It also depends on the Radio you have installed. I had 1.18 and experienced a heavy drain on 3G along with other users who upgraded to the RSA 1.35 ROM release. Since moving on to the 1.27 radio my battery consumption is now acceptable again.
Maybe this assists.

because sometimes its going good and sometimes no

They determine the state of charge in a battery by very small changes in the battery's output voltage. When you reset the phone, the phone stops pulling power from the battery, which can temporarily raise the voltage of the battery. The opposite (but less likely) explanation is that your phone had some process going that drew a lot of power, thus pulling the voltage down. When you reset, that process was gone.
It is really hard to accurately measure the state of charge of a battery while it is powering an operating circuit. I think it's a minor miracle that they do as well as they do.

ok so how can i know how much is my real battery life.
and when i dont use the phone i see that there isnt even 1 program on that maybe can take battery life
dont know what to do i guess i will try to update alot of roms until i will fine the right one
maybe its better to wait for windows 7?

[NOT] WM5 Power bug (bad battery)

<BUMP> Is there a WM5 ROM which doesn't exibit the “dies @ 40% power” bug? This really causes a lot of problems, including losing the mail account settings. I am constantly having to remember to cradle my device throughout the day so it can make it. Also WiFi is basically unusable if the battery is below 50%. The device will just turn off. I am using 1.4 vanilla. I am grateful to Helmi and the community at large for all the great work on these devices. It seems it would be good to fix this issue before all the ROMs are gone.
TIA,
sbl
[EDIT] _TB_TB_ nailed it. Bad battery. Posting this over WiFi w/only 20% battery left. Yeah!
Your battery may be broken (one or two of its cells...). My battery did get broken... (Yes, the phone kept turning off at 40%)
got exactly the same, but mine dies at 58% [email protected]#
You really think it's a broken battery or could this be a software bug.
grtx
nijhof
That depends. Turn the phone on, run camera app. Let it stay on. Wait till the phone dies. Turn it on again. Run camera. Let it stay on. Repeat the procedure until the phone fails to pass the "stripes" screen. This should drain the battery down to its "real" zero. You will know if its a software bug or a battery issue.
RE: bad battery
Thanks, _TB_TB_. I am trying a different battery. Will also try the camera test with each. I'll post results in a day or two.
sbl
Thanks, _TB_TB_
You were right. Guess that explains why ALL the WM5 ROM's I tried had the same issue. :^)
New battery = Happy user
Thanks again,
sbl
No problem
I simply had the same issue (battery damaged by the car charger...).

Battery Diagnostics

Hello,
I have upgraded my Imate PDA2k ROM Helmi_BA_WM2k5_AKU3.5_v1.4.CF2 R2 by baniaczek for about a month now. It has been working perfectly fine with no much issues on Wifi and other stuff. But since last one week i see my battery runs out within 3 hours and each time i had to re-charge the same. Even though the usage is really minimal. ( May be 2 or three calls and no real PDA usage). Also i feel the device is heated up most of the time. Are there any diagnostic tools for battery ?. .. Is this caused by any program running continously.
Any suggestions to find out the battery problem.
It is probably a running program or some activated interface (GPRS, IrDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). Make sure they are all deactivated.
Thanks for the reply. I have tried disabling BT/WiFi / GPS ( even deleted GPS Connections ). Still the battery runs only for 3 to 4 hours. How can i figure out which of the applications might be causing the problem ??..... ( As i stated in my previous post things were fine two weeks back ). I can not figure out!... Can this be a hardware problem ?. Should i try flashing the ROM again ?.
Any suggestions will be of great help.
Thanks.
Is the backlight always on?
No. I think its a hardware problem. I flashed the ROM again and still the battery was draining really fast. Anyways i will change the battery now and check.
regards
Perhaps the battery is getting life expired. THe most common indication of expiring battery is that it stats taking longer to charge and gets drained faster...Try replacing the battery..
Your right but it shouldn't happen in so great leap. You said that you flashed another ROM. Try doing master reset and leave the device in factory-fresh state - do not restore anything from backup imediately. If it is fine then, it is a software problem. If it is not, try turning on the flight mode for determining if it is GSM related. I'm afraid that a new battery won't solve anything.
?
i'm guessing that your IR is turned on since you did not state it on your post earlier!
IR eats your battery like pacman does.

It would still be interesting to have battery diagnostics software. Does anyone know of such a package?
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/batterytests.html?en
might be useful for testing.. could potentially try different screen brightness and speeds to get a comparison. I will say that I used to only get 1 day from my old OEM battery.. got one of the e-bay special 2500mAh and now it easily gets 3 days with the same usage pattern as before..
After a long time again a re-post on this. Well my problems seems to be not getting over. I flashed the PDA2k to factory state and still the battery was draining. Then next obvious thing was to replace the battery. Now i have a brand new battery and reflashed again to factory state and my fears are coming true... still the battery drains in 3 hours... what next guys ?.

have you checked ur infra red setting? make sure its OFF! i think, it is turned on as default after flashing! or maybe your charger is defective! try someones charger!
IR disabling has not helped in the past. But i tried again but no much use. The equipment is heated up during normal usage time. Is there any thing more i can try before my BA becomes a history. ( BTW. the repair center refused take anything other than the screen changes and battery replacements. !!.. )
Any one having any idea how to reset the bios ?. I think my battery problems are related to trying out the Trial Version of Pocket Hack Master to overclock the PDA. I have uninstalled it long time back and may even have performed three to four times ROM updates but may not have reset the software's overclocking settings back .. ?!!...
BTW. The service center argued out that the any ROM updates other than official Imate ROM will void the warrantee and twice they returned without repair and attributed the the problem of heating to ROM updates... ( without even checking!! ...
I faced the same problem when attempted to upgrade my Harrier. I agree, that there must be an error somewhere in the device BIOS that cannot be that easily reflashed. Unfortunately, I could not find any solution and had to replace the useless phone that drained the battery within 4-5 hrs.
Yes the over clocking eatsup the battery as well as causes heating up the device. So better dactivate the over clocking..

