My Internal Memory gone MIA? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I already searched the forums and found a few threads of other people suddenly missing their internal memory. The only solution i found was installing some hotfix and then doing some sort of wipe. This was ment for one specific version of the Diamond and i don't which one i got.
Anyways i have an exchange sync with a policy to use a keylock. Somehow in my pocket it sometimes tries to unlock and fails, thus enforcing the exchange policy of wiping my device It happened twice btw, and i did find a registry hack to disable it - but that's not the point in this post.
Anyways I can't see my internal memory - only the 100Mb default storage. Both on the phone and on PC link - the full 4Gb is missing.
What should i do?

if it doesnt appear even after wiping which i presume you mean to be a hard reset, then first try flashing a stock ROM. If that still doesnt work then do a hard reset selecting volume up to format NAND flash (which is your internal storage).

Thanks Supersanj - i finally remembered i posted a question here and after almost 2 months i pulled myself together and did a hard nand reset That wasn't too hard and it seems it solved the problem

Error: "The device is unable to boot because.."

I've been using the Sleuth 3.0 ROM for some days now and sometimes it takes a long time to boot my Vario III. The next message appears after some time:
"The device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from untrusted source. Press END to reset your device or press any other button to cancel. This operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to its factory default settings."
After a while the device reboots and it seems like it's working like it should. But it's far from stable. I did not manage to boot my device without the message popping up. In the end the device showed me the "Tap the screen to..." screen.
I've attached a photo of the actual message. Does anybody have a clue what causes this?
I wondered if I would create a new thread. But first I wanted to start inside the thread of the ROM I'm using.
I've removed all files from the StartUp folder to my SD-Card to see if it solves the problem.
Unfortunatly it did not.
For the moment I've returned to a WM6.0 ROM to see if it's okay for now.
Had the same problem with the XDA Live 1.5 ROM.
I've repeated the HardSPL procedure again. After this I've installed the Sleuth 3.0 ROM. Seems ok for now. But have to test a few day's to see if it's reliable again.
For the moment I'm using the Treo 750 again
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but... Did you do a hard reset of your device immediately after flashing to the 6.1 ROMs?

Actually I did... ...what I did the last time was:
- Hard reset
- Repeat HardSPL
- Flashed Sleuth's ROM v3.0
- Hard reset
- Flashed Niki's Radio ROM
- Hard reset
Now it seems to work, but I doubt that everybody is repeating the same steps mentioned above...
Everything went well until today. Got the message again.
I get the feeling that it's caused by some program.
Why?
Because I did a hard reset and after this I did multiple soft resets.
It was okay. But as soon as I put back the Backup I've created with Sprite it showed me the error right at the first reboot.
I hard reset my device again and will see how long it takes when using a clean ROM...
me I'm having this message after trying to setup a cooked ROM for my HTC Touch HD
did I screw my device? !!!!!!!!1
Unable to Boot ..?
I had the same problem recently with a ATT Tilt 2 but I found that I had data corruption on my SD Card. So I copied all my data from my SD Card to my PC, re-formatted my SD Card, and re-copied my data back to my SD Card. I had a 8gb
SD Card. For some reason the Windows XP pc couldn't read all the data in the SD Card. That was the reason why I re-formatted the SD Card.
Now I have no problems what so-ever. So look at corrupted data being the problem.
bump
yeah ive been getting this lately, gona format my sd card now and see if that does the trick
just to comfirm, a format of the sd card does the trick.
back to normal now
(thought it was my rom :O)

Internal Storage ?

Hello Guys,
I did a hard reset my Diamond and installed on it Elite 2.0
I then noticed that anything I placed in the internal storage was not deleted after the hard reset.
Can someone explain this to me ?
what's the difference ?
where should I install the softwares I want ?
thanks a lot guys.
You can install software wherever you want - but some may not work properly after hard reset as it need registry keys etc ... . Internal Storage is not erased after hard reset. It`s because of lack of microdrive slot so you can make your backups to internal storage when are you going to do hard reset. If you want to clean Internal Storage you can do it from Settings menu.
And finally if you used search you could find all this info here as this was mentioned several times.

Help? How do you retrieve erased information from SD Card?

Does anyone know how to retrieve items accidentally deleted from a SD Card because of a hard reset? I had so many photos and I would like to see if I can get them back.
You'll hav to get a 3rd party application to do it and you're not promised to get them back. It scans the whole card and just takes forever.

a Hard reset would not delete files on your SD card. You must have had the photos saved to your phone memory.

I thought that it wouldn't erase them either. I have done hard resets before and my items were never erased before. I made sure everything I wanted to keep was on the memory card for this reason. But for some reason this time it erased everything. I guess this was one of those freak accidents. This is why I am asking for help.
I appreciate any help on this issue.
You did something wrong then because there's no logical way they could've erased that way. On the other side, you should have followed flashing procedures by removing the memory card and sim
Your so right, kareem9nba. I should have known better. Thank you for your help.
This is why every week, I copy all the contents of my SD card (where I keep everything) To my Desktop PC in a folder I call "SDBackup" I've working with Computer long enough to know, if you don't have a backup, you are asking for trouble.
People call this Murphy's Law.
I had an issue similar to this that scared the crap out of me.
I took my SD card out of my phone, powered off beforehand, and then loaded it into my speedy microSD adapter so I could copy lots of data from my computer to it. Upon inserting the card into my monitor's SD reader, Vista gave me to "You must format this card before it can be used" message.
It took 3 removals and reinsertions to get my PC and my Tilt to see the files again. I promptly backed up my files and did a full format on my storage card. Everything's been fine since.
Im a little more paranoid and do it at least once every couple of days, just because Im on the forum alot and frequently see horror stories where people end up losing alot of their stuff.
Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101
Very Interesting Question that made me perform a new expirement
to answer your question directly best thing is to use a 3rd party application called Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 it will recover data even after format or delete by mistake.
but in your case its not necessary - hard reset only delete internal storge (sd card data is intact)
i did an expirement ( i stored photos and documents in my phone) and i performed a hard reset... i used Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 and guess what i managed to retrieve the TOC of my INTERNAL STOREAGE but not the files... but i guess if i looked for a more powerful application i could retrieve the files themselves
i flashed new rom and used Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 (resulting 0 files or 0 TOC to retrieve)
conclusion of my experiment that may not relate 100% with your question is if you hard rest (some of your data can be retireved) if you flash new rom or reflash a rom (0 data can be accessed) using commercial softwares
best luck and look for our experts comments

