hello people....is there any way (well im sure theres a way but i just dont know how to do it) to get the camera button to change the song to the next one in the music player app without having to unlock the screen and tap the next button?
i think it would be useful for when i connect my phone to my car stereo and when im using the phones loud speaker
anybody?.....i know at least 45 ppl have viewed this....not 1 answer?
.........................................................
Honestly, this seems like a pretty good idea... I always listen to my music on my phone while I'm riding the bus to school at like 6:30 in the morning and I get some sleep in then. It would be kinda nice to be able to skip a song without having to actually open my eyes and get them to not burn out when I look at my phone screen and try to find the "Next Track" button
I'm pretty sure that its just as simple as making a dummy app that calls an Intent to the Music app to skip to the next track, but I don't really know what to do :-(
That's a good idea, but if it's possible make it like how blackberries have it, you just hold onto the volume up to go to the next track, and you hold on the volume down to go back a track.

Boy, I got a lot of heat from asking this question. But what I got was that you can't change some of the buttons cause its something or other.
They told me that you can just double press the HTC button thing on the headset.

It requires remapping of keys, and it might break some things, I'm not sure how this could be done easily though. If you want to not have to unlock hero has controls on the lockscreen.

Hi,
I've had my Tilt for about a month and a half now. I've taken very good care of it (or so i thought) and have never dropped it and actually keep it in a digital camera case when i carry it around.... anyways, the other day i noticed that when i pressed down on the OK softkey on the front of my tilt, it actually had a double-click "ability" just like the camera button on the side of teh device... a softer push on the OK softkey just activates the OK feature.. but if i press down just a little bit harder, the OK key actually activates the End Call feature, i know this b/c i can hear the same beep when pressing down on the OK key that i hear when i press the end call key from the home screen... ive also tried it during a call and it does end the call as well...
anyways, i went down to my local at&t to see if i could get it replaced, well they gave me the number to call since its been over a month... now i came home and started reading about how at&t just sends u a refurb... and with all the random bugs these things can have... im wondering if i should just suck it up and keep the Tilt i have... rather than take the chance with a refurb from at&t. I found numerous posts where people had to send back their refurbs 5 or 6 times until they got one that didnt have some quirky problem...
The button problem hasn't really bothered me or caused any problems, other than the fact that its a 1 and a half month old $400 device....
I would like to get some oppinions from people on what to do in my situation.. is getting an at&t refurb worth the risk? Other than this button thing, my i've had no other problems with my Tilt.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...
Thanks much,
Shane
So just to confirm... the OK button Ends a call when pressed in fully?
yes, that is exactly right.. so i mean it really only would affect me if i was using the speakerphone and going through menus.. i guess it could accidentally end the call...
no recommendations?

Hi:
Here is my 2 cents. I had a problem with my Tilt's speaker phone. I called and they sent me a NEW one (not refurb). The new one still had the same problem. Called again, and got another new one (not a refurb). Still had the same problem. I ended up keeping my original phone, because if I was going to be stuck with the bad speakerphone anyway, I figured I'd keep the phone I already have configured to my liking. I may one day call and try another one, since as I said I still have the original problem, but for now am sick of talking to warranty replacement department lol. They are actually pretty nice and helpful, much more so than in other departments, but there is ALWAYS time to wait on hold.
So, nice story, but here's my advice. I honestly don't think AT&T has refurbs yet. I think the phone is so new they are still sending out new replacemt units. At least that was my experience. One of the two replcaements even came in the full retail packaging, so I now have 2 batteries, 2 chargers etc...
I say you have nothing to lose, call them, and have them send you a replacement. If you don't like it/think it's buggy. or simply decide to keep your original, just send them back the replacement. I specifically asked if this was allowed, and they told me that as long as they get back a phone, it doesn't matter which on it is.
thats a great idea, thanks for the background info.. ill def give this a try.. like u said if i dont like the one i get ill just send it back. Thanks again.
so i can press the ok key on my tilt and if i press it with the meat of my thumb it will only click once, if i press it with the tip of my thumb (meat and fingernail), i do get the second click from the end key. the windows key does not do this with the talk key. without opening it up i would say its a design issue with the phone, and replacing it wont matter. i wonder if the real kaisers do this? or if its a design change in the tilt.
Photon, that is EXACTLY the problem i am having.. literally the way u described it with the thumb/fingernail is just how mine acts.. i wonder if this is indeed a problem that many of the tilts have...?

