I tried to call for the 1st time today.
When I call to someone, or vice versa, other party can hear me, while I hear nothing at all via ordinary phone speaker (on the front side). Volume changes does nothing.
If I tap "Speaker" - I can hear other party via another speaker (on the rear side of the device).
If I plug the headset in - agian, it works normally as supposed.
Is my phone speaker broken or do I miss something? I played with every settings I could find, but nothing helps...
Did anyone have the same problem?
Acer Liquid, 1.6 orginal rom. I didn't have a chance to reinstall rom yet, so it should be just fine. I did install a few apps from Market.
I had exactly the same problem.
I was using ROM LCR 1.6.
I have just reflashed my phone and still the same problem, I think it is broken.
I've bought my Acer Liquid two months ago!
sounds like a hardware problem with the phone speakers. Normal calls should be heard through the speakers above the screen. speakerphone/ringtones/media sounds go through back speakers.
Had the same issue- returned it for another one.

I had a same problem. My phone speaker does not work.
Hi guys,
Just to let you know. I contacted Acer and they immediately told me that I need to send the phone to them for repair. (maybe it's a know issue).
I did that. 3 weeks after got the phone back. It works fine now.
On the paper I got with the phone they said that the part changed is "reciever"
So for those who have the problem - send your phone back.

I encountered this problem today....
I thought it was a hardware problem...
A Full Wipe cleared the issue..
You should try a full wipe before conclude that its a hardware issue...
I had this problem as well on my Acer Liquid E. Mine was a hardware issue, as when i would grip it tightly or press on the earpiece I would get intermittent sound but there was static. I did 4 wipes and nothing solved it.

Sry for that! Just don't grip it tight
We all know its a very fragile device...
Acer should have engraved "HANDLE WITH CARE" on both side of the device.
I have fixed the hear speaker
Hi all! I had this problem with my Acer Liquid, I had no warranty so I tried to solve the problem and succeeded. It's not software or configuration, it's a broker hear speaker!
Symptom: You can hear the person on the other end with Loud Speaker, Bluetooth Headset and Hear Phones but you can't hear via the Hear Speaker.
Problem: Broken Hear Speaker.
His problem is reported all over the Internet but with no solution beside sending to Acer.
I risked and fixed it myself by dissembling my Liquid and find a compatible hear speaker.
Big Problem: No spares parts anywhere for this device.
Solution: Blind search for a spare hear speaker by looking at pictures and compare with broken one.
Big Solution: This speaker is also used on a series of iPaq (HP) PDA's and i found a website that sells them quite cheap.
I found two compatible models of speaker and i leave the links here.
I bought these two:
www*repairhppda*com/front-speaker-for-hp-ipaq-voice-messenger-p-1822.html
www*repairhppda*com/internal-speaker-for-ipaq-910-912-914-910c-912c-914c-p-1235.html
!! I can't post links so remove the * and put dots on the links.
I've only used one so can't say which i used because they are very similar, but one of them works for sure the other i can't guaranty but I'm almost sure it also works.
(it seems like it could fit but don't know and can't confirm... did not buy this one)
I disassembled my Acer Liquid, replaced the hear speaker, and Bang! It' Works!
Notes: Be careful when disassembling your liquid you could easily break something, take steps slowly and carefully.
If you need any hint, speak here, i'll try to answer as soon as possible.
Cheers!
I am having another problem. The people from the other side hardly hear what I say, they say my phone is too noisy, especially at the beginning of the call. The quality is ok for me, I can hear everything very clearly.
I don't know if it is a hardware problem or just (hopefully) a problem with the baseband or something like that.
I have the same problem.
I tried to flash a different baseband and apparently it started working ok but after a while the noise was back again.
The strange thing is that the noise seems to pop up only when I call from certain places and not from others.

