Hello, greetingz to all. I recently purchased used Xperia, and it worked well untill few days ago, when i start to have problems with microphone (in phone). The sound reception is very poor and people i talk to can barely hear me or not hearing me at all. I tried all and nothing works, except when i connect headset in vibration-only mode. Then the reception of the sound from the headset microphone perfect. But not when the sounds on the phone are on, or in any other case. I also tried does it record sound on video or audio for MMS - same thing, just crackling noise.
I would appreciate if anybody could help with this. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I did hard reset, i did reinstall software from SE Update (even i had most recent one), nothing happened.
Same problem here!
But i can use the headset when the sound is on.
Im afraid i lose my phone for a while, again. I had software problems before.
I think i will burn a good rom when it's back.
in settings->system->Microphone AGC
turned on ?
AGC == automatic gain control which mean the mic adjust it's sensitivity according to the volume of the surroundings
Rudegar,
i wish i read your tip before i brought it to the shop
but i think it would be standard because i also tried a hard reset?
there is also a crack in my xperia, so i sent it anyway
greets, robbin

Hi,
I have a very weird problem with my Tytn II, which I bought little over a week now.
People I was talking to complained they didn't hear me very good, the sound appeared to drop. It occured to me that it was happening when I used the speaker (handsfree) of the phone.
I did some testing, and this is what happens:
I (with the Tytn II) call person X, and when I and person X are talking together, person X cannot hear me, the sound on his side simply fades to nothing, until 1 of us keeps quiet. The same happens when for example sound from my car is picked up by the phone, thus resulting in the device not being usable in the car, since there's always some noise. I however on my side keep hearing person X, it's person X that doesn't hear me.
It happens with 2 sim cards, everyone I call, did a hard reset, HTC support doesn't know the problem...
I'm puzzled. Can anyone suggest anything? Or is it faulty?
Thanks
no, mine does the same thing. I got it a few days ago and when i used speaker while driving, i could hear the other person perfect, but they cant seem to hear me. It feels like half duplex. i hope this is fixable
Damn, it seems widespread then...?
Anyone who can test it?
maybe it has to do with whatever noise cancelling algorithm is in effect is mucking everything up

Meaning that every single device would have this, and thus mine not being faulty?
I had the same problem but remembered that there was an automatic sound function which turns down the volume when talking is too hard and turns it up when to soft. Its called microphone agc and you can find it under system configuration. Now that it's turned off my dutch htc tytn II works fine in handsfree mode. Hoop this helps you also

It's already turned off :-( .
However, I just called with HTC, and they said it's because of the mic and the speaker being too close to each other, and thus it compensates.
They say every model has it however, they did a test today and the result was that it was a feature, not a bug...
Anyone here who does not have it on his device?
I have this problem all the time, both on speaker and just using the phone to my ear as normal.
People complain I am very quiet or that the sound is choppy and I sound like a robot
I used to have this problem on the O2 XDA IIs a few years ago.
Anyone else have it too? I'd like to know asap if this device is faulty, or if it's normal?
Sometimes, it seems that when I'm holding it to my ear, the sound seem to drop on the other side too...
I have exactly the same problem. People have trouble hearing me with loudspeaker switched on. Without speaker they can hear me perfectly.
I have the same problem too. Just try to disable the Microphone AGC thing and it fixes the problem. Thanks downnootje.
I have teh same problem , but I tried something and it is improved the Operation , try to minimize the Speaker volume to the minimum level and then it improes a little and it works for me ; not all the time but that is what we can do at the moment
I'm convinced now that it's a mojor problem.
Mine even got worse: since yesterday, it's happening without handsfree too, people can't almost hear me when I just hold it to my ear...
Is this a phone still, or can't it be used as such?
try enableing Microphone AGC thing, restart phone, and disable it
Me too. Juz got my set 2 days back. The other party hears my voice intermittently chop-off...
I have faced the similar problem on a particular China-made TV phone too. Tested two other units of the same model still the same. It seems to me the phone design issue, as after I changed to another model of China-made TV phone, the problem solved.
Sigh! Already got this expensive phone, think have to bear with this feature then if it is really cannot be resolved by new ROM.
same problem
i have the same problem...with my 8525 when I was on the train or in a similar noisy situation i never had any trouble with people hearing me on the other end...with the tilt i can't even carry on a conversation on the train...i called tech support and they told me to swap it out for a new one.

