I wanted to know do all G1 hero roms have to reload the home screen when ever you open the keyboard?
Thanks in advance!
Yes, i think its do to the fact that the actual phone doesn't do the slant mode thing.
Reason #37 why Hero should die...

"slant mode thing" meaning rorating to landscape?
Yeah I think it's all of them. I think drizzy said that one of his ROMs would have removed, but you know what he's like...
Lol , yeah what Adrian said xD!
oh that sucks hero roms are hot, but having to reload just to open keyboard is a huge no
How about closing keyboard b4 going home ?
example : Im always using Hello AIM i use the keyboard to type w.e close it then i go home. I never get load that way.
Just don't open the keyboard on the home screen, not that big a deal...
^^^lol ill try that gonna take some time to adjust

Easier said than done for me. I used Hero for a few months, and used to use the terminal quite a lot. I just couldn't get in to the habbit of closing the keybaord first
You will only have a problem if you open the keyboard while on 1 of the 7 homescreens not when opening in browser, messages etc....

After having a Touch a few months back, i thought the Diamond would be a breeze. NO such luck in my experience.
For example. On the main home screen. How do you edit that so it's just the clock or, to add more to the list that currently shows calendar and call history? I can't find any way to do this so if you can enlighten me, i'd really appreciate it.
What about when texting? Is there any way to make the keypad a different size? Personally i can't find a way to edit that. It's annoying that after adding your contacts name, you seemingly have 90% of the screen filled with the entry system and you have to mess about to get to the message section of the screen. Guessing i've missed something somewhere!
Zooming in on a photo... how is that done? Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
This thread could become a handy hints and tips chart for beginners if all feedback is good so if you have a question or some simple advice for settings and the way to go around things, chuck a note in and someone will be very happy to see the reply
1) Well if u flick ur finger in an upward motion on the home screen u'll notice the clock becoming smaller and will list all the list all ur appointments from ur calendar...
2) If u are not satisfied in the HTC Keyboard, u will need to look into other keyboards my fav personally is Touchpal from Cootek and there is even resco keyboard which is pretty gud.
3) You can only zoom in a picture when u r in the HTC Album, in order to zoom you will need to rotate your finger clockwise or anti-clockwise i am always forget which is for zooming so u will need chk tht out...
I hope these tips helps u out....

Hmmmmmm, i see. Shame that somehow we can't take the good things from the Touch like the Home screen as standard and have them in the 3D instead. If any cab compilers are reading this, maybe it's something that could be done?
Along those lines, maybe someone could rip out the original texting keyboard, the smaller more compact one... better for stylus use and enables you to see more screen. I HATE the big finger pad they've put on the Diamond. Is is really necessary to have it that big? Surely if you're going to use the stylus (i mean if HTC didn't want us to use one, then ALL the functions and menus would be larger, yes?), then why provide us with one in the first place?!?!!

There are multiple SIPs already built into the Diamond. Holding your finger or stylus on the small arrow next to the keypad button when input is allowed will display the menu, from there you can select the Windows SIP which is tiny and stylus friendly...
Reading the manual is a good idea before posting dude. Or even a search

Well thanks for that reply. I'll have a mess about with that one.
That took no time at all. NO WINDOWS SIP on my handset. All i have are the following... BLOCK, COMPACT, FULL, KEYBOARD, LETTER, PHONEPAD and TRANSCRIBER *sigh*
What bloody version have you got?!?!!
Oh and for the record Mr Read-The-Text-Provided (lol)... did i not say this? ---> Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
Hmmmmm, i think i did!
Ok... answer this one then. Every other HTC phone i have had has done this but not on the Diamond. When you receive a simple thing like an mms or a text, the screen lights to give a clue in case you never heard the message laert. How you you activate THAT cus i'm not seeing how it'ds done anywhere.
Clues please?
I agree - the 'manual/instructions' Orange sent were non-existent and as a first time PPC user I was totally lost until I had a nosey around here and to be fair am still learning all what this phone can do!

Install Diamond Tweak, which is available here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409540
and that gives you the option to enable this feature. (along with tons of other tweaks to!)
Hope this helps!

HTC want a good kicking if you ask me. The thing as I see it is this. If they'd have kept the basics as it was on the Kaiser (Tytn II) and THEN added the 3D, all would have been superb.
As for Orange... well, nuff said

Thanks for that chap. My tone? Oh well if i've offended anyone then i apologise. I'm just a bit jumpy when things don't go according to plan and my comments come over as slightly abrasive when in fact, they're supposed to come over as a normal question but in a jokey type manner. I get that in a face to face sitation to so i know exactly what you're saying.
Again, thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated
Is it possible to customize HTC home that comes with WM6.1 for the Tilt upgrade that was just released? I have it installed and I like it, for the most part. However, I would really like to change the favorite contacts and the items in the launcher. However, when I hold my stylus on one of the contacts I don't want to see, it just starts dialing.
Is there a manual for the new software that I missed somewhere?

don't hold your stylus on one of the programs/contact you don't want to see, just click the last program/contact in the section, which should be an X
And this is why I need to play more than I did... Are there any other tweaks for the HTC Home? personally, I'm not liking the amount of real estate it takes on the screen... 2/3 of it in portrait and all but 1-2 lines in landscape is a little much.
I like the functionality of it, but would really like to find ways to make it look better/different if that is possible.

