my friends previous G1 met with with an unfortunate end so i helped her go to craigslist to find another one to replace it. the one she bought had a signal for all of about a minute (enough to enter her gmail info to register it the phone) she made 1 call to make sure that it was capable of performing that and paid. btw the call dropped but she didn't think anything of it. ever since that point shes had ZERO signal except one point after which it completely disappeared. she's not all that technical and i live in a different state plus i'm not too familiar with the android side of the house.
i know that she hasn't tried to flash a new anything but i don't know about the previous owner so i what i'm asking is, is there anything he could have done to the phone that would leave it in perfect working order (wifi/bt/os boots) but only affect the cellular radio? and if so is there anyway to fix it? push comes to shove i'll have her mail me the phone and i'll do all the flashing or whatever it needs.
i'm not sure what all info you'd need but i had her go into the bootloader and send me the info that appears at the bottom of the screen.

let me know else you need and if there's a way to bypass the login screen (i searched)
please, any help would be appreciated.
hi.
what you meant by bypass the login screen?
Is it the signing in of gmail account?
Well something may be wrong with the radio (hopefully the software one)
A potential fix would be to reflash the ROM which has the updated radio following the instructions here
However flash the Cupcake update as that has the actual radio update located here.
If that doesn't work or it wont let you, you *MAY* have to root. (PM me if you need a little more help/clarification

i bought a used g1 no physical problems took it into a shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it internally so im guessing its a software issue....dont know if this guy i bought it from tried to mess with root and messed something up but im thinking its some sort of software stuff....can anyone PLEASE help!?!?!?!?! i either get this phone fixed or keep using my nokia that seems like its from 1998 and its killing me!!!!!!
What are the stats of the phone? You can check the versions in the settings\about phone area. Model #, Firmware version, Baseband version, kernel version and build number information would be helpful.
Is it already rooted? If not, you may want to go ahead and start reading up on the root process. Some of the newer builds may or may not help the issue. But if it isn't rooted and you arent getting a signal, it very well may be a network issue. Also, does your phone service have a data plan? Has the phone gone through and passed all of the sign-in procedure? (being from another country, I am not sure what all you have to do to activate your phone) Sim card good?
thats the problem i did a factory reset to input my gmail info and now i cant get past the damn activation screen! ive been through all the customer support through tmo and cant figure anything out!!! im goin crazy
also ive found this webpage http://developer.htc.com/adp.html that has recovery, system and radio images from htc and every time i try one of them it comes up and says no signature or no verification.......not sure what to do

you cant apply those because your phone is not rooted. learn what your doing without randomly flashing everything that can killed your phone. and yes, you can kill your phone permanently flashing the wrong **** (i.e radio/spl)
So this all started after I flashed Cyan4.2.4 on my G1, (I usually get 4 bars of 3g where I am ) and now I usually get that when I turn my phone on, but after a good 1-4 minutes, I have no service at all, I can't call anyone, and I have no contacts from sync. After another 5 minutes, I get full service, then it cuts out again after another 5 minutes.
When I try to search for available networks via wireless controls, it finds T-Mobile, and it connects, but still for only that 3-4 minutes, and it tries to sync, but I still have nothing.
I haven't dropped my phone, or opened it, or anything else that I think might mess up the internals of it, I tried flashing Dwang, cyan 4.2.3.1, and some other randomly picked roms to see if they work, and I get all the same things happening.
Is this something at T-Mobile? Is it my phone? Am I an idiot? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I rely on my phone for a lot of things.
Thanks.
It sounds like your SIM card is loosing conection with the terminals. Try opening up the back, and slipping a piece of a business card between the all plastic side of the SIM card and the housing, this will press it down into place better.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, go to your local shop and get a replacement SIM/test someone elses SIM first to see if it does the same thing.
I tried what you did, and testes someone elses sim card, but I still get the same problems.
I haven't dropped my phone or anything else that would mess up the internals.
Is there any way for me to revert back to the original (unrooted) firmware, I have the danger SPL, so I can't really downgrade that dreamingh file ( or whatever it is, IDR off hand ) Or is there a 1.6 version of that with the newest radio I can flash without worry? I want to see if it works on that...
Thanks for the help, I really hope it's not something internal, I can't really afford a new phone, and this one I got on ebay, so I'm sure T-Mobile won't help >.<
you can still flash the RC29 image w/ the haykuro SPL
You can also try Dwangs rom its 1.6
G'day all,
Thanks to all who post here; learned a lot from you guys as a lurker... Unfortunately y'all got me into trouble; and I can find lots of similar issues - but no resolution...
Got a Tmo G1 - worked great; then started having browser crashes... Followed the suggestion, and wiped to factory. Since then I've been having the "No Sim Card" error, it'll connect now and then, flipping in and out of airplane mode will bring it back for a little while. I have changed SIMs a few times now, we've got a few in the house - and it's definitely the phone; not the SIM.
The freezer trick does work temporarily - brings it back online for a good hour... But then it goes back to not staying connected...
I've tried the *#*#4636#*#* and flipping between WCDMA prefered and GSM only as a reset - just like airplane mode, lasts for a short time, then she cuts out. (Actually on that screen turning the radio off & on works better and faster).
Has anyone actually resolved this issue? I've got to guess that since my phone is bone stock, and a wipe initiated the problem; that this must be a setting issue; not a hardware issue?
Thanks in advance
Which ROM and what is your SPECS?
Unmolestered Sorry should have seen that one coming...

