why does it say waiting for device? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a g1 and im trying to change my boot logo i have fastboot on my computer setup and everything the latest drivers for my g1 but when i try to change the boot image it says waiting for the device im in the fast boot on my phone and everything what is the problem!! I have the latest drivers the danger spl and my operating system is windows 7 pleasee help!!! I really want to change my bot image

I have the same problem.....I'm brand new to fastboot/adb. I was trying to flash a new boot image and I get the same thing....,."waiting for device".....any ideas?

Because the phone is slow to react, and fastboot is impatient...
But the real answer, I had this happen too. Where the standalone fastboot won't work, I had to use the one in the SDK

How do you use the one in sdk? Also I'd sorta like to know why it isnt workin so it dosent bug the hell out of me

I don't know WHY, I just know it didn't. Your going to need to download the Android sdk, then unzip. In the unzipped there should be a tools folder, shift+click in windows on it to start cmd there. Put the .rgb565 file in the tools folder and then do it

Cool I got it to work that way, thanks for the info.

noobs need help. I can't get the usb drivers works

I'm using Rogers HTC dream and i'm planning to get the cyannogen mod going.
well changing the spl is not a problem and my phone is running spl1.33.2005.
When i try to use to fastboot method from cyannogen's wiki
i can't get the usb drive works, it keeps saying that :"windows cannot install drivers". At first time i thought it is win7 64bit system's problem. Then i try to do it on a winxp machine, it didn't work either!
Thanks

lol thanks man. after few hours searching on the internet, i found out that many people have the same problem as i do.
when type in "fastboot devices", there is no "serial number" coming out, if you try "fastboot reboot", the cmd will stay on "waiting for devices".
This can be solved by downloading the android SDK package. Put the system.img and radio.img into it. try "fastboot" again.
For me it works, as soon as seeing the serial number on the cmd, i'm so happy^^.
well, the phone is faster in responding, but the available is reduced
In the stock rom I usually seeing 40MB available, but right now I only have 32MB?
That is to be expected because the rom installs some apps that you probably didn't have before. If you setup apps2sd it will move all your apps over to the sd card and free up lots of space. I have 77mb available space.

[Q] Failed executing command 12 NvError 0x12002

Hello all,
I am very new to the community of rooting and am completely lost. A friend of mine gave me this dell streak 7 because someone gave it to him and he was never able to get it to work. I am stuck at "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" If someone would possibly explain how I might go about fixing this and using it with it's maximum potential I would appreciate it very much. Now although I am very tech savvy I don't have the slightest clue about rooting or loading custom roms so I will have to be talked to like a child until I get comfortable. As of now I have connected the streak to my computer but have yet to have it recognized. That's pretty much as far as I have gotten. I do have a 32gb SD card as well if it needs to be used in the process somehow.
Thanks for all everyone's time and help

ok so, while waiting for a response from someone on here I was playing around with it and realized that the first step i was missing was getting the computer to recognize the tablet. I never had the correct drivers installed and I was having a hard time getting windows to recognize the drivers.
Anyway I am finally able to get the drivers into windows and now I am able to control the device from the command prompt on the computer.
What is my next step? how do i load the rom into the device ? and which one is the best to use for this one ?
I'm thinking the last person who had this device messed it up very badly and now all it wants to do is go into fasboot mode nothing else, i thought I had installed the (Clockwork mod recovery.img) S7-6.0.1.2.img into the recovery using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334487,
After i do that I says done. but nothing happens on the device after is says "Flashing StorMgr partition recovery"
sending 'recovery' (4742 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.525s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.010s]
finished. total time: 0.543s

You have your choice. You can use HoneyStreak ROM's by DJ_Steve, which are completed (Honeycomb Android 3.2)
You can run my CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1)

Thank you. I will look at these and hopefully it will clear some things up. The problem is that my situation is unique I think. I don't know if maybe i have a broken button or the person who gave it to me really messed it up but all it does is boot into fastboot automatically, although I can get it into NVFLASH mode i don't know what these modes do. Are they both able to flash the system so I can use the device? If so do some files work in one that don't work in the other?
I tried putting the device in NVFlash mode caus I want to put the CM10.1 FW on it, am I headed in the right direction ? The only things that I can launch are "Install JB_Alpha_E.bat" and "NVFLASH.exe" running the Install_JB one opens the command prompt and it looks like it is doing something which is how it looks in the video but then suddenly after it processes some files the command prompt window just closes, am I doing something wrong ?

You are doing it wrong. Go read my first post in that thread very very very very very very very carefullly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130081
I'll give you a hint, the line you want to pay attention to is stated right above the download links.
Failed executing command 12 NvError 0x12002
So because the cmd prompt closes so fast I cannot see the error, so I took a video and paused i played it until it froze right where the message came up.
Here is what it says if failes right after creating partitions blah blah blah
Failed executing command 12 NvError 0x12002
command failure: create failed (Bad data)
bootloader status: fatal failure to read / write to mass storage (code:9) message: nverror:0x8 (0x19000008) flags: 0
What does that even mean ? is the device broken somehow ?
Sorry

Sorry I seem so dense when it comes to this stuff, I really don't know android stuff that well.
I looked back and maybe I'm missing what you are saying but I already have the device in NV mode and have the drivers installed if that is what you were talking about.
Now it's just the crashing problem that i'm having. Any ideas? or am I still doing it wrong?

Sorry, at the time I had posted that you were still working with fastboot.
Do you have the drivers installed and in device manager it states that it sees "nvidia recovery" ?
Hard reset with a push pin, go back into NVFLASH mode again, and run the batch file again. If it fails, you hvae to do this step every time.

Yes I am in NVflash mode, I have done the pin press and retried several times each time it the cmd closes and i assume it is getting that error.
i can post a picture of the freeze frame that i was able to pause it on if that helps.

