What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.

But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!
It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

The most thing about Android that is Linux based is it's kernel but a lot of it is actually Java, especially the apps.

Yeah, you can chop, sample, mix, effects, and just about anything else you can do with a full sized drum machine. I know this is an extremely complex app, so chances are, we're SOL. but here's to wishful thinkin!!!
Yes this could be good, plug your TP into a mixer, brings a whole new capability to the device.
I also think though, that to port such an app would be an enormous task.
+1 on wishful thinking
Close thread
I think it's safe to say we can go ahead & close this thread. It's not getting too much interest, so i'm assuming it's either damn near impossible to port, or none of the dev's are really willing to give it a shot. Hopefully someone will drop a similar program from WM.
can somebody please port this i need this in my life.

no my friend... while these are all nice apps, they are NOT beat maker. None of the afore mentioned apps have a full functioning drum machine built into it. Not to mention, NONE of the apps allow for 3rd party plug-ins like Pro-Tools export, rewire, t-racks, etc. Beat Maker is the real deal. I'm seriously debating buying a iTouch SIMPLY for this app!!
Maybe you should contact the maker of the App and see if he would port it himself. Maybe he's already making a WM version to sell on the Windows Marketplace.
For the record, I would also be willing to pay to get a port of this app.

damn, why on EARTH didn't i think of this myself?! i might have to look into this.
i have this app "phoenix Studios" and i love it but its not vga and i stop using it because i didnt have enought memory to keep it going on my old ppc6700.
i almost got an iphone just to get that drum machine apps.
Wouldn't the fact that Raphaels do not have a capacitive touchscreen really hinder this Apps original functionality/awesomeness?
Our touch screens are resistive, and are thus incapable of multitouch like an iphone or g1 for example. (I have seen a demo of multitouch on a supposedly resistive screen around on the nets, but never seen a resistive device with multitouch capabilities released) http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/19/stantums-mind-blowing-multitouch-interface-on-video/ here's the vid
Just a thought, hope your dreams aren't too dashed.
no need to multitap and such.. we just gotta contact the maker of beatmaker and see if hes brewing a version for WM6.1 platforms!
so is this thing ported yet?
Omniano the Band, is the closest thing to date. The other would be Little Snazzy Drummer, which has a free Lite version as well as a paid version. Neither of these are quite as complex as the app. you mentioned, though I find them both very usable and entertaining.
I have seen alot of iphone commercials on tv and the "there's an app for that" commercials bother me because I know that there are android programs that can do exactly the same thing. So I thought it was time for a thread where we list the iphone app and the android app that serves the same purpose. Ready? Let's Go

It's a shame there isn't any real advertising standards, or they aren't upheld in the US, there is so many lies I've more or less given up being annoyed about it any more.
Apple has already had advertising yanked off UK TV because the govt body said that it wasn't truthful.
What? You mean that I have the real, not watered down, not mobile internet...but no flash? I am always a little happy when the UK takes Apple to task for false advertising. It makes me feel warm and happy...lol
How about instead of "...there's an app for that" we put together "there's not an app for that, unless you have android..."

Overclock Widget

i'm waiting for Trapster, so i can finally say...There's an app for that haha

I can block ads on my phone with AdFree, I can run apps in the background, the app I'm running doesn't get killed because of an incoming phone call.
As one of my co-workers who abandoned an iPhone and got a G1 after he saw mine......
"Yeah, there's an app for that.....only it doesn't cost anything on Android."
rofl yeah the only place the i phone as us beats is the games. but emulators are changing that i my opinion.
Iphone interface?
Theres an app for that.
I showed Nesroid to an iPhone user of a coworker a couple weeks ago and he said "that emulator runs better than mine."

Considering the actual OS is built on top of BSD, does that mean BSD is the worlds most advanced operating system?
Actually does anyone know if there is an app that can hook into a desktop PC/laptop and you can use the keyboard on it to type into the GUI on android?

Exactly. It just annoys me so much that they are actually allowed to say that. I will never get locked into Apple's business model like that. When people told me they had to 'learn' Facebook's layout I laughed.

