So, I've had a G1 for a while now, but ever since I updated my CM to 4.2.3.1 (and eventually installed EnochX theme) that my phone has had some problems regarding messages.
Either my friends receive my messages with a half hour delay (give or take) or I don't receive messages from them.
I've tried re-flashing my radio image (btw, could someone tell me if this is the correct procedure? I hope I did this the right way: just went into recovery and chose my radio image update zip), but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Thanks to all.
PS: To answer my first poster, T-Mobile wouldn't be the answer because I bought this from the UK and am now using it on Vodafone Portugal.
Well T-mobiles been out tonight so that could be part of the problem
i had the same problem. i switched over to senseHERO and the problem is gone.

Anybody know why when I receive text/multimedia messages that they would be an hour behind on the time that they came in? They come in as soon as someone sends them, but when I look at the time it is an hour behind what the actual time is. i.e. Someone sends a text at 12:00pm and I receive it at 12:01pm but the logged time on the text message is 11:01pm
What time zone, city, and provider do you use?
There is a known issue with AT&T (specifically 3G) with text messaged being time stamped incorrectly in some AT&T markets. In GSM/EDGE mode, the text messaged get the correct time.
Any of the 6.1 based roms on here do fix this, but I've tried 5 different custom 6.0 roms to no avail.
I have no however tried the latest AT&T rom to see if this fixes it.
Please tryt he latest official AT&T rom and report back if it fixes this issue.

K, I'll try the new ATT Tilt ROM and report back once I get some text messages.
I just sent myself a text from my work phone (Sprint) to the Tilt, and it showed the correct time - 2:55pm.
I am running Alex's V5 Home rom based off of the latest AT&T WM6 build, 1.62.
Update:
The official ROM still does not fix this issue.
Hi Guys,
Ive spent the last 4 hrs trying to figure this problem out and i still cant fix it. This evening i upgraded my HTC branded TyTn II with the official WM 6.1 rom from the e-club aussie website. All went well and when i started up my device everything seemed fine. i was able to send a mms and make a call and i even received a sms from a mate. The problem started when i tried to reply to the sms. i kept getting an error saying " Your Txt Message Could Not Be Sent " and at the bottom of the screen i get a msg saying "error synchronizing". i have no idea what could be wrong? i tried doing a hard reset and even reverting back to WM 6.0 i still get the same problem. I have had this phone for months and nothing like this has ever happened. I am on the Telstra network.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated i cant have my phone not being able to send sms and not being able to receive mms!! as these are the features i use everyday!!

Just had this today myself. I'm not an expert here, so there will probably be more intelligent replies, but try this.
Be sure that ActiveSync isn't running in the background and that you set your connections to point to your GSM carrier, and Internet, rather than work network. See if that does it.
I had this issue with a ROM a while back.. it usually only happened when in landscape mode.. and also happened when another message or phone call was incoming.
Would be useful to see if this is a ROM related problem or a Radio related problem though.
Have you tried another radio?
Or disable 3G and force a pure GSM band.
I had this issue with several phones...

Also happened to me for the first time at 2:52pm today. I was using my Tilt in landscape mode, and immediately after the error came up, I received a text message. I then tapped to retry the send, and it worked.
Hopefully this is just a hiccup with the network...
I am from the UK and have been having the same problem over the last couple of days, aswell as the data not working either!
Phone my supplier (T-Mobile UK) and they said the data was caused by the 3G network being down but couldnt explain the text problem, they sent me some settings and restarted the phone and it seems to now work!

Yeah it finally started to work today!!! i dont know what was wrong i called up telstra and abused them a bit and then a couple of hours later it started to work haha i think it probably was a network issue.

Allow me to introduce you to my friends the comma (,) and the period (.).
Yikes...
sorry, was in a hurry
sorry was in a hurry when i typed this.
Now,
let me introduce to you the "Shift" key; sandwiched conveniently on both left & right sides of your keyboard!
Back to the issue,
I'd attempt a complete 100% wipe, including going back to past FW that you didn't have issues with and go from there. Alas, I'm not quite knowledgeable in this particular aspect of the G1.
Lets just hope you aren't missing a particularly urgent phone call.
Ok, Other than my grammar.
I got thedude 1.5 cupcake running.
My issue is my sister-inlaw has verizon and is unable to connect to me.
She gets no ring but I do; Then I am able to hear her but not vise-versa!!!
I didn't think my Grammar mattered when i was having an issue and wanted to get my post up ASAP so #@$% you very much for the help!!!
Sounds like a network-network issue rather than your phone being rooted. Were you able to talk to your sister-in-law fine before you rooted your phone (if you even did)?
network to network
Yes up till I flashed the radio I had no problems. After flashing I have many connection issues mostly with incoming calls. I have no problem calling back who ever calls me; Just
With incoming as far as I can tell. I know the network is flawed but i'd like to have the incoming working again. As of this post I'm running the dudes cupcake 1.0 themed with ba class 6 8 gig with 7000 m split ext2 rest apps to sds and 188 apps and latest radio via jf updater. Thx for the help.

