I already posted my eBuddy, but if anyone else has any other edited apks please share with us...only free apps however.
Slightly Modified E-buddy.
Hey, I've changed the eBuddy Icon, replaced the running Icon with the original notification icon and replaced the Notification Icon with the Eclair Messaging Icon. I felt they looked better (especially on Hero builds) its 100% stock otherwise, and since its a free app I'm sure this isn't illegal...here are some screen shots.

APK is inside attached zip...install like any other apk.
Can you tell me how you edited the apk file? I would like to get into doing this same sort of thing.
blackvyper: Open the apk with WinRAR or something similar, you'll find a drawables folder, inside that are the images you can edit. Once editting, put them back into the apk, and sign the apk . There're some instructions on signing apks here, one of them is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
thank you for this!!

I use to think it was a daunting task until I tried it out...editting APKs is one of the easiest things to do.
1. Set it so .apk's open with winrar...
2. extract the apk to a folder or ctrl+c ctrl+v the res>drawables folder into explorer (I do this so I can see the images I'm editing)
3. find the pngs u wish to alter (avoid .9.pngs unless u know what ur doing...I don't...so I avoid them lol)
4. alter/find replacements for selected pngs then ctrl+c ctrl+v them from the windows folder to the winrar open apk
5. within the open apk in winrar delete meta folder...
6. copy the modified apk to the auto-sign folder
7. run the script and rename then move/copy your_app_signed.apk to the sd card and install as usual.
***note...it is important that you keep the png size relatively the same for the most part...I tried to make a Buuf Hello IM and while it worked I forgot to resize the PNGs and it looks all out of wack...I have since abandoned the project however since eBuddy now works flawlessly without constant disconnects.
I have included a zip of the modified autosign script...I honestly forgot who originally made it but it has been very helpful so thank you to that person.
Those considering posting of modified files... should keep one thing in mind.
Free or not, you are still subject to the LICENSE TERMS.
Yes, it is possible to ILLEGALLY PIRATE a free app, and modification is *almost* guaranteed to be a license violation.
Note that without an explicit license, the developer STILL retains copyright, which includes the right against having their works bastardized. In other words, unless the app EXPLICITLY authorizes you to do what you want with it, it is a license or copyright violation to distribute modified versions of it.

Yes. Most themes are actually possible victims to C&D letters/emails.
Audio Manager
I changed the Audio Manager Widget to match the switcher widgets here on xda.
Here is the download link for the zipped APK.
The instructions above are great. I would recommend looking into 7-Zip its free and its awesome. If you want to change the *.9.png's there is a converter for normal pngs with the sdk.
Here's an image of what my audio manager looks like. There is a large and a small version of the widget. I also put the switcher widgets in the pic to show how it all looks.
Enjoy!!!

Thanks.
Surprised that they dont include them in their current roms.
Ya they should include them they are great and small brightness widget doesn't seem to work in Hero but everything else works great. One other thing to mention is the Audio Manager seems to case acore force closes in cyanogen time. Atleast that is how it goes for me.

I installed this AudioWidget apk and now I can't get the regular market apk to install anymore.
Proxin, are you talking about installing the audio manager from the market? If so it should work. Worst case is just uninstall then reinstall through the market. I hope the helps if not let me know its a great app.
I have changed icon in app Flashlight.

Hey there..i was wondering if you got your app drawer tab to look like by using an app, or perhaps it came with a theme for donut/cupcake, or is it a themed hero rom, or maybe you made it yourself. Lol. I just wanna know where you got it, so i can make mine look like that too. Looks pretty slick! Thanks.

I uninstalled, removed any traces of it (data, dalvik-cache, etc) from Terminal, but it still wouldn't install.
I didn't have access to adb for a while but when I got around to it, I used adb to install the modded one again, then uninstalled it from Application Manager & reinstalled the one from the Market. My problem was fixed.

