Help with install OpenEclair - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, ive looked everywhere.
I have everything I need to install this rom, but considering I am new to installing roms (i only have cyanogenmod) I tried searching google for tutorials and I came up with nothing.
Is there a way to go from Cyanogen to OpenEclair; or do I have to go all the way back to cupcake 1.5 and start over?
If someone can give me suggestions or a tutorial/how to, that would be awsome.
thanks

You need Amon_RA recovery, Danger/Death SPL if you're on G1, apps2sd and swap partitions on your sd card and a complete wipe (ext, dalvik, cache). You don't have to downgrade to cupcake. Make sure that you're not on Rogers radio (EB10 or something like that) cause that needs all kinds of mods that I am not familiar with.
Death SPL - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625886
Amon_RA recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
Card gets partitioned from recovery, so are all of the wipes. Everything is well documented.
Good luck.

Once I have the Danger SPL, can I just flash cyanogenmod to get back to cyanogenmod if I change my mind?
If I wipe, does that clear my apps from apps2sd?
Thanks, been wondering about this!

Yes, CM roms can be flashed with any SPL, most eclair roms require Death/Danger (BTW there's a reason it's called that, make sure you know what you're doing when flashing it)
Wipe will not clear your apps from SD card unless you specifically choose "Wipe ext" option or re-format your SD card from recovery.
Good luck.

Can't flash past RC33

I've rooted many G1s now and this is something I've never encountered.
I rooted this G1, it now has the "special" spl, cyanogens 1.4 recovery and the 26i radio but it wont take any rom past RC33. It hangs on the G1 screen everytime. I've even flashed it with my nandroid backups from other roms and same result. Am I forgetting something here?
So you load the rom and update it. Does it say its succesfull? Then it just hangs on the g1 screen. What rom's are you trying?
i had a problem similar to this.. my solution was formatting my ext2/3 partition then i was able to flash roms again hope this helps
It flashes successful but wont boot past g1 screen. Also I'm not running apps2sd. I've tried several roms, none of which require apps2sd.
so all you have is a fat32 partition? you have haykuros spl and htc radio, with 1.4 recovery. your on rc33. and you cant flash another rom?
since you have no ext3 partition make one first then post back your results.
steps:
wipe
make a ext3 partition
wipe again
repair file system
then flash.
wait for it to say done then rebot. if it boot loops, try going back to rc29 then root your fone, then insted of going from 29 to 33 go to cyans 3.9. with updated radio only no spl.
you can flash a rom then flash the radio it wont hurt your fone or rom.
with all the other answers up if none of those work, maybe you got a bad download. if the dev posts a md5 for their download check it.

G1 Help

So I am stuck and not really sure what do to. I was trying to update to another ROM, not really sure what happend but now my g1 is stuck in a boot loop.
I can get to the fast boot menu and also to the recovery menu to load update.zip's. I have tried to reload the root RC but when I rename and load to SDCard Ii get something about not able to verifiy the file.
Could some one Please help to get me back on track.
Side note i was trying to load this:
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=18084
So i have the RC back on my phone, but would still like to install the ROM i posted in the above URL.
In the above post this is what is listed for needs:
SPL 1.33.2005 (Called Haykuro SPL)
Does any one have a link to a Guide that will show how to correctly unstall this SPL? As i under stand it, installing this SPL is very dangeris and will brick your phone easy if done incorrectly.
An ext2/3-partition for the apps
I am pretty sure that i have this set up correctly, I should be able to just go to a prompt and type in print to see the partionts on my SD Card.
Any help or comments would be great!
Boot loop after flashing a different rom is usually caused by your ext partition. You should wipe the partition when you change ROMs. You can backup the apps on the ext partition to the fat32 partition, wip ext, then restore the apps.
Use the script in post 3 HERE
As for the DangerSPL... I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to try a hero ROM. If you still want to install it then make sure you flash the proper radio first, even if you already have the radio, flash it again anyways. Both can be found HERE