I've tried that and it doesn't help! Quite sad about it. I need to use speaker handsfree especially during driving.... Don't really like to hook-up the headset or BT headset... too messy for wired headset and too tedius (charging) for BT headset...
Now that I know its half duplex it works pretty well in the car - I just wait for the other person to stop talking
Surur
I will be sending mine to HTC for a planned hardware fix as they agreed there is a defect that affects all kaiser and tilts, but NOT the MDA VARIO III. this is a known issue and is hardware related. Good news for those who havent purchased one yet. I will sell mine on ebay if they dont asign me a RA soon. I rather have the MDA VARIO III as it has 2 cams.
(doesnt your HTC TYTN2 has 2 camera's?)
Same problem here. Hope for a sollution soon!
Will call HTC too soon, so theyll have more complaints about this defect.
My Kaiser lost its sound, I can talk on the phone but no sound from phone, it is all quite, Any ideas, How can it be fixed? or Is it hardware problem?
I have updated to Dutty Rom,
Regards
Tunc Eresen
Not sure what version of phone you have, but AT&T Tilt users who flash ROMs (present company included) have problems with the radio version affecting audio. Try downgrading your radio. Click Here
Kaiser Speaker Problem !
I have the same issue and it is a hardware problem with the Speaker, and I sent it back to HTC Service center and I am waiting their answer , I think the Speaker type is not designed for the sharp voices, as I was doing restore after a hard reset; and during the restore operation ; the Daily alarm ( 3 Alarms ) is triggered at the same time ?! because of restoring and I think when it all trigger the sound the speaker is damaged .
I also lost all sound from the back speaker (only when set the sound to max and press the speaker against ear, then could hear something very faint when playing for example an mp3). Sent it off to repairs and the speaker was replaced under warranty.
I have heard of at least one similar case here in Estonia (but he didn't send the phone to repairs, 'vibrate' was good enough for him).
aaargh this has happened to mine as well!
HOWEVER i have no sound from the headphones either so i suggest its a driver issue - otherwise if it was speaker the phones would still work surely?
Change your Radio. This has happened to a lot of people before. Its just a simple up/downgrade of the Radio. That should fix it.
yeah sorted now- thanks mate !
I am having quite an interesting problem with my Kaiser. Yesterday, after doing a hard reset on Dutty's new WM6.1 ROM, my external speaker seemed to have stopped working.
I can make calls, and hear the other party through the phone speaker, but I cannot hear my phone ring, mp3s, screen taps, or the speakphone. Basically, any sound that is supposed to come out of my external speaker does not work. Sometimes I hear crackling, and some faint distorted sound, but this last for 5 seconds, and then all sound stops. If I'm on a phone call, everything is ok and I can speak and hear whoever I am talking to, but the second I turn the speakerphone on, sound will stop or crackle then stop.
I did a hard reset, and got nothing. Reflashed the ROM, same problem. Flashed to a different radio, same problem. Then I flashed back to the original HTC ROM and radio, and still have the same problem.
Obviously, I am thinking its a hardware problem. Their weird thing is that I haven't dropped my phone or done anything different to it. It spent the entire day in my pocket. Since I'm in Canada and cannot purchase the phone here, I bought it from a third party through eBay and therefore do not have warranty. I will probably take it to a local phone repair shop tonight, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem, or if anyone has any suggestions as to how to fix it.
Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Hey guys,
walking home yesterday was listening to music with audio booster and all was great, bass was fine.
Later on in the day, tried and didn't want to work at all. It played fine but no bass, really terrible sound.
Using the HTC headphones that came with the phone. Is there any way to reset the settings back to normal as I MAY of changed something without realising.
Cheers
No-one got any clues on this? I've searched High and low and isntalled the paravolume thing but nothing's helping this..
Really tinny sound now, with and without the standard headphones (i've also tried high quality in-ear ones that should be good but just arent).
Cheers
Hard reset?
Hard reset the phone, and it's fixed!
Any idea what settings MAY of changed this? Audio booster was enabled, and disabled etc and no change what-so-ever (aprt from a bit less tinny sound nothing major)
Cheers!
probably just a bug ^^
I've got the same problem now. Probably some app is causing this, because after I changed ROM (so it's like HR) the problem is still there. Sound is fine on speaker and through BT stereo headphones. Anybody else had or has such problem?
I also have this problem (O2 Diamond 1.37.401). Few day ago everything was ok, but now, sound is full of distorsion and no bass in present at all, Bass booster made no help. Maybe Advanced Configuration Tool made some mess, becouse it has setting for default volume, and bass, treble level? Are you using this tool also?
I find the solution. Audio booster have a bug.
Plug your earphones, run Booster, disable it and close.
Now unplug and plug phones again back, run booster and enable it.
That worked for me.