Tutorial 1.0 <- Hope to improve this tutorial as I learn more.
I have recently been searching all around the web to figure out how to make my own GDE themes after some time and some tinkering about I have come up with the noob man way to customize themes already made for GDE.
What you will need....
WinRAR
Droid Explorer
and
Your Favorite Photo Editor I use Adobe Photoshop
Before I explain how to mod existing themes to customize how you want it to be. I would like to give credit to original creators of the themes cause without them I would have no clue what I was doing rofl.
First you must have GDE New Home Expirence find it on market place or themes wont work.
Now download a theme that you like or would like to see look better I used Black HERO GDE theme. Download your theme to your phone problably will ask to install its ok install it.
Open Droid Explorer -> Browse Directories -> Find Data / App
Scroll threw the list find the theme you just installed.
Right Click on the Theme -> Copy -> Paste to your desktop or folder you plan on working out of.
EDIT "in the same directory Data/App right click on the theme again to uninstall it."
Right click the Theme APK you just downloaded -> Open With -> Select Winrar
Extract To -> Your Working Directory
Browse Extracted Files -> res/drawable
This is where modding the images comes into play most UI shown stuff is PNG so saving them as 24bit PNG files will work fine keeping transparency.
Open your apk back up with winrar cause when you mod the images from your working directory res/drawable you will need to drag and drop the files from that directory right into the apk thats open with winrar maintaining same directory structure.
Because we added files to the apk it broke the signature im guessing because it will not allow you to just copy over apk and install it. So first you must resign the apk package so close winrar now that your done copying your modded graphics. rename apk to zip change is ok windows will complain changing file extension yes.
Open Droid Explorer -> Tools -> Plugins -> Sign Package
Point it to your renamed apk file thats now zip open. It will say something like it was successful and make a copy of the file called signed rename that back to apk copy that file to phone and install.
If you have any questions, comments whatever please share. I wanted my own custom GDE theme and because im moding someone elses work I will not redistribute my work but will be glade to help anyone attempt this. Orange Hero is pretty cool will post screenshots of some of my own mods I have made. My next theme will be better as it wont use anyone elses work. I have found the information I was looking for on these forums.
WNP Vikings Theme
No longer using the tutorial above. I have begun turning this into its own theme and it shall be free on android market place in about 1 week. This is my first theme so any feedback on anything even theme ideas I am open for suggestions.

Working on iphone theme clone.
Now that I have created my first GDE Theme without moding someone elses work. I would like to do an iphone theme like the theme above I will post it here. When im all done hope to get started this week and have it done by new years. So untill then thanks for checking out my progress and I hope to bring some rocking free themes for GDE users. Would like to also say to other NFL fans out there if GDE don't have your NFL team theme drop me a pm or reply to this post with team name and the colors you would like to see and I will do something like the vikings theme but your own team.
Do you think you could make a hero them with the launcher bar lower?
I sure can give it a shot!
I can work on a more compact hero theme I kinda agree tray is a bit high noticed that with my vikings theme. Compacting tray I might have compact icons a bit being area will be much smaller to work with. give me like 2 days will have something after xmas or even today if im not to busy.
*Doing it today will have apk posted tonight with screenshot.*
I expect to run into some issues with icons but I will work them out with version updates. just will get basic 2 icons working atleast the ones I use in hero theme which is call on the left and contacts on the right of tray menu.
Will be called GDE Minihero. Because market place is 25$ to submit my stuff I make I will continue to post themes here untill either I come up with money or I get some kind of donation.
Rough Design have not changed much but toolbar reducing its height. I will make it more hero like once I got more time.
Thanks man. I have been working at it and have got the to soft button on the side to highlight green when selected. but they are currently just plain icons. i will try and post a pic later.
If your working at something and have messenger I would be glade to collaborate on some themes and stuff. Thats if your interested.
M$ live messenger - [email protected]
I'm currently do not have messenger on my comp. Would it be possible to send me the apk to the theme and I will add my work to it and send it back then we can collab like that.
here it is DOWNLOAD HERE
Nothing really changed atm other then 1 toolbar but if your adding to it when your all done I will rebuild with eclipse so I can change version number.
my custom gde i themed up a bit...
my logo at the bottom and a microphone texture for background.. i themed my cyan one..but i havent loaded it up yet i will post in a bit when i finish my boot screen..
Thats looking good!
Gonna try something unique today with that toolbar I feel there is so much more that can be done.
can someone make a GDE with this hero theme launcher.
if you need the res .png files it can be downloaded thru this link

Thanks Ace for the PNG's will not only help me make either of them themes above but gave me alot of stuff to work with for custom themes.

Wait but would it be possible to do a NeXus launcher?
NeXuS launcher.
Would have to write separate app for that with its own UI. GDE only allows so much. Would it be possible to get nexus launcher APK out of Nexus Rom? If not I can make an attempt at creating something but atm till new year I am moving so im rather busy making themes was easy just photoshop and something to compile with programming takes more time & alot of trial and error for me cause im a C# guy.
@cyberz3r0 thanks for workin on the xda sense ui launcher
and its the 2nd one you posted that i want for a GDE theme
I played with a couple hero ROM's back in the day, but have been running Cyanogen for a while.
Due to the 2.1 ROMs floating around I figured I would check out the old Hero ROMS to see if they picked up speed... and they have. A LOT.
My only issue is that the two ROMs I tried doesnt have a real flip clock anymore. They are the same as the weather widget app. Before you could actually watch them flip around. Also, in the past, everytime you went to the home sceen showing the weather widget it would go animated. Now you have to give it a vertical swipe to see it do its thing.
What gives?
HTC did an update to help with the speed of the Sense UI (removal of the flipping animation from the clock among other things)
Is there anything I can do to get the old flip clock back. That was half the reason of running a hero ROM.