Want to reinstall CMod

hi,
a few days ago i uninstalled google maps on my G1 running the latest version on CyanogenMod. So i thouhgt i would reset everything by doing a wipe in the CM recovery Console (v1.4). So after doing a wipe i see that Google maps is still not there again. Im aware that i can install it again, but i would like to do a complete reset of all system files.
Could someone give me a hint on how to do this?
Thanks!
We need a little more info to be able to help.
What version of CM are you running?
Are you willing to do a complete wipe?
Were you running apps2sd?
Were you running a swap file or compcache?
Were you running a modified boot img?
Do you have a nandroid back-up?
Do you have any form of back up?
IF you don't know the answers to any of those that is fine, an "I don't know" is better than a "No", when it was really a "Yes".
All CM roms after {at least} 4.2.3.1 need the signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip (signed.zip)
{You can do a search for the link on these forums.}
The Google Maps apk comes from the signed.zip. Reflashing the CM on later versions will not get you anything from Google.
In fact you can really mess up your phone if you don't have the signed.zip .
You might wanna find it, download it, and have it on hand for when you need it.
And let us know the answers to the above questions so we can help you out.
Thanks for the reply!
I'm running CyanogenMod v4.2.8.1
Yes, i would love to do a complete wipe
I was not using swap2sd or compcache(as far as i know)
Concerning the Boot Image i have Recovery 1.4
Yes, i have Nandroid backup
Firmware-Version: 1.6
Baseband-Version: 62.50S.20.17U_2-22-19.26I
Kernel-Version: 2.6.29.6-cm42 [email protected] )
Build-Number: DRC83
I hope this info helps.
To have installed 4.2.8.1 you had to have the signed.zip file listed above.
Do not wipe ...yet
Try this...
HOME+POWER to boot to recovery
Install from zip
the signed.zip.....DO NOT REBOOT
Install from zip
cm 4.2.8.1.zip
REBOOT
The signed.zip should replace your maps program.
You might look into putting Amon Ra's recovery program on there instead of CM rec 1.4 RA's is more detailed and will allow you to wipe more data on the sdcard such as your dalvik cache and any partition data...IF you need to .
Try this simple step first and see where it gets you.
Ok, i applied the signed.zip, and after that i reapplied CyanogenMod 4.2.8.1.
Google Maps is back but some setting didnt get cleared. For example, the USB Debug mode is still on, or it continued to download some updates which i started earlier. It didnt reset everything.
Any idea why that might be?
LOL You said you wanted maps back...I got you maps back.
And now your not happy Jeez!
USB debugg is automatically turned on by the CM rom.
go to Settings>applications>Development to turn it off.
We didn't do a Fresh install we just did an re-install.
If you want to actually wipe it clean, then I highly suggest using Ra's recovery since it is a one click wipe.
Cm Recovery will wipe too.
Home+Power to cm rec 1.4
Wipe
Install from zip
signed.zip
install from zip
cm 4.2.8.1
REBOOT
And you should have a fresh install with no other data.
If you have apps already on there when you reboot, then you have apps2sd active and you need to wipe the ext partition to clear those apps.
The Amon Ra recovery will do that for you.
Well, i want to wipe since i got the feeling is a bit messed up. Just seems very slow at times and my connection drops once in a while.
So i'm going to Install Amon Ra's recovery and perform a wipe.
I didnt have app2sd active. I never did any partitioning to my sdard. Im going to Low Level format my sdcard just to make sure nothing is left on there. But as i mentioned, i did the reinstall as you said and after it booted, and i didnt the sign in stuff, setting time etc... it continued to download 2 apps which i started earlier.
I'll let you know how it went with Amon Ra's
Ok, this worked great! I installed Amon Ra's Recovery and executed ever option which had the word "wipe" in it Then applied signed.zip and after CMod. Perfect!
Thanks a lot for your help

Help with Cyanogen

I need help running the latest cyanogen rom, i am currently on the sensehero, and want to make a move to cyanogen. Ive read, but am not sure what to do. Ive read, I need to download the android recovery image 1.6 and mount it on my sd as well as the rom itself. Then i wipe clear everything, fix my ext, then flash the recovery image then flash the rom itself. Are these steps correct or is there anything else i must do? And btw I have danger spl and current radio image and latest cm recovery, 1.4. Thanks in advance

