WM6.1 live mail sound notification - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I have searched Xda for an answer to this question, but no luck... So here goes:
When i set up my live synchronization to synchronize "when items arrives" it will notify new received mail by sound every time. But that sucks the life out of the battery pretty fast, as it is constantly connected to the server trying to update new mail...
When i set it to sychronize every 15 or 30 minutes it wont notify me with sound at all! I want to be notified regardless of the synchronization frequency! Is there any way to do so? I have found no other way than installing 3rd-party software, and that is somewhat out of the question...
FYI my phone is a Kaiser (unbranded) with WinMo 6.1 stock ROM.
I also have the same problem on both my Hermes, both with WinMo 6.0 stock ROMs.
Please help?

Can we summarise the benefits of WM5 rom upgrade...

There's been s much talk of late about the release of WM5 on the BA. I've got my BA still running original rom WM2003 and am undecided if I need to upgrade to WM5.
Can we use this thread to list the basic benefits o the rom upgrade please? I've read page after page about problems and fixes but what will I actually gain from the upgrade?
1. More stable WLAN when it's on (at least for me).
2. No loss of data if the battery runs out.
3. It's cool to have the latest stuff!
4. Better looking dialpad.
5. More stable MMS. On 2003SE I had to soft reset the unit after every second to every third MMS sendt to be able to send more. On WM5 I haven't had that problem at all.
6. The softbuttons at the bottom of the screen always has a handy shortcut to whatever's needed at the moment.
this is a topic i'm quite interested aswell.
i've been reading a few topics related to the WM5, and i'm still not sure if i should upgrade or not.
a few more replies with some feedback would be nice.
thanks Mastiff for the reply, and thanks anyone else who gives his feedback on this.
What Mastiff said plus:
Nick Name for contacts which Micrsoft Voice Command picks up on [rather than say First/Last Name]
Nice Personal Picture/Ring Tone that is set from the WM5 Contacts.
To add more :
- Increased battery life
- Overall stability of OS as now it is on ROM and not in RAM.
- Improved driver database, improved quality of audio
Thanks for the input guys, i'm starting to think it may be upgrade time!
Please keep 'em coming...
According to some promise-stuff by Microsoft. WM2005 finally adds support to synchronize SMS/MMS with Outlook.
Too bad, I couldn't do that when I tested WM2005 BA.
Maybe it's too early... Maybe it requires some pluging for Outlook, I'm not sure.
Wonderful work by mamaich is still in its infancy. I hope the patched WM2005 ROM will get faster, better and badder
Or hopefully HTC will make up their mind and do official BA 2005 bussiness.
I use jeyo mobile extender to sync SMS mesages with outlook. It is a bit buggy, but is compatible with WM5.

You can also say "call [nickname]" - That's new with WM5.
that is what I meant...

Unfortunately I found three main problems which has forced me to return to 2003SE:
1. Much slower than 2003SE, did try the prog to up CPU speed but that only made my M2000 hang often, could live with it except for 2.
2. Email accounts lost if you remove battery (even for only a few seconds).
3. Netfront Access doesn't work!
1. Slower, yes. So much slower that it outweighs the benefits? Hell, no!
2. I have no idea why you have that problem. I just took out the battery and waited for a minute or so, and nothing happened to my mail account. Maybe something has gone wrong during your upgrade?
Well i did the upgrade to wm2005 yesterday. So far it works fine. In fact I see little difference to 2003 version except a few missing apps and wifi has to be switched on manually every time you turn on, pain in the a**e.

Have upgraded twice and same problem, also it would seem I'm not the only person who has this problem
Yeah, i had the email problem. Plus I downgraded because it kept losing my GPRS settings at random moments which was a pain. I really like WM5 and can't wait til next year when i can upgrade to an O2 Exec or similar.
I liked it but found it waaaaaaaay too slow, keyboard lag made it impossible.
And yes, same after resets.