There is a paid app on the market that looks just like it, I think it cost like $.99 or $1.99.
Theres another app called Flip Clock but its just that. It flips though
meh, the features kind of useless anyways, slows down the phone for a flip animation lol...
yeah true.

Oh so true. But then again, what is the point of multi-touch when you can zoom with one finger?
Its cool and I like it. lol.
Ok so I found this in an old thread
"go find the old one that has all of the animations you like then extract the .zip folder then go to system, framework, then find framework-res.apk, extract that, then click on it, then go to res, then anim, and theres all your animations."
I found an old ROM with the flip clock and I want to put it into MLIGN's as his seems to run the best/fastest on my phone. Does anyone know what he means by "then go to res, then anim"? Can't I simply replace the framework-res.apk in MLIGN's?

No you can't just replace as the framework controls more than just animations, it controls just about evry aspect of Android's UI and android would brek if it did not have the correct framework-res.By open up res then anim, he means rename framework-res.apk as framework-res.zip, unzip it and you'll find what you're looking for

oh ok. That makes more Sense (lol). If I did that would I need to resign anything? If I do, is it the framework-res.apk, the final update.zip file, or both. (I have never done any of that BTW)
Would it be better just to replace the files somehow through adb or via the console just to see if it works?
Also, what is the worse case scenario with all of this? I can't brick it right? What makes sense to me is the worse I would have to do is boot into recovery and re-flash the ROM.
Thanks a lot! You guys are awesome!

I don't think you could brick, it doesn't affect your spl, radio, or recovery..
Ok, I hope I did this right.
I opened up the framework-res.apk on both MLIGN's and JAC's 1.6r2a as I am told that has the old flip clock. I couldn't tell which .xml would make it flip. There were a lot more xml's in MLIGN's than JACS by the way. I took all of the xml's from JAC's and pasted them into MLIGN's so it replaced them.
I then re zip'ed framework-res.apk and signed them using Stericson's signing bat file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
From there I just put it into the update file for maps v3.4. That way I wouldn't need to make a new update-script file and it kills two birds with one stone. Then I resigned that.
Does that sound right? What about the CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, AND MANIFEST.MF files? They seem to be different in each update.zip file I come across.
Edit: After fooling around a little bit more, I found out that the CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, and MANIFEST.MF changed when I signed the files! So I understand that now. I guess my only question/issue is if it is ok, that I changed a bunch of the xml files in framework-res.apk/res/amin/ when I think I should have only changed the ones pertaining to the flip clock. I just dont know how to tell which ones those are.
i did this for the hero, maybe it helps
see here, the flipclock is a widget. i deodexed the file from the old rom, now it works on the latest released roms for the hero.
Animating Flip Clock Widget
I have a clock widget with a real animating flip, which does not require sense. Check my thread.

I've been dabbling around with making text icons, so if anyone has any requests, i'll start making them for you. All i'm going to need is what you want them to look like, and a list of icons you want made. I.E. "Google Talk", "Google Mail", "Web Browser" and goodies like that. I'm also gonna need to know how you want things said, so make sure you spell it EXACTLY as you want it for your text icon.

Well ...give me a list of what you want, and i'll make em up, and tell me what you want them to look like ...if you want a specific font, let me know that too
Well since you are asking for specifics, I'll give ya some for a decent starting point. Right now I just use Tallmin icons (all white, since my dock/wallpaper color changes all the time. Thatd be a nice one to base work off of (google it). So nice white or light grey ones with some shadows would be nice.
Font? I don't know it all depends on the user and which font they flashed over. Haha. I think personally Russel squared would look nice (one of the ones included in the font changing thread) or any other ones that were in that thread. After all, those are the ones most people out there are using as their system fonts, so having them match wouldn't be a bad thing
Edit: Oh and as for which ones to make, Id take all the standards, Web browser, File Manager, Music Player, Call Dialer, Open Games, Open Navigation, Google Maps, SetCPU, Google Inbox (Or Google Mail, Gmail, etc etc) Text Messaging, Android Market, Take Pictures (or open camera) idk, like I said I use the tallmin ones, they would give you alot of good ideas for examples too, seeing as most of those icon packs have ALOT of different ones.