Phone stuck at G1 Screen

Ok, I'm guessing I misunderstood something. I'm a "noob" so bear with me...
here's what I did.
I was running cm v 4.2.9.1 and decided to try and upgrade to the latest version. I wiped and reflashed and got 4.2.14.1 running, but I felt it was slow (the reason I didnt use any other new version), so I came here looking to see any new roms.
I decided KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom looked cool, so I downloaded it and flashed it (yes I wiped first). I'm guessing this is where it went wrong. The rom took 30 mins to finally boot to home (longest ever) but the sweet nexus screen made it easier to bear. I DID NOT do anything with an spl or any radio (that part still kinda confuses me to be honest). I'm guessing this is why I am in the predicament that I am.
The KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom loads fine, but was VERY slow. I decided I'd just go back to cm v 4.2.9.1. I went to wipe and reflash, but the G1 screen never disappeared. I let it load for about 30 minutes and decided that was a bit ridiculous before removing the battery (mind you, it never got past the T Mobile G1 screen). I was, however, able to reflash KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom and run it. This is all I am able to do. When trying to reflash cyonagen it just hangs on the G1 screen.
I'm a noob so I don't know what went wrong or what I missed.
Can someone PLEASE help me out here and tell me what I need to do to fix this. Thanks
Additional Notes:
Can't get to settings running KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 AT ALL, and a lot of programs Force Close on the rom.
Thanks for any help/input you guys can provide.
Thanks
Do you have Amon Ra recovery?
No I do not believe so, as I am not exactly sure what that is?
UPDATE: I should also note I checked my SPL and Radio, both were very old (as I realized I followed an OLD guide when I rooted my phone)
I upgraded to the latest radio and SPL and still have the same problem...except King's rom doesn't force close when I go to "settings".....thats about the only difference (still slow/laggy, lots of programs still FC)
When you boot into recovery (holding home+power) it should tell you what recovery image you are using. (i.e. mine says v1.5.2 down at the bottom of the screen) I ran into a similar issue when I attempted to jump between roms without taking all the appropriate steps; all I did was reformat my sd card, wipe the phone, and reflashed my rom and it worked great after that.
I tried reformatting my sd card, even re-partitioned it and I'm still having the same problems:
CM wont get past g1 screen after flash, King's rom still pretty slow....
What do you gys recommend I do next? This is getting really frustrating
1st: Check if youre Formatting is correct
2nd: Wipe EVERYTHING
3rd: Re-Format
4th: Try downloading the ROM again. It could be an issue with the ROM's
5th: Check you have proper radio and SPL (1.33.2005 and 26I)
6th: Pray
Try them all hope one of them works for you dude.
why is it that that 99% of newbs are on cyanogen
@Macrophage001
1. how do I CHECK my formatting to see if its correct?
2. Doesn't formatting do this automatically? I also "wiped" in recovery...
4. Not the roms, I have multiple CM roms, one of which I've had for some time with no problems and have re-flashed over and over
5. As stated above, I did not have the latest at first, i did upgrade to the latest radio and hakyuro(sp) spl to no avail.
@zachattack052
We've all been told it's THE BEST, much before even making the decision to root. I honestly thought CM was the only rom available, that's how much he's praised around here and other forums.....it's just what everyone tells us.
Here's what i suggest you do:
1> Download Amon_RA's recovery from here
here is a link to his thread
2> Transfer the file you just downloaded to the root of your sd
use this code to mount your sdcard from recovery console itself if needed
Code:
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
3>Disconnect usb and reboot to recovery (keep home pressed while powering on) or just type
reboot recovery if you are already in recovery console
4> Flash Amon's recovery:
Code:
#mount -a
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2.img
when complete, reboot to recovery again
5>Partion your sd using amon's recovery (All data on SD will be lost so backup if needed)
[Alt+P] then [Alt+0] or scroll down using the trackball or the volume keys
follow the prompts, set your swap-size to 96 MB (use the vol keys) and 512 MB ext2. when done use the back button to go back and reboot
The above step will give you the partitions required to run any rom. Please make sure you meet the radio and SPL requirements before flashing a rom.
6>Transfer the latest CyanogenMod rom to your SD and flash it.
I would suggest that you try bbuchacher's SuperD rom (it requires Haykuro's Danger SPL)
make sure you flash the radio first and then the SPL if you dont already have it
P.S. When anyone says full wipe, they mean doing a factory reset, wiping your ext partition and wiping the dalvik-cache. These are the first 3 options in Amon_RA's recovery's wipe menu
what i would do....
make sure you flash the HTC recovery files first before you flash the CM rom
go for the defanged version of HTC
so...(once u have amon ra's latest recovery installed)
wipe everything
flash htc / defanged (DO NOT REBOOT!!!)
flash cm latest rom
ALLOW IT TO LOAD FULLY
reboot (personal preference)
create a nandroid backup for future **** ups
enjoy ur rom!!

1: Go to recovery console and type parted. A list will show up with your fat32,ext2/3/4,linux-swap settings.
2: Yes it does but you can never be too sure.
4: ok
thanx guys I followed the instructions MrBurrito and cqms13 gave and am now running the Super D rom just fine.
Thanks again!
very quick question..
did you wipe dalvik-cache?

After installing the RA recovery, yes. I was running CM Recovery though when I began this thread, which is why I was not able to wipe dalvik
