@OP
If it wasnt working on RC29, its probably a hardware issue. If you got a new phone, it was probably refurbished improperly

Well damn!!! I tried a old school method of fixing things. you know the one right? if it dont work just bang it a little. well thats just what i did and the damn bluetooth just turned on like it had always worked.
well thanks guys those of you who tried to help i appreciate it.

yeah.. umm... if it just turned on by banging it odds are it's going to just turn back off by breathing on it wrong, at least that's been my experience. Until the banging on it part leads to a bruised hand and it begins to turn off when a butterfly flaps it's wings in china.
I'd say get you a new phone if it's still under warrenty. Shouldn't be hard to go back to stock and return the thing.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but i have this same issue. How can i be 100% is an hardware fault ?

the quickest way to switch from jf 1.51 to the new CyanogenMod

Is their a really quick way to switch from the jf mod the CyanogenMod, because jesusfreke
Stopped updating the jf rom line permantely, I'm not sure if I have the recovery.img
Installed correctly, sorry if I don't make sense I'm a little new to this.
Make sure you are fully charged, and or have the G1 plugged in before starting.
1. Download and install MyBackup from the Market.
2. Backup all your call logs, contacts, sms, mms, applications, bookmarks, and ak notepad do not backup system settings, homescreen shortcuts.
3. Download and put this on the root of your sdcard: http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-recovery-1.4.img
4. Open up terminal, and type su.
5. cd /sdcard
6. flash_image recovery ./cm-recovery-1.4.img
7. type exit twice to exit out of the terminal application.
8. Download and put this on the root of your sdcard: http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.0.2-signed.zip
9. Download: ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip and put this on the root of your sdcard from: http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html#s3 or you can download it from: http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip
10. Reboot the phone. When you get to a black screen (just before the G1 logo) hold down home + power. Keep pressed until you see the recovery screen.
11. Select wipe menu option (with trackball), then confirm it with home key (when it asks you to).
12. Select flash any update, select update-cm-4.0.2-signed.zip, then press home to confirm. Wait until the flash finishes.

When you get to the skating android or tri-colored boot screen (depending on which SPL (hard/engineering/stock) you have) take note of the radio version. If you don't have radio: 2.22.19.26I, hit call-menu-end, hold down power + home, keep it pressed until you get to the recovery. Select flash any update, and select ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip and confirm with home when it asks you to. When it finishes it will ask you to reboot. Click reboot option. It will then reboot and get to a screen where you see an arrow going in to a chip. Leave it be and let it finish (it might be a few seconds to 1-2 minutes). It will reboot on its own. After it reboots and gets to a black screen, hold down home+power until you get to the recovery screen. Your just doing this step to ensure that you can get to a recovery screen. If you have landed at the screem, then hit call-menu-end to reboot.
15. Wait until your g1 powers all the way up. it will take a few minutes on first boot. Please be patient.
16. Sign-in to google all over again, quickly go to data synchronisation (in settings) and untick contacts sync.

really love the 5 home screens.
just trying to get the 110% satisfaction: any way to get flash on cyanogen builds?

22. Will you include the Flash Player from Hero?
No, because it's tightly coupled to the Hero Browser, which is tightly coupled to the Hero Framework. It's not easily portable at this point. Run Hero if you want it. Otherwise, we will have to wait for something more compatible.

I agree. All the instructions look like they would be for a phone that has just been rooted on RC29.

Not bricked but surely a mess....

Hello there.
I am a happy G1 owner for 3 days now
I ordered it from ebay because here in Greece it never came officially..
So I've orderder a used, already rooted and with another ROM
from JesusFreke.
I wanted to install the latest CM ROM so,
I downloaded the 4.2.5 CM ROM and the 1.6 Recovery from Android dev.
I placed them in sdcard and got into recovery mode.
I realised that I cannot use any zip file but I got only 3 options,
wipe cache
wipe everything
run update.zip
And then I did something stupid...
I renamed the recovery file into update.zip with the thought
that when I reboot again, I will press to install update.zip
and then the recovery will be installed. Then I thought to do
the same with the CM ROM.
But, ouch, the custom ROM disappeared, and now
when I go to see the information in the Settings I got this:
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37
[email protected] #19
Build number:
dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DRC83 14721 test-keys
And still except the mess I cannot select any .zip files
to execute from recovery mode...
And of course I don't know what to do to install another ROM
or return to a factory default.
The phone is functioning, Market, calls, camera, everything
but I don't know how exactly to "fix" the recovery mode
so I could give it another try...
I don't know if this helps
but I got this message in recovery mode:
cannt open /cache/recovery/command
Any ideas / howtos / fix for this ? I tried search
but I didnt find something similar...
im gonna be lazy