Sorry for too many question. What did you follow?
Not sure what you mean? Followed one of the 'tips and tricks' to wipe, but otherwise, the phone's as it was out of the box... Didn't really follow anything; as I haven't done much of anything to it...
Sorry missed understood you when you said you Followed the suggestion, and wiped to factory.
Let try this real quick see if you can find a piece of paper cut it to size of the sim. Stick it behind the sim card. Just in case if the sim is not making contact with the slot. I had that happens to one of my phone (different brand). And by doing that it fixed it.
Yeah didn't mention it but did try thickening the sim to make better contacts; tried sanding off the little nubs from the moulding process off to adjust how it sat... sliding in a rogers sim - it works fine in 2g? Seems like its a 3g issue?
Well I don't know what I did... But it's mostly resolved itself (as long as I turn it off at night).
Rather than leaving it in my pocket, was leaving it on my aluminum clipboard, working outside (barely above freezing last week), now it's just staying connected... Most of the time, like I said - if I leave it on overnight it's back to no sim by morning...
Wonder if there's a learning/self-adjusting on the radio???
Hey all I have rooted and S-off with moonshine and flashed This Rom to my Sprint Htc One. I then programmed it to work with page plus cellular, in which it was working great for about 3 days. I had gotten a text around 3:30AM & when I woke up the phone had NO signal, service, or data! Upon further examinations, I found that my settings to adjust the roaming features was GONE! The ESN checked out clear thru Sprint so I'm not worried about the phone being shut off or anything. Could this be an H-boot issue or what? I have since reinstalled the mentioned rom above but my settings are still gone. The pull down menu shows the Airplane mode to be on but it is NOT on anywhere else and I can't turn it off in the pull down menu. I hope this is my problem but I really need to know how to resolve it. I've tried to do a screenshot of the pull down menu but it grabs the home screen.
EDIT: I have resolved my issue. When I originally programmed my phone, I left the sim card from sprint in the phone and went with page plus. Evidently, with the sim in place, sprint was able to change some settings to shut off my radio. I found out thru sprint that the phone was activated on july 21st & deactivated on july 22nd. This gave them about 12 days to shut off my radio after deactivation. I went into cdmaws and found what they had changed, switched it back for a working radio again.

