Ok so I keep feeling that this question is being ignored but I think we might be able to fix this annoying low FPS problem on the Kaiser. Many are convinced that the actual camera hardware is causing this low FPS problem or that the lack of 3d drivers is the culprit.
If this is the common consensus then tell me, why when i Boot into Android the Camera FPS is 1000 times better. (of course using the camera is still buggy) If Android's protocol or what ever you call it to access the camera can increase the performance tri-fold, why can't we achieve this same effect on Windows Mobile?
You can make the windows mobile camera as fast as android... here's the trick:
- Start your camera.
- When you get image, lay you cellphone on your hand, covering the lens completly.
-switch off the cellphone (press 1 time the power button, not hold it)
- wait 3 seconds.
- press power buttin again (wake up)
you'll get a camera as fast as in android, with extremely fast auto-focus, but very dark.
Plus agains android:
-Auto focus
-correct color hue
-full focus length (i think android is limited)
Plus agains WM:
-No mambo jambo to get this (start camera app and you're set.)
-Manual Focus (comes handy some times)
You choose....
I am more then aware of this "fix" of covering the lens, however I dont consider that a fix more than a work around.
Also, does not work while Slide to unlock is enabled.
What I'm asking is why can this work without covering the lens in Android but not in WM?
What resolution is the Android camera app set for?
I've noticed that turning down the resolution on the WM camera gives me better FPS.
(or is that just my imagination?)
placebo... at least on my side
bilago, my thoughts exacltly! Is it possible to program a new camera app for kaiser which increase the FPS? or maybe some plugin or fix! or Maybe its ignoreable for developers coz they are concentrating on more important stuff?
But when your not a programmer yourself, its not fair to just ask for something, not thinking of all the hard work involved! So lets just keep hoping!

I have to say my Diamond camera pictures are superb. I really do like the quality of pictures it takes and I use it a lot. Low light, macro, daylight, it's all good. However, controlling it can be very frustrating at times.
Sometimes I can't get it to respond or take a picture at all. I've used many ROMs and have had the same experience across the board. I'm sure many other Diamond or Touch Pro users have as well. I've found the problem to be that dang circle smart touch ring. It sounds useful to use with the camera but IMHO it only causes more problems than good. Initially I had my camera shoot option set to "Touch and press". I thought I would like to be able to focus first then click the action button after. Like my regular point and shoot. Well, it works some of the time. A lot of times it hangs up or freezes OR... It starts zooming in or out because I accidentally touch the ring.
So with that said, I have since forced my camera to work like the old days. Click of the action button only. I set my shooting option to "Full Press". It still will auto focus on it's own before the shot and then take the picture automatically. I've had no problems with this. It works great even with macro shots. But there is a second step I had to do which is actually more important I think. That is disabling the ring within the camera. To do that go into the the Registry Key: HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Camera
Back this key up then proceed to delete everything in it. That will disable the smart touch ring from working within the camera. It still works everywhere else though. I don't see the need to zoom when taking the pic since it's digital zoom anyway. I can zoom on it in the Album afterward. You can still zoom if you want just by pressing the screen and touching it though.
Now my camera has been working like a charm without any hang ups, freezes or accidental zooming. Also when I press the screen to bring up the menu or hit the X it opens up every time too. Now when I reach for my Diamond camera to take a picture I'm much more confident that it will work on demand every time.
Much better for me and maybe you.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't taken the plunge on registry editing yet, but I'll definitely keep this in mind if I decide to. Any chance of releasing the edits as a CAB?
Really shame on HTC for not including this as an option. The combo zoom and shoot button is ridiculous.
I removed the entries from HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Camera as you recommended also set the shoot option to Full Press and now i'm pretty pleased with my HTC Touch Diamond's camera. Thanks for sharing this info with us!
What would you ask for ???
Obviously Froyo is on its way.
But any other ideas for hardware or software ?
eg.
Dedicated camera button for front facing camera
etc etc
or a solution for
better copy / paste selection
option for numerical pin as opposed to patern unlock
etc etc
Just read other posts asking simlar questions eg Facebook thread.
But this could be a reasonable chance to get our view across, The Mrs has just been approached to review their products

but it's not there?
BTW, what I really need (in addition to froyo, an improved GPS and less lag.... ok, I'm on stock fw...) is not from Samsung directly but simply an app: Skype!!!
LED Flash
and SenseUI!
(I cheated)
1. some kinda mic settings so i could record concerts and have the footage useable.
2. stereo speakers..
3. usb connection on bottom..
4. led or xenon or both flash
5. camera dedicated button right side bottom.

