Except for MyBackup Pro, does anyone know where I could get the free phone contacts to SD card backup apps?
I gave up with the HTC Sync. I lost all my phone & Outlook contacts once I performed the sync! I hate and will stop to use this apps for now!
As far as your contacts go, if you have your phone synced and logged into Google, all your contacts should be backed up there. I've flashed and wiped my phone many times and all I had to do is log into my account and link it to my phone in order to get my contacts back.
For SMS/MMS/Bookmarks, I do use MyBackup Pro though.

I backed up with sprite backup using the stock at&t rom, then flashed to l26s new rom and now sprite backup only reloads some of my settings and my damn contacts are gone. Is there a way to manually extract the contacts out of the sB backup file also why does activesync think that i dont have outlook installed The damn window is open right beside it and it still says install outlook any help would be appreciated thanks ahead of time
did you check out the MIGRATION settings in the backup menu under options? you can choose to migrate your settings to another device (it migrates call logs, contacts, calender, tasks and categories...better yet for contacts to never fail and to always be updated is to use an exchange server for your pocket outlook email (i use a free one called mail2web i dont know what id do without it, push email is far superb over pop3)
well that would have worked before i backed up but doesnt help much now. thank u . i dont use email on my phone i just lost a lot of phone numbers. I just need to find a way to get to the phone numbers again. syncing with outloo didnt work because it says outlook isnt installed
So I had all contacts on the sim copied to the phone.
Which meant I had everybody in my contact list twice.
I thought I'd solve this so yesterday I updated my outlook contact list and made it nice and clean.
I assumed the phone would just update with the new data from outlook and I deleted all numbers from my phone (oops), it appears the phone has the 'leading' contacts list so now it deleted all my outlook contacts as well.
Is there any way to restore this data or do I have to find all the numbers again and put them in the phone again so that I don't lose it all again when syncing?
Grtz!

OOPS indeed! If you delete everything on your SIM and delete everything on your phone and then sync with your PC (which hopefully has ALL your contacts still), then the PC will put everything back on your phone. I always delete all contacts on my SIM. I don't see the point in having any contacts there. After all, all contacts/appointments etc. are always backed up on the PC. It may be worth backing up whatever is left on your phone with PIM backup or similar first though.
Good luck.
Hey all. I was trying to get my mac's address book app to sync with my google contacts and I accidentally erased all my google contacts, which then synced to my phone!
I have a Nandroid backup of my contacts however, but whenever I restore them, android re-syncs and deletes them. Taking a look at the SQL for the contacts, there appears to be a sync time and sync version number. Is there a way I can change this to make it re-sync from my phone to google contacts? If so, what do I have to change it to?
Thanks in advance.
I would nandroid restore to when you had all your contacts, make sure you don't let it sync (disable data/wifi). Make a backup of your contacts using MyBackup Pro, then let it sync, restore your contacts with MyBackup Pro (they'll save as phone contacts I believe instead of Google Contacts). Then sync again (uncheck the box and recheck it should get it to sync again) and it should re-upload all your contacts back to Google. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice. Since the restore I had was of a faulty build, I couldn't access the data settings fast enough before it started to sync, so I just took the contacts.db file and re-added my contacts manually.
So can you use AdressBook.app to edit your google contacts (do they sync with google's servers)?
I wonder if there is an app that could backup my phonebook cause tried several times with HTC Sync unsuccesfully

is there anything like PPCPimBackup for android? I am looking for something that will backup contacts, calendar, etc. to the microSD card.

How to backup android and HTC Hero phone

All of your contacts are backed up to the Google servers. If you go to your Gmail account on the internet and click contacts, you will see them all. My phone went in for repair and 5 minutes after setting up my phone all of my contacts had downloaded to my phone.
You can also use/try:
http://beta.flexilis.com
Flexilis features:
Anti-Virus
Backup (Phonebook and media)
Locate: (GPS location and "Scream" mode to locate your lost/stollen/ misplaced device)
There are two programs that perfectly worked on my htc hero: Sprite backup for android and Vcard IO. First one options for contacts, sms, app etc backup.
rippir, thanks for the info. I just got an HTC Hero 2 days ago and have been on the lookout for all the "must have" apps for it. Just downloaded Lookout (which was formerly Flexilis) and am very impressed.
Good info!
I use MyBackupPro from Rerware. It backs Data & Apps to your SD card or to their secure website. You can even schedule auto backups either daily or weekly at a specified time.
Free version for testing if you wish.
Small fee for this app if you like it. I used the free verison 2 hot minutes, fell in love and bought the Pro version.
Found in the Android Market, search for: MyBackup
You can see more infor on their site: www.rerware.com
you can backup your contacts from gmail
go to gmail -> contacts -> Export
So my phone died and is now miraculously working. So now I am backing everything up in case it happens again.
Here's the thing. Google sync never works perfectly for me and the HTC backup doesn't either.
I've tried MyBackup in the past but whenever I used it it would mess up the contacts. It backed them all up but upon restoring each entry of a contact (i.e. home phone, mobile home, notes, etc.) became a new contact with that name. So instead of having one Bob in my contact list I would have six bobs, one with the cell number, another with an email, and so on.
I was wondering what backup apps you guys could recommend that restore the contacts properly. I only care about the contacts. MyBackup works well with SMS and call logs so if need be I can use different apps for different backups and what I need now is a good contact solution.
Thanks
Helium from Clockworkmod. Its the best method of backup for non rooted users IMHO. https://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon
I have never experienced a problem restoring my Google account contacts, I take it you have removed the account and tried to set it up again to see if it will let you save the contacts. You can verify that they are saved if you log onto gmail when using a browser.

Thanks for the suggestion but trying out the free one it backs up apps but the people/contacts app doesn't show up in the list meaning it doesn't do what I need...