I have a Tilt, and I tried to reproduce this, but it didn't seem to do it for me. Of course I should add, I am a female, so my hands are probably much smaller than the gentlemen here
You're probably pressing the End button since they have the same cap.
Yeah I never really had a problem with it, but mine does the same thing. Just try to press the bottom of the ok button. It only seems to happen when I press it near the top. Whenever I end up opening my tilt I will rig it, but I'm not gonna open it just to fix this small issue.
I just realize that mine does the same thing. But I need to pres it with a really heavy preasure so its not gona happen by accident. Look like you guys are little bit stronger with your fingers
just wanted to say thanks again to everyone else thats replied.. it seems like this is indeed somewhat of a common problem, but like a few of you have said.. i prob just noticed it b/c i just happen to push down really hard on it one time, and ever since then its just bothered me... anyways, i do appreciate everyones replys/comments.
Thanks!
Hello all,
Coming from an old instinct sprint phone, I used to love setting custom ringtone song clips as my text ringer, and when they'd come in i'd just hit the side button to silence it. Now, on the Android I can't seem to do that? Is there any work around for this? It allows me to silence a call coming in, but not for a text message. Thanks for anyone's help!!
It should silence text as well, mine does.
Hm..
weird.
Hmm...you know...when i first got the phone i was pretty sure i did it when i tested ringtones. Quick question though...I flashed to Cynagen's rom bout a month ago, 1.6 firmware. does that have anything to do w/ it?

Lol ya i do that already, but for example when i'm holding my son's hand through the toy isle (we've all been through something similiar!) i can't turn my screen on and do that, i'd simply like to hit that side volume button to shut it up. Any programs or tweaks that can help solve this?
still looking for help...
aaah its driving me crazy, it seems like no one else has this issue?
im not really sure no more but i think mine silenced it with he back button even if the screen was off or maybe it was the side button but i cant try no more since my phone is dead now but try it not really sure
Change the mp3 used as a ring tone, maybe that will fix it? Puzzled myself.. good luck

the format of my ringtone is .mp3, i've tried .wav also and both do the same. do you think maybe another file extension would fix it?

T-Mobile is offering the myTouch3G for 99.99 without rebates. Only requires 2 years agreement on Even More plans or 399.99 on EvenMore Plus plans (Probably not the best deal but if you want one brand spanking new). Might wana try this if you dont care about a physical keyboard, pretty sure Cyanogen works with it.. Valid on Black, Merlot or White

I'm pretty annoyed with the beep that my tattoo makes every time a call ends. Now that we have root, has anyone figured which files do we need to edit/delete so we can getr rid of that obnoxious sound? It's not possible to disable it in the Settings, it's there even when Silent mode is enabled.
Edit: Explanation: immediately the other person answers the call, my phone vibrates. That's what I'm referring to as a before-the-call sound.
UPDATE: If anyone wants to disable the welcome screen sound (when the green creature dances around), go to

it surely will drain considerable amount of battery from tattoo... first of all we are worried that battery back up is not that good (1100 mah)...
@coolbits: r u on a cost cutting mode ??? you think we can reduce the call costs from this ??? what will we do if we come to know that other person hung up the phone or has recieved our call ????
r you so busy so that you make a call and continue working on other things till that person recieves your call ????
please dont get offended by this, all i am saying this is its worthless & with weak battery, this function was not called for..... thats all. i dont have any intention of hurting anyone's sentiments....
i thought of giving you the reasons what we all are thinking about that feature.....
hope someday we have he liberty to choose whether we want it on tattoo or not... otherwise it will not make it as a cool feature on tattoo....
No but it's better not to hold the phone near your head while connecting as at that time it uses more power.
This has nothing to do with any cost and quick vibrate on answer will not drain your battery...
yeah the vibration is cool for me too, but some people might want to disable that too. personally, i'd disable the hang-up tone - it seems really useless as i know when i hang up, lol. i mean, i press the red button and all.
I agree on coolbits on this one. I find the vibrating a very well thought feature. Its not abt cost or anything its just helpful, a little touch that makes life easier .
But we r getting off topic here. If someone could just find out how to modify these would b nice. Theres no point convincing each other that its nice or not because itll be different for each of us.

well said yash09... that was the point i was making out of this topic.... we should have an option of enabling/disabling it... then we can agree that its a customised option for all.....
the vibration is ok but the hung up tone that continues after i hung up is annoying...
i updated the first post because i found a way to disable another annoying system sound.
i am still getting that boot sound even after i deleted that file... what to do ???
All, I know that galaxy doesnt have dedicated hard buttons for accept and cancel calls but I didnt think it will be so painful to use. If I am in any application, I need to press center button to come to home screen and then press the phone icon from dock and then with many clicks I finally call someone. Any way to change this. ?
I wish there was some substitute for that Green button in galaxy. I really miss hitting the green button in any application and getting to the phone app to start dialing
Best is if there could be a third party phone app that we could use. Does anybody have it. Can someone suggest a few names.
Thanks for your help.
No one ?
I really can't believe everybody is happy with this painful procedure of calling someone. Most of the times when I center press, and click on phone on the doc, it goes to call history. So i again have to click one tab and then start dialing. Too much of work.
To make it worse, I haven't yet found a good way of customizing my bluetooth button to launch a voice dialer. It just simply calls the last person I called - thats it.
Atleast is there a way that you know to customise the bluetooth button to start Vlingo or something like that.
This becomes a major painpoint while driving.
Anyone ! ?
Thanks.
what model of sgs are you using !?
i'm having a little hard time on understanding the issue ...
this is a i9000 forum.
maybe you shold post the q' on american models forums here on xda ..
I think they've got the buttons and stuff
software are applicable to all versions of SGS, to all adroid actually
except for some very hardware specific softwares
only ROMs are specific to country releases
So you are finding it painful to click a few buttons... yet you still got a smart phone, which requires you to devote hours in order to fully explore its potential.
Far as I know, there's no way around this.