IMAP with google

hi guys, i got my Diamond and was very pleased with it, but i got a problem with the Outlook e-mail client...
i've set-up my outlook client to sync with my gmail imap, but i found out that it won't sync with the schedule settings (x minutes) while on stanby mode... a very strange behavior...
but when i turn on the device it will automatically sync with gmail, but the problem is i need to keep on turning my device on & off... it's just like using the manual checking method...
anyone out there having the same problem?
i've tried exchange push mail, it works fine even the device is on standby mode... (the D-pad ring flashes if i got mail pushed immediately)
Getting exactly the same issue, been searching around, but can't find a solution to it at all. If I do a manual send and receive then everything comes through fine.
It sometimes seem to work, but more often than not it doesn't. Anyone have an idea of a solution or what the problem is?
Also does anyone know how to schedule it so it only does it during certain hours of the day?
Thanks
Is there a way round this?
I've now worked out that when the diamond is locked with the screen off, it's effectively in suspend and won't check for e-mails while in this state. Is there a way round this? Think it's a bit silly that unless you 'wake it' it doesn't check for new mail.
or do I need to use push.....
I have the same problem for my other IMAP account as well. Don't know if POP is affected by this.. My screen is not locked when turned off however, it's just... off, stand-by.
We should not have to use push. That truly is completely different. Might this be some energy saving issue?
I've got the same problem! Anyone with any ideas?
was using ROM 1.37.707.1 before,
and now i am just upgraded to 1.93.831.1
in both version my IMAP with gmail worked fine.... sync time is every 5 min, and my phone get the mail even when on stanby....
default settings, even the IMAP settings were set automaticly
I just upgraded to SwiftBL 4.0, which is ROM 1.93.405.1. In that ROM, email works all right, but not fetching mail each 5 minutes in stand-by. When powered on it works flawlessly, it just won't wake up.
not only happens on Google, it happens on Hotmail too, it wont sync until the device is turned on manually from standby mode.
so just upgrade to 1.93 this issue will be resolved?
Nope, as I just said.. I'm running a 1.93 ROM, it does not work.
In fact, I did a test on this issue by removing the TF3D interface, unfortunately, the problem remains with and without TF3D. Most likely this is caused by the WM itself.
p.s. running 1.37 atm
It's a known issue and has been discussed a few times already. Sometimes it works, but it's not clear when.
I've tried other email software, but I did not really find a good one. I also tried Emoze and Emansio. Both do not support sub-folder. Emansio works perfect (also in stand-by) but it's not cheap.
So, I'm still searching for a good solution
I suffer the same.
I got to a point were I think I should decide when I have time to read my email, so I put in on Manual sync.
For some time ago I thought it was kick ass that mail got in to my Diamond automatically, but I do nothing with it.
Now, when I have some minutes, I sit down and check my mail Safes battery and my time
the best solution should be wait for the ROM fix I believe..
i've upgraded my rom to the original 1.93 (HK english) & found out that the e-mail for gmail imap is working perfectly...
i've tried to use it for a day, i even turned off my push mail to see if it really works...
it's doing fine for now, i set it to receive every 30 mins, so far i haven't got any delays or miss emails...
How do you lock your phone?
I found after upgrading to 1.93 it seemed to work fine, but I was using s2u2 at the time. I uninstalled this and now use the built in lock to come on automatically when I turn the screen off. Now it does not check for e-mails at all. Is there a setting to stop this or another locking app which won't stop e-mails from checking - I found s2u2 draining the battery so don't want to go back to it.
What one needs to have push email working on Diamond. I have 2 Gmail IMAP accounts that want to be pushed to my mobile?

Push email and IMAP are two different things.
To have Push email, you need to have Exchange Server, which has Push email functionality.
Give yerself a break, get email once in 15 minutes.
I have got rid of the eager of getting the mails immediatedly: I mostly don't have time to answer anyway.
I know have set it to once in an hour! In weekends once in 4 hours. I myself make out when I want to read my mail, that's why push-email has been disabled here
Saves battery too

e-mail event notification missing when sync thru pc

got my diamond for 2 weeks and i am using it for exchange push mail too.
everytime when i get new emails pushed to the device through 3g/gprs network i can hear the event notification sound, which is normal. however, email notification sound is gone whenever emails are picked up thru activesync with pc. the emails are there, and the round circle lights, just no sound.
same happened to the original rom version 1.34 and also after upgraded to 1.37.
the sound was there when i was using my old ipaq rw6828 (yes, the ****ty 3 years old crappy thing), and i wonder if it's because of the difference of WM5 & WM6 or if it's something else.
kindly let me know if you experience this too or if there's a solution around. thx everybody.

Enable, Wake Up on new E-mail...

