SD Card Failure - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so my Micro SDHC card failed on me the other day (no ones fault but my own I know), and I have CM 4.2.3.1 installed and themed, and after setting up my new CLASS 6 card, formatting, and re-flashing the rom, my phone will work again, but all of the apps that I had installed, say their still installed, and I cannot uninstall them, or reinstall them, not even from a file manager. I'm looking for the location of these apps so that I can remove any trace link to them, and hopefully remove that link, and reinstall them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Help] Can't detect apps (apps2sd)

Hi i'm using unlocked G1 with CynogenMod 3.4 ROM
I changed my SIM Card with another one, but after i turn it on all the apps that i installed in sd can't be detected. (in application manager only the apps from the rom is listed)
When i check the sd card & phone storage, the internal phone storage still shows 848MB available space.
How can i get all my installed apps back without reinstalling the apps?
Thank you
Note: before i changed also the sim card but it worked normally, this is the first time happened can't read all the installed apps on my sd.
I had the same thing happen to me. All I did was mount the sdcard in ubuntu, grab all the apps, and adb install them all back with a batch script. It only took a little bit, but hey, it works. If a2sd didnt take for you, you might want to rewipe, reflash, reformat, repartition after youve gathered all of your apks.
look in the cyanogen thread...
install 3.4.1 and if you have a theme, reinstall the theme. maybe you will have to redo apps2sd from the recovery console (Power on + Home Button) too.
thanks, i'll install the new version

Fixing "Unknown reason 18" market error

So I was getting unknown reason 18 error when trying to install certain apps from the market.
I've googled and search the forum. The best answer I could get was to wipe and reinstall the ROM, which I did not want to do.
Then I checked the logs and figured out the problem was that all those apps that would fail were trying to install on SD card by default.
The solution: move all the apps back to phone, put your microSD into a card reader and delete .android_secure folder. That's it!
didn't work for me
Worked
That worked for me. For ever I could not update Sky map. When I could not install Angry Birds I went "searching".
Thank you for the fix.
I don't think it'll work for me either.
None of my apps are on my SD. I know this because I can't even do that. When I try to transfer an app to sd it the progress bar just hangs there (doesn't move it just shows the striped pattern)
It worked!
Hey ho, it worked!! Finally the nagging issue is resolved (for me)
I can't find that folder/file! :S
.android_secure is hidden, you need to enable showing hidden files on your file manager. I use ES File Manager and it has such feature.
...or, you can just make sure your app is installed on the phone, then unmount the SD before updating.

Holy crap! It worked for me. I didn't have anything installed on the SD card either.
when your market chache is moved to the SD then move it back to the internal memory and clear the market data...
Worked for me... Thanks a lot...
i've had this error for quite some time - i realized i need to move the app back to phone in order to update it and then move it back to SD card.
Will try this method!
Thanks for posting
thank god this!!!!! work i'm was getting piss off at is unknown 18 **** it was hunting me in my dreams THANKYOU
Please, I have the same problem but I haven't space in my phone to return the SD apps. Is there another way to solve this?
Simple FIX
Just take out the sd card, install whatever is giving you an error, then pop the sd card back in. No fuss no muss!
Nice SIMPLE solution!
Thank you. Didn't involve rooting the phone, installing adb, saying magic mantras etc. etc.
Thanks

Ok, so I figured out a solution that is hopefully "better" and "quicker" for all. Simply connect your phone to your computer (as USB Mass storage), browse to the folder '.android_secure' (make sure you can view hidden files/folders in windows) and delete the file 'smdl2tmp1.asec' (I just renamed it 'smdl2tmp1.asec.delete' just in case it didn't work).
Problem solved! Everything updates just fine now and I didn't have to move any apps back from the SD card to the phone.

Yea...just this guys.
zero need to delete, move, etc.
Just unmount the SD, instead of taking it out...

