I ve been convertin videos to watch on my g1 but every video I try lags
Im using a class 6 sdcard, I ve tried setting my cpu to max, which does help a bit but still the lag
I ve run the converted files (mp4) on my pc and they work perfectly.
The sound and video quality is great but it jumps every couple of seconds, I ve tried 4 different video players.
Anyone got any advice how I can fix this? I ve tried varyin bitrates but all with the same results.
convert the video to a lower bit rate
thanks for your reply
I had to go down to 120 kbs before I stopped the lag, qualities pretty poor but it runs pretty smooth now
I use BadaBoom and convert files to about 800, before I notice a lag issue. I have even converted some to 1200 and they work good. You could also try going into airplane mode, but I have never had to.
hi thanks for your response, ive certainly bookmarked badaboom but im afraid my graphics card isnt up to it and im on ubuntu.
I ve been using avidemux to convert, perhaps its jus my pc thats causin issues.
Thanks for the tip on airplane mode, didnt think of that
Big thanks 2 JackD3ath
airplane mode fixed it perfectly and iam only fillin my fone up with videos becuz i am flying
Now I jus hav to reconvert the 11 files I set at 120 kbs bitrate a little higher, but hey it works
You can use handbrake to do that on linux. The settings for our phones are about the same as for an Iphone. I think I had to change the video codec (in the video tab) to the ffmeg setting.

Hey Guys(and Gals just incase i didn't see ya ),
i gotz a prob...But b4 i start, let me say if i type alot it is to avoid you getting frustrated and me being a rEtArD and not covering all my bases on this end!!!
i upgraded my ROM on my Cingular 8125 to faria's new WM6 and otherwise it runs great. But here's the thing, All my movies are choppy i.e. i hear steady sound but all the video patches/glitches. Being the bold and steady nerved being i am(kidding) i decided to use my editing programs to shrink the files and see if that worked but to no avail. so what do i do and if possible is there a thread that i may learn from to cover any other media player problems that may arrouse?
Did you try overclocking? That may help. Also, did you try more than 1 video player? TCPMP seems to usually work better than WMP.
Yeah i tried it. Faria's rom comes with some overclock program and i tried using it but it didn't make any difference, well not much at any rate. ANd i really need to fix this as i'm kinda defending the pocket pc name(childish i know) my friend just got his Iphone and is trying to show me up after all the work i did fixing and fixing up my wizard(cing. 8125) . so i gotta get it to work! i will also try another program as well... by chance is Real Player any good? Oh yeah before i forget, is there anyway the fact i have a 2gb card be part of my problem? i read some thread on here that some PPC phones have a hard time with 'em.
Try overclocking to 247 mhz and see if that helps, anything under that probably won't make much of a difference and 247 mhz seems to be the safe speed that most people overclock to.
I've never tried real player, I've pretty much always stuck with TCPMP. Theres a setting in the options that will use a larger buffer size for movies on your SD card, you might try checking that setting and see if it helps at all. It's under options-->settings-->select page-->buffering.
Wizards don't usually have problems with 2 Gb cards that I know of, it's the 4 Gb cards that have all the problems. One other thing you might try if you have a card reader and that is to stick it in the card reader and use windows defrag on it.
The only other thing I can think of at the moment is maybe it's the format the movie is in. My best success with movies has been using divx.
One other thing that I just though of, did you try shrinking the the video size to 320 x 240 instead of it's original size? That should speed it up quite a bit.
i decided to do the tcpmp and it got better and i ran the omap to help but the video still freezes up periodically. Is that usual and if not what else can i do as i already tried compressing the vid format and defragged as you requested?
Wait...Wait... i think i got it i increased the buffer size to 29000 dunno if that's safe tell me quick. but it is working. and if this fixes it i can tell you right now that Iphone ain't got S___ on us!!!!!
Increasing the buffer size shouldn't cause any problems. I'm guessing you already know that by now though since you posted that over an hour and a half ago. Make sure when you run video that there's nothing else runnign in the background. Either using x-button or going to the memory app in settings will tell you if anything else is running and allow you to shut it down.
yeah i did. thanx 4 the help Xeno, that TCPMP fixed the prob rite up and it didn't cost $700 either. now on to finding some good programs... games esp. any suggestions???
Glad I could help. I can't help you a whole lot with the games cuz I don't have all that many. Try these links, they have tons of stuff you can download - http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php and http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ I would also suggest cLaunch - it let's you put links to your apps and games directly on your today screen and also BatteryStatus - if you don't already have it. Both you can find easily by googleing for them.
I noticed the same problem after upgrading to WM6. I haven't tried in quite awhile, so I don't know if different ROMS really make a difference or not, might have to try it to find out. I will try the buffer thing too, overclocking never really seemed to help much.
sweet
also know the speed of your sd.. i've had a cheapo $15 2gb x80 from ebay for a long time and it works flawlessly.. always use tcpmp.. I recommend a killer program called lathe.. you canfind it 'around'
http://www.omniquiti.com/store.php
well it's great you got the video smoother by increasing buffer size, but you have to realize that the iphone will always own our wizzards in terms of video performance, since their video cards are miles ahead of ours (which is why their photo browser with 3d flickering runs so seemlessly). I'd just be happy with having mediocre quality vids stream fairly smoothly on the wizzard, but I sure as hell wouldn't brag or compare it to an iphone.