Use the NBH file.
NBH
I've used rc29 NBH. The one to root, not sure what other one to get or use.
I've also fladhed the radio back with the jf 33 radio file. Still no luck! No incoming calls, people who call don't hear a ring but I do I try to answer and I can hear them but they can't here me or anything. I love my phone but would like to use it for calls! Thx
unroot your phone and talk to t-mo about it. when i first read the issue it seemed like it was only one person who couldn't hear you so i would have said their phone sucked, but if no one can here you then the odds of everyone else's phone sucking is pretty slim. try unrooting to see if it helps. also did you check the baseband ounder "about phone" after each radio flash? might have a problem there.
p.s. to those worried about capitalization screw off, but for future reference commas and periods are good
Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I've bought an unlocked T-Mobile G1, it seems to be running on the official ROM, version 1.5 (can't check it now because I still don't have it, but my brother tested it before he sent it to me, should be arriving tomorrow). Anyway, my brother told me that the phone reports an error saying that the SMS couldn't be delivered because the number was wrong, or something like that. I've read that it's associated to the myFaves service on T-Mobile, and because it's on another network now an error appears because that number isn't on the network it's on now. I've read that I have to install another RC9 to prevent this, what do I have to do in order to do this? I believe my phone isn't rooted, although I've been thinking of doing it and installing a Cyanogen ROM. I'd like to keep most functions on the phone, so any advice is appreciated.

It's prolly best to troubleshoot the problem when you actually have the phone otherwise we would be speculating what the problem is.
Thanks for answering, I'll have the phone by tomorrow, so I'll be able to take a look at the problem myself. Basically, what my brother said is that the phone would report an error randomly, saying the message couldn't be sent (or something like that, seems the phone language was set in Spanish so the error was reported in Spanish too, I'm from Argentina so that's why).

Sometimes you can get a error message like that when the signal goes bad at the time of sending. Once you get the phone and if you can't figure it out just come back on here and we can solve it for you. Most likely its something real simple.
The thing is that he wasn't trying to send an SMS, last night he sent me a message, I received it fine, then responded and he got the message too. Then he turned it off, used his phone for a while and I asked him to try it again today, without doing anything the phone would report an error while sending a message, even if he wasn't sending one.
Edit: Anyway, I'll post again tomorrow, with complete build info and anything that seems useful.
Edit 2: Got the phone, it seems it won't try to send SMS now, but I can't send any SMS, I think it's my SIM because it works with other SIMs.
Sorry for double posting, but another update: Now I have the phone and could manage to send SMSs, followed some instructions I found on T-Mobile Forums to manually update the SMS Center number and worked perfectly, now I can send and receive SMS normally, but every now and then my carrier sends me a message that says that the message could not be delivered and to check the number. Here is my phone info:
Model number: T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.27.00393-g6607056
[email protected] #1
Build number: CRC1
The messages from the carrier arrive at random intervals, these are the instructions I followed to send SMS:
Actually, you can manually update the SMS center number on the G1 if you use AnyCut to create a shortcut to Phone Info. At the bottom of the display, there is a window marked "SMSC" where you can enter T-Mobile's number +12063130004. Worked for me
Of course I didn't use that SMS Center number, I used one provided by my carrier.
Edit: Flashed the latest Cyanogenmod ROM and now it won't send random SMS, working perfectly now.
The problem started only a few days ago when my phone suddenly stopped receiving text messages. At the time, I was running Cyanogenmod 11 on my Sprint HTC One (M7). There were no errors of any sort; any time I would attempt to send a message, the phone would say that the message sent and that was the end of it. Also, any SMS messages that were sent to me would never reach me. The strange part is that I could send and receive phone calls, had data on the Sprint network, Bluetooth worked, WLAN worked, and GPS was working. Basically, everything but SMS would work.
My first guess was that my messaging program wasn't working. However, no matter what I used (I tried Hangouts, AOSP Messenger, and Textra to equal non-effect).
At that point I figured it was an obscure issue with my ROM of choice. I decided to roll back to a previous random Sense ROM that I knew had SMS working in the past. I used TWRP v2.8.0.2 to restore this old snapshot, and I had the same symptoms.
I tried a few different popular ROMs just to see what would happen. Everything worked great except SMS.
I figured that at this point, I should just roll it back to stock. Carefully following an RUU guide, I downloaded stock firmware and the corresponding RUU. Again, everything was in perfectly working order except for SMS messages.
I confirmed that my phone was not actually registering the sent texts by dialing ##UPDATE#. According to the output of the Self Service screen before and after sending some test texts, that number does not increment.
So I'm stumped. I can't figure out what's wrong with my phone, let alone fix it. I've even taken it to the Sprint store to check if there was some obscure account problem. After a restart, they were stumped, too (I was referred to a different store that I will have to visit over the weekend).
Any ideas what I can try next? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried to update profile (and PRL)? It's a shot in the dark, but worth a shot.

I just updated my phone to 4.06.651.9. On my phone, the ##UPDATE# entry causes it to attempt a "hands-free activation" which includes resetting the profile and PRL. In the previous version, this would not run and redirected me to the Self Service screen. After the update, it actually updated the profile/PRL successfully!
This time, when returning to the Self Service screen, I see that two test texts appear to have been sent! However, the people I sent them to have yet to see them (it's been about 5 minutes). A few more test texts have been sent my way, but as before, nothing is arriving.
Is there any way to test if the SMS messages from my phone are actually reaching a Sprint cell tower?
Second Edit: Updated to 5.03.651.3 I just received a text from Sprint (I decided to have them send a username). I have sent some more test texts, but so far nothing else is happening.

Although that should have worked, that's still not the latest RUU available. Try the first link from the OP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856

Ah, yes. I tried that at first but the firmware simply would not flash. Instead, I went to an early version that did flash and then just upgraded from there. Same behavior, so I was convinced that this was a problem on Sprint's end (I assume that an antenna failure would also cripple phone calls?)
I went to the other store as suggested and they directed me to call tech support or drop $75 on a replacement phone. I called the number, I told them the problem and what I did to try and fix it. They flipped some switch and that was it. Took maybe five minutes.
