I've had this issue for quite a while now, I am only receiving around 1/10 of my MMS messages. I've had this problem using CM 4.04, CM 4.1999 all the way up to now. Does anyone else have this problem? I know for a fact my APN settings are correct, but im just not receiving them. I've also tried pretty much every spoof agent from Default to iPhone 3.0 on the modified Mms.apk

So I've been lurking and learning a lot on these forums. I have tried 3 different ROMS (wiping everything in-between) and none of them seem to be able to send text messages that need to be automatically broken up into more than one message. Instead it just fails. Shorter messages send just fine.
I am currently running the newest Zen Aria release I downloaded from here on 9/2/10.
I Had the same problem with CM 6 and another ROM I can't remember. I was hoping Zen would fix the problem since it is a 2.1 release with Sense.
Any ideas as to what I need to do to fix the problem?
Thanks from noob.
Are you using the stock messenger? If so, try Handcent. I know that it will send 160+ character messages on CM6, as I just sent a grocery list to the wife.

Thanks for the quick reply! I just tried Handcent, nice program. Unfortunately, I still would get a failure notice whenever I tried to send a message with more than 160 characters. Any more ideas out there?
In Handcent, do you have the option turned on to split 160+ character messages?
Menu -> Settings -> Send message settings -> Split 160
By default I believe this is turned off, so you have to turn it on.
This is a known issue that occurs on any rom except for cdma based sense roms. The Aria port is from a gsm phone, the frameworks are different. The cdma hero roms have something in the background that auto splits messages, AOSP and GSM ports lack this built in functionality so you must use handcent or chomp and turn on splitting in the options.
So I wanted to see if it was a problem with the ROMS, so I installed the
[ROM] Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK and it worked fine.
Then I came back here and read your messages.
I didn't check for an option in handcent DOH!
And I figured it must of been a ROM problem and you confirmed it for me.
Thanks for all your help!!
My brother just installed the ICS leak for the Droid 4. One of the things he noticed was he could not send MMS messages through the stock app. However, GoSMS does work. Has anyone else had this issue? It sounds like its just the apk to me? Also, are there any other issues we should be aware of? Over all it seems to be pretty stable.
Hi,
I'm running the stock ICS on a Droid 4 in the UK (on the T-Mobile/EE network).
Everything is working fine apart from the MMS facility within the stock "Messages" application which doesn't seem to be able to send or receive MMS messages. However, the odd thing (well, I think it's odd) is that Handcent can send and receive MMS messages just fine, which shows the capability is there (and presumably the APN stuff is ok?), and it could just be settings somewhere?
Does anybody have the same problem, or a suggestion for a solution?
Cheers,
Steve.
Bump - nobody any ideas?
I did some tricks about mms, but it's still not so stable. I recommend to install one more sms/mms app for sending mms.
So I came across Hangouts, the messaging program created by Google. I really like the layout and decided to set it as my default SMS program. I got very used to it until I came across a time to send an MMS photo. It kept failing even with the highest bars in service. I Don't think it is the ROM I am running because I tried it on this and on the stock version of the HTC One. Has anyone else had this issue and know if it is an app issue or a device issue? There have been a few updates by Hangouts and none of them have seemed to do any justice.
Ive used hangouts sms since the day it launched. Pictures texts everything work. On data network and wifi. What rom are you running, tell some more about your setup if you require help.

Actually shortly after posting this I noticed there was an update for my Rom. After flashing it and attempting Hangouts MMS it is working now. Doesn't really explain why it didn't work on stock HTC One, but nonetheless it is running now.

Ok excellent. Well doont question it, just roll with it haha. Glad it works though.
Since updating to Lollipop earlier this week Google Messenger has lost the ability to receive MMS messages. On Jelly Bean I was able to change the APN and receive them sporadically, but now they don't come in at all, they just say "downloading" and stay that way. The APN setting is no longer in the Messenger menu. I can find it in the mobile data settings menu, but it is greyed out. Has anyone experienced this? I Googled for a solution, but found nothing helpful yet.
Thanks in advance.
Well... If it makes you feel any better, I had similar issues. After switching to a lollipop ROM. I couldn't send or receive texts (SMS) but group and pics would go through (MMS). I searched and asked for days, tried to learn about APN's, made changes, gave up. Borrowed my daughter's old iPhone (hate it) until my contract is up in April. Then it'll be Verizon for me with either the M9 or N6. Wish you luck. If you come up with a solution, please post it. I would really like to have my M8 available for resale.
I've switched to Textra, which is similar to Messenger in enough ways that I'm good for now. If/when Messenger is updated next, I hope it'll work well enough to switch back to.
Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I had the issue with a replacement M7. MMS wouldn't send or download. The APN MMSC setting in the stock Messages app was "(not set)" and there is no way to set it.
I ended up using 8sms for texts and mms. I just flashed Lollipop from Kitkat and it's still the same.
