Hi ,
I have Donut 1.6 and Im trying to connect to my corporate network which uses WPA2 (AES) and requires Verisign vertificates, but the android is not detecting the settings properly and even when i manually configure it, its showing the certs as empty.
Bottom line, iPhone connects to the network in a flash. G1 never did. Any idea if its possible to do this with Donut or not yet ?
I dont know why Google is not trying to make corporate users happy ?
Any help or advice is appreciated !

Any advice on how to do this from within the phone itself ? (Mine is rooted and running AOSP 1.6)
For some stupid reason Android drivers dont install properly for me. I have tried tons of articles and fixes nothing worked. So I cant adb.
Also any idea where I could find the verisign.pfx ? where is it usually located ?
Thanks alot for any help.
Your company should be providing the certificates. You can try running cyanogen mod which has enhanced credentials storage. Maybe it will work on there. Also, i gave the instructions to push that file on the phone in the other thread.
Hi, well those certificates are usually sent automatically once a device is connected to the network. I dont place those certificates manually.
Also when using an iPhone it usually asks for username and password. In the case of Android its only asking for password. Which wont get me anywhere. I think android is still not ready to connect to certain corporate networks..... :S
I tried the push instructions throught another computer but it didnt find the certificates.
Thanks anyways for your help mate.....appreciate it !
No problem. However, when its asking you for a password, is it for Credentials Storage?
You need to enter a strong password there as thats where all the settings for connecting to the network will be.
it asks for the credentials password first then the wireless pass. but never a username ! :s
hm... thats weird
did you try using the Wifi helper app on the market? the free version may be able to help you out
ok.....the good news is Wifi helper finally managed to connect me to the network
The bad news is my network uses a proxy server.......so setting the android to use the proxy turns out to be another problem
Any advice on this is VERY much appreciated !.
Thanks again

I took my G1 to school today and tried to connect to the WiFi there. It is an open network, but it requires you to login using your school account via a website. Usually, when I connect with my laptop and open my browser, I get automatically redirected to the login page.
With my G1, the browser can't load a single page. It says connected to the network, but I have no actual internet access, and can't get to that login page.
Any idea how I can get around this?
Thanks
I have the same issue at my work. I have a captive portal that does not seem to redirect properly on the G1. Other phones seem to like it just fine. My work around is to add my mac to the auth bypass, but this only works because I am the actual admin for the wireless network.
try finding the address your laptop connects to and bookmarking it on the G1 and see if it lets you pull it up that way.
As I am pretty certain entering the redirect URL won't work (though I am trying it tonight) is there ANYTHING else anyone can think of changing or looking at? I had the same issue on my old Nokia N80, but only recently.
As predicted, the URL method did not work. Tried many variations and still no luck. Any further thought on this, or if the G1 will ever support Enterprise authentication?

I have the same issue in our Enterprise captive portal using different Android moldes ( Samsung Galaxy S 2 and mini ), can not get the login page, but works fine with an iPhone.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
I just recently rooted my t-mobile Dream (G1) to the latest cyanogen rom and have unlocked it (because i live in canada), I have everything working except every time I try to setup my google account it says "You don't have a network connection" I don't have a data plan, so I need it to use wifi; I had no problem activating it over wifi when I had the original t-mobile rom on.
I have searched online for hours but have found nothing that works.
Please help. thanks!
Hmm really u searched for HOURS !!!! ????
Neway, i search for a minute and found this
http://androidforums.com/support/6564-activate-stock-g1-over-wifi.html
I'd assume same should work for htc dream (Rogers). If it doesnt u can always put ur apn in and use data for like 5 seconds to activate
You posted in the Developers forum -- the Q&A forum is where support-esque queries go. A mod will likely move this thread shortly.
First, there is a section called Q&A that its for QUESTIONS and ANSWERS, and you posted a QUESTION, looking for an ANSWER...post it on the correct section, and wait for someone to reply...
ive noticed on the latest roms that i cant activate google accounts over wifi. i have to turn off my wifi and use 3g. but other than the initial setup everything works over wifi. this happens on the latest stable cyanogen, and also the eclair rom from his source code.