Hope somebody can help please? My Zuk Z2 Pro has lost the earpiece sound when on a phone call. People can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I am sure its a software problem but not sure how to permanently fix it.
I ran a manual engineering test by typing *#*#1111#*#* and checked the speaker and the microphone in settings, they are fine. However, the ‘Rec’ setting wont play any sound to the earpiece.
I have read its a known issue and installing the app mswitch (keycut) worked, but it didnt. I then read about switching off "OK Google", well on a Zuk this is not easy to find, so am not even sure I was able to disable this app.
EDIT: After more investigation I have found that when I turn the voice volume up in ringer settings it does nothing, which I think may be the speaker itself. My wife has the same phone and hers works normally. There are three ringer volumes, and the middle one does nothing but I know it did yesterday
I then tried another app called "Soundabout". This worked and allowed the Rec setting in the engineering side of the phone to play a sound, like an increasing oscillalation of sound. I then restarted the phone and it worked, but not permanently. The app doesn't seem to stay working.
However, when I made a phone call the earpiece speaker still didnt work. I could not hear anybody but they could hear me.
However, it does work when headphones are plugged in.
Does anyone know if a factory reset of the software would help as I am stuck and desperate for help. It just suddenly stopped working yesterday, so am puzzled as to why. The phone is just less than 12 months old, so not particular aged and it has always been in a case and well looked after. Its running stock Android 6 with the ZUI overlay from Zuk, so no changes made to it.
I have de same problem. Two months ago the speakers decreased the volume and microphone does not work properly.
I replaced the usb + mic piece, but the problem remains the same. Now, I have ordered speakers piece, but I guess the problem will continue.
The only thing I can think is the origin of the issue could be the bluetooth earphones that in some way had changed the sound configuration.
Try to qfil ZUI 1.9, if that does ot help then its hardware problem most likely.

Finally I have found the origin of the problem. It was in the dust filters of the phone. I used an special liquid for the screen protector. Some of this liquid goes to the filters. I have cleaned this filter with a brush teeth.
It is silly and I feel dumb.
Simple fix
Please do not feel dumb or stupid as this is something we don't think about.
The problem is due to dust and fabric accumulation. I just had this problem.
The fix is simple.
Use something soft to bang your receiver. In my case i used the tip of my finger. You want to the bang to be good but not to break the glass. My finger hurts a bit so I think a small rubber hammer will do the job.
Hope this helps.
Clean earpiece protector
Hi, I had the same issue and after trying all software tweaks with no success, what I have done is use a toothbrush to clean the tiny holes from the earpiece protector. I pushed some brush bristles gently through the holes and... it worked!!!
Hope it helps.
