How do you lock the screen during a call?
Is there a setting where the screen will automatically lock while I am on the phone?

search the market for "procsimity sensor" that does it automatically. there are a few bugs that need to be worked out with it becuase it uses the light sensor it doesnt work real well in the dark but from what I have seem other than that its a pretty good app.

i personally dont use it but thought he might want it
The lock replacement app, LockBot Pro, as a setting to lock the screen during a call. Not sure about the free version but it's worth a dollar or two.

The screen does automatically lock. The timeout is adjustable, but I don't think there's anything in the Settings menu for it.
I use a program called Quick Settings that puts a shortcut on my home screen to a list of modes - each mode can include custom screen timeout values, ringer volumes, etc. One of them is in-call screen timeout.
OK now, I have tried them all now:
Quick Settings
Call Light
Call Daddy
Lockbot
Proximity Sensor
Screebl
Power Manager
and I still can't figure out how to time out the screen duing a call. It's driving me nuts because I hang up on people all the time. Why can't I get any of the above to work on fresh 1.1 + Gumbo kernel?
For all the people out there on a Sprint Hero, what app are you using and what are your settings in Settings> Sound & display> Disable auto backlight and your screen timeout settings.
TIA.
I'm in the same boot and wish I could find an answer. Sprint really screwed up not putting a proximity sensor on the phone.
I have tried "Proximity Sensor" app but it's buggy and I don't like using auto brightness. Just tried "Quick Settings" but can not find any adjustment for time out during call? only the general screen time out.
Does anyone know where this setting is? Could it be only for 1.6 and up?

In Power Manager, it's under "Stay Awake" and it's called "During Call."

jonnythan,
I tried that and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I have diabled auto backlight and my screen timeout is set to 30 sec. What are your settings? Also with Power Manager how long does it take to time out?

I have different settings for different situations. I have it set to 10 seconds while on battery and 1 minute while on AC power. Works fine for me.

Ever since I switched to a custom kernel, lock during a call has been temperamental. I'm using Gumbo's rom/kernel. For some reason it started working again today. Last night I did switch back to the stock mem kill settings, but I doubt this had anything to with fixing it. Sorry this post is of no help, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Check out the Screen Suite app...
The Screen Suite app is a collection of screen utilities. Features a lock screen that can be configured to lock during a call and has a panel to lock your screen on demand.
proximity sensor works pretty well for me and i dont have auto back light enabled...
im running damage 2.0.7.2
screen suite doesn't disable the notification bar, my ear pulls it down sometimes. i have things in there that launch.
This thread has the "end all" solution which you can just flash to your phone. It removes the "End Call" button from the screen when you're on a call so that you can't do any facial hang ups.

In short, my power button is jacked up and at moment due to car troubles I have zero monies to even attempt to call HTC and see if they can do anything about it.
So I would like to know, is there an app that will allow other hardware buttons to power off the screen, or at least make a widget or something on the homescreen to power the phone off?
At the moment I am keyguard disabler to bypass using the power button to cut on the screen, but can't really do anything to cut the screen off.
I will work some on seeing if I can modify the keylayouts, but if anyone else knows anything, any help would be greatly appreciated.
only problem i see with the widget use is that once the screen is off, how would you turn it back on... remapping the hardware buttons would work, but then you wouldnt need a widget...
in the meantime just set the timeout on the screen to something small... just an idea i guess...

I use keyguard disabler which then I can use the trackball to cut it on and yeah, when I'm at work, I just cut it to 15 seconds so it doesn't stay on forever whenever I need to check the time.

