spec me a car charger! - HD2 Accessories

Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before, but i couldnt find anything! I'm basically looking for a car charger to charge my HD2 in the car. I've looked on ebay but they all seem rather cheap? are these ok to use?

Anything with a micro USB plug would do, as long as it has 1000mA output. Motorola has one that will work well with HD2.
Alternatively, you could buy a DC to USB adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and then use a micro USB cable to connect your phone. Again, make sure the adapter is rated 1000mA. My advice, stay away from cheap ebay stuff when purchasing power supplies. Not worth risking your phone's battery or worst just to save a few dollars imho.

Example of a result of using cheap chargers in the car ...

Could i just buy one of these and use the usb to micro usb cable that came with the hd2?

i just ordered one of these 2 amp ones from amazon uk.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ULTIMATEADDONS-AMP-Car-Charger-Smartphone/dp/B002WT0XP4

A bit dramatic aren't we...

If you want one which should be reliable:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-hd2-cc-c200-micro-usb-car-charger-p22081.htm
I would stay away from the cheap ones too. Not because of risks to phone or car (in practice both should be fine), just because they probably wont last as long.
Belkin are a big brand and should be fine (although I have had a belkin mains adapter fail with my touch pro). Yes, It would work with your htc micro usb cable (thats why they put a usb socket on!).

I like that idea, perfect for the car, or when traveling in rentals or other peoples cars.

That is exactly the one I am using! Loving the tiny size, too
Get one now!
Free Man, the BalckBerry charger should work well, too.

Correct me if I am wrong but when you charge the phone via the computer's USB port, as far as i know, the max output you can take is 500mAh. So I guess it is fine even with 500mAh car chargers..

Well, yes it is OK to charge with 500mA, but then how much time have you got? I have tested a few chargers rated 500 mA and got the message that it needs more juice while shooting a video in the car... I guess if time is not an issue and the phone just sits there idle, a 500mA charger will be OK. However, if you use it for navigation it will struggle to keep topping up your battery.

motorola p513
it is ok this car charger? i found that it is an 5V @ 850 mA. If it is not enough i will cancel the order.

Go with a 1A (1000Ma) Output. That is what the original charger is. I used a Blackberry charger at .5A and it would take 24H to charge a dead battery while the phone is turned on.

For those of us going from a Nokia small pin to HD2 with Nokia car chargers already, this looks good. Jumper

there is a kensington car charger that is nice and small too, with a tapered end which is more likely to fit compared to the square end belkin version (see amazon reviews), but the charge output is only 700mA not a 1000mA. See here

USB car charger. Any hints ?

I'm looking for USB car charger for HD2 (US T-Mobile HD2) ... the one which has USB port in it where you put another USB cable. Here is what I'm looking for.

I'm NOT looking for something like this
2.
Here is the problem ... I have one car charger like 1. And it says 5V 1000mA, but it DOES NOT charge my HD2 ! LED light on charger is green, LED light on HD2 is red, HD2 "Settings->Power" says "Charging", but it does not ! I use USB cable which came with HD2 from T-Mobile. I'm able to charge from USB WALL charger with this cable fine. I also tried different USB cable - it works with WALL charger and does not work with car charger
My question is ... USB car charger for HD2 ... what specs it has to have ?
What am I doing wrong here ?
Just a guess but there is a setting which stops the phone charging when connected to a pc via usb. Maybe it thinks its connected to a pc?
Goto settings --> about phone --> battery
and make sure "when phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a pc" is unchecked.
If that doesnt help my second guess would be that the usb charger is dead.
Just search for "car usb adapter" on ebay, loads come up.
According to spoon charge (download from these forums) my hd2 uses a max of 900mA when charging, so 1000mA should be fine.
Hope that helps.
yeh I got one and it's fine.
I got a spare too so if u ever need one ...
Do use a USB car charger with higher current capacity (say 2000mah). avoid cheap (chines) chargers, boasting high current capabilities.
I ordered the HTC C200 because messing with the battery just because I could save a few bucks is not worth it IMHO. I cost me like 15 Euros and if anything happens to my battery I can blame HTC themselves.
btw the C200 is like the one in the first picture!

If anyone is still wondering why their aftermarket car charger doesn't charge their HD2 properly, the two centre points on the USB socket need to be soldered together.

Now that I've been using this charger on my HD2 for a couple of days now, I thought I'd give an update - not all USB leads will charge your phone when it's running under load.
I tried a Nokia lead and while it charged the HD2 with bluetooth running, as soon as I started the GPS (tomtom) as well, the battery started to discharge.
Then I tried a Sony Ericsson mini USB lead (supplied with my X1) with a mini-USB to micro-USB converter lead from ebay, and my original HD2 lead. These charged the battery with bluetooth and GPS running together.
The Sony Ericsson X1 mini-USB lead is much thicker than the HD2 and Nokia leads.

Car Charger?

I'm thinking of getting a Nexus 7 to replace my in dash OG Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. This means I'll need a car charger that outputs enough juice.
In my tablet experience, HTC Flyer/Asus Transformer/HTC Evo View/OG Galaxy Tab, only the OEM chargers put out enough juice to keep it charging under load.
So, what are the requirements, and has anyone found a suitable car charger that should meet those while wifi/Bluetooth/GPS are active?

That charger should be fine, but in general believe no specs you see on EBay. A lot of cheap (this one is not) chargers made in China just flat lie. Listed as 5V 2amp - well yes, just not at the same time. You can have 5 volts or two amps, just not at the same time. Even a good brand name does not help you - there are a lot of fakes. Look at the construction, and run some simple tests if it matters.

I also used an inverter, but my alternator kept failing...Not sure if there is a connection...But I don't think its the most efficient way to utilize the 12volts DC, converting it into AC and then the AC power cord converts the juice back into DC. Seems like a waste.