Weird, i can, in fact, i ALWAYS do it over Wifi, i dont have a data plan, so i do it on my home or at college...
i can use the phone and wifi no problem (accessing the web using youtube, using exchange email etc) ... the only problem is that it doesn't seem to be wanting to use the wifi to login to my account. I attached the adb logcat but its pretty long and confusing.
K from ur log it says Checkin disabled because background data is turned off
try turning tht on n c wht happens
ok, slight problem ... it seems to enable that function its under settings>data sync. except when i click that it quickly flashes the "background data" checkbox and other options but then instantly switches to the google login window. is there a adb command or something i can use to enable it?
Thanks!
nvm got it working by using cyanogen's widget.
Thanks for all your help!
Same prob
I was having the same problem, but my background data sync was turned on. I was only able to set up my google accounts by using 3g

Hello! new to N1 forum, could any1 tell me if its even possible to connect via wifi to an ad hoc network. Im using CyanogenMod-5 rom which finds network but fails to connect. any help wld be great. sorry if this is the wrong place for my question.
regards bevan
Yes, you'll have to edit the (tiwlan.ini0) and (wpa_supplicant.conf). When I get to night...i'll try to post what you need to edit.
I just got my N1 today and will playing with it ...so it might be around 10-11 CST to night when I post back with the info.
Here a quick type up
going to system/etc/wifi and edit tiwlan.ini...do a seach for WiFiAdhoc and it should take to
WiFiAdhoc = 0 and change the 0 to 1...right ather WiFiAdhoc put
dot11DesiredSSID = CARPC what ever you want...as you can see I use (carpc) so I can connect to my carpc.
dot11DesiredBSSType = 0 this will stay 0 so it all should look like this
WiFiAdhoc = 1
dot11DesiredSSID = CARPC
dot11DesiredBSSType = 0
Now for wpa_supplicant.conf add this to very bottom
ssid="CARPC"
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
}
If you still need help just post back in here....
thanks

ur welcome!
You can try these...just change my setting to your and see if it works.
I try to insert a rar file. i'll try another way.
WEP works fine without making any changes. So if its just a quick temporary solution use that.
Thats what I used when in Japan for net on the N1, as the appartment only provided a LAN cable & I only had a netbook with me.
Hi, I changed my settings in wifi with yours using win rar (maybe that's not how to do it?) but didn't work sadly. when trying to flash told me file was bad. should I mod this file using some other programe? not sure. am a noob but willing to learn how this is done thanks again!

In order to obtain an IP address automatically. You need to be running a DHCP server which I doubt you are.
To get around this set a static IP address on the phone.

My phone can obtain network address ONLY if my laptop is connected to internet. (no problem).
There's no tiwlan.ini file in nexus one & there's no need to edit it. just have to edit wpa_supplicant.conf.
cheers

have kind of given up on the ad hoc thing for now but thanks for advice guys. Im on 3g mobile broadband and recently got a 3g router which fixed my problem. when I leave the house and require internet I just use 3g sim card works fine so no need for ad hoc at the moment.
AdHoc - unsuccesfully
Hello all.
I have the same problem with adhocing my N1 and wireless adapter D-Link DWA-150.
I used to check all the "solutions" of this problem (wpa_supplicant. conf, rooting, new SSID...) but it seems not usefull for me.((
To soloxp - there is not any tiwlan.ini in N1. At least in CyanogenMod 5.0.6.N1.
What can I do more to connect my wireless adapters?..
Has anyone figured this out? I am running CyanogenMod 5.0.7.1 and I do have the wpa_supplicant.conf file but I'm not sure what to put in it as far as editing it. I use WMWiFiRouter on a Windows Mobile phone because that phone is 3G and my Nexus One only gets EDGE. My iPhone and computers can connect up to my WM phone just fine I just can't get my N1 to connect to it.
So this is indeed the way for my question and possibly the solution..
I have been asking abt this,
I got N1, CM7 latest...
linksys compact g wireless USB adapter
after creating adhoc connection I connect my phone and it stuck at "obtaining IP address"
Now please tell me how can a place or make a change in N1 system files?
please help me with links and yeah Im a nooobbb
Bump up the post.....
So last semeester my nexus had no problem connecting to my schools WPA network. But now all the sudden i cant connect. My laptop connects just the same as it always did (so i dont think its an issue with the network) has anyone had an troubles with WPA2 Enterprise recently? I have been flashing a few roms lately, but it didn't work on CM6 or Enothmers.
Ok so after doing some reasearch it appears that this is something that the Froyo update broke. This is very aggrivating not being able to connect. My schools network is 802.1x EAP and I cant connect to it after the Froyo update. This is BS. Anyone have this and solve it?
I've *never* gotten on my work Wifi..
Hidden SSID
802.1x
EAP=TTLS
auth=PAP
It just never sees the network as the above which I've set... When it does see the network, it thinks it's WEP.
yeah, im not sure what the heck happened in the Froyo update but no matter what settings i put it too. I know my password and user is correct because I am using the same login on my laptop (and yes we can login multiple times)
Ok so there is an Issue on googles website devoted to this topic here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386 for anyone having this issue (or would like to add a comment anyway to support people who are) please post here