I will give this a try and here is a screenshot.. As you see the wifi still works but the radio has been disabled.
Edit: I completed the RUU and still have NO cell radio, wifi works fine. I've only had this phone 3 days before it stopped working and NEVER dropped it or abused it. I have read posts where some folks had the antenna wire come off but I'm thinking this is just what sprint is telling people. I don't see where there would be enough room inside the ONE for the wire to just "Fall Off"!
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Well I still have an Ipod like Htc One! No luck yet on restoring the cell radio and I'm kind of lost where to go from here. I'm guessing if the antenna wire came off, there would be no settings for roaming so I'll take it apart to see if that's the problem.
Help with NV items
I have tried every ruu and even went back to the 1.44 hboot to let my phone update itself to android 4.3. When I do the factory reset, my nv settings stay just as I programmed it to page plus. What I need is for someone to send me a copy of their NV items read thru cdmaws paid version or qpst, any means you have to read Please? I don't need or want any imsi or meid or personal info, just the nv items from a working phone. I'm really beginning to think that my phone needs to be replaced but I bought it from ebay and am not a sprint customer. If anyone knows how I could go about getting this replaced thru htc Please let me know but I would like to try the nv items first. If I messed up the phone then I'll fix it but I really think I have a hardware issue, otherwise I'd never think about a warranty.
Just out of curiosity, when you flashed the software to your phone and you lost your signal and settings, did the baseband on the phone show as "Unknown"? I get that from time to time, either due to incompatible software or a bad flash.
The phone actually worked great for about 3 dats and the baseband was and still is showing. I feel that I may need to send it in for warranty but I'd like to have the original nv items to flash first to see if my cell radio will work. The wifi works fine and I can change the radio in *#*#4636#*#* to anything I wish but that still doesn't give me reception. I've been flashing phones for 3 or 4 years & have seen the baseband show up as unknown but I've never lost cell radio until now. :crying:
" I don't see where there would be enough room inside the ONE for the wire to just "Fall Off"! "
Well it actually can. Not fall off literally but rather disconnect from its socket. This has actually been an issue with the HTC OneX's wifi antenna also.. If u check out this guide: http://www.slashgear.com/htc-one-teardown-proves-durability-a-top-priority-28275687/ you will see the black cable that goes from top to bottom and connects two pcbs. That's your culprit if indeed you have a hardware issue. What i would do if i were you is first find one of my carrier's antennae and go as close to it as possible and see if you get any reception at all (best chance i guess is in a subway station). I guess that once you're that close to a transmitter your circuitboard is sufficient antenna though i might be wrong. If i am right and you get reception than its hardware. If you dont get reception than the cause is uncertain..can be hardware, can be software.. Anyway, i wish you best of luck with fixing your problem!
Cheers!
Wish me luck, today I'm headed to the sprint store to see if the tech can find anything out for me.
Edit: No such luck! The guy told me that when the phone was deactivated thru sprint that the radio was shut down and if I got a contract to activate the phone, then it would work! Hmm I didn't buy that so I told him I programmed it to page plus which worked for a while & bla bla bla... No go. Does anyone know how or if I could send it back to HTC for repair?
Hi,
My wife has recently purchased an unbranded Mini 2 which has obviously come from overseas (we're in Australia). I was surprised to find that it has S-Off and the SuperCID already set; locked (not relocked) bootloader.
I'm new to all this stuff but would appreciate if anyone can offer advice:
- Should we be concerned about these settings? Could the phone be compromised?
- will it work ok here in Aus; in terms of OTA updates etc?
Also, the Tell HTC app specifies that it is a 'test device' - I have searched the forums and found that this is probably due to it being S-off, so I assume it would have to set to S-on to get rid of that.
Screenshot attached.
Any advice?
TIA

You shouldn't be much concerned about this. I don't believe that the phone was compromised in any way.
And OTA updates won't be a problem, you will get them at the same time as the region of the phone gets it. I myself have a phone from overseas and receive OTA updates.
#Aligarh is right. s-off its not a problem however you may have problem getting rid of htc app test. search the forum as others had similar problem with test device.
Thanks both for the replies.
Yes, I've seen some postings about the 'test device' - i think it seems like I'd need root to remove the relevant apps/files or presumably set it back to S-on. Is there any issue with setting S-on with a superCID? I thought i'd seen something to this effect somewhere (can't find it again now)...
Does anyone know what the device actually sends to HTC in this test mode?

I don't think there is a way to revert it to S-ON unless you want to open it up and use JTAG or something similar. A test device IMO would be sending bug reports and such if it actually does. Otherwise there should not be a problem at all.