Yes, it's a very annoying problem. Since the other party cannot hear me clearly, now I have to go back to my HTC Touch HD until I found a solution for this.
I bought this Acer Liquid as a 2nd hand one without invoice, so there is no way to return to Acer for a repair service.
Yesterday I received a call and I couln't ear anything, then I tried to callback (thinking it was a network problem) and I still couldn't ear anything. I used the loudspeaker and it was working, also plugged my headphones and I could ear the other party.
I then called Acer complaining, they told me the phone needed to be repaired (the quickness on the response made me think this is somehow usual), that I should put it in a box with the RMA code written on it and that they would send me DHL to pick it up. Today DHL picked the phone, so far everything as been dealt really fast and I can't anyhow complain on Acer support, lets just see how long it will take till I get my phone back.
Hi Forum,
I orginally posted this topic on the man Q and A board but it was buried quickly with no response. Perhaps this is a better venue to ask.
My phone is roughly a year old, and today I ran into a weird and potentially phone killing problem
I received a few phone calls from my girlfriend today, the ringer rang loud and clear, but I heard no sound from my ear piece. After a few "Hello?"s, I hung up thinking it was a bad connection. Upon seeing my girlfriend afterwards, she said she heard me on my end. So I got her to call me again and I tried to use speaker phone, and I could hear her fine.
Doing some research on google, I only ran across one other person who had this problem, and upon seeing this, I tested my music player, (as theirs didn't work), and mine doesn't work either
This other person said the problem resolved itself a day later.
In short, my ear piece has no sound during a phone call and my media sound doesn't work (though it works w/ headphones.) My notification sounds and speaker phone DO work, as well as my alarms
Do the notification and speaker phone speakers come from a different place than media and ear piece speakers?
Do I have a software issue? I tried the "push the speaker down" solution but to no avail
Should I wait like the other person?
Any suggestions?
Thanks forum!

I had nearly the same issue, except mine got to the point where the speaker phone didn't work either. Music played fine, phone calls stopped working. I went through a lengthy process of accidently deleting everything I had on my phone, which lead me to buy a USB Jig, install the stock ROM and it worked perfectly. I would suggest trying this before you try and physical fixes on your phone.
Thanks for the suggestion SGT_Watkins
I am an absolute noob when it comes to this stuff. So it took me a while to even figure out what you were saying
BUT, after a whole night of reading and flashing it WAS FIXED!!!
I am quite tempted to phone Samsung and give them a piece of my mind after they told me some hardware was defective even though they clearly weren't listening to what the problem was
Thank you again!
How did you solve this?
I have the EXACT same problem on my Galaxy Nexus. I've wiped it, tried different ROMs, kernels... Nothing solves it! It's like there's a persistent software problem that survives flashing and even battery pulls.
My phone had this same issue not long ago. It was after I had used some headphones for about an hour. I work in a paper converting factory, so I assume some dust was packed in the headphone jack and made the phone think something was plugged into it. I turned my phone upside down and used a paper clip to scrape it all out (compressed air may have been safer). After a few tries, all sounds were working properly again.

Hello everyone. A few days ago I started having a problem with my cappy, and I can't put my finger on the cause.
My speaker stopped working. Partially. When I'm on the phone with someone, I can't hear anything from them. If I turn the loudspeaker on, I can hear them just fine. Phone rings and notifies me of smses but I can't hear anything else. I don't hear music or video playing on the phone or the alarm clock.
In short, Working: In-call loud speaker, sms and calls.
Not working: everything else - music, alarm clock, in-call sound.
In summery, I can't decide if it's a software or a hardware problem.
I'm running CM 10.1 M2 with devil 4.2.
I should also note that I disassembled my phone to try and apply the
"loosen the screw" fix on the speaker assembly with no luck, nothing changed.
I think both. Earpiece and speakers are different devices.
Hardware - earpiece, software - speakerphone alarms, music etc.
One simple idea: take a piece of something thin, like needle and clean 3.5mm port.
I had almost-same issue 1 year ago. just dust formed wool and began shorting contacts inside port.

Thank you for the reply. Let me get this straight, you suggest I clean the 3.5mm port even though earphones work fine? (I haven't mentioned this but with earphones, everything works properly).
earphones = headphones = ear plugs? no, not this.

Your phone has 2 speakers - front, and back.
As i understand, your front speaker (for usual calls) is malfunctioning.
And if you turn SpeakerPhone in call, then you can hear oponent?
Try to clear port, this wont hurt. But might fix issue. You don't need to disassemble phone, wooden match will do too for cleaning.
Just nothing wet, and don't do rough movements inside port.
It's a bit fragile.

