Is there anything special I need to do if going from Hero rom to Eclair? Or just wipe and flash like normal?
wipe phone and extX.

Hey guys, ive looked everywhere.
I have everything I need to install this rom, but considering I am new to installing roms (i only have cyanogenmod) I tried searching google for tutorials and I came up with nothing.
Is there a way to go from Cyanogen to OpenEclair; or do I have to go all the way back to cupcake 1.5 and start over?
If someone can give me suggestions or a tutorial/how to, that would be awsome.
thanks
You need Amon_RA recovery, Danger/Death SPL if you're on G1, apps2sd and swap partitions on your sd card and a complete wipe (ext, dalvik, cache). You don't have to downgrade to cupcake. Make sure that you're not on Rogers radio (EB10 or something like that) cause that needs all kinds of mods that I am not familiar with.
Death SPL - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625886
Amon_RA recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
Card gets partitioned from recovery, so are all of the wipes. Everything is well documented.
Good luck.
Once I have the Danger SPL, can I just flash cyanogenmod to get back to cyanogenmod if I change my mind?
If I wipe, does that clear my apps from apps2sd?
Thanks, been wondering about this!
Yes, CM roms can be flashed with any SPL, most eclair roms require Death/Danger (BTW there's a reason it's called that, make sure you know what you're doing when flashing it)
Wipe will not clear your apps from SD card unless you specifically choose "Wipe ext" option or re-format your SD card from recovery.
Good luck.
ok i flash roms everytime a new one comes out that i like
but i flashed htcclay fastest rom which is great. but now i try to flash other roms but it reverts back the the htcclay fastest rom.i do the standard things to flash a rom in recovery but it doesnt work. i just to flash super D lastest but it stated up with the super d start up.but the setup up screen said fastest?????? whats going wrong here?

Be sure to do the following when flashing different ROMS:
Code:
Backup (not required but nice if you mess something up)
Wipe Data
Wipe EXT partitions
Repair EXT (I do this because I had problems with the EXT in the past, but most will say this isn't needed)
Then flash the rom. You shouldn't have any problems
WIPE
Yeah make sure to wipe the data, cache, and the ext. also make sure to repair the ext partition. After you've done that then you flash the rom that you desire.
hi i flashed to openEclair today but decided to flash back to superD 1.10.2 after flashing i got stuck at the g1 screen and wont go any where.
ive wiped my phone and sd card ext2 and refixed it still wont book
edit
so i flashed openEclair back on again and now its booting, could it be something to do with the fact that i restrored a back up from superD i had on befor?
might have something to do with the diff types of firmware for each rom?
When going from one ROM, to another (not upgrading ROMs), you should always:
1. Make sure your phone meets the requirements (DeathSPL, etc)
2. Nandroid backup
3. Wipe data
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Wipe ext (not always required, but to be certain)
6. Flash ROM
Also, try not to flash ROM's when under 30% battery life. I've had many failures using nandroid scripts as well as flashing roms when my battery life is below 30%. So to ensure no problems, make sure it's got some juice in it.
thanks for getting back to me i have sorted it out now i forgot that superD has gone legal so you need to flash the base befor flashing the superD rom
at least i learn something from all this
I don't have a full brick because I can still getto the amon ra recovery screen by holding "call end"+"home" to bootup the g1
I can also get to the other screen by holding "call end"+"camera"
I've been running superD for a long time now, but a while ago i tried open ecclair and was always stuck on the g1 screen.
so I went back to SuperD.
until yesterday I was using superD 1.10.2 but wanted to try hero.
I tried flashing kingxkxlick's legend2g1 and eris2g1 as well as some other roms, but always ended up on the g1 screen. but now superD 1.10.2 is giving me the same problem too.
however i'm able to flash blue magic and csdi still (but would prefer superD)
why are these roms not working but others are?
how I flash:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe dalvic cache
-wipe sd ext partition
-repair ext partition
-flash rom
I have 512mb ext and 256mb linux swap and am using amon ra recover 1.5.2
roms that have still work:
CSDI (I've tried htcclays remix and mlign too)
blue magic
super 1.9.3
roms that aren't working:
superD 1.10.2 ( I really want to get this one working again)
Open Ecclair
kingxkxlick legend2g1
kingxkxlick eris2g1
Vega's Legend rom
what could possible be wrong?

Do you have the DangerSPL?
What ext partition are you using?
Did you try ext3?
Did you try ext4?
Sometimes the ext type makes a difference.
I'm on ext2 I think unless I upgraded it to ext3 (I usually use ext3 but I heard ext2 was faster so I figured I'd try it out)
I have the danger spl because I was running SuperD, but it's interesting how all the roms that require danger spl no longer work.
maybe thats the problem.
I'm gonna try flashing the hard spl when I get home tonight and flashing a rom that doesn't need danger.
then I'll reflash the radio and danger spl and see if that solves the problem.
If none of this works I think I'll unroot my g1 and then re-root it to start fresh.
Thank you Binary100100 (that means 36?)
It started working as normal after I upgraded it back to ext3!
for that I'm going to follow you on twitter
I am currently at at Serendipity VII and i would like to go to SuperNova4.2.
Can i flash the supernova4.2 Rom from CWM? Sueprnova4.2 is pretty much Firefly which is at 2.2 so i wouldn't have to load the old bootloaders since SerendipityVII is at Gengerbread 2.3 i would just be able to flash straight from CWM correct? I should be ok going from my current Gengerbread 2.3 to any 2.2 without going back to stock correct? Before changing ROMS should i do a wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache? whipe data/factory reset?
flash a froyo kernel with odin first. once thats done it'll bootloop so just yank the battery, boot into recovery wipey wipe, flash supernova...
Might be a dumb question but how can i tell a certain Kernel is a foyo?
in the dev section...the thread title for the kernels will say 2.2 or froyo.
I did a search under Dev for "Froyo" all came back with [ROM] the only one that came back with froyo was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818377&highlight=froyo
yeah there is no .tar in there...
get the .tar here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880
one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930679
sorry forgot the kernels might not have been named froyo since thats all there really was before gb. no need to distinguish...
Before changing ROMS should i do a wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache? whipe data/factory reset?
Thanks for your help.
yup
flash the kernel... then, boot into recovery (cause it'll just loop if you try and go all the way to the OS.) do the data and cache wipes then flash the rom.
Sorry i missed it. Thanks for your help everything went well!