I have an unbranded i9000 only which does not have a dedicated call button. The only way to access thee phone app is to hit the center vuitton and then access the phone icon on the dock.
True, I've spent hours and hours on the phone understanding and customizing it, but doing this calling process by left handing while driving is a problem. Say isn't my sat nav on and need to call someone while driving. So that means tapping center button, hitting phone icon, hitting keypad tab and then dialing the buttons.that's the problem.

I too want a dedicated button. But for me its the end call button. It just takes a few secs to hang up but annoying as I need to wait for screen to wake up then unlag. And lots of time I just plan forget. Mind u I know I can use power as hang up but that also has other problems

The volume rocker is very loose on the HD7. Looking to see if anyone else has this issue? In addition the camera button is extremely hard to push. Do other HD7 owners see the same?
Thanks
Matt
I think this is generally how most of this first batch of phones has been, whether thats just rush manufacturing, or by design, I don't know. I have read the issue in a number of reviews.
That being said, my volume rocker moves very easily, and my camera button can sometimes be hard to press (sometimes, it's very easy). Though I haven't found it hard enough to bother me. I'm guessing it has been made hard to press so that you cannot accidentally activate the camera and take photos of the inside of your pockets, as I heard some other phones do that.
My volume rocker is not loose, but the camera button takes a bit of pushing, doesn't bother me though.
very loose when i get a text it shakes bull crap i order my phone from the the cancel department so they have to send it in the mail
Mines perfect, none of the buttons dont move sideways at all. They all wobbled on my HD2 though.
I find the build quality of my HD7 is much better than that of the three HD2s I went though, and I know of 2 other people who have HD7s and theres are all good too. (All O2 HD7s)
Then i am going to have them send me a new one but overall looks like i might be going back to my n1. but i got a good deal on this phone for 149.99 with no rebates and the $20 data plan from good old tmobile.
My volume rocker is nice and loose.

okay. I'm going there tomorrow so I'll post back here after then.
calling them to get a new one i order online from the loyalty department
Mine is extremely loose I even went back to return it but the only one they had left brand new out the box was loose as well. I still have 12 days gonna wait for the next batch then go swap it out. I didnt pay 500 bucks for a loose volume rocker!!
Well, I went to the store today, and all their other phones also had loose volume rockers. But I bought a case which covers the volume rocker with a little rubber overlay, so I don't even notice if it's loose or not!
i myself got an hd7 with a real loose volume rocker and had it exchanged there are quite a few of them out threre and shouldnt be like tthat......they opened 5 of them untill i got one without the loose rocker
I e-mailed HTC about the volume rocker and asked if it was loose by design or if they were aware. Hopefully this is not by design.
If HTC tells me that my volume rocker should not be loose, I'll be taking it back to the T-Mobile store for a replacement.
Response from HTC:
Dear [person],
I understand that you have a HTC HD7 device and the volume rocker button is very loose in your device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device. You may want to take your device to your local carrier store and compare it to another HD7 device. The volume rocker should not be that loose that is moves when you shake the device. Your carrier should be able to repair or replace your device if needed.

Lots of the ones in the store are loose, but hopefully you can find one that isn't. I actually kept mine, and I have a case around the phone which covers the rocker. Now I dont even notice if it's loose or not.
Yeah heading back to the T-Mobile store now to exchange it. I hope to find one that isn't loose.
Update: Took mine back today and got a new one. The first phone we opened didn't have the loose rocker. Everything seems to be fine thus far. Much happier.
Got my HD7 yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was the loose volume rocker. It's pretty loose to the point where every time I use the phone it would jiggle. I'm going to take it to the T-Mobile store later for an exchange, so hopefully the first one I get will be good. It bothers me because all of the phones are sealed, so I'm not sure how many phones they'll be willing to go through until I get a good one.
Same here. Volume rocker really loose that picking up the phone causes it to jingle. Though I'm not bothered about replacing it.
