Fring is now available for Android, from their website or via the Market.
Allows you to make Skype calls, including SkypeOut to landlines (if you have SkypeOut credits in your Skype account).
It seems to be more compressed and "echoy" than just using Skype on my netbook (using the same WiFi connection) but it does work and lets you use your data plan rather than voice minutes.
Also lets you see if your Skype contacts are available.
Yep, nice little app. Brilliant if you want to make cheap/free calls (just watch your data plan).

I have read a few things about the GPS functionality on P3600.. is this true?
Skype: The 4350 (Herald) only has a 200MHz processor, so technically the P3600 ought to be better as Skype is processor intensive. Skype 2.2 doesn't work properly with 3600; not sure about 4350. Skype 2.1 works fine.
Of course the major difference is that the 4300 has a hard keyboard. For a faster processor, wait for the Tytn II
GPS: There are no problems with the P3600 GPS. Most reported problems are either due to people messing with the default settings, or not configuring the Application settings of the various GPS programs properly.
Skype 2.2 works great with mine P3600. For chat only
Are You Serious?
Using Skype for Chat only, is, well,.....
Looks like Skype/Google folks are planning something. It´s plain deadbrain to kill some devices out of your "latest" SW upgrade.
Don´t you think?.
I just have had to pass 2.1 to some surprised friend that just bought a new P3600.
Unbealivable.
skype 2.1 on 3600 / trinity
So then Skype 2.1 works with trinity for voice calls?
also anyone has any experience of making Skype SMS work with Skype for Mobile>?

I have replaced it with v2.1 and everything's just fine now. Voice calls are OK.

No - it's not at all true. You have not read a few things about the GPS functionality on P3600 at all.
If you could explain what you think you read - I could have a go at answering.
TO let you know - with recent (since March) ROMs, the GPS functionality is activated and works very well indeed.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying!

That's what I meant, 2.1 works OK with voice calls.
I haven't tested the SMS feature.
skype 100% works even for voice chat through network
Hi I use my htc tytn & htc 3600 both work excellent with skype even through my network provider (3g gprs) for voice chat & text both. I am 3 network & voip is free for me on my x-series add on so i installed fring from www.fring.com & do voice cahtting with my buddies online on any of these services: msn messenger, googletalk, skype, icq & sip via 3g/gprs (i can do it through wifi as well but as i have unlimited voip minutes & i don't have to depend on wifi network) so i am online 24 hrs & people can call me free & i can call online people for free & the quality is excellent as good as a normal phone either through network or wifi. I installed skype for Imate Jas Jam (when u have to select the make & model) on both of my phones). if u need any assistance my email is: [email protected]

Lucky man!
Where in the world you get "unlimited" voip 3G access for free? (monthly flat rate I suppose) I want that too! ;o)
I'm sure you have spoiled lot of jealous readings on your post......
BTW do you have a reading on how much 3G Mb data your Voip calls use per minute?
Here is a question (let me know if this is a re-post):
There is a way to make free calls in the US using Sipdroid full, Gizmo5 and GV (if you have a google voice account) per this guide:
http://iiordanov.blogspot.com/2009/07/sipdroid-gv-guava.html
This works great when I use GV to call any U.S. number. I decided to try to add Skype Lite to the mix. I set up GV to control any outgoing call in hope that the call that Skype out calls will be intercepted by GV and then routed through Gizmo5 to Sipdroid. I used Skype lite to call my home number (I have Skypeout unlimited world) and even though I got the call back through Sipdroid and heard the ringing tune in my G1, My home phone never rang.
What did I do wrong?
Any change this can work?
Why would you want to use skype? Its just a proprietary mess. You can simply use sipdroid straight up with any generic sip account.

I am using Skype for several years at home. I have unlimited world account for international calls, I have phone adapters at home that work with Skype and an impatient wife that would kill me if I introduce another solutions. All my friends using Skype to communicate. I don't want to have duplicate services or change my life.

Thats too bad. Skype, being proprietary, does not and will not ever dominate the voip market -- you're going to have to ditch it eventually. It's easier to do it now rather than wait until you have no choice.
Hi there,
anyone tested "Talkonaut" yet?
It's a VOIP Client which allows you to call your googletalk contacts via voip.
Besides that, you can integrate your existing sip accounts and make voip calls just like in sipdroid.
Just discovered it in the market and made a few tests.
I called a friend over googletalk and he can hear me clearly but unfortunately I can't hear him.
I don't know if it's the program or a wrong setting. I'm able to call the same friend with the windows gtalk client without any problems.
Then, I tried to connect to my gizmo5 account, it kinda works sometimes but very choppy. Sipdroid is better suited for this purpose.
It still seems to be in development, perhaps it gets better in the future
What would be awesome, is if there was a way to use my Google voice account with my g1 but using data and not voice hehe.

Is there a google voice app that allows you to make calls through your data connection?
Search GV in the Market.
the official google voice app still makes calls using your provider's minute count, it just lets you show your GV caller ID to the person on the other end.
you can use skype via the fring app. rev
Fring sucks. I use PortSIP. It's pretty lightweight (unlike Fring).
You need an SIP provider too. Google Voice is not an SIP provider. Gizmo can be directly incorporated with Google Voice but it's closed to new users right now. The best free incoming SIP provider I found was SIPGate. sipgate.com/one. They charge for outgoing calls, but it's free for incoming calls. You can use the Google Voice Call Back feature to get free VOIP through SIPGate just like with Gizmo.
Hi,
I am new to this, just flashed my AT&T N1 to CM6 RC3 yesterday and I am exploring everything new. Is there a way to get skype for my N1? I know they have it on Verizon, why no AT&T love? Is there some sort of way to access the verizon android app market to download it?
Please help,
Thanks
No Skype.
You can download Nimbuzz or any other Skype-supporting client.
is it possible that skype for verizon is ported to At&T?

And by any other client, you mean... ???
With Fring having dropped Skype support, I thought Nimbuzz was the only Android client that supported Skype voice, yah?
SIPDroid, I believe, allows Skype calls.
Also Skype Lite, which was dropped by Skype, can still be easily found on the internet.

SIPDroid, I was unaware of. But doesn't Skype Lite just use your minutes instead of data, for voice calls, which makes it kinda worthless?
AFAIK, that is the Verizon Skype, that the OP insists on getting for no good reason I could think of, and Skype Lite is the old version that looks and feels like a regular mobile Skype.

Maybe it feels like a mobile Skype, but it doesn't connect via wifi or 3g data and use my skype credit/subscription to make Skype VOIP to phone calls, or use the network for Skype to Skype calls. It uses your phone's minutes to connect to the Skype network for making calls.
