when i try to connect to a device so i can send it says error, see if file transfer is enabled. how do i see if it enabled? im trying to send a file to a blackberry 8310
I get that same thing all the time. The only phone I was able to connect to was a samsung t-339 (regular old flip phone from t-mobile) I was able to connect and transfer and even go through the phones directories but transfering was a bit glitchy since it didn't transfer to the bluetooth/received folder, it was just in the main level of the sd.
I couldn't connect to any other phones. Not even another rooted G1 running the same rom.
any help would be great!
Hi!
I need any ideas about how to approach problem from subj.
I got Diamond with screen physically destroyed, but phone booting up and can make/receive calls ok. All I need is get pim.vol out to restore all contacts from it. Biggest problem is that phone was set into StorageMode (Cardreader) by default, so it is not even asking when plugged in to PC.
Any ideas on how to make it into ActiveSync mode w/o hard reset and losing all contacts?
[edit]
More I think about it now, I probably can create 2577 (or whatever number works on Diamond??) folder on storage card and put autorun.exe (MortScript probably) into it which will enable ActiveSync. Can someone with Diamond handy find out which values in registry do that?
Thanks!
You could use MyMobiler to access it using PC, but it needs active sync :S
All the ideas I could have need to access the main memory.
Hi
I wrote a program which copies pim.vol to the root of the Internal Storage.
Simply extract the zip after connecting the Diamond (make sure it is unpacked with folders!) and disconnect the ppc. Wait a while, then connect again. You should be able to get pim.vol to your computer.
Its worked!
Thank you so much, kosherpig!
Its worked and I got all stuff restored! Awesome!
Extract data from device w/ dead screen?
I'm not really concerned about anything but the pictures and videos which were stored in device memory. (When it started acting flaky I immediately copied my SD card but I couldn't get it to mount properly before the screen went totally black).
So, the device is not mounting when I plug it in but it is sending/receiving phone calls.
Can I write a script that would allow me to "force" it to mount so I can see the device's internal memory?
kosherpig,
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! with the use of those 2 zip files, i was able to retrieve my pim.vol file from my broken diamond. you dont know how long and despondent i was over the thought of not being able to retrieve all my contacts...this def teaches me a lesson to backup my address book religiously. thank you again!
Could you not use the start key & d-pad to toggle to activesync for USB mode in settings & then using mymobiler you would have full control of your Diamond via connected PC !

Hello, I've got the similar problem as the orignal poster.
My phone is HTC Touch HD running WM6.1
The touch screen became unresponsive to touch (tried a bunch of stuff to fix it), but showing everything just fine.
So I settled with that fact that it's going to the trash bin and decided to figure a way of getting my contacts out.
The device is set to run in Storage Mode upon connection to PC, meaning it can't Active Sync.
I can't see any Pim.vol in several browsers and managers, from regultar win explorer to total commander. It shows Album.vol file tho.
I've copied the files provided and everything would be fine.. but the phone asked for confirmation if I want to allow running that programm. I would have pressed YES, but... I can't.
Is there any sane way to bypass that confirmation? Thanks in advance.
Hey kosherpig,
I copied the Zip files and extracted them in the root of storage card of my WM6.1 ASUS p750. disconnected the USB connection and connected again, No hopes for the PIM.VOL.
Did I missed something in this...I am in Serious Trouble as My 7 years ongoing contacts are on stack with this Dead screen phone..
Please Help..

