looking for a backlight app - G1 Apps and Games

Hey guys I just recently started using the Behold 2. The max length for the backlight timer is 3 mins. I need to be able to set it longer or turn it off completly. I remember seeing an app that let you turn off the backlight for certain apps but I can remember what its called. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Backlight problem

I'm having this problem with backlight. No matter what I do, the screen automatically dim after 10-12 seconds. I've turned off the all "Turn off screen after so many minutes" (on battery or on AC). I've changed the backlight settings and it still revert.
I've even watch the backlight setting moved back to minimum from max after that 10-12 seconds.
I can't figured out what is overriding the setting. I don't have much installed:
WM 6.1 with
HTC Home
HHC
BatteryStatus
TouchPal
Wizard_reTOUCHed_Dialer2
Any thoughts?
Settings->System->Backlight & Settings->System->Power
To control BACKLIGHT settings, i.e. Backlight Brightness, Backlight timeout, etc, go to:
Settings->System->Backlight
...and check OFF the checkbox in the "Battery power" tab...or leave it checked ON and adjust the timeout
To control SCREEN settings, i.e. when does the screen turn OFF COMPLETELY, etc, go to:
Settings->System->Power
...and check OFF or adjust the timeout for the timeout that takes the device into standby mode
note that the above two settings applets are linked to each other from within via the Menu softkey
if you have already done BOTH of the above, i've no idea why your backlight dims so quickly
You have batterystatus installed and if you go to the preferences in it you have backlight as an option adjust your settings in there.

Sweet! That was it. Thanks for the tip.
I don't have batterystatus installed. I do have pockettoolman but it uses regular power and backlight settings.
My issue is even without any reset, the backlight setting automatically resets to default 10s. I change it to 2min, but at some point it will reset itself to 10s. This is without reset or turning phone off. I don't know y it does this but its very annoying!
Any ideas? Thanks.
I am having the same problem as well here... the backlight timeout will automatically reset to 10sec everytime you switch on the phone (not soft/hard reset, just normal power on). I am using ATT Tilt with the offical WM6.1 ROM.
Tried to change the setting directly in Registry using Resco, still the same problem. The value got reset to 10 on the next power on.
Wondering if anyone got a solution to this?
(maybe it's a problem for ATT tilt only....some users posted the same problem in the official ATT forum
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/...thread.id=99891&view=by_date_ascending&page=8 )
I'm having similar problem with back light and also it is very annoying when screen goes black and kills wifi and gps. is there way to keep wifi and gps on when backlight goes off? thanks.

I have to put this here

Well here some settings to try:
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight
There are several settings here with the word "Timeout" in them:
Assuming External Power
===================
ACTimeout
ACTimeoutTemp
ACTimeoutTempUnchecked
Assuming In Battery
=================
BatteryTimeout
BatteryTimeoutTemp
BatteryTimeoutUnchecked
Make them all 300 for 5 minutes
Now one interesting one...
AutoSensor try changing 1 to 0
Test run....
==================
Power on/off using switch etc..
Performed soft-reset using stylus...
Display did not timeout after 10 seconds... But is did appear to power off after 5 minutes...
To soon to say how long this will last, but it definately appears to have made a difference and now seems to last longer. Something like 2 or minutes. Go figure
I was pretty happy with the new AT&T 6.1 Rom until this problem came up. The ROM is fast, the battery life with the 1.65xxx14 radio is good.
After a couple of days trying to fix it based on some solutions I found on the internet, I have given up.
No matter what I did, it always came back even with just having exchange push mail and total commander installed only.
Reverted back to WM 6.0 just because of this problem that was very annoying...
Now I am having a problem flashing a different hard spl instead of the 3.56 on my phone for WM 6.0.
Anyway, so, has the problem come back yet?
Thx
Oz
Still no solution to this problem? I'm a little afraid to try registry hack but am getting desperate.
I also now notice volume resetting issues...volume will change on its own accord to different settings...
The registry tweak fixed problem.
Only changed the first batterytimeout to 96 (2 min).
It now timeouts after 2min and survives a soft reset.
Thank you!

Back light issues Mobile 6.1
I have the TILT with 6.1 installed.... My backlight with default to 10 seconds also.. alog with that when I Turn the phone ff using the power button, if I sit there and watch it the backlight will come on with a black screen. Just backlight for no ryme or reason... I also have the issue of the screen brightness going full bright on me. All of these issues have really taken a toll on my battery life. Any thoughts from anyone...
I found that for some reason (probably Battery Status?) my backlight would always revert to 7-seconds when on battery. Every time I changed it via the control panel applet I could then go and see the value in the registry getting changed to 7. If I manually changed the value in the registry it would always revert to 7 after a short while.
I found that removing the 'BatteryTimeout' entry from the registry (HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight) and not touching the Backlight control panel applet (or changing Battery Status) prevents it being automatically updated to 7-seconds and applies the default of 30-seconds.
I am not sure if this will work for you as there seem to be variable results, however for me this works perfectly. I have all my defaults set in my custom ROM so I never need to change Battery Status or open the Backlight applet and the default 30-seconds for the backlight is set.

Just to confirm I have just extracted the 'backlight.dll' file from the update posted on HTC's website and cooked it into a ROM, replacing the original 'backlight.dll' and it does indeed solve the problem.
I have played around with the backlight control panel applet and opened and closed Battery Status and the delay remains at what is configured - 30-seconds in my case.