That is an interesting idea actually. We all know Apple's design ideas are pretty good, and some android phones you don't want to take out of your pocket. But on the other hand, Android is a great system, and iOS...not so much. So you can have 2 different phones from that. One sexy phone with awesome OS, or an Ugly one with crap OS. Hark at him, with his fancy new 80s cube puzzle avatar!
I think jaszek has the right idea, I mean its not as though apple even make their phones or components, so all it would take is a logo swap at foxconn and a optimised version of android and BAM. of course the ifanboys would then complain about the poor build quality as it no longer has a partially eaten fruit logo on the back.
In the real world.. If you're just looking for an android that is aesthetically pleasing.. Motorola seem to be doing a good job on that front. My Atrix looks smart, and the new razr is all fancy!
just buy a samsung, it looks like the iphone and it runs android
I'll only put it this way- iOS' power management, maybe battery itself, everything else android / non-Applicular origin. Lets face it, right now, our beloved toys only lack that functional amount of battery life to be, well, functional and reliable.

I have heard of the iDroid project, but it's dead... and extremely buggy.
a discussion can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/228hbo/how_can_we_get_the_idroid_project_rebooted/
Ok, I'm not sure why you resurrected a thread that has been dead for over 2.5 years but I think it's time to officially kill it.
When I was looking for x86 stuff today, I came across this "project" called bootdroid that is supposedly a guy coming along in his port of iOS to Android (blog of updates is here: http://bootdroid.blogspot.com/ code page here: http://code.google.com/p/bootdroid/).
It amazes me how people think that, with all the issues we have with hardware acceleration, audio, and camera drivers with every OS update that SWITCHING to a completely different system wouldn't be out of the question.
Yes, for people still questioning, it IS fake. You're NEVER going to be able to run iOS natively on an Android device period. Likewise, you can barely get Android to recognize the iOS hardware.
A few things to note:
1) He's spamming it all over the place for SEO reasons,
2) The iPhone's/iPads interface images are static. They don't just "fit" into any given screen size, a reason why we can't have DPI changers like Android has. You'd have to totally recode the system to do what he's trying to make you THINK he's doing. He says he's using the iPad version... Have you ever tried using iPad apps on the iPhone? Well, it shows you only 4/100th of the screen. Yes, I have tried, and so have a few others.
3) He used old web app sample code that comes with Xcode. It's not even iOS5:
iOS4:

Specifically, you can tell by the edges. His Push Notifications are also thick:
So move along now, nothing to see here.
Ga niet zomaar haten...
Seriously he is already been working on this project since ios 4 was still the latest and greatest. I don't know if you are an iPhone user or on the Android side but this is real. He has been providing very true ans interesting topics on his blogspot and I would like to see your face when an alpha build comes out.
People stop hating on this project please. Maybe this is fake but then again why would he been keeping the site alive for that long ? Do you think that someone that is wanting to say brick our devices is going to say don't promote this to much because the maker of thz port could be sued by Apple for the copyright things.
This is probably the last thing that Apple is waiting on, people using their (good and smooth with great exclusive apps) software on hardware that is better and faster and that fill better the needs of certain people. ( I don't like the iPhone's sound quality, display size, aspect ratio, glass that breaks rapidly...).
I have been an iPhone user since they came out. I also have Android devices. There are pros and cons with both.
I've managed to snag the GUI images that are available with the iOS 5 firmware and optimized it for the Android device I'm working with. I successfully built a Test App (GUI) in Xcode and added it as a system application to the iOS firmware currently running on my Android device.

Again... That is NOT iOS5. I know how it looks like, and I know how Xcode looks and works.
Another thing, since iOS is basically OS X, what does this mean for driver support? There isn't a driver for any internal Android hardware that also works in OS X.
Lastly, just because it's better hardware doesn't mean the software will work better/faster on it. Being that Androids are mostly made out of plastic will most likely result in heating issues. The new iPad can hardly handle it.
Hunch
Well I noticed on the Bootdroid blog, that someone has released code for Bootdroid.
HTML:
https://github.com/Peter42/BootDroid
However, what we do not know is what the files actually do. I have tested it myself and... well... they do nothing that I can actually tell apart from run an app, which itself, does nothing? :S
However both the software and the app seems to be virus free, according to ESET and Lookout.
Is there any developers wishing to strip down these files, and have a little look inside to see what they do?
Thanks,
TyphoonScotland
The only big file there is U2WIN.exe which is 380MB. I won't download it and try it myself, so i don't know what that is or does.
But i find it strange that there's no videos of this. I would think that a lot of people would try this and post some videos on YouTube. But nope, no videos whatsoever.