may help.
I do agree with the shorting the awake time. I did this to change mine to 5 seconds. I installed lock 2.0 and then changed the settings to 5 seconds, rebooted and then uninstall lock 2.0. If for some reason I need the screen on longer to read web or email I use stay awake app. I have stay awake in the status bar. I haven't had good luck with the apps that make the screen stay awake like keyscreen and screeble.
When I soft-reset my TD2, leave it be for a while so that backlight dims and then press a HW button or tap the display, backlight comes up back again. However, if the device enters standby the "resume backlight on user activity" function stops working properly for some reason. (I am not sure for how long TD2 has to be left alone - maybe 30 minutes, 1 hour?) Specifically, if the backlight dims and I go to Settings > System > Power > Advanced tab and uncheck "Dim screen after X s", the screen will light up, but if I check this checkbox again, the screen will dim even though I just interacted with the phone and the screen should therefore remain lit up. The only other way to get a fully lit screen (at least until it dims again due to user inactivity) is to lock the phone and unlock it back.
I should also add that this happens with the official stock WM6.5 ROM.
Is there anything in phone settings I should enable or disable, or is there any registry key I should set to some specific value for this feature to work properly again?
Thanks for any help.

I think, you could try to use Lumos that exist in this Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2955401&postcount=1
Hakim,
thanks for the suggestion, however, in the meantime I learned that the issue is caused by the WM auto-lock feature (it is a bug that nobody cared to fix :-/ ). I was not able to find any useful work-around so I decided to install an application called LockDevice (it should be here somewhere on XDA Devs) which works very well and seems to be relatively light-weight.
Anyway, thanks again for your response.

Hello! I have strange problems with backlight
1) back light is turned off -- i can't see anything on the screen with the day light. Changing the brightness in Settings/Display don't help.
2) but, after power off+power on, backlight is OK for 10 seconds, and turns off right after that.
I find the guy with the same problem, but on droid 2 -- youtube.com/watch?v=RxHqN_lycG8
Btw, in "AP Fastboot" mode ("M" key+PowerOn), backlight is don't turn of.
I try some ROMs, they all don't work for me. Only "kexec CM10" ROM have one difference: if I turn the phone off and on, the backlight is turning on for the 1/2 of second, I can see the lock screen, and after that it is turned off...
What can it be? How can I fix it? Any ideas will be very appreciated! I very like my Droid3,and want it back

You'll have to try to turn the brightness up manually. It may be a broken light sensor. If you get in the right light you might be able to see the background and be able to turn it up.

In the dark room, I can see everything on the screen. Unfortunately, brightness in Settings/display does not affect the backlight on my device.
I set the brightness to the maximum, but it still too dark
Is it possible that the problem is in flexible cable?
This has always been confusing and I am looking for clarification on the Lock Screen/ Screen dimming, etc.
So I went into the display settings and set it not to turn off for 1 minute. Then I checked the power saving settings just to be sure the screen would not go dim or lock after 5 seconds. That did not work. Then I checked the security settings to see if something was over ridding every other time out setting and I am lost. Either these settings have never really worked since the original note and android/ google is lazy or I am not doing something right.
Dose anyone have a step by step walk through of all the settings that would affect when the screen dimms and when it locks? (Sometimes I am running music through blue tooth and I don't want to the screen to dim for specific applications also. There has to be a setting somewhere because Google Maps does not allow the screen to dim or lock when in nav mode.

I really wish someone would have answered your question. Mainly since I have the same freaking problem.
When the phone app is running, I am constantly getting dimmed, seconds only to do something.
Tonight I was using an app that monitors BBQ temperatures. Always dims to fast. Set the screen timeout for 10 minutes. Still dimmed after 30 seconds or so.
How does this work? I'm not sure the screen timeout setting does anything.
The screen diming feature is part of the auto brightness function and works by using the ambiant light sensor to adjust the brightness of the display. According to the amount of light detected in front of the display.
Screen locking happens when you haven't used your device for a specific amount of time.

It dims before it locks. That's what I was referring to. I think the OP was as well.
I set the display for 10 minute timeout. It dims and locks the screen in less than a minute. I can't figure out how to stop it.
Is that a clearer question?
Well my screen dims for some seconds before going out, but, always as per the time I set , for instance, if I set to go out after 5 mins of inactivity, it dims after 4 mins 55 seconds, then goes out, I dont use autobrightness, and I use entertainment mode
It was secure lock time setting.
It was disregarding the screen timeout.