This pretty much sums it up.
More RAM
like 4 GB RAM, and Dual Core CPU
and a flat 3000 mAh battery
flash for sure
- camera flash
- hdmi output (rumored via usb in the future)
I want an optical joystick. And a brushed Al backplate. And I dun need a clickable center button if a touch sensitive one will be more durable. And undo/redo in all text editors. And the icon size should be adjustable. Err, that's 5 more things, my bad....

Why just a LED flash? they are pretty lame.
If you are going to have a flash at least have a proper one (xenon).
That would be my wish
1) xenon flash
2) coloured trackball for notifications
a working rocket launcher.
Stability.
(It looks like most, or all, the Bell i9000M phones have a problem with the internal SD chips, killing themselves. Mine died, and all I did was launch the audio player!)
Xenon flash or a LED for notifications
I'd say something android lacks overall: easy caret placement. On the phone produced by a fruity manufacturer you have somewhat of a magnifying circle when positioning the caret. I would REALLY like that (or equivalent) to be available on Android
...unless it already supports it and I have overlooked it for months, lol
notification led
couldn't care less about flash, the phone makes extremely good night pics anyhow and i'm not into making horrible night pics with a flash 30cm from ppl's face
the rest is software and can/will/is already added by community/samsung
eventually a joystick or something similar for games hehe.

Both the samsung keyboard and swype keyboard have cursor arrow keys for fine caret adjustment.
For the samsung keyboard, long-press/hold down the '?123' button in the left bottom corner. In the Swype keyboard, swype from 'i' (information) key in bottom corner to 'SYM' key next to it and a new board opens with arrows and additional 'cut/copy/paste' commands. Very handy although not as elegant as the fruity phone's implementation or easy to use as a Nexus trackball.

Let us start a summary of features we want from Samsung.
- Remote-Viewfinder with all functions like the camera app itself
- manual whitebalance (within Auto-Mode and easier accessing)
- manual focus
- face recognition in auto-mode
Sent from my GT-P5110 using xda premium
-forced flash light in automatic mode
There is manual white balance feature, but not in automatic mode.

Oh hell, yes i found it. Not really easy accessible and usable. I changed my feature-request ^^
Sent from my GT-P5110 using xda premium
-an API for manual control of the camera in our own apps, ex: shutter speed, Aperture, everything in "expert" mode, etc.
-time lapse option that bypasses the preview requirements. ex: time lapse with screen off to save battery
-unlimited continuous mode. ex: take pictures as fast as hardware allows and save them until the SD card is full
checking for protrusions in front of the lens when camera is activated on start up or activated by apps
else this happenshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38367332#post38367332
Speaking of remote, how about publishing the remote protocol so we could write special purpose apps with vastly greater control than just launching a "take picture" intent.
And two new options in settings:
1) Don't start camera on power up.
2) Remember my default preference for using the sdcard, don't keep asking on every power up.

+1 for these 2
evSril afflicted
Only owned mines for a few hours now
but
+ 1 : Don't start camera on power up., straight to dashboard would be better
+1 for some type of Focus Control
:- 30 Second Shutter Window instead of 16 seconds
:- Different Flash Modes, maybe its me but I can only see auto, Rear ,Slow Fill etc.
hello
it was helpful thanks
- advanced panorama features like in LG's new phone (LG G Pro) and Samsung WB850F compact camera
- 3D panorama
- action panorama
-3D photo with one lens (as in WB850F)
Normal voice phone calling!
+1 To remember SD card setting on start up
+1 To not start Camera App on start up
+1 Flash auto fill mode
+1 Higher resolution Panorama modes
+1 3D Photo Options
What about untimed video recording option? Currently limited to 25 minutes.
And of course the most important:
PLEASE ALLOW NORMAL VOICE PHONE CALLING!
Sv: What features do you want updated/integrated from Samsung?
+100000000 for most of those named earlier.
Personally, I am really disappointed with the lack of fine-grained manual controls (even in manual mode). What I would really appreciate is
manual focus control
manual flash control (mostly intensity)
smarter handling of flash in all modes: when popping up the flash in auto-mode, chances are, I did it on purpose. If the light conditions don't seem to make use of flash necessary, use it for fill-in, already.
better use of screen estate / refined controls in manual mode. Of course, the huge dials for manual settings do work, but at least for me, they simply steal focus from taking the image. Give me onscreen buttons to modify the function of the zoom-rocker in real time instead, as is done with the dialer on SLRs: hold button for AE and the rocker changes exposure compensation instead of zooming etc...
Sent from a compact camera (Samsung Galaxy Camera, EK-GC100)
Manual focus control
Manual flash control
Faster and better autofocus
Manual White Balance, Can make phone calls maybe because for now i fell interrupted with no native app phone call... when i want check balance of my sim card i should swap to another phone and new features on camera like sgs 4 :fingers-crossed:
i need Manual focus control, Manual flash control
Manual focus slider
+1 for all above,
personally I've mostly missed manual focus, as I like to take shots of moving objects, or objects that are not yet in view.
is there any workaround app for the manual focus ?
also full remote controls for the remote viewfinder would be nice.
+1 dont start camera on power up !
like every digicam has a switch for viewing pictures without turning on lens motor ..
It would be great if someone could mod the camera app to use power button as shutter button similar to how right shoulder button was used in the xperia play mod app allowing you to hold it to focus and release it to take a picture.