Newly rooted 1.2 - Angry bird won't install

I completed manual nooting and was restoring the apps from TI backup.
However, I wasn't able to restore Angry bird. I get "Unable to Install" error.
I could not install through the Amazon market either, it had same error.
All other apps are installing just fine all 3 flavors of angry birds won't install.
It isn't that crucial, but it would be good if I can get this working.
Thanks.
This might help
Potential fix for Angry Bird install after manual nooter
A lot of people are saying that you can't install angry birds with the SD card installed. This sounds like the problem that I had with my Droid X. To fix it I had to delete the file left from the prior install under .android secure on the SD card. I guess that Froyo sometimes has issues with this file getting corrupt on the micro SD and then it can't install correctly during updates and reinstalls. I think you lose all previous data but at least you have it working normally now with the SD card installed. I'll try it on my nook and post back. I would have put this in the manual nooter thread but I don't have enough posts to post there.
I formatted my sd card and it had no effect. I also tried several times with the card in and with it out and it still failed. What I ended up trying was using adb command line (adb install XXX/XXX.apk) and it worked perfectly. I now have Angry Birds 1.53 installed and working. I don't know why the app store can't install, but the command line method did work. Of course this will only work if you have adb setup on your computer correctly.
Note: I initially tried to do a copy and paste the apk to system/apps to install via astro file manager but the directory seems to be read only.
had the same issue - had to install it manually.. took my backed up copy and using adb
adb install "Angry Birds 1.5.2.apk"
not sure what the issue is... some people said it was the 4mb issue, but i was able to get some >4mb files installed no problem... hopefully one of the devs can figure out why.
Try to remove sd card, that was the only way I could install angry birds. I did pay for the one that B&N has. I have all installed now. Hope this helps.
The way I got them to install was to copy the apk file in the /data/app folder and then set permissions to rw-r--r-- then reboot
BN bug
To install angry birds, you need to get the apk on your nook and then install without an SD card in the slot. BN has acknowedged this is a problem in their FAQ. http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...estions/m-p/979622/message-uid/979622#U979622
"Q4: When I try to install “Angry Birds”, I get an error. Help?
This issue is being investigated by our engineering team.
WORKAROUND: Please remove any microSD cards from your NOOK Color and try again. You can reinsert the card after installation has completed. "
This is how I got it to install:
1. go to settings, device info, unmount SD card
2. remove SD card
3. download the apk from my dropbox account and
4. install
The catch is that market requires an SD card to download

Someone please help me? (CM6 App fails to install)

Right now, I am on CM6. I have tried CM7 but most games don't run well. On CM6, games run much faster, but sometimes apps don't install. For example, usually if an app is above 10mb in size, and you have some apps moved to the sd card, it fails to work. Also, I have installed a game, and I tried to move it to sd card, it failed so I uninstalled it, and whenever I try to re-install it, it says "Application not installed" Does anyone have any advice as to how I can fix this?
Thanks, and any help is appreciated.
Edit: Fixed, plugged into computer, deleted files in android.secure folder which had messed up sd card data probably and reflashed cm6 and installed. (Not sure if the reflash is necessary)

Installing CM7 on Kaiser

I tried installing Scoot's CM7 rom on my Kaiser (HardSPL updated, new radio, etc.), and no matter what I try, I can't get it to install. It "says" it installed it, but when trying to fix permissions, it says a lot of files don't exist. Past that, when it should be booting up, it just shows a black screen. I tried putting both sys/data on NAND, both as .img's on the SD, and combinations of both, but it still won't work. Occasionally, I get an insufficent space error from one of the components of the installer, but my SD is 8GB, and when I remove it, it hasn't used it all. If someone could give a dummy's guide to flash this ROM, it would be greatly appreciated.

Try and use other sd card.
I don't have another sd card...it has been functioning fine, and when I look at the newly created system.img or data.img, they aren't nearly the size i set them to be in ATools, and the card isnt nearly full.
What you can do is try not to use Atools. Create a folder named andboot in your sd card and put in the rom in it.Then put in KAISIMG.NBH in the sd card outside the andboot folder(that is if you want to use NAND)