Scratch what I said in my previous post. With this updated .dll file the behaviour of the backlight is worse. I have done some testing today with the updated 'backlight.dll' file cooked into a ROM and it's painful. No matter what I try the registry values 'ACTimeout', 'BatterTimeout' & 'timeoutsaved' are ALWAYS reverted to a value of 8 once the keylock has been applied. In my case either by Battery Status (keylock on resume) or pressing the today screen icon. This results in the backlight dimming after 8-seconds when on either battery or AC, the only way to resolve is to either go to the backlight control panel applet or edit the registry directly. Hit the keylock though and your back at square one
I have now re-cooked my ROM and replaced the 'backlight.dll' for the previous one and the behaviour returns to normal. So my advice is don't install this patch or cook it into your custom ROM.

Thanks so much for this post. I have been trying for days to get my back light to stay on and nothing worked. As it turned out I was only doing the setting in the backlight tab, not the in the power tab.
Finally!
Click Here for the .cab that fixed my unit. I got it off the ATT forum.
NOTE to all... Even this fix did not solve my problem until I checked the boxes to time the backlight. I like the backlight feature on all the time. If I don't want to see the screen, I turn it off.

Can't stop my N1 from dimming the screen after ~20 seconds when plugged in

Hi all,
I've had a search around but couldn't find this particular issue discussed.
I have a N1 running CM7. When the phone is plugged in (either on my desk, or in the car) the screen will auto dim to a very low level after approx. 20 seconds after last touch.
This happens if the brightness is set to auto or a manual level. I've gone through all the settings I can find but couldn't find anything regarding this. I have got developer > stay awake enabled, which I guess stops the screen from actually sleeping, but it still goes dim.
The CM7 auto dim settings are disabled.
Any advice folks? I want the screen to not auto-dim after 20 seconds. Out of interest, the 'Car Widget Pro' widget seems to be able to force the brightness if you choose something other than 'auto' in the widget settings. So perhaps I am missing something somewhere else?
It's a real PITA when trying to navigate in the car with google maps as whenever I touch the screen to get the brightness back it disables gps tracking and I have to re-hit the icon, which is distracting whilst driving..
Here's hoping..
Hey, I'm only posting because I had a very similar issue. What I did was go into display settings (while connected via USB) and changed the timeout to one minute (or whatever you want). For me, when I went to change the timeout, no item was selected by default. This happened to me after I installed WidgetLocker for some reason. I doubt I will help but I had a very similar issue...

[Q] Wake up for power button stopped working - Nameless ROM v7.2 Build 5 - 806Mhz

Hi All,
I've just rooted my phone (my first root) and installed Nameless ROM v7.2 Build 5 with the 806Mhz image. Right after that everything seemed to be fine. But later on the wake up function for pressing the power button stopped working.
The symptoms: Phone goes to sleep mode for pressing the power button (screen goes blank), but when I press the power button again nothing happens, the screen remains blank. If I press it twice in fast succession, the lock screen appears for a fraction of a second then again it goes blank. The only way I can get to the lock screen is if I start charging it, then I remove the USB cable, and press the power button. (but it only works right after that) Pressing the power button also works the very first time after automatic timeout.
I'd appreciate any ideas on how this could be fixed as besides that Nameless and the OC image seems to be rather awsome.
Hi, Well there could be many reasons why your phone won't wake, to rule out one does the power button defiantly work?
If it does it could be that your cpu goes too low in clock speed to sustain waking the phone, I think you should try to get an app called setcpu which is found on xda for free and higher the lowest clock speed like so:
806mhz-806mhz
806mhz-4xxmhz
806mhz-xxmhz
then 806mhz and the lowest one
Doing this will let you figure out if it is infct the cpu causing this, post back with your results.
Good luck.

I've tried setcpu with the four settings listed above and the scaling parameter set to default (ondemand). The problem persists.
To answer your question: the power button definitely works, I can lock the screen with it, initiate shutdown/reboot, it only doesn't function properly when I try to wake up the phone with it. I've also noticed one thing: the 'charging via USB'-'unplug'-'press power' unlock method only works if I don't wait too much after unplugging.
I've tried insalling a different locker (Holo locker) and I wasn't even able to unlock the phone anymore.
Can the htc locker itself be corrupted? Can it be somehow reinstalled?
FYI: I have Autokiller installed but it's currently set to system defaults. Also my battery isn't calibrated yet (I'm not sure if that's relevant). And I have Llama installed and running in the background.
Can it be related to the System off and lock app? It is installed but it doesn't have root access.
Thanks in advance for your help!
This might not be related , but could you tell me what display brightness level you are currently using? If you are not using auto brightness try using that option and retry locking and unlocking the device.
Might be also due to the screenoff app.Try uninstalling it.

Thanks for that nikhil, you've just saved my phone . The issue seems to be solved now. I've also tried with all the brightness settings you can set up with the Power widget - all of them works fine. But if I tweak brightness in the Notification bar - Quick settings, the problem appears again. I guess I'll avoid that slider in the future.
Thanks again!

I had a similar problem when i was on stock rom and after a lot of searching found out that it was related to the brightness level we set (Dont know why this problem arises though)
So...Happy to help
The problem is linked to the brightness level
As pointed out by a member 2, this issue is related to the brightness level we set on this phone. I used to have the same problem when i changed the brightness level to the minimum but eversince i increased the brightness just a fraction the problem seems to have dissappeared.
I still dont why it happens
Just a question...
Did anyone having this problem commit a "dirty" flash or any other ROM flashing that didn't involve a full wipe? This may explain this conundrum.