Nope. Its pretty much fixed size. You can get emunutz's HTC Home Customiser to chage the clock font, icons etc. But as for size... its fixed. The only way is to recreate something similar using apps/plugins like batterystatus

Please see this video. It's a China phone run Android OS. You can see the Picture Viewer on this device, it's awesome. I hope someone can get this application and share it.
According to the description for that video, it is not running on Android, but rather is an Android skin to whatever operating system it is running on. Probably precludes the picture viewer from running on Android.
I'm kinda shocked no one made a picture scrolling app...or at least the Astro makers released their built in one as a standalone...
I'm shocked the standard picture viewer doesnt support swipe.
Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with pushing the left and right arrow buttons to switch pictures? It's less work than swiping.
true...nothing is wrong with it, but I mean overall astros viewer (thumbnail slider, autorotate - which I think will exist in cupcake anyways if haykuro's builds are proper) is much nicer more functional when it displays (not enough menu options though..aka one...share)

well worth it.
Why on earth would anyone want that program he couldn't even swipe the pictures. Get photoslide on the market its only $0.99 and works a lot better.
I dont like photoslide, a waste of my dollar, but someone should really make HTC Album, I had it on my Wing and loved it

As you can c I HAD a Wing, and Photoslide doesnt even have a rotate feature, like rotate the picture and save it rotated, and pressing back exits the app, id rather use the stock one

The developer of photoslide has said they are working on an auto rotate feature. What don't you like about photoslide? I find its pretty close to HTC album.
i dont mean auto rotate idc about that, u evr take a pic and its sideways? Ok in photoslide you dont have the option to rotate the picture and save it rotated.
I have photoslide, It's very suck.
1. Bad icon
2. Force Close many time
3. No rotate feature
4. Bad interface
5. Must click menu to select Folder.
I thought the developer will add new feature and make his app better then I bought it. Very dissapoint
It's real Android. And I think that application can run in any android device

Well i have jac/drizzys hero on my g1, and its amazing fast.
I have 3 main widgets i like to use, Weather, Clock [sexy bastard] , and message (sometimes a forth, people).
And IT doesn't lag woohoo. I don't ever use swap, and i don't over clock.
I notice when i hit the home button when my g1 is closed, the loading will never show, but however ( i know, i know the hero doesn't have a physical keyboard) when i open the keyboard and press home it'll lag.
Enough said, I was just wondering is there anyway to make the home screen orientate Landscape style?
Maybe if there was a way to do that, there wont be anymore lag while opening the g1 because the g1 won't be "FORCED" to landscape on the home screen.
just a question.

To be honest, i think anything is possible
Like LEDS,bluetooth, Converting odex files to apks will eventually happen
even the physical keyboard sliding open as you stated
But it really a matter of time and whos going to try and put the dedication to doing so, Yeah i know people say bt and everything on hero wont ever work
But do you think when they first attempted to root a g1, they decided not to and say "it'll never work"?? No they didn't and thats why were all here, just wait my friend.
AndroidSPIN is reporting that an HVGA version of Swype is now available, letting those of us with Eris' finally take a crack at this thing.
Which would be great, if it functioned. The install process goes okay (a step above the poor G1 users out there), but the keyboard then ... nothing. It's as though it doesn't exist. The Settings options are there (under Locale + Text), but nothing seems to happen. adb logcat revealed nothing in particular.
Anybody know what's up here?
You might want to follow this thread and see if it works for you.

I would try it but I'm more of a two handed typer myself...
I like the HTC Keyboard... (maybe because I just got the phone and I'm not tired of it yet). I had swype on my Omnia before I sold it, and it worked ok there because the small, lower res screen made touch typing difficult. I'm not finding that on the Eris. Although Swype would be more fun with a capacitive screen, I had to really push hard to get to work right on the Omnia...
I agree, the HTC keyboard is top-notch. I'm already at near-native typing speed on common words. It was more out of curiosity than anything. I'm always fascinated by emerging input technologies for embedded devices, and this seemed the most clever one to cross my desk in a while.

lol...no trickery...just MAGIC! lmao.
Just download it...
Then go into settings/locale&text/ and check the swype box.
Then head into your text or email app, and long press your dialogue box, it will ask you which input you wanna use swype or default keyboard and select swype!
Only prob I am having is that when i am in landscape mode, it will type but it wont show what i am typing on the screen, but if i switch to portrait it is there? weirdness...
Works just fine for me. make sure to disable audio sounds in the swype settings, there is a bug with the sounds.
I tried using it yesterday but it just wasn't my cup of tea...
here... http://rapidshare.com/files/354228280/Swype.micro.1.16.apk
this version is working fine for me, no expire warning. micro version = no tutorial/help file.
i really love swype on the eris.. it makes typing soooooo easy.
