to your google calendar, then they will all appear in your calendar on your G1.
I hope they fix this.
I can't accept that Google can't..
It is essential info.

When my HTC Hero(GSM) was ky primary phone, I remember that I could have birthdays show up in the calendar, so I do not have to go to the Facebook application to see them. It was default on the hero but I can't figure out how to get it to work.
Also, I found myself envious of the new Blackberry Torch because through blackberry messenger, it adds your Facebook events to your calendar automatically. Does anyone know of a way to add this as well?

Two ways to do this that i have found.
One is to go to facebook on a the computer. Export the calendar, and then Import it into your google account. bleh
What i found today i think will do what you need.
Ebobirthday
can be found in the market. This will log into your face book account to sync with Birthdays. Then you can have it sync with the calendar inside the phone.
Hope that helps you somewhat.
This is sort of what I'm looking for, I still feel like there is a way to do this without having to resync that calendar information. Already in the phone if you pull up a contact, it does give the contact's birthday information, but for some reason it does not include that information in the calendar like it did on the Hero.
That app is a good temporary solution until I figure out how to get it to work just the way I want it. Thank you!
Edit: Playing around with it, I found a section in the menu that lets you add Calendars. In order for my Hero to have been able to sync birthdays to the calendar, there had to have been a Facebook calendar in that list, and there isn't one now. So I think to solve my problem it is just a matter of figuring out how to add Facebook to the HTC Calendar.
I have struggled to find a stand alone calendar for android. Jorte would be perfect except for one thing: I need repeat appointments (ex. every second Tuesday) which Jorte does not do. I've tried most others including Smooth Calendar, Ancal, Agenda Widget etc., and none of them seem to have this functionality without syncing with Google calendar or some other online calendar.
Anybody have any recommendations? Am I overlooking some alternative way of keeping a calendar without syncing? This is the one thing that is preventing me from totally going to android and ditching my WM OS.
I'm running Sagarom's super froyo ultralite.
Try emailing the jorte dev to ask for the functionality

I did that about 2 weeks ago and didn't receive a reply, but hopefully they got it and will implement it soon.
I'm not satisfied with the calendar in Galaxy S (is it Samsung's own or Android stock?). Often I need to login into Google Calendar on the web to be able to customize my appointments as I want.
This I miss:
1. Be able to choose what calendar which is the default one. Now "My calendar" is the default, I want one of my two Google calendars to be default.
2. I want to be able to specify "repeat rules" (not sure what the english term is) better. It's not possible to make an appointment appear every second monday for instance. But it's possible to do through Google calendar on the web.
3. Specify notification tone.
And I want to keep everything that does work, like multiple calendars and syncing to my Google account etc.
Hi. I use jorte, free in the market.
Give it a try

Jorte is the best, which is not to say it's great.
It also has the best widgets.
Others don't come anywhere close as calendars, although they might have nicer looking skins.
Jorte is very good. But for the widgets i like more agenda widgets. Looks much nicer and has better options.
Gemini Calendar is a nice and free (available in the market) app and has useful widgets, although I've not tried any others bar the original SGS app
Non of them are really good. They do have the functions I'm missing in the original calendar app, but the GUIs are just horrible.
Is it possible to switch the Samsung Calendar to original Android calendar? Or maybe HTC Calendar?

you can switch to stock calendar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735035
note: you will have a big "plus" sign on the top of your screen which i find pretty annoying. i just switched to jorte based on opinions here but honestly i use agenda widget most of the time. it's great and scrollable with launcherpro and syncs to RTM tasks as well. love it.

Hello all,
I have been trying to find a good app/webapp to remind me about upcoming TV shows, and so far, the HTC/Sense TV app has fit the bill quite nicely. I just need to figure out one more thing .
I noticed that the reminders are added to an "HTC TV" calendar, however this calendar lives only on the device; it is not synced up to Google. My question is, is there any way to make it sync up to my Google account?
I can't help but think I'm missing some obvious button/checkmark. If there isn't such a way, has anyone figured anything like this out with Tasker?
Thanks and sorry if this is a noob-ish question!
Bump...