Mine is a 150x Ritek. Never had any performance issues from it. Quite the opposite, in fact, when I've put it into my card reader on my PC with an adapter.
I know i've read with ram hacks games are slow, what about movies? I watched a movie from my phone for the first time and it was pretty good (office space) a little lag. I have a class 6 card if that matters.....
I believe that movies should also lag when you are using 10mb ram hack...this hack takes all the memory that was for video, and uses it on other things, so it should also afect the video playback...
Think as if you take out your video card from your PC, what its going to happen? Everything that is involved with the video card is going to be affected, because its not there anymore....something like that...
Srry for my bad english, but i guess you get the point...
Ok cool thanks. The lag wasnt too bad. Thanks for the reply btw.
Hey guys, need a bit of help...
Been using the Z a few days now, and I'm having 2 issues...
WiFi and Bluetooth won't work together at the same time, one knocks the other off whenever I'm browsing and listening to music on my Bluetooth stereo... In the ratio of about 5:1 for WiFi:Bluetooth like...
That's one issue that's a little annoying.
Another is that video playback over WiFi is broken... If I load up a video on the YouTube app, depending on video length, the video normally freezes around the 40 second mark. If I load a video up in my browser, more of the video will load, but never the full video, could freeze 3 minutes in, 5 seconds in, but never fails to freeze.
I've reverted to stock YouTube app, cleared cache, didn't solve a sausage.
I haven't gotten to the end of a single video since I bought the device.
EDIT: Above issue is most likelyan android wide YouTube issue, if the comments on Play are anything to go by.
And that's on top of the Bluetooth/WiFi clashing that I mentioned above.
Not what I expect from a quad core device with 2GB ram like! Any ideas? Faulty handset? Factory reset? Return the handset? I've never rooted or used custom firmware ;so don't really know how to go about it, open to any suggestions to get the best out of the hardware...
Thanks in advance guys.
WiFi/Bluetooth issue
Seems the YouTube issue is an android wide issue, sorry for bringing it up.
Just leaves the Bluetooth/WiFi clashing issue where they keep knocking each other off while they're both being used.
I've played with the settings in the YouTube app, but can't seem to find the fix for this. On previous devices, once I select a certain resolution for playback, that selection sticks for the rest of the videos I watch (until I back out of YouTube). On the S8, for some strange reason, the playback resolution resets to 480 every time I start a new video. I'm getting tired of tapping the screen, hitting those three dots, selecting quality, and then choosing 1080.
Maybe I just need to wait for an update to the YouTube app, but perhaps there is a setting somewhere that I haven't found? Thank you all.
It's because you opted to do T-Mobile's Binge On. 480P YouTube videos don't count toward your monthly data.