BTW in my case I wasn't clear; I've never gotten it to work on Eclair or Froyo. Same exact behavior. So are you saying this worked for you before, but not now? Odd... Must be slightly different configuration than mine, or that bug post..
And yes, that post is the one.. Now that I've finally rooted my phone, maybe I'll try tweaking some files per that bug...
supposidly CM6 RC3 has a fix for this, but I havent gotten around to checking yet, if you do find a non rom dependent fix please let me know (i dont use CM).

Well, the bug you logged has wpa_supplicant configuration which people say should work, it (AFAIK) is not ROM dependent, but does require root of course.
I might try this today and see what happens. Unfortunately i'll still be stuck here at work as all external connections require a (non-transparent) proxy to work, and Android doesn't handle that well either, but there are some things I'd like to be able to do internally if I needed to, such as IM or hitting an internal web page.
Have the original G1 Google Phone [HTC firmware ver. 1.6] Had to reset the phone to get the last Google Talk account off. I now find that the WiFi configuration panel that existed is no more. What replaced it is a panel that has more parameters that I can comprehend. I am looking for a Google desktop app that would allow me to install google apps to the phone via USB cable. At this point, I see no other way to make use of the device.
I've taken the cell contract off of the phone for now and only want to use it for WiFi access. Windows internet connection sharing has yet to work. Guidance sought
even if your phone isnt rooted and you dont have a data plan, you can still use this phone via wifi for a portable internet/mp3/etc device.
you need to be signed into at least one google account to operate the phone (unles it is rooted and has custom rom) once in you can use the phone not as a phone but a portable mini computer or whatever so long as you are in a wifi hotspot

You can install apk files by copying them onto the sd and install them through some file explorer on the phone
And what don't you understand in the wi-fi panel?
Check wifi, go into wifi settings, click on the name of your wifi network, and type in the password if you have one
are you unable to login/register? If I remember correctly you need data plan to register...but there is a bypass to that, is that what ur problem is?
WiFi for the G1
Greetings:
Much thanks for your reply. Please know the following:
- Phone had a contract
- Wifi continued to work when contract was cancelled
- Because of slow internet navigation it was suggested [from a forum] that I reset the phone. After the reset the Wifi configuration panel was no longer. What replaced it was a series of input windows that requested information far beyond network name, SSID, etc.
- The SIM card that had been in the phone no longer is recognized.
Still hoping for guidance if it is at all possible to configure this device. Additionally, I would like to cultivate some mobile developer skills and would also like to use this device for educating myself. Much thanks for your support as I await your reply.

No ADB or somethig needed, just 4 touches my friend, If it's possible, go to the Begin-screen where the android is, touch the four corners of the screen on the upper-left, upper-right, down-right, above the black bar where all the buttons are, and down-left. If I am right, it would skip the whole sign-in screen and just go on the home-sceen. IF it works, just press that little thanks button up at my nickname, okay?????