oops my bad dont need to be harsh i assumed he had amon ra 1,2,3 rec...
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate that and
sorry for this (mess), sleep issues + n00b in this ...section (G1) (...)
I'll give it a try and I'll update this.
I know this issue is solved, but I have a question. Could he have just flashed like cyanogen 4.0.4 and then flash a new recovery like amon_ra etc? Then started over?
I was in ...panic mode. After a coffee break I fixed it.
Booting into linux, downloaded sdk tools, adb and fastboot
and then I followed the directions in:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_ADP1_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
Step by Step.
All solved, I have installed the Cyanogen recovery and the latest ROM
/me happy again starts playing around with more funny stuff
haha ok well at least you got it working
@psychopomp
If the ADP recovery flashed, the stock ADP recovery would be flash upon every boot.
@b-man007
Thanks, good info to know.

Q. What is ADB?
A. ADB is a source tool for developers and avid android modders such as yourself to access the commands prompt of your phone through your PC. This allows full access to your phone through your computer which makes moving, installing, removing, and replacing files on your phone MUCH faster
Q. What is fastboot?
A. Similar to ADB, this allows you in flash a while img to any partition in your phone, including recovery, system, and user-data.
To setup ADB and Fastboot, please follow my very detailed guide found HERE

Difference between a Boot-Loop, Semi-Brick, and a full Brick
Boot-Loop
Q. What is a Boot-Loop?
A. A boot loop is when your phone is stuck on the "ANDROID" screen when u first boot your phone (after the G1 screen or the My Touch screen). This occurs when something you have flashed went bad or interfeared with something you already had installed.
Solution:
1. Turn off your phone
2. Enter Recovery (Hold HOME while holding the POWEr button)
3. Choose from the following:
- Install a rom you KNOW works. Such as the latest cyanogenROM or the rom you have been preivously using
or
- Make a full wipe of your SD Card an phone and flash your update again
Semi-Brick
Q. What is a Semi-Brick?
A. A Semi-Brick is when your phone wont boot at all. The only thing is, you still have access to the recovery and/or fastboot menu
Solution:
Brick
Q. What is a Brick?
A. A Brick is when your phone wont boot at all. This time, you DO NOT have access to the recovery AND fastboot menu. Basically, your phone is a paper weight.
Solution:
You can try this fix here which requires a Donor G1 to work:

......Android opens .apks, you would need androzip to extract a zip file. Linda will only open .apks to install..
Nicely done, as usual.
Would this guide be the same if I was using Super D as the rom?

No need to panic. As long as you can access the Blue Android Logo, you are fine.
Please list, step by step, what you did (including ROM Version Numbers).
Also - you might want to try flashing/wiping your phone. That seems to take care of many issues, but I'd still like to see what you did.

The issue is that the market will not download apps (it will try to start but it will not download).

Any one has any idea on how to solve this?

[Q] Trouble installing CM6 on my HTC Hero (CDMA)

Hope someone can help me here...I already rooted my CDMA HTC Hero and was in process of installing the CM6 zip file from my sd card through ClockworkMod Recovery...After rebooting, It just shows the HTC screen and it just sits there. I took the battery out and reset back to the original...I am running 2.15 update and a build of 2.32.651.2...This is my first time rooting/modifying a phone...Thanks

How long did it just sit there? Starting up a new ROM the first time sometimes takes a few minutes or more. It it's not rebooting itself, let it sit and load.
maybe

more info is needed to help you. What steps did you take EXACTLY? get long winded. Like what root method, what recovery, what wipe process, what flash process, etc.
Okay...I used Z4Mod and went with a permanent root (seemed to be successful)...I grabbed the free version of ROM manager from the mkt place...I then flashed Clockwork Recovery in ROM Mgr...Finally, I selected "Install ROM from SD Card." A prompt showed up and I selected "Backup Existing ROM" and "Wipe Data and Cache." After checking OK, it rebooted and froze on the HTC screen for 15+ minutes two times. I have two zip files on my sd card: "update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Heroc-signed.zip" and "gapps-mdpi-20101213-signed.zip" This is as far as I could get...thanks!
Well when you chose to backup existing rom that was good. When you chose to wipe data that was bad. Now your phone can't boot into anything because you wiped all of your data. But you were smart and made a backup. A general rule of thumb at least IMO
Is only wipe data if your flashing a new rom or having trouble with an exiting one. With that being said. Just boot into recovery by
Holding home and power until you see your recovery
Then look for an option that says install update zip from sd or update from sd. I don't use clockwork mod but I'm sure its something to that effect. Then choose install from sd or what ever the option was. Then you should see your two rom zips on your sd choose which one to install, let it finish and reboot. Being a fresh install it might take a minute. Or if you want to go back to your factory rom just look for an option that says restore and choose your backup you made when you used rom manger. Hope this helps good luck.