Overheating and abnormal battery consumption!

Hello, I am new to this forum but it seems like the right place to post this.
I did some searching on this forum and I saw that I was not the only one with this problem, however I did not find any answers to the posts regarding this. I am hoping some suggestions will show up in this thread though
My Diamond has been acting very strange for about a week now. All of a sudden, my batterytime decreased from a (for me) normal time of about two days, to about 30 minutes. Also the bottom part of the phone gets really hot.
What's even more strange is that two days ago it somehow just went back to being fine?! Today it's back to it's weird hot/battery devouring state.
ROM-version: 1.37.413.3 SVE (Yes, I know I should update it...)
Radioversion: 1.00.25.03
PowerGuard says:
Battery Current: -324 mA
Battery Voltage: 3542 mV
Battery Temp: 38,9 C
I also have a few applications installed, like the answerkeys disabler app and G-alarm. But other than that it's pretty much stock.
Has anyone heard about this before? I don't really like the idea of sending it in for repair since it's about 10 days without my precious phone =)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
i have read on here before that it sometimes is fixed (or reduced) by updating the Radio.
i believe the BS14 radio is the best one for reducing heat and improving battery life.

I have had a similar experience....a day or better battery life has been norm for a month, until the other day when I noticed my phone was very warm/hot and had burned an abmormally high perentage of the battery life in two hours. I also had one occurrence where instead of the normal 7-8% overnight burn, it had used 70% of the battery life. I'm still trying to see if I can catch the culprit; some sort of latch up of the hardware or a program not behaving.
Let us know if your problem does go away with a different radio. I have a stock US GSM and am happy with the radio performance...(unless it's eating my battery when I'm not looking.
Ah, so I'm not alone then!
I have not yet had the time to try this as I have been working too much, but I will try updating the radioversion before I buy a new battery or something, that's for sure...
I'll post in this thread with results when I'm done!
By the way, if I upgrade my ROM, will that also update the radioversion?

Battery drainage

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you who are using Touch Pro had a this problem: my battery drains very fast AFTER I use programs like tomtom or skype- I mean that after I close these programs (or other) and charge the battery to full level it drains very fast. The only solution I found so far is to soft reset.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey the battery life isnt great, but you can do something to make it better. There are currently three + threads opened discussing the battery life problems. Try one of those. The next time you post it might help to search and include your ROM, Radio, and location information.

Battery drain Problem [100% to 5, then shutdown]

I am trying to determine if I have a bad battery or it's the Android costing this issue. While using my Tilt I have wifi on and was using the apps (IE: Market, XDA, etc...) the battery indicated the full charge (or what I have left) drop to 5%. Sometime it will shutdown my Tilt first and when I boot it back up it indicated that I only have 5% or less battery power. That is within 5 minutes of use.
Do I need to get a new battery or is this problem with something else?
1. battery dead.
2. software problem. I have bought a tytn II with 30Euro because it had a problem with the battery. resoft and radio update made me happy. i have 2 tytn's working perfectly. one is for testing and the other one for every day use.

That is what I am try to determine, if I need to go out and buy new battery.
Battery status in the setting stated that the battery is in good condition.
What did you mean by resoft and radio?
In Android there should be an app called "Spare Parts" in the app drawer. Find this app, open it then select "Battery Information". Leave this up while charging because we need to see at what point the phone says it's charged. Normal charge level for ANY single-cell Li-Ion battery is 4.2 volts, no higher.
Once charged, disconnect charger and watch the battery voltage number. It should drop a little once off charge (maybe 4.1-4.0 volts). If it drops steeply, say 3.8 or less, your battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
It sounds like your battery is dropping WELL below the "rest" voltage sometime shortly after charging, indicating delamination inside the cell, an indicator of over charging.
I've studied quite a bit on how Li-Ion batteries work over the past year so if anyone should know, I would...
Good luck!!!
resoft = new firmware = new OS = etc
radio = 1.70.xx. = that thing required so that your tytn II work with android on it.

Battery Status: Charging (USB)
Power Plug: USB
Battery Level: 69
Battery Scale: 100
Battery Healthn: Good
Battery Voltage: 4177mV
Battery Temparature: 32.7c
It currently at 70%, I'll report back once it fully charged.

I think I have either 1.71 or 1.70 radio (can't really tell sicne I do not know where to look. I have tried different OS (IE: Scoot, Fat Free, etc...) Still the same problem.
One other thing, the phone keep shutting down in the middle of me trying to use it. So, I don't know if it is related to the battery issue I have or not.
Maybe simple solution will be the best solution Back to original system (win6.1) for one day and you will see what causing problems. If everything will be ok that you doing something wrong with android. If not-battery is dead or it is another hardware problem....
@ PoXFreak - After fully charged and the batttery voltage went from 4.2 (4217mV) to 3.9 (3990mV) in less than a minute. And it keeps dropping, after a few minutes it dropped to 3.8 (3808mV - 3855mV)

I used 2.6.25 in the past, good one so give it a try . Also, check that app I've shown you few posts ago, it shows battery usage in mA, show me your results, for me it's around 200 mA.
It looks like the battery still drain fast, it just dopped down to 1% and shutdown on me, I will download that apps once I have a chance.
BTW! How do I tell what version radio I currently have? I cannot find that info anywhere. The place where it usually will show me (Baseband version) only said HTC.