Hi there!
I am a new member, recently bought P9 (L09) coming from Note 2.
I can't find a way of transfering files to PC without Hisuite.
I just came back from the holidays and took about 500 pics.
When I connect a phone via USB I can see only about 10 last pictures in DCIM folder on SD card.
I've searched the web high and low, but couldn't find out the conclusive answer.
Please help me!
Thanks
Probably the photos are inside the phone internal storage, not on the SD card.
The camera mode has an explicit option (you can check by swiping right) named "Priority save on SD card", maybe it changes or it changed by itself.
Anyway when you connect the USB you should see the SD card storage but also the "Internal storage" that contains another DCIM folder, which probably contains the other 490 photos.
Hi ScareIT,
thanks, but photos are on the SD card (size is 2Gb).
I can see them on the phone in Files app.
Obviously, Huawei wants me to use their Hisuite.
It's something to do maybe with correct driver? I know there are different file transfer formats(MTP,PTP). And I have even enabled USB debugging, but to no availability.
I haven't had any problems with Note 2 before.
How do you guys transfer files or pictures between PC and a phone?
I have the same problem, connecting with MTP protocol via HiSuite, creation of folders is extremely slow, and I found it impossible to move files from the phone (be it on internal storage or external SD) to the phone in a different folder.
I'd like to use USB mass storage option, but it's nowhere to be found in settings, only PTP, MTP and several other useless options... On top of that, i've lost a file (voice recording) trying to move it from one folder to another... should have saved it on PC first. But with mass storage i'm pretty sure i could recover it.
If anyone can help, would be really great.

There's a program on PlayStore called "wifi file transfer pro" It's the easiest way to transfer files between any mobile/computers, anything that has wireless connection. Give the free version a try first.

You can ignore hisuite by selecting "files"in the notification shade. It will be MTP like any other Android phone.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies!
I know its possible to transfer files with a third party app over wifi, but that's not what I am looking for.
And Marsou77: It's not working for me: when I choose Files in Notification menu- I can view Internal and SD card, but all I can see is only 24 pictures out of 500 in SD card.
And another thing I just tested: I've took a new picture and I can see it on SD card fine now. So I am not sure where all other pictures are?! Maybe some sort of corruption of SD card? But I had transfered all pictures with Hisuite fine. Anyone?
I'm having the same problem. I've already connected my P9 to my PC and transferred a whole load of images about a month or so ago, but now I'm about to run out of storage on my phone and I can only see about 10 images in my DCIM/Camera folder where I know I have about 1000. I'm also missing a whole load of files in my download folder including a big video file that I want to transfer to free up space.
A load of other folders have missing files on my PC but I can see them on my phone and I can double check their location in file details. It seems that I'm only able to view about 20% of the files that are on my device.
If you have password or fingerprint active, you have to keep the phone unlocked for the transfer to work. Just keep the screen on. I had the same problem and now it works.
Just to confirm: I have no passwords or fingerprint scanner set on...
Same here - only some files are visible. Unlocking the phone is not solving this issue.
Ok so this is odd: I've connected my phone to my work computer and I can now see 450 of my 1000+ photos that I've taken on my phone. I moved about 30 images from the phone, deleting them from the internal storage but when I check my phone the images are still there! What's going on? I feel that I'm missing something important here, but I see no other options on the phone regarding USB connection settings.
I don't know if it makes a difference (why would it?) but my home PC is running windows 10 whilst my work one is still windows 7.
Are there any drivers I should be updating to allow Windows to see files on the phone?
I tried searching the phones internal storage for ALL .jpg files and I can see on my phone that I have 1000+ photos that I've taken and around 100+ images that have been downloaded from various places but when I search for all .jpg files I'm only getting 700 results in total. Something strange is going on and I hope I'm just being an idiot here and that I don't have a problem with my phone.
Did you try what Marsou77 said, when pluging phone into pc, on the phones screen, select files, not pictures, you should then be able to browse the whole phone from PC

Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Tried keeping the screen on too as has been suggested but I'm still only seeing some of my files. Installed a different file manager on the P9 to double check where the phone says they are but they just don't appear on the PC.
Good news and bad news.
The good news is that I can now see my 1000+ photos and all the videos I've taken with the camera so I can now copy them off and free up more space on my phone. Very relieved that I can access all the files on my phone again.
The bad news is that I have no idea what has caused this sudden change in access. I'm using my work computer which is windows 7 and I haven't changed anything with the phone or done anything different today, just connected the phone and selected "files", as I have done each time. The only thing I can think of is that I deleted a few things from the phone yesterday whilst at home. I went through the installed file manager and decided to delete a few large-ish, downloaded videos that I decided that I didn't need to keep. Perhaps this increased the freespace on my device to a certain level in which allowed me to access all my files? I have no idea, and that's frustrating because this account can't really help anyone else that comes across this issue.
Since you asked, I install Flickr on my phone which uploads all images automatically at full resolution to its online server. Since Flickr gives 1 Tb free, it generally a no hassle solution. I have never connected my phone to my iMac so far. Plus the Hisuite has no OsX option.
Today just happened a strange thing: I connected my phone to download few photos (stored in the SD) and I found them in their place ("DCIM" folder), but I also found a lot of other photos were missing (and I immediately thought about this thread): I still found them inside the SD but inside the "Pictures" folder, not inside "DCIM" one.
I don't remember I actived any option, but that's it.
Just hope it can help some people in my situation.
Hi all!
I think I know the answer.
Basically its to do with a Memory storage settings>Default Location>Internal/ SD Card Storage and emulated storage.
Basically what's happened I was still playing with a settings and customizing my phone and set Default Location to Internal and then SD Card storage. And location of pictures became kinda scattered. I am still learning/reading how Android storage works for SD cards and also emulated storage. Now I set default location to internal storage, phone gave some warning about encryption and it restarted and now I can open SD card on my PC and all the pictures are there! Happy days
Hopefully that will help some people. Cheers
Using USB-A as well as the USB-C the phone is connected. It reads the phone, but only pictures, videos, and audio files can be seen on File Explorer, not docx, pdfs, apks, zips, or exe files, etc.. Apparently the PC/Laptop only read the phone as a Multi-Media Device.
Can only transfer Media files from Phone to PC. Can't transfer any files from PC to Phone.
No issues with other phones: s9, s10, or s20. Even tried other brand new laptops running recent Windows-10, same issue.
I have uninstalled and re-install the Samsung USB Drivers. Windows 10 automatically updateed the drivers just for it to remove the "caution" symbol in the Device Manager as a multi-media device.
Is it a Samsung issue? Or is it a Windows issue?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
After updating optional Samsung updated drivers on Windows 10. That did allow me to bring files over to the laptop. But I am not able to carry over files to the phone.

Thanks for the reply. It seems to do the same thing even when I use the cable that came with the phone. Could be a Windows 10 issue?
This is a 4-year-old laptop that's been acting rather strange since the Windows 10 updates the past few months. It's about time for a factory reset anyhow. Hopefully it will work after the reset.

That didn't work either. I even did a factory reset on my laptop and still the same. I will factory reset the phone and maybe that will fix the issue. (Is there a possible setting in the phone that can cause this?)
FYI, pictures on my phone in the file explorer can be seen, but files like APKs do not show up as if they are not there according to the laptop file explorer, even when I try to view hidden files they don't show up.
Maybe this helps https://www.diskpart.com/articles/s...move to further,Disk Management and try again.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately none of these worked.
Even on a friend's brand new windows 10 laptop of a different brand, still have same issues.
Remember, my phone is connected. But, certain files like APKs are not even shown. I can transfer the files that can be seen to the Laptop. But I can't send any files from PC to phone whatsoever. It will show the transfer window, but after about a minute, the window will close with an error beep/alert and the transfer will stop.
Seems like only pictures, videos, & music will show on the file explorer, not apks, zips, or software type files. No issue with older phones on s20, s10, etc..

It seems that PTP option is set by default, maybe you can check in the dialogue under developer options that by default is set to transfer files.
Also you should disable all the related security actions over USB under security and developer menues..
In the meantime till you can solve it you can transfer some files through adb push command, it´s a little tedious but can save you by now. Also is the app Link.
It´s really strange some time ago without trying exactly everything though I couldn´t communicate my A70 with PC but then for other reasons I did a clean installation of Windows (not using preserve files and apps) for repartitioning purposes and surprisingly it started to work just fine.

Thanks for the advice. None of the above helped. Maybe just have to wait until the next Windows 10 or Samsung Software update, and go from there. *Shrugs*
Update: It seems to only connect as a Multi-Media Device. I'm guessing that is why it only shows Images/Vids/Music. Nothing else appears on File Explorer, not even docx or pdfs. I can only send the media files to the PC but no files can be moved into the phone.
any help would be gladly appreciated!
Thanks to all those who tried to help. After doing a factory reset on the phone, as well as a the Windows Samsung 2.17 USB drive update. Everything works fine now.