When this same question is asked for most 2amp devices lately the answer has been this ^ Although it's only 950mA
Especially for those wanting to use their phone's in the car with GPS turn by turn navigation, streaming and bluetooth enabled.
The Genuine Original Motorola Rapid Rate Charger is the only one that has really worked.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...&keywords=original+motorola+car+quick+charger
YMMV, Now to find the vendor that sells the real thing..
I've just ordered one from Amzon, is a dual usb port one, 2.1 amps on 1 port, 1amp on the other, gets good reviews saying that it charges power hungry devices quickly and only a couple of quid!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRIXES-Char...VSRK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342262522&sr=8-2

Tested a few chargers

The Galaxy Note 2 comes with a 2 Amp AC adapter/charger so I was curious to compare the charging capability of the stock charger to other chargers that I already own. I cut open a USB to uUSB cord and used a current meter to see how much 5V current was flowing from the charger into the phone. These results are only good for a Galaxy Note 2. Other phones will draw a different about of current (probably lower). Details of the setup can be found far below.
The conditions were:
Battery level = 48%
Voltage was measured on the cable about four inches from the phone
Only the charger was changed between tests (used the exact same cable/setup for each test).

The results explain why the Note 2 charges so fast compared to the original Note that I had. Something to keep in mind with dual port chargers...... when I had the two dual port car chargers apart modifying them (the D+ and D- setup so my Note 1 would recognize it as a dedicated charger), I noticed that both chargers used a single 5V regulator and simply ran the power for the two USB ports in parallel. That means that although they say it is a dual 1A charger it could be used as a single 2A charger. I can't say every dual charger is setup that way, but it seems unlikely they would spend the $$ on two different regulator circuits.
Details:
The cable is about three feet long. I cut the cable about four inches from the uUSB connector (where the phone connects). I soldered the ground, data +, and data - wires back together and just left the 5V red wire open so I could insert a current meter (used a Fluke 189 on the 10A mode).
For most people, it is probably best to just buy a car charger that will support 2A for Android. Note that many chargers are setup (their D+ and D- pins) for Apple so you may not get full charging current. That may take a little digging around to see what others have found.
Very interesting! Thanks for posting this as I'd prob would have bought an Iphone car charger. I now know not to, question is what one would be best for matching amperage draw compared to the stock Samsung one(might just order the official, it's cheap).
Thank goodness I bought a lot of those HP touchpad chargers!

I cleaned up on those HP Touchpad chargers when they were blowing them out for $5 each. I bought five of them and scattered them all around home and work. Of course the GN2 has such good battery life that I probably won't be needing them much.

He tested the maximum current you could get out of each charger. In other words, how much current can you pull until the current limit of the regulator kicks in and the voltage severely drops. I measured how much current the Galaxy Note 2 will pull from each charger. The phone dictates the amount of current pulled as long as that current level is below the maximum current of the charger (he lists the maximum possible current for each charger). If I hooked up the stock Samsung 2A charger to a GS2, it would likely draw less than 1A because it has a smaller battery so it is designed to charge at a lower current. All my results are specific to the Galaxy Note 2.
Here's another crazy data point. I tried 3 different chargers and 4 different USB cables with a killawatt. The stock white cable pulled at least 1.5 more watts than the other cables, which were note1, evo3d and monoprice cables.
At this point I think Samsung increased the wire gauge on the note2 USB cable, to get the resistance down a bit. Hmm this might even be measurable. More stuff to check out tomorrow.
Oh, I tested several 2amp or greater power supplies, and the stock note2 PSU always did slightly better.

I found a rapid car 2.0a car charger, fyi

Just got it in yesterday.. Tried it today, works great! No notification of "slow charging" and it goes much quicker than my regular standard usb charger does (the old ones for my gnex).

Correct me if I'm wrong, But isn't 2A too high a charge rate for the G2?? The base for the GNEx is .15A, which is why we get the slow charge indication. The charge port that comes with the G2 is rated at .3A. I would think that the rated 2A charge in this thread would damage the battery over a period of time.
The stock lg charger (AC) is rated at an OUTPUT of 1.8 amps. So these should be fine in a pinch for car charging. The gnex was 1.0

A 2A port will give you Quick Charge. I'm pretty sure you can have over 2A on a port, and the device will only pull as much power as it needs. As long as the port is rated 5V, it'll be fine. It's 2A/3A/whatever available, not how much the charger forces into the plug. Kinda like how a home outlet is rated at 120V and usually 15A; devices will need to be rated for 120V and will pull only as much amperage as they need.
I might get this one because it's compact and has two ports at 1A and 2A.

I highly recommend the Belkin 27 watt USB C charger. What makes it A Cut Above the Rest is that it not only has Qualcomm 4+ fast charge but also PD 3.0. This means that it supports Wireless fast charge accessories unlike most USC-C fast charge adapters which only have PD 3.0. It's only $11 w/ free shipping right now on ebay. And it's Belkin so it's made well.

Another accessory I recommend to everyone, is a magnetic detachable USB C cable, These are upgraded design that have a very strong magnet that does not accidentally detach easily. It supports PD 3.0 & QC4+ fast charge & data transfer. Using this cable will significantly reduce any wear on your usb c port. It swivels 360° so at any angle you can use the cord and it won't put strain on your phone.
I use it so that it is plugged in to my one port USB C wall plug and I can switch out and plug in any device (usbc , micro USB, iPhone). When my phone is done charging I'll plug in my 18650 battery charger or I'll recharge a flashlight or I'll even plug in my tablet all using the same cord. Very very cool. It comes in 1M & 2M length. It only comes with 1 magnetic attachment( your choice), so you have to buy more if you want to use more than one device, but it's worth it.
