So far I only have one but it only displays my gmail :S and I dont know how I can get to the paid apps being that Im in mexico.
So what are mail widgets that u guyz use? =)
I think market enables allows you to use paid apps.
And I use pure messenger widget to show sms / gmail on my homescreen.
if you can get paid apps, Koxx's pure message works wonders.
He has been beta testing .apks on the dream forum, and is a really super dev

I'm too cheap to buy a data plan, and I know I'm a minority here, but I was wondering if anybody else in my boat has found a way to use the calendar?
It won't let me into the program without a google account and I can't find an alternative calendar anywhere. The closest I found was AnCal and it gives me an unexpectedly quit error or whatever.
Bumping this thread. I'd like to know also.
Are you after a calendar widget, or a fully functional one that you can add events, etc to?
A fully functional one that doesn't make you login to your gmail account would be awesome. Trying to persuade my wife that android is the better mobile OS (over WinMo), but having a hard time since she has to give up her camera and calendar (without a data plan).
I hear multiful calendar can do that, but like you I don't have a data plan, maybe someone can download (its free) it from the market and post the apk here.
And why give up the camera, elcair?
I found that one too, but I have not been able to find an APK for it.
If somebody could do that, that would be amazing.
I don't think a separate calendar is what we want.
what we need is an "import/export to sdcard" feature added to the main calendar. (similar to what we got with the eclair contacts)
preferably with csv.
Could anybody grab the APK for multiful calendar?
EDIT:
found it, its attached.
I'd still like to be able to use the android one, but this will do.
Vilord's Tattoo has a calender that doesn't require data so if you could find someone to pull the apk and get it to work you wouldn't need an extra calender app after you pull out to original one.
I can go into androidinstall.tar/data/app_s and I see calendar.apk and calendar.odex.
Would I just install calendar.apk and be done with it?

I would also appreciate it if someone could procure this.
My thanks.
bump.
Can anybody rip out the calendar from Vilord's tattoo?
I might even go as far as to pay anyone to get this apk too.
the calendar apk from tattoo is for rosie. So its for sense only. You need to google "pure grid calendar widget.apk"
yep, that seems to do it.
I still can't launch the actual app, but I can see the calendar, add items etc.
Thanks incubus
scottter so you can add new items from the pure grid calendar widget?
dangit.
I thought I could, I get the dialog box, but when I actually try to hit OK, I get a force close message...
So in actuality, no.
I found another calendar, Jorte, that doesn't need data.
I'm not satisfied with the calendar in Galaxy S (is it Samsung's own or Android stock?). Often I need to login into Google Calendar on the web to be able to customize my appointments as I want.
This I miss:
1. Be able to choose what calendar which is the default one. Now "My calendar" is the default, I want one of my two Google calendars to be default.
2. I want to be able to specify "repeat rules" (not sure what the english term is) better. It's not possible to make an appointment appear every second monday for instance. But it's possible to do through Google calendar on the web.
3. Specify notification tone.
And I want to keep everything that does work, like multiple calendars and syncing to my Google account etc.
Hi. I use jorte, free in the market.
Give it a try

Jorte is the best, which is not to say it's great.
It also has the best widgets.
Others don't come anywhere close as calendars, although they might have nicer looking skins.
Jorte is very good. But for the widgets i like more agenda widgets. Looks much nicer and has better options.
Gemini Calendar is a nice and free (available in the market) app and has useful widgets, although I've not tried any others bar the original SGS app
Non of them are really good. They do have the functions I'm missing in the original calendar app, but the GUIs are just horrible.
Is it possible to switch the Samsung Calendar to original Android calendar? Or maybe HTC Calendar?

you can switch to stock calendar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735035
note: you will have a big "plus" sign on the top of your screen which i find pretty annoying. i just switched to jorte based on opinions here but honestly i use agenda widget most of the time. it's great and scrollable with launcherpro and syncs to RTM tasks as well. love it.

Hi,
I recently found that there is an option for adding IM accounts for each contact. While in Edit Contact mode you have the choice to add an IM account (most common ones) for each contact. If you add an IM account you will then have a choice within a contact to start IM chat with that specific person.
My problem is that if I add an Microsoft Live account for one of my friends nothing happens when I try to send a message. E.g There is no application linked to this action.
It works well if I instead use Google Talk, but then that application is installed on the phone.
Since there is no official MSN application available I wonder if there is a way to get this working ? Is there an Motorola app which is not present on my phone? (running custom firmware) or is there a way to link a specific app to that action ? (Ebuddy for example) or how is this intended to be used ?
Been searching the net for an answer without any luck.

nope, instant messaging from contacts is only avail. for Gtalk.
some extra functionallity comes with the official skype app, (like in facebook or twitter)
but you can mess aound with jabber transports if ur rly interessted, that works quite well for me, but can get complicated too.
there are guides for that out there - if u google "jabber transport gtalk"

Thanks for the reply. I also found out that this has nothing to do with Motorola, since it looks and behaves the same on my Samsung Galaxy. Looks like Google prepared for IM via Contacts but since there are no offical clients (or non official) that integrates with the contacts it doesn't work. Would be good to be able to configure this yourself. Anyway I will stick with Ebuddy which lets me connect to different networks within the same applikation.

Today i tried doing chat on Gtalk by logging into gmail as desktop version and clicking on the contacts in left bottom, sent messages and received them without problem , did any one try it ? it really works and one of the alternatives for Gtalk app. thought call phone feature asks for flash to be installed , Gtalk works fine. Please do tell me if i can find any alternate apps in market place or home brew if you guys know any.

I have HD2 Desire HD Android ROM, it is very good, then I installed Launcher Pro 0.8.3 and it is very nice too and working very will, and when I added Facebook Widget or Friends Widget, I logined my account in Facebook, and I updated The Facebook Widget and Friends Widget many time, but nothing happened, just Blank, so any body help me, while in HTC Sence the Facebook Widget and Friends Widget working very will
did you set up the widget login within LauncherPro?
If you go to launcherPro Plus settings, there is the settings for the widgets. You need to set your login details here.
This is only available in the LauncherPro PLUS (Paid version)
Andy

You either get this version from Market Place or via their website.
When you buy it through the website you get a code. This code can be used as many times as you want along with your PayPal email address .
I'm not sure about the Market version though
and the payment is one time. You get all teh upgrades free after making the payment.
if you lose the code, you can get it back from their website by entering your papal address, it then sends the code to your paypal email address again.
Thanks all, I got new version, but the same problem , no updating
