Yet Another GPS Tracker? - yes, but:
- this is a nice one - thanks to excellent design by expo7! And you can set your custom background and button images;
- can select GPS run interval: from "always on" to "run every 10 min" - this is useful if you want to reduce battery power usage;
- has usual cycle computer display: time, distance, speed (current, average, max) plus a graph of your track.
The tool logs GPS data into a binary file (so a lot of data can be stored in a compact form), which can be loaded back for viewing, or saved into .kml / .gpx file to view in e.g. GoogleEarth. With the latest version of GoogleMaps, you can view KML files on your phone. Just click on a kml file in file explorer. Note there is a bug in the latest GoogleMaps installation, so KML files does not work - read the manual how to fix this.
The files are now stored at Google Code web site, please download the latest version from here: http://code.google.com/p/gccv2/downloads/list
What you need to download (go for the latest version!) :
- GpsCycleComputer_X.XX.cab - the application itself. To install, copy CAB into your phone, and click on it from your phone File Explorer. The manual (file called Readme.htm) is installed on your phone, in the same folder as the application. E.g. if you install into "Internal Storage" on English Windows, the path to the application will be \Internal Storage\Program Files\GpsCycleComputer.
- GpsCycleComputerSource_X.XX.zip - A complete source code in C#, uses CF .NET 2.0. Feel free to change anything you like!

I'll give it a try thank you.
Does it work with the screen switched off?
Edit: now I see the backlight off button xD
Hi,
the tracker works great! buuuuuut I have a problem, I can't import the .kml file into google earth. Although I open it (with a text editor) and the coordinates seem correct, when I import it, google earth sets all the coordinates in the north pole ¿?¿?
Very Nice
Hello,
it really looks good And i like the "simple" stuff. Exactly the needed functionality. The only thinmg I miss is the possibility to save the files as GPX.
Oh and it would be perfect if it is possible to disable all button's but the power button when the screen is of.
Thanks for the tool. I will test it in Australia next month.
And I will have a look in the sources

I cannot see the truck in google earth ... why?
Strange that you do not see anything in Google Earth. I just tested again, all OK. I use Windows version: "Google Earth 4.3.7284.3916 (beta) Build Date Jul 8 2008"
The KML file is quite simple - I looked an existing KML sample supplied with Google Earth (called, of course, "KML Samples"), found the simplest one with "path" and simply put the new coordinates there.
Try to put a single point in the coordinates and see if it works for you?
The only bit this I can think of is the "Z" coordinate, which is "optional" according to Google manual. But maybe in your version you need that "Z" as well (this will be the 3rd number after lat/long, - put 0 there, note it is separated by comma.
Also I removed entry called "<LookAt>" - but seems my version can set the eye position automatically...
Re the buttons: I have not explore all the Diamond settings in details: on mine, by default, all the buttons are locked as I click software button "BkLight Off". Then I switch it back with hardware "power" button. Do you have the same?
BTW: here is the Google sample I used as a template - try if this works (and after removing which field it does not!). BTW, according to Google help, it might be possible to use GoogleMaps for viewing KML file (but I was not able to make this work on Diamond) - anyone tried?

Hi,
The problem is that you use the comma character to separate the decimal part, whereas kml files use the dot
this is:
google: -112.0814237830345,36.10677870477137
you: -112,0814237830345,36,10677870477137
I replaced the commas for dots and now google shows the route correctly
BTW, the Z coordinate is not needed, as you guessed.
Please fix this, I love this software!!!
Thank You, your tools sounds great !! It runs on my Diamond, but i Am inhouse at the moment, so no gps signal, but it works so far. can you explain the "GPS sample validity" a little more, please ? i donßt understand your readme. And "GPS activity", does it mean that the tool saves point in this time frame or that GPS is activated after this time, send the position, goes off and wait for some minutes ? And when it goes on, how long do it try to receive a signal ? For example, if i go in a house, does it start the gps and try to receive for hours or does it switch the gps off after some time ?
I hope you keep developing, very good start for the concept. Is there a chance to improve the design ? Maybe in Manila style ? Like the small "stopwatch 1.01" tool, simple, but great design, improves it a lot !!