[Q] Recover data from internal storage

Please does anybody know what´s the best program to recover data from internal storage?? It´s very strange, but after flashing new ROM my internal storage is totally clear - I lost 3,5GB of data
I tried Power Data Recovery - that works, but it found only half of lost files..
My backups from PIM backup were also stored on there so how to recover it??
Thx for your help I´m an idiot - I left my backup only there n didn´t copy to PC
I never make and backups.. and after flashing the device all the data on internall storage remains intact.. as it should be.. Flashing shouldnt have to do anything with your internal storage..

So I lost all data n really don´t know what it caused...is there any way to recover it??
Dont know for shure.. I tryed recovering few times data from my hard drive.. but I never recovered more than 20% of data..
You can try if you like with this app... http://www.r-studio.com/

Some HardSPL have the possibility to clear Internal Storage as well. When you perform Hard Reset procedure: just after you press 3 magic keys and get color boot screen, you get the gray backround with the message like: "Press VolUp to reset (or resume defaults) the device"..
I guess Olinex SPL got second one: Press VolDown to reset and clear the InternalStorage...
I guess this may be the problem.

Thx man I´ll try it...for me is most important to recover some jpg photos and PIM backups files. By "Power data recovery" I found 70% of all lost data, but most of the pictures-photos are corrupted n I don´t know how to fix them.
Edited: Yes this issue with HardSPL I probably have, ´cause like I wrote, after flashin new ROM the phone after first launch n installin all of apps reseted itself n the process was simillar like when you do Hard reset manually - after restart it wanted to press vol up to boot - that means it made Hard reset I think n I couldn´t stop it)))
Edited: So I tried about 5 programs n did number of scans with the same results - 372 files found, but at least two thirds of them are corrupted or damaged so can´t be recovered..unfortunatelly most of the "health" files are mp3s n its´ tags (pictures) n that´s all (theese i got in my pc), all 48 wallpapers (also got in my pc), but only 3 photos n no backup file...I´m f....ing IDIOT that I never backed up these files to my pc
Thanks guys for your answer))
I have a similar problem - I've lost important data from my Diamond. I've tried recovering it with few programms (Easy Recovery, Power Data Back) and they've found most of lost files from Main Storage. But the problem is that these programms don't detect Internal Storage, so I can't even try recovering my data from it...Is there any way to make the programms see Internal Storage (if yes, which..?) or maybe I should change sth in settings of Internal Storage?
2months before i accidantly formated internal storage.
tried wih few apps(o&o,norton...) result was almost 0
than i installed recover my files and i succed to recover almost ecerything.,so try with this app, hope i helped.
Thanx, it's seems to be a great programm, but still it detects only my computer's drivers, it doesn't detect Internal Storage. Can you describe more precisely what've you done?
Damn...
OK we all make mistakes but yes me too I cleared the 4gb drive when conected to my PC thinking it was my usb pen drive DOH!
but i recovered 85% using EASEUS data recovery software worked a beaut...
goodluck and hope u get ure files back.

when connecting diamond to pc choose disk drive, than app should see internal storage.
good help!!

Reset device and now cannot install to internal memory.

I have been playing with my diamond and now that I know what programs I want to run - decided to reset my to factory defaults and install only the programs I want.
I reformatted all memory (4gig and system) and everything was back to normal sprint as I recieved it.
I started installing the apps I wanted, and realised that I no longer had the option of installing to the 4 gig area. (even though that is where I was running the cab from.)
The memory is there and appears to be fine, but anytime I install something, it installs to the internal memory and never gives me the options of where to install it.
Anyone have any idea what I have done to mess this up? Was working fine before the reset and as I said, I can still see the internal storage (and run the .cab files from there) Even the programs I had installed to internal memory before, no longer give me that option. I am lost as to what to do.
Thanks,
Michael
Since you just reformatted I'd try another hard reset and see if you don't get a better first load.

Tried a hard reset and reformatting the data (not at the same time) and still the same issue. When I install a program, it installs straight to the internal memory and I do not have a choice to load it anywhere else.
Any other suggestions?
Just got off the phone with HTC and it is a known issue with some phones after reformatting internal memory.
Basically issue was proven out by going to windows - setttings - Programs - Memory and looking at the Storage Card tab and there was no card installed....
Solution is to reformat the internal storage with your computer. (hook up the phone to the computer and select "hard drive" rather than "ActiveSync", right click on the drive letter that appears and select Format.
Problem was that with my XP machine it was like trying to format a floppy drive without a disk in the drive. (just kept locking up and giving me errors) My wifes Vista machine was able to format it just fine. (BTW - quick format will not work and you want to format it as FAT32)
I am now back in business.... HTC tech support was great and got my issue resolved for me.