You need Launcher Pro and what you do is long press on the desktop>select shortcuts>applications>(Now you select the app you wanna place on your desktop)>then you should see a "Edit Shortcut" window and you can now "touch the icon to change" which will bring up the gallery and you should be able to see the folder containing the text icons. Navigate to the one you want to replace the default icon, hit OK and thats it!(Remember to erase the name under the icon in the "Edit Shortcut"). I created a folder on the root of my SD Card and named it "Icons" and I place all my icon folders in there and they always show up in the gallery whenever I go to replace the default icon! You do the same for the dock icons, just long press and follow the on screen menu's.
Edit: Nevermind, I used a file manager and finally found it. Sneaky Lil picture it is.
Ok. I want the Samsung Epic (touchwiz) application icon. If u could find it, that would be great

Big credit to SnowBEE for this APK.
03.10.11 - Updated OG version and FULL version to 0.8.4 Pro Trial. BOTTOM to follow soon.
NOTES:
There are plenty of bugs, just like with the Market version. I can't fix these problems. Unable to login to Twitter/FB, Missing FB and Twitter photos, missing calendar settings button, Timeline posts are out of order, etc. I will keep these updated as SnowBEE updates.
Only works on certain Launchers, check here.
Only the one widget is shown in the screenshots, but all widgets are themed
All of my APK's are resigned by me, which is why you will need to uninstall SnowBEE's version before installing mine. Refer to the installation instructions at the bottom of this post.
All themes are contained in one APK file. You can change the theme by selecting the settings button on any of the widgets.

Trying to use them over your LauncherPro 0.8.2 and it says "Launcher not supported". Maybe they look for Fede's package, signature or whatever?
Great job. They look amazing.

Thanks. He says it's for GoLauncher, ADW, etc. I don't think LPP is supported yet. Prolly because LPP has its own widgets. I got the same error so had to test them on Go and ADW.

Updated the OP. Added full screen version.
The login screen for facebook doesn't work for me. Hit login and it starts to load the facebook screen then backs out of it. Anyone else get this? Using ADW.

Yeah, I'm getting problems too. Twitter as well. Even on the original unchanged apk. I'm looking in to it.

I'm thinking it is because there is some remains for the stock version someplace. I redid my rom with complete wipes and it works fine now.

That's weird because you think a data wipe on the program would do the trick. I just tried it and it still isn't working. Still looking...
As soon as I get caught up on all my bills I will make a donation to you. I def love the work you have done with this as well as on LPP. And maybe someday hope to see a color option for the nextang theme.

Thanks man. I'll take a look at Nextang.
I resolved the login issue, my emulator needed to be restarted because it lost internet connection. So it wasn't the apk, not for me anyway.
Great work on this Man!
Well I've the twitter error... It seems that I'm correctly logged in, as I was able to tweet something... But I'm not able to see any tweet from the widget.
Any idea ?
Thanks!

I got that too. It just kept cycling between the "allow" webpage and the widget settings. I get it on the original apk too. I've only played with this thing for 2 days, so I'll have to see if I can fix it or if the dev is trying to fix it.
Stay tuned.

Two things, which may seem very stupid, your data service is working when trying to login, correct? And, try wiping data from the application then login again.
Let me know. I'm trying to fix a problem that the original dev hasn't responded to yet.
Just some good old candy with lots of Transparency. Thought I would share my theme I use. This is made for the Virtuous 2.35.0 from the UOT Kitchen and graphic changes.
Thanks to M10 tools, Liamstears, kalagas, Capy and Virtuos team. May have to mount data and system in recovery before flashing. HTC weather lockscreen background modded, Htc People, mail, freindstream, weather widgets transparent. Status bar transparent. Plenty of color icon changes and alittle bit more.
Link dropbox.

Hi trock62, great work!!!
I've got a question about the "Personalize" button on the home screen. The one next to Phone. It has the Personalize icon but on button press it loads the internet app. Is this by design?
Also I've been looking for a better locking ring but can't seem to find one that works with VU 2.35, there are plenty that work with Android 2.3.4 but not in VU. Is there something about VU that causes a problem?
Thanks for a great theme!!!
Personalize button is set in the tweaks to an app of your choice. Change the lock ring is is fusion and idlescreenbase.sold using m10 tools

Very nice theme. I really like the spirit of transparency.
How can you put the wallpaper on the desktop lockscreen weather?
Again thank you for the great job.

1. Image needs to be resized to EXACTLY 540x960. You can do this in any image editor.
2. Flip the image upside down.
3. The images MUST be PNG format.
Once you have this done, you want to grab the IdleScreen_Weather.apk out of the rom youre usings zip folder. Its located in system/apps. Once you get the apk, you want to open up m10 and click load file. Navigate and select the IdleScreen_Weather.apk.
Once this loads, you want to click the tab that says m10 Files. At the bottom of the screen, youll see where it says Decode Images, make sure you check that box.
You want to double click the Lockscreen_weather_bg.m10. It will ask if you want to decompile it. Click yes. At this point, youll be brought to the next tab which is Editor.
From here you want to expand until you see Textures. Under there you will see three spots labeled Texture. Click that and it will bring up an image to the right. Right click on this image and click "Show in Explorer". You will see three png files in here. You want to replace each one with the images you created earlier. This is important though. Make sure you copy the name of each file youre replacing EXACTLY. Im not responsible for any errors you make on renaming.
Once you get all three of the images replaced, go back to start and then save .apk Make sure to use the same name.