Hi All,
I'm trying to enable my phone to wake up when I receive a new e-mail (when my device is locked and on standby). I want it to wake-up just like when I get a text message.
I'm using L26's WM6.1 Diamond V9 ROM, I'd appreciate if someone could notify me of a reg tweak please.
Please help, no-one has respond.
Have you tried activating push mail? I've got mine configured to work with Exchange Server and it beeps when I get mail. The only problem is that it eats battery big time.
yeap, I've got 5 different accounts setup on my device and one of them is exchange server.

The point is to get the device to wake up - it's already beeping, but staying in Suspend.
I don't think it's possible...
you have to use kaiser tweaks, serach and you will find it here; and enable all value to the "adviced value"
It's not possible to do it the way you want. When the Kaiser is on standby its processor is stopped, so can't receive e-mails. If you use the tweaks mentioned above it will work but your device will never go into standby, only the screen will be deactivated while the processor still runs in the background, not mentioning the active data connection. That means your battery life will go down to somewhere around 5 hours.
What should be needed is an app that uses the notification queue to make the device periodically wake up like an alarm would do, check mail and respectively return to standby / beep according to whether there's new mail or not. But it seems there's no such app out there. With the number of people asking for it, some motivated developer could for sure make a few bucks if he made one
My Kaiser use to wake up when I received e-mails/text messages on my previous ROMs e.g. Dutty's WM6.1 diamond V1 and the official WM6.1. It only doesn't work on this current ROM (L26's Diamond WM6.1 V9).
I find this wired that, the incoming text messages wake up my phone on this ROM but the e-mails doesn't?

Text messages yes, e-mails I doubt, see the following for reason.

Totally normal due to hardware design. On HTC devices, the mobile radio is a block that is separate and independent from the main processor. The radio can do all network-related jobs by itself while the main processor is sleeping, but has a hardware way to wake it up when necessary. When it receives a text messages, it accepts it and receives it on its own, then wakes up the main processor to tell it it has a new message.
E-mails and other internet communication is handled by the main processor itself, so obviously can't take place when it's not running. It needs to be turned on for that kind of tasks to be executed.
If another ROM was waking up when receiving emails, then it was doing what I said earlier, turning on the phone (maybe in an "invisible" way keeping the screen off) periodically to check e-mails. Never seen that functionality yet though.

Thanks for that explanation, where would I get the Kaiser Tweak emad.ebrahim mentioned?
The explanation still does not explain why I got sounds when I receive an email either via Exchange ActiveSync or in periodic checks of my POP email. Nor does it explain why a Treo 750 can wake from an incoming email.

problems with email, icq and wlan

hi!
i'm a newbie @ this forum, so i hope that these questions are ok to ask & my english isn't the worst..
i'm from germany and i got the touch diamond from vodafone in germany..
now i've got 3 problems..
1. if i want to sync emails with my gmx account (pop3) i got a message, that i'm not able to sync it.. "synchronisation problem" maybe it's because the proxy doesn't allow that? i got a imap email account from vodafone too, and there are no problems.. is somebody there who has the same provider or problem?
2. i got qip for the diamond and i can't get a connection to the icq network. "connection timeout" or something like that is the message i get. i tested a lot of icq clients, and i use not the newest version of qip because in this version i'm able to set the proxy, where i set the settings like my connection settings from the windows mobile device.. i've heard, that some vodafone users get this started with my version & my settings, so maybe its somebody here who get this started too.
i think 1 & 2 are the same problem, there must be a mistake in the connection settings.. maybe there is no solution, i searched @ the whole web for weeks & nothing is usefull.. it's strange that i can use the vodafone live portal & google and everything else on port 80..
now there is still the problem 3, its the most important for me..
3. if i go to the standby-mode (the small button on the top of the phone^^) and it's in standby for a while, the damn wlan connection is turning on!!! its really bad, because the battery is empty after a short while. is there a way to disable the automatic wlan connection? after that i always have to go to >settings>connection manger and have to disable wlan.. i installed the advanced settings (i think i got it from here) and enabled a lot of power management settings, and if wlan doesn't turn on, my battery works for 1,5 days (if i doesn't access the internet and play with the phone).. this is a really bad disadvantage @ the phone.. if wlan is turning on the battery is empty after a few hours..
by the way, has somebody a tip for me to get the phone turned on for longer? and whats the record running time? xD
thank you before & i have to say...
.. this forum is the best for windows mobile devices!!! i got a lot of software from here
it's really impressive