When it happened to me I had to re-seat the ribbon going from the speaker to the sim board. it is very sensitive and I had to do it twice before I got connection back....i just banged the phone around too much and the ribbon lost contact....After the ribbon is seated correctly then just don't tighten that screw too much as it will unseat the ribbon again.
So, gosha.
Anything fixed?
I did as you suggested Yuna, I tried cleaning the 3.5mm port but I'm afraid it had no effect.
Then I disassembled the phone again and as Rmntruexjr suggested, I tried re-seating the ribbon connecting the speaker module to the circuit board several times while the phone is turned on and I'm trying to play music throughout the ordeal. That didn't help either. As previously, ringers work and the loud speaker works but alarm clock, music and the front speaker for calls do not.
Does anyone know if the music and alarm clock are being played by the front or back speaker?
If they are played by the front speaker then the problem is obviously a malfunction in the front speaker and I should just get a new one. Otherwise, there is something weird going on and the back speaker only plays some of the sound and then I can't explain it.
music is played from back speaker.
stupid q: did you checked volume levels?

Yup. Just to make sure, we are talking about System Settings -> Sound -> Volumes?
However, your question has just made me recheck all the settings and apparently the alarm clock does work!
The current situation is music and front speaker in-call sound doesn't work, but back speaker in call sound works and so do all of the ringers, notifications and alarms.
So, if you play music - no go? Try volume buttons in-playing.
There are 4 different volumes, and 1 hidden.
Front speaker might be broken. Try stock rom, if not helping - service.
And also in call try to adjust volume.
Try kernel with/without voodoo sound. Install/uninstall voodoo sound.

No go on the music, same with the volume buttons in call.
As for the kernel, I don't think there is a voodoo and cmc version for the 4.2 Devil kernel (for whatever reason), I only found one version of it - set me straight if i'm wrong.
I'll try rolling back and flashing CM 10.0, i'll see if it helps and report back.
Servicing the phone here is probably out of the question since i897's don't exist in my country, only i9000's so if it comes down to hardware, i'll just order a new speaker module from ebay and install it myself.
But to order, you must be sure its speaker itself.
Sounds like software issue now...

I'm actually surprised the ribbon trick didn't work. I know your issue sounds messed up, but what you describe is detail for detail what I was seeing. It made no sense what so ever to me how for instance no front speaker in call but still speaker phone worked, but then no music, yet alarm works....(i think the ribbon can lose contact on just the right side so you only get some things working).
Sorry it didn't work for you, but it might be worth it to try again if you exhaust all other possibilities. If you do, keep the phone off while trying to seat the ribbon(and make sure the little black fastener is all the way open(up) when inserting the ribbon). Then to test without putting it all back together I used an elastic to hold the battery and tested that way........
If it really does turn out to be the front speaker/jack/sensor unit, I found one last month on ebay for around $2 for a cappy with a bad Jack and it was fairly easy to replace.
For what it's worth, mine stopped working the other day for no reason. Hit it, and now it works. Just something to try (not too hard of course, just a light tap on the hand )

Same issue....That is how mine started...I dropped it one day then I went to play music and the sound would just cut out for no reason it seemed...I could shake or tap on the phone and it would come back on for a while, then nothing again....for me, it was the speaker ribbon.
Ahh that's kinda crappy (no pun intended). As soon as I hit mine, it worked the whole time the phone wasn't bricked .

So, I rolled back to CM 10.0 and no change, which means that it's probably a hardware issue, albeit, a very weird one.

I didn't realize earlier that you had the EXACT same problem so I'll give it another go. It's a good idea with the rubber band, I had to hold the battery throughout the ordeal last time. Even if I order one of these units on ebay now, it'll take about a month to arrive.