Already been talked about here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141755&highlight=dedicated you will need root access but it can be done
Thanks - the other posts were slightly broader discussing lack of dedicated camera button, etc - I can live without a hardware button to launch camera up and very happy how zooming works with the volume rocker and would not want to lose that.
Also old camera mod app for xperia Play did not require root but xperia play mod used R trigger not power button so maybe you are right about root access.
I know power button can be used for ending calls in other xperia phones if enabled in accessibility menu - I wonder if the camera shutter option can be added in the similar fashion as an alternative to modding the stock camera app.

I hope so, I was a bit miffed when I found out their wasn't a camera button but it was the speaker....as this will be my first Sony device and most of their devices have had dedicated buttons....but I'm sure someone in XDA will bring out a mod
It should be a camera setting. Yes you'd lose digital zoom but that's fine for me as I'd never use digital zoom anyway.
The positioning of the volume keys would make it ideal and vastly improve the camera thanks to the shortsighted decision not to add a camera button (and thus lose the quick launch feature, which isn't possible to replicate just by having a camera icon on the lock screen).
When I went to take a picture yesterday I assumed that the button was to take a picture, was very disappointed when the screen just went black lol
Looks like this is going to be yet another phone that I am never going to take pictures with, I hate having to find the correct place on the screen to take a picture, once it has finally auto focused properly.

Just got my mi A2 - love it. but noticing big issues with regular video recording - I am seeing this pulse or pop often once per second - a pulsing on all my videos - not sure if it is the auto focus or what. It is a regular endless pulsing on all videos where slow closeups show it the best. Looks like a defect and I would return. Or suggestions of how to fix?
See videos of what it looks like:

Looks like a problem with either the cameras or the software. I'd probably RMA it.
I have the same Problem.
I have the same problem. It's an issue with the autofocus. It's searching for something to focus on and it does that. It can probably be fixed with a software update.
Does everyone have this problem - or just a bunch of us? Is there a way to force the autofocus to turn off for certain shots? This is a deal breaker for me as I do allot of closeup work with nature.

I'm hoping the October update fixes it.
Can anyone using a camera mod - like gcam, let us know if there same autofocus pulsing happens on those apps?

In bright daylight i dont have this pulsing Problem.
But in Darkness with synthetic Lights on it happens.
gcam, same Problem. You need an Videoapp with "Autofocus Lock"
Same issue here with low light indoor shoots.
did the new update fix this issue ( raining here - hard to test) - or does anyone know of a autofocus lock app or technique to get around it.

I use the "open camera" app, which is free and lets you block the focus.
I have the latest October patch (2nd) and encountering the pulse problem using the native cam app. Using the Open Camera app I am not seeing the pulse issue.

how do you block focus on open camera - do not see option. am i missing it.
yes - open camera app - does work. in that it has a focus lock. How do we let Xiaomi know about this problem it it can be fixed (is there a offical way)?
open camera app
I did find how to do it: (https://opencamera.sourceforge.io/help.html)
Focus - Controls the focusing method used. Available options depend on your device. These may include:
Continuous focus iconContinuous (default) - The camera focuses continuously. This is generally the best mode - the preview will usually always be in focus, and taking photos is quick when the preview is already in focus. Note that you can still manually focus by touching the screen.
Auto focus iconAuto - The camera focuses when you take a photo, or when you touch to focus.
Infinity focus iconInfinity - The camera focus will be fixed for objects far away.
Macro focus iconMacro - This behaves similarly to auto focus, but is optimised for close-up objects.
Locked focus iconLocked - The camera does not focus, unless you manually touch to focus.
Manual focus iconManual - A slider appears allowing you to manually control the focus distance (only available if Camera2 API is used).
Fixed focus iconFixed - The focus remains fixed.
Fixed focus iconEDOF - Extended depth of field (EDOF). Focusing is done digitally and continuously.
Is there anyone who can confirm that issue has solved with android pie, or not.
Isue with video pulsing isn't solved with pie update. I have also made wipe data/factory reset after pie update but problem stil exist.
You can lock focus on stock camera app by holding on any spot of the screen