SOURCE : Kickedface
RIM CEO Thorsten Heins took to the stage to announce that RIM will be seeding Dev Alpha devices to developers for app testing. The device in question is not a commercial handset--in fact, it doesn't even work as a phone. Source : Asia Cnet
Heins, who was appointed CEO three months ago, pointed out that RIM is "making incredible progress on BB 10". He gave a quick onstage demo of what's in store for BB 10:
Notifications
The new notifications feature uses a swiping motion RIM calls "glancing". In any app, you can access your notifications simply by swiping sideways and keeping your finger on the screen. This brings up the notifications sidebar, and you can decide whether to continue or exit. During the onstage demo, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins noted that the swiping gesture flows across up to three applications back.
For the "glancing" feature to work, apps continue running realtime in the background and are not killed. We're a little worried about how this feature will affect battery life, though.
Keyboard
According to RIM's head of software portfolio, Vivek Bhardwaj, the new onscreen keyboard uses a "modelling algorithm" that's tailored to the user. Aesthetically, it's designed to look like the BB keyboard, complete with its renowned frets.
Bhardwaj's team must have gleaned some inspiration from Swype, because the new keyboard uses various intuitive gestures--for instance, swiping up and down for numbers and symbols, and backwards to delete words. While you're typing, word suggestions appear above the letters and you can swipe them upwards to add them to the message body. This is probably a lot faster than typing on a typical touchscreen device, but whether diehard BlackBerry users will consider it a worthy replacement for the company's famous physical keyboard remains to be seen.
Camera
RIM's current crop of BB 7 devices use continuous autofocus and hence lack a tap to focus function. BB 10 OS brings with it the ability to tap anywhere on the screen to focus and then shoot a picture.
That's not the most exciting and innovative feature of the camera app, though--it's the ability to go back "in time" to catch the perfect moment that caused the crowd to gasp audibly. For example, if you've captured the perfect photo but find that it's ruined by someone who is blinking, you can scroll a few frames forward or backward to the suitable moment. This saves the trouble of having your subject pose for another picture.
RIM also shared the stage with some developers, who showed off native BB 10 apps that have already been created. For example, Gameloft will have 11 games available on the platform when it's made available, and Pixelmags promised 10 free minutes of reading each month for its stable of e-magazines.
RIM is placing all its bets on the next-generation operating system (OS) to pull it out of its woes. It needs to restore investor and consumer confidence, as well as flagging smartphone sales. Based on what we've seen of BB 10 so far--as well as developers' works--there may be hope for the beleaguered company after all.
Stay tuned for more coverage from BlackBerry World coming soon.
Soooo....anyone having a bash at replicating the BB10 call screen as in the video? See 0:16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEPYYo0-gfc
please anyone say?
In india,bb jam is on july 4th isn't it......so if we go to jam,can we get one alpha device?
NOTE:I HAVE 2 APPS ON BB APPWORLD.i am in kerala, maybe i will be coming to delhi
for bb 10 jam.....please reply
RIM is betting everything on BB 10, since the last couple of years they have been really quiet and releasing devices that are nothing to get exited, the hardware has been top quality but boring OS, by giving developers test devices they are trying to get developers on their side and work on their platform, it is strange how things work out guess that what makes an OS successful is the community that is behind it, I really loved web OS but never took off for a lot of reasons, so let's wait and see only time will tell if BB10 is a winner or not.....noob comment
That mock-up looks A LOT like an iPhone; just saying, first thing that came to mind. Anyway, seems like it has potential for people who want something that's clean and functional. I'm curious at least. Looks pretty decent. Not anything I'd pick up because it will just never have the customization abilities of Android, but might be something I'd recommend to friends, something I still can't really say for WP or Apple to some extent.