Damn, thank you very much. I'm surprised because, firstly, I don't remember ever turning that back on (I wonder if TMobile turned it on when I got my new device), and secondly I didn't think it was active when on WiFi. I'll switch that setting, restart the device, and hope for the best. Peace.
Still a problem...
Well, it's been over 24 hours since I made sure Binge-On was shut off. I've cleared cache in recovery and the YouTube app has updated since. Unfortunately, videos in YouTube still default to 480 when I'm on WiFi. Anyone else having this problem?
Make sure you don't have limit mobile data usage turned on as well.
But I'm in the same boat - I have turned off my Binge on and Youtube still reverts to 480p between videos
Binge on has been turned off for over a month.

Yeah, Mobile data limiter is switched off within YouTube settings, not that it should effect video quality over WiFi anyhow.
Also, I've cleared YouTube app data and set up everything fresh. All videos on WiFi still default to 480, I have to manually switch for every video. It's quite annoying.
More info...
I switched default screen resolution on my S8 to QHD, and now my YouTube videos all default to 720p over WiFi. This is interesting, and leads me to believe this is an S8 system setting issue. Please let me know if anyone can replicate this, thanks.
Man, that would drive me nuts. Thinking of getting this for my wife, so thankful to come across this thread as she watches a lot of YouTube videos.

Right. Not sure if everyone is having this problem though. I think it's safe to say there are some early bugs that hopefully get squashed with an update soon.
Mine doesn't change back. The only ones that go back to 480P or less are videos that aren't HD or high res. Tried this video kn 1080 P and it plays fine and takes advantage of the full screen capabilities of this phone.

I watched on the YouTube music app.

Yeah, that video looked dull at first, but after a moment looked good, and when I checked it was at 1080. So at least the YouTube Music app shows in HD. But YouTube is still not behaving.

I can get 720 P and above if the video is recorded like that. Don't have any idea why your having issues. Could be an issue with your ISP

Definitely not my ISP. This is device-specific.
The entire Questions and Answers forum is littered with threads about very random bugs that only certain people are having, and are difficult to reproduce. Very strange.

It's weired how some people can have issues with something on a device and other's not have those issues on the same device. The thing us, it's not isolated to Samsung devices. I've seen it on LG, HTC, even Apple. Can even happen with cars, TV's, etc. Who knows why it happens.

And it's random video to video
I just clicked on the WW HD trailer - got 720p
Click on another video that I know is shot in 720p60 and it loads up as 360p
Both on wifi
It's not S8 specific. I have the same problem on my Galaxy Note 5. Let me know if anybody finds a fix. On Cricket Wireless. I use WiFi. Data limit is off. And I have default resolution set to 1080p in YouTube settings.
It still defaults every video to 480. Sometimes mid video then back again.
Internet is fast.
And, after today's update, which addressed a red tint that I never actually saw, the YouTube quality issue persists. I've tested this on three different WiFi networks, all fast. The problem still persists.

My videos stay at the selected quality level once selected. But they all start at around 480 when the S8 display is set to 1080.
anyone else seeing this bug?
I might try a factory reset to see if it corrects this annoying little bug. Please chime in if you have any info, TIA.
Hi, I have a problem when I take videos in 60fps. 4k or fullhd.
I always have jerks. An example on this video
At 10 seconds you can see the problem.
I tried to configure in h264 or h265 but it does not change anything...
Thank you in advance for your solutions.
Tried resetting the phone to the factory defaults?

I'm a videographer using this phone. Its a bit frustrating, but i think i know what the issue is. Dont use in built stabilization modes. They work, but they cause frames to drop out. I bought a gimbal system for the stabilization issue ( i needed to buy one anyway ) and the stutters are gone.

The problem is the same with me even if I disable stabilization.