Damn, let me guess, he won't tell anyone how to do it either or show pictures of claimed revived device.
As far as dell goes, is it something that they will fix or do they consider the warranty void because of whatever was done to it to make it like that?
So sad and here I thought I was actually progressing in fixing it. Question though, how does something like that happen? Did the person flash it wrong? Or interrupt it while writing some critical process?
Actually he did tell us how to do it, it was just 1 in a million chance it works.

I can help, first I need to know which HTC One you have, what carrier.
Once youve found out which carrier head over to the sticky with all the stock RUUs and download the one for your phone and carrier (if youre soff then just download anyone) then hold power and vol down to get into bootloader, press fastboot. Plug in your phone and dont touch it... Open up command prompt (assuming youre on windows) and go to your fastboot location... Type in "fastboot oem lock" wait for it to relock youe bootloader... Then type "fastboot rebootRUU" then wait til your phone shows a different screen, the RUU one. Now open up the RUU .exe and run it. Your phone will now be at stock.
That should work if you have fastboot working.

This is why you shpuldnt root your phone if you have no knowledge of adb and fastboot...

How much does a replacement HTC One cost?

Tried rooting my phone, have never done it before (really stupid on my part) and now I can't even get into the phone, all I can do is access a recovery mode and a TWRP mode whatever that is. Looked up how to unroot it but my Mac doesn't even recognize my phone so it's pointless. Anyways, how much does it cost to replace a "broken" HTC One? Is it the price of an unlocked one or what? I'm currently on year 1 of my 3 year plan..

Oh no! HTCSync isn't supposed to recognize your phone.... if you installed HTCSync try fastboot to recognize your phone...
At school... humm... 20minutes.. but you need administrator permission to install fastboot and adb and HTC drivers...
edit: I'll go to bed in a few minutes,.. sorry... GTM +1 ... it's 01:26 at night right now...

[Q] Stuck in Fastboot and can only access hard reset which goes back to fastboot

Hello,
I know there are a ton of "stuck in fastboot" threads but I've spent hours going through them and none of them seem to be what's happening to me. Or maybe all of them combined would... anyway, I would greatly appreciate some help as I'm at my witt's end. I've even somehow managed to screw up a dual boot of Ubuntu on my windows machine, but that's something I'll fix for myself later
Anyway, here's all the info I can think of and what I have done so far.
A month or two I rooted my phone. I never flashed a custom rom or anything. I altered a couple settings but that's it. My phone has worked perfectly this entire time.
Yesterday there was an OTA. I didn't even intend to accept it, I just got the notification and then my phone shut off and went to fastboot. That's pretty much where I've been ever since.
Rebooting gets me to fastboot. Attempting recovery mode gets me to the hard reset screen but not recovery. Trying to hard reset just goes back to fastboot. Download mode does not come up.
Windows sees my phone but disables it because of an error. Attempting to reinstall drivers does nothing. Ubuntu doesn't acknowledge that the phone is there under the regular terminal. If I run the fastboot tool it wont list it but it will respond to a couple commands. I can reboot... into fastboot. Anything else gets the "waiting for device" notification. My device just says "processing commands" but nothing happens.
So that's where I'm at right now. That's the condensed version of the last 18 hours but I think it contains most of the relavent information. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. I'm lucky to have this phone and I would be very upset if I lost it.
Thank you.

Ah! I never went back to that thread after installing linux. I will try that now and report back, thanks!
My pc wouldn't recognize my phone in fastboot until I installed the drivers from pdanet. It would get stuck at wating for device. Ihttp://www.androidheat.com/adb-fastboot-install-drivers-setup/
Well currently everything works until I get to the point that I type "adb devices"
I get "List of devices" and it's blank. My phone is now constantly repeating "reset, portcharge" over and over whenever it's plugged in...

Did you try and install the drivers from the link i posted? I would download pdanet for the drivers if i were you. You won't be able to fastboot the boot.img if your pc won't recognize your phone.

Not yet but I will be. I'm sorry for the delay, I got distracted with something for a bit. I'm trying to fix windows now at which point I will install the drivers you linked and try again.

No problem. I've got my phone shut off to save battery because I'm under the impression that it won't charge in fastboot and I didn't figure repeating that would be good for it. I'm still trying to restore Windows. I'm not used to being limited to a single computer but without my phone and my desktop currently in another state I'm a bit frustrated.
Anyway, I appreciate the help and will keep trying. I'll update if anything happens.

Yes. Everything in the tutorial worked perfectly... until I plugged in my phone, hahaha. I admit now that I'm doing it all in Ubuntu it's a little confusing as this is pretty new to me, but I'm pretty sure I set it up right.

That's what I'm working on now, I screwed up the dual boot and can't get back into windows. Okay. I'm just going to grab my brother's laptop and use it so I can get this done. I can fix my computer later.
I'm going to start at the beginning of the tutorial since it'll be on a different computer. We'll see how it goes.
Edit: Okay, back to windows and this is what I have going on. I've installed the drivers for my phone, set up the sdk and gone into cmd but even with the drivers Windows is telling me that it has disabled my phone because it is malfunctioning (error code 43). Therefore no matter what I do it will not acknowledge the phone or communicate with it. If I try doing anything it just hangs on "waiting for device".
FIXED!
WOOHOO!!
It's working again! I'm not sure exactly how I did it but I rebooted my computer and suddenly the phone said "processing commands" so even though it still wasn't listed as a device I ran boot.img just to see what happened and it's back up and running just like nothing ever happened.
Thank you so much!

And thank you, too! It may well have been the drivers that did it. All I know is my brother's netbook was having the exact same issue my laptop was and then suddenly it worked.