I'm afraid I tried everything I could which relates to the common Cappy speaker malfunction, that's not it i'm afraid.
I spent 10 days in the desert prior to this malfunction so it's very possible sand caused something (there is sand inside the phone ) or I may have dropped it or something. I didn't want to mention this earlier so I don't throw you guys off straight into a hardware issue.
Well imo hardware is usually an easy fix, so long as it's not the main board (at that point it'd make more sense to just buy a new phone). Open the phone up (don't be scared, there's a tear-down guide on this section w/ pictures), take a can of compressed air, and lightly go over all of the parts inside the phone. Take care not to knock anything out of place. You may also want to re-connect all of the ribbon cables, just in case one came loose (very VERY high possibility). If you need any extra help you can pm me here or shoot me an email (I work in IT and do hardware repairs all the time ).
Hey guys,
Bit of a strange problem, recently my speakerphone has stopped working. Whenever I place a call on speakerphone the other party can hear their own voice echo and this becomes progressively worse over a couple of seconds till neither parties can hear each-other and its just a loud fuzz.....everything else on the phone is working perfectly! It's never been dropped or anything...its still in immaculate condition! I am running the latest firmware (UK) and it's started happening randomly....any ideas on how to fix?:crying:

I got the exact same problem and no solution so far. I've tried various rom versions (4.4.x - 5.0.2 and CyanogenMod Nightly), but it didn't help, so I'm afraid it's a hardware thing.
I don't know if you also experienced that, but if I let noise cancellation (in setting) enabled my calling partner also does hear an echo and my voice is much quieter, without using the speakerphone.
In my case it's possible that I damaged the phone my self, since I had to replace my whole case and the lcd, after falling damage.
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me which part exactly is causing this problem.
I had to change thel unit also due to the touchscreen bering cracked.
Speakerphone, or 'audio output', is not working. Although I might have had this problem before. I can't remember.
I read on another forum that the bottom speaker only comes on when on speakerphone.
So I'm thinking maybe damaged it while repairing the replacement lcd unit.
I hope this is not the case. I have yet to do a factory reset. Just need a bit a spear time to do it.
I have this problem too.
I broke my screen and i replaced it with a new screen(including LCD) by myself, and after that the speakerphone stopped working. It's so strange because microphones and Speakers work ( i have tested it in *#*#7378423#*#*).
Mah!
My replacement lcd came within a new case without the back panel. All I had to do was place the motherboard in the new case.
The new case had a bottom loud speaker already in it. I have, last week, opened the phone up again and replaced it with the original speaker. Unfortunately, still cant get the speakerphone to work.
I will try an reset one day , once i make a note of my apps and back updata.
Has anyone tried a reset yet?
Bought Xperia Z3C and from the first day some calls didn't work well... Others couldn't hear me about 60-70% of the calls, sometimes they heard like strong wind is blowing into the mic and when I put the call on loudspeaker then it worked, they heard me loud and clear.
So I took the phone back and ordered a new one, cause I really like Z3C, even more, if it would work with no problems
So my new, second Z3C, same green beauty - but same problem! I tried repairing with the first phone and tried doing the tests, neither helped. Only this time about half of the calls act like that. Sometimes if I put the call on speaker and then back, it works again, but not always.
So my question would be - Has anyone else had this kind of problem? And if so, what did You do? Is there even anything to do? Is it hardware or software?
There is no other phone I would like but it would be silly for me to try the same thing third time.
sorry to hear that,i guess that when you take the calls ,you cover the loudspeaker at the bottom of the phone

Similar thing happened to me, I had to yell first few days untill I discovered I had a bad habit from old mobile phone.
When i talk and holding the phone, my thumb is on the one side, three fingers on the other side, but that little finger is on the bottom, like i hold the phone not to slip down.
And the mic is positioned exactly so my little finger would cover it. That was my reason people couldn't hear me.
I doubt it's your case, but try to see if you do the same thing
Agree with others -- the mic is in a slightly odd place and I had to adjust the way I hold the phone to avoid blocking it in some way. Aren't the mics usually on the bottom left instead of the bottom right like the Z3c?
exact same problem

If i test the microphone at The built in test i get no problem but in skype, Facebook and All other things that uses my Mic it cuts off and makes a windy sound. I had this kind of a problem on the latest firmware (.77) sometimes. How about you try downgrading to an older firmware? Like the .93 firmware which can also be rooted

Got the same problem. After disabling "noise cancellation" (not sure how it's named in English FW) in settings > Call problems is resolved.
But now everyone hears everything within range of the main mic and thats not cool.
Can anyone confirm its related to 23.0.1.A.5.77 Firmware?
On previous version didn't had any issues except phone went underwater and died, and new one is already on the newest fw ;/
Don't want to do root due to guarantee issues after this.