Would love to make a bit nicer design, but have not learn yet how to do skins ... Anyone would like to try? - the source code it attached
Regarding start/stop : if you select an option "GPS activity" "run every xx sec", then:
1) as soon as you get a valid sample (to decide that it is valid - the second option is used "GPS sample valid xx sec") - GPS is switched OFF and a timer started for xx sec.
2) as timer expires, it starts GPS
3) GPS starts searching and as soon it get a valid sample (see 1)...
So, it means that you need to add "search time" to "timer time" - that will be your distance between samples. Clearly, the longer the timer time, it will takes longer for GPS to get a valid sample again.
The battery usage is printed at start/stop - I specially added this to estimate usage. I did not have much chance to test, but with "GPS always on" and "3 sec valid time" (as you load the file back, it shows as "gps options 0/3 sec" after file name) - I think it shall run for
about 3 hours.
BTW, I noticed the application hangs sometimes when it frequently start/stop GPS (I tried 5 sec / 5 sec), AND you have a few other applications running (blame Microsoft ... it was not me). I guess the GPS start/stop is a bit stressful for the system, so this could explain. I am looking into this. At default mode (0/3 sec) all seems works fine. Again - look at source code, maybe you have some suggestions?

Thank you so mutch
I searched many, many time for a tool like this!
I will try it, today evening....
Great Job
great app - a suggestion
This is a fantastic app...I love the simplicity and the functionality.
I'm trying to find something that is as close to Nokia's sports tracker as possible for WM6.1 and this is near as perfect.
One suggestion for added functionality...
is it possible to add markers to show:
fastest point
slowest point
highest point
lowest point
These are then visible on the .kml file in google earth/maps.
Keep up the good work!
cheers, cojo
I will be posting the latest version into the first post, so please check it for updates. The latest update is for KML output fix, also I added GPX output day before.
Re battery usage - I noticed that as you switch GPS on, the battery reduces quickly (which looks ok, as battery current increases, so voltage drops), but then it drains the battery not as fast. I.e. 20 min run might not be an indication how long it will last.
Hy Andy,
the 1) part makes me a little bit worried. Can you change that to a number of sattelites used or a certain hdop to decide that a signal is valid instead of taking a "GPS sample valid xx sec"
I really like your tool It would be nice to have a option for the folder where the logs should be stored.

I think I was not very clear about "valid xx sec" - Of course, first of all I check that the position/velocity/heigth is "valid" - this information is provided by the GPS. I.e. this means that you have proper GPS lock first. Also each gps sample has time stamp, so I additionally check that the sample is fresh enough. This seems useful when you switch "off" GPS, then switch it "on" - and it could return "old" sample at start.
Regarding the location of the stored files - I thought it is quite easy to remember that these are stored with the application (so you do not need to search for them...). If you would like to change the folder, the easiest would be to copy the tool in any place you like! I just wanted to keep the number of buttons (and options) to very minimum ...

