Do any of the G1 roms include... - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

...Flash or streaming wma decoding capabilities?

Yes hero roms have flash 9 atm.

Thanks for your reply.
Do you have any idea if anyone has released a wma decoder and built that into any of the roms? The G1 rom does support wma files, however it doesn't support streaming windows media audio which is one of my biggest bugbears about the G1 at present.

Don't think anyone has.. I'm not even sure what that is.. what does it do?

its something that can stream windows media audio files....you cant make it any simpler than that
I dont know of any app/rom of now that supports it

Just record the streaming wma on your computer and transfer over the file into your g1?

but that defies the point if he wants live streaming

Does anybody has problems with WMP 10?

Hi, let me ask you guys a question. Does anybody of you guys that have upgraded it to Windows Media Player 10, have any problems running it?. I been having problems when I open certain files, specially WMV and MP3, I though it was maybe a corrupt codec or something, but I recently did a fresh install of the Windows Media Edition 2005 on my laptop, and its been doing the same thing. It sucks cause I can't use the media player as I would want too. the files even play on my MDAII but the player crashes on my PC when I play these files!. I tried to find the solution, but I don't really know what's doing that, I even tried to run the Kazaa lite Mega codec pack, to see if it was a missing codec or something, same thing. Anybody has the same problems?, and/or have any solutions?

No problems so far Bro as a matter of fact I use WMP for loads of medias even DivX for example without having to install any third party codecs.
My guess is as good as yours - reinstall WMP10.
wmp 10 seems to have just ****ed my comp over all together!
Yo Yorch,
did u manage to fix your problem with wmp10?? because i got the same thing happening to mine..
Sounds like you either have a corrupted module in your graphics card drivers, your DirectX installation is a little screwy (Windows Media Player will try and use both to hardware-accelerate video decoding), or your Windows Media installation has gone a little screwy.
Either or. Maybe all three. I hate WMP10, I've so far avoided using it on my PC and I'm sticking with WMP9 for the time being - I still use Media Player 6.4 for all my proper video watching though
If you're having problems with codecs, it sounds actually like there could be a problem with your codec store too. You shouldn't use those codec packs, they clutter up your PC with WAY too many useless codecs, they install so many different filters and third party decoders your machine WILL (and does) slow down from parsing them all, adding their entries into the registry, loading them, registering them... Zzz. Best to keep your installations to a minimum, and use something like VLC - which uses the opensource ffmpeg and other free, opensource decoding classes to decode pretty much anything that's thrown at it. http://videolan.org to download that (it's a totally brilliant piece of software if all else fails, at least as a temporary workaround until you get your WMP problem fixed).
Of course, you still have Media Player Classic as another option too, google for that one.

Camcorder record mpeg4 or wma?

Can the camcorder on the Dream record in mpeg4 or wma format?
If not, then is there a way to convert the native video using the phone, so I can then email the converted video immediately afterwards?
I very much doubt WMA will ever be able to record, Maybe a third party app can do mpeg4, As far as converting, best off taking it off sd card to a pc. I wonder if ffmpeg could run on android. but i would be afraid, and it would take 4 months to convert the video
I believe the camera records in .3gp
If you are on a hero build you have the option of mpeg4 or 3gp. If you are on cupcake it is just 3gp.
Thanks for your replies. Im on cupcake so just 3gp it looks like :-(
I wanted to make a short video and share it immediately via email to work colleagues (who dont have the luxury of a media player that can play 3gp, and work computers block all streaming video from the net, so uploading it somewhere is a non-starter).
I'm a novice but have flashed a few different roms onto my G1 - can anyone suggest a stable Hero build that's not too laggy and awful (as I gather most of them are)?

JACHero and TouchFlow 3D are the ones to go to. If the co workers are able to download anything just tell them to download vlc player it has all codecs built in.

I'll look into these roms, thanks.
Unfortunately my colleagues can't install anything on the work computers, so VLC player is out of the question.
Sorry, just noticed you said that Youtube wouldn't be an option. You could still try Qik - perhaps it's not blocked. I'll leave my post as is...
Another option would be to use the YouTube upload option and then just send them the Youtube link to the video.
Or, if you'd rather keep the file from public viewing, you can use the "Qik" app and upload it to a private Qik file and provide them with the password.
You wouldn't have to worry about converting the video at all that way and everyone could play it.
Depending on the length of the video you might be able to send it to them as an MMS.. I'm pretty sure .3gp is a standard format.
Another thing to consider, if they have quicktime installed on their computers it *might* be able to play the .3gp... well, let me rephrase that, it should play it, but might not have the proper codec for the video so it may come through as audio only, but it's worth trying anyway

I tried this player it doesn't work.
I agree. I don't have video, but audio works fine.
Can anyone make -
RealPlayer
Version 11
work on our phones????
I think you won't get any software work with new Real Player as the codec driver never release to Windows Media Platform so far, i heard is becoz due to the license agreement between Nokia and Real. Correct me if i m wrong, i also hope i can play rmvb file in my phone instead wasting money to buy a device just for doing this.
i found some files and reg from somewhere and got rmvb to run on my fuze, but it is really slow. Not sure if it's worth it. PM me your email and i could send you the files.

WMA support?

Are there any ROM versions out there that supports WMA audio files please? (is it included in Froyo at all?). all my music is in WMA format - I i don't really want to re-rip it, or degrade it by further by running a format conversion program on it.
(I'm being lazy!). I new I shouldn't have been suckered by the Ms hype when I starting ripping stuff for my MS windows phone all those years ago :-(
Thx
Graham
I used to be able to play wma files w/ CM rom.....unfortunately it's still not supported in Froyo....
I don't suppose there is an apk file that provides the capability its there? I cant see anything on the market.

[Q] tcpmp or alike for hd7?

Dont think that this has been discussed before so I am wondering if we can have all formats of video and audio on this phone and playable like it used to be with the wm6 phones with tcpmp.
Procedure would be to use the hd7 as usb drive and then drop the avi, mkv, flv files to the phone to avoid zune as it doesnt accept anything besides mp4 etc.
Then i believe wm7 requires special apps? so we cant use .cab?
Also i was wondering how do i get tomtom on this?
Sorry i am completely lost with the wm7 and need help.
zune will autoconvert many videos. I haven't had any trouble with videos on my hd7 not playing, just drag and drop and it should make it work.