Instead of installing from ROM Manager, select the option to Reboot Into Recovery.
From there, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, then select Wipe Cache Partition, then go into Advanced and select Wipe Dalvich Cache.
Once those steps are complete, go back to the main menu and select Install zip from SD Card, then select Choose zip from SD Card. Find the CM zip and select it.
Once it completes, select Install zip from SD card again, find the gapps zip and select it.
Go back to the main menu again, and select Reboot now.
That's an old build of 6.1 anyway, grab the "stable" release instead.
Thanks for all of your assistance. Where can I find a current, stable 6.1 download file? I will replace it on my sd card before going forward.
Also, how do I get to the boot/recovery screen? When I choose recovery, it freezes with the HTC screen...I have success getting the phone back to original when I select fastUSBboot, or something similar to that...
Trying powering off, then press and hold the Home button while you press and release (don't hold) the Power button.
If that doesn't work, try pressing the volume up button while pressing the Power button.
Turn off the phone and hold volume down and power. A white screen will appear from there press the home button. It will take a good 15 to 20 seconds to get into recovery. Are you waiting long enough???
Or power off phone and hold power and home untill it boots into your recovery remember it takes a few seconds 10 to 15 seconds
Yea its me Again With the
Modified Hero-
I selected the home key to get into recovery...after 10+ minutes of showing the HTC screen, I think there is something wrong. This goes back to the same issue when I originally attempted to install the CM ROM - it was supposed to reboot into recovery but instead restarted into a frozen HTC screen. What ele can I do? Can I just go back to original and try all over again? I had to take the battery out and reset the device...
After Fastbooting, I lost network access and can't get into the marketplace...When I go into ROM manager to restore the backup, it just sits and looks like it is working on it...How long should this take? Is 10 min too long?
So your able to boot into your rom right.??? So just go to rom manger and choose flash alternate recovery. Place a different recovery on your sd and flash it. Or just flash the clockwork recovery. Basically I think you need to get into recovery first.
Yea its me Again With the
Modified Hero-
I think you're right as far as getting into recovery being the key...Since my network is down, I had to try "Flash Alternative Recovery," but it showed "An error occurred while flashing your recovery" ...Is there another alternative to getting a new recovery installed?
My network connection just started working...I had to uncheck and recheck the connect to network...Clockwork recovery finally worked and I was able to install 6.0 and the Google apps...Thanks for all of your help! I do have one additional question - How do I set up my apps to store on the sd card instead of the internal memory? Thanks again
I'm having a similar issue as OP.
This is my first time trying to load CM7 on my Hero CDMA. I rooted my phone successfully and then installed Amon_Ra's Recovery (v1.6.2) and wiped the data/Dalvik-cache and then flashed CM7 and Google Apps. Everything seemed to install without problem.
However, when I reboot the device it doesn't get past the initial "HTC" screen.
I then attempted to use adb to look at the logs but when I boot into recovery mode and enable USB mode, the computer doesn't recognize an HTC device/serial:
c:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
000000000000 recovery
and trying to access the logs or run shell commands through adb fails.
It's been stuck on the "HTC" logo for 10 minutes; I'm not sure if I just need to wait it out or if something has gone awry. Did I just brick my phone or can this be salvaged?
I managed to flash whatever I had backed up from nandroid, but it's incredibly unstable. Took several resets and almost an hour stuck on the "HTC" splash screen before booting. I have missed calls and can make them, which is a good sign, but I'm repeatedly hit with an error "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".
I can't post pastebin links since I'm new, but I have dumps of logcat and /proc/last_kmsg.
At this point I'd be happy to either get CM working OR revert back to a stable stock ROM.
How did you root ???
Also what's your baseband/ radio ??
Also what hboot are you currently on ??
Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I needed to have a phone so I took it back to Sprint and they were able to do a factory reset. So while I'm glad it's not bricked, I'd prefer to have a better ROM on here.
I rooted using the following set of commands:
adb push asroot2 /data/local/
adb shell
chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/bin
cat sh > su
chmod 4755 su
Firmware version 1.5
Baseband version: 1.04.01.09.21
Kernel version: 2.6.27-533ce29d [email protected]
Build number: 1.56.651.2 CL85027 release-keys
Software version: 1.56.651.2
Hardware version: 0002
I'm not sure how to find out the hboot version.
When you first rooted or before did you make a backup/nandroid ?? Also after you rooted did you flash a recovery ??