+1 the same issue,
serviceman flushed the original firmware twice
nothing helped, they even refused to refund saying that they can not identify the problem .
Farewell guaranty, I'll try CM mb that will help.
The problem is floating, suspect bad mic contact or bad capacitor installed.
both require disassembling for proof.
Service tests shows that mic is ok.
Does anyone know how to get voltage\capacity curves from mic without disassembling ? mb some test pins on the back ?

So my question would be - Has anyone else had this kind of problem? And if so, what did You do? Is there even anything to do? Is it hardware or software?
There is no other phone I would like but it would be silly for me to try the same thing third time.

I had this problem, people did not understand what I said, TrackID was struggling to identify music. I left a message on my mailbox and could barely hear, changing the phone position helped a bit but it was still not loud. Sent the phone in repair and now it's perfect, I can whisper and people understand me

You had issues with the main mic - I do not have (luckilly) such an issue. Only 2nd has some problems, but if I launch service tests it records sounds fine. With different quality than 1st mic but records properly.
Mine was recording fine in service tests also (replay sounded ok), but it was apparently not sufficient in calls. I think the service test is very sensitive, with my repaired unit I can whisper at 10 cm and still perfectly understand on the recording.

Please post reply to those questions:
1. Do you have enabled noise-cancelling function.
2. Which mic you test in service menu?

1) Tried both, no difference
2) Tested microphone
Microphone in Z3C is the worst part of the phone
Im also have problems, or people Im talking to via phone, cause previous phone which I still have - SGS 5 mini - has very sensitive mic.
Both my phones are watter proof, also has special membrane, but when Im callling one to another difference are HUGE.
I checked 2 phones of my friends, and thier Z3C's have the same sensitivity, but the dont complain, as suppose they are usualy yelling
In SGS5mini I can rotate phone around the ear and still very louldy and clearly someone can hear me, thera are little diffrences ofcourse, but in Z3C where even when Im trying to have microphone close to mouth sound is much quieter - moving the phone little bit and conversation can be irritating.
It already pissed me off 3 times so much that I ended conversation, because of complaining of the other people.
P.S. Before someone will ask - yes, I disabled noise cancelling function from the begining, also trying different sound settings in call and sound menu.
SOLVED - at least in my case
What I did till today was:
disable any sound "improvements" in menu
cleaning microphone hole with compressed air
After test I saw little improvement, but still I was merely heard by other caller.
Looking mixer_paths.xml tried few times changing parameters and found the right one to rise sensitivity of internal mic.
Below are unchanged section that I'm talking about - in bold specific value that we can rise.
Code:
<path name="handset-mic">
<path name="adc4" />
<!-- 67 % of 124 (range 0 - 124) Register: 0x231 -->
<ctl name="DEC3 Volume" value="[B]83[/B]" />
<!-- 63 % of 19 (range 0 - 19) Register: 0x15F -->
<ctl name="ADC4 Volume" value="12" />
</path>
I choose value=92 as this found to be still safe (don't use to high values as it can damage your device) and I'm pretty happy now of my Z3C
Prepared MOD for this change to apply from recovery.
I've sent mine for repair. They said everything is ok, since repair service does not test calling in real life - just service tests, where this issue is impossible to catch. Had to ask them for "special" test - calling from my phone to somebody, and checking the difference between Noice cancelling feature turned on and off.
Hi any mod for stock ?
My wife have z3c everything was fine just one day start cut off world etc.
Will try with disabled reduce noise option
Any other solution ?
Guys I had the same problem, solved it today
Mine was running latest android 5.0.2(23.1.A.1.28) Z3 compact.
In my Music application(Walkman app updated to Music)-settings-Audio Settings- Mic sensitivity set to High.
Other person can hear me crystal clear
I suspect this is a Bluetooth related issue. I have my Bluetooth always on and when driving and calling there is no issue on car kit. I found an workaround, when calling before connected I press loudspeaker and mute unmute