The Definitive Guide to Microsoft Voice Command (MSVC) for the Kaiser/Tilt - 2.0
*** UPDATED 9/16/2008 ***
PLEASE READ THIS FIRST POST (AND ANY REFERENCED SECTIONS) BEFORE ASKING ANY QUESTIONS!
Hello and welcome to the Definitive Guide for Microsoft Voice Command (MSVC) on the Kaiser/Tilt. I hope that this resource is effective in getting MSVC working to a satisfactory level on your device. As you go through this guide, please remember the following:
I am not a programmer or Windows Mobile engineer. I am just a tech-savvy user with an IT background. All the information I have discovered on this product was by reading what was available from all over the web and doing many tests on my own.
I am not affiliated with Microsoft in any way. I have no special insight as to why Microsoft doesn’t offer better support on this product.
I maintain this guide on my own time. Therefore I can only update it and answer questions when I have the time, which will most likely be less and less as time goes on…
THIS GUIDE IS FOR THE HTC KAISER and AT&T TILT! While it is quite possible much of the information in this guide will help you on other devices, I wrote this with the Kaiser/Tilt in mind. This is because I own a Tilt and so that is what I can perform tests on. If you own a device other than the Kaiser/Tilt then by all means read the guide and absorb its information. More likely than not if the answer isn’t in the guide I won’t be able to help with it. Look to a device specific forum for help.
How to post your issues with MSVC:
BEFORE POSTING:
READ THE ENTIRE GUIDE - There is a lot of information here and 85%+ of the time you will find what you need herein.
FOLLOW THE TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION – Make sure you read and re-read the troubleshooting section and try ALL remedies before posting.
If after the above you are still having issues with MSVC on your device, please post your information in the following format to allow myself and other members to easily assist. Please keep in mind all the above information before posting:
ROM: Version of ROM you are using (be specific!)
MSVC Version: Version of MSVC. (You can find this under Start > Settings > Voice Command)
Bluetooth: Your bluetooth headset model
Description: Provide a detailed description of what problem you are having, how to recreate it, as well as what you have attempted to do to remedy it.On to the Guide...!
Documenting Microsoft Voice Command (MSVC) functionality has proved to be a lengthy (and tricky!) proposition. There are many scattered posts out there as to how to install and configure it. I hope to bring as much information as I can to this central location. I will also offer some custom tools to overcome some of the current limitations of MSVC. For information on what MSVC is, or basic information on how to use it, please refer to the official Microsoft site for MSVC here
There are several steps to get MSVC working; generally they fall into the following categories:
Obtaining MSVC (or locating an installed copy)
Installing/Upgrading MSVC
Testing Basic MSVC functionality
Mapping a button to MSVC
Configuring the BT headset
Configuring Incoming Call Announcements
Obtaining MSVC:
Use a ROM with MSVC already installed – This is probably the best way to do it. In many cases if you have ROM with MSVC already installed you hopefully won’t need most of this guide. Official ROMS with MSVC should work out of the box. In addition, most cooks who include MSVC spend some time ensuring that it works. You may still want to refer to the guide to tweak or optimize your MSVC installation.
Purchase a copy of MSVC – If you don’t have a ROM with MSVC installed, you can purchase a copy from various online vendors. Be aware that the retail versions of MSVC currently for sale may not function fully on newer Windows Mobile devices.
Download a copy of MSVC – You can download a copy of MSVC from this guide or another location. The legality of downloading copies of MSVC has been much disputed and more information on that below.
MSVC Versions
RETAIL VERSIONS:
1.5 – There are retails version of MSVC 1.5. These are very outdated, and will not work on Windows Mobile 6.0+ devices. I will not discuss them here
1.6.4622 - Retail localized versions (available in US, UK, and French versions). Should work on WM 6.0 but WITHOUT incoming announcements.
1.6.17913 - Updated retail US version. Should work with some WM 6.0 and 6.1 builds.
EMBEDDED VERSIONS:
1.6.19209 - Embedded WM 6.0 US version, not available for retail. Should work with most WM 6.0 and 6.1 builds. RECOMMENDED FOR 6.0 devices.
1.6.19213 – Updated WM 6.1 US version. Should work with newest 6.1 builds. RECOMMENDED FOR 6.1 devices.
1.6.19214 – Latest WM 6.1 US version. Should work with newest 6.1 builds. RECOMMENDED FOR 6.1 devices.
You will note that the Microsoft has not release a retail version since 1.6.17913. Unfortunately most 6.0 and 6.1 device will not work without at least version 1.6.19209 or newer. This has left the user community in a difficult position: User’s cannot buy a working version, but the legality of obtaining an updated version has been put into question.
With the latest HTC official ROM release for the Kaiser, MSVC is included. Because of this many accept that MSVC is now in the public domain for usage, since anyone can download this ROM. In reality, you should probably be an AT&T customer or own a retail version of MSVC in order to use the newer non-retail versions.
Below are downloadable copies of non-retail MSVC versions below. These CABs were created by packaging the appropriate embedded files and registry entries from the various test and official ROMs that HTC/AT&T has released and that are available for download elsewhere on this forum.
NOTE: I have not been able to find any discernable differences between the functionality of .19209, .19213, and .19214. In fact, I continue to use .19209 because of this. This guide was written with 1.6.19209 in mind.

Download MSVC 1.6.19213
Download MSVC 1.6.19214
Notes on Older Versions, Methods, and Hacks
This information is provided for informational purposes only. It is not recommended that you use these older methods, but rather run one of the newer MSVC versions.
Version 1.60.4622 (Localized versions) has been tested to work but WITHOUT incoming announcements (either to phone or BT). To get incoming announcements to work you can replace the voicecmd.exe with the version from 1.6.17913 or 1.6.19209.
The file voicecommandreplacementfiles.zip that is circulating is simply a set of 4 files from version 1.6.17913. Copying these over your current installation in effect upgrades it to that version. There should be no need to apply those files if you are running 1.6.17913 or above.
The older methods of updating the audio gateway and using xcsdm's BTVoiceCommand (the 0.9f hack) do not seem to be valid for the Kaiser. Covering these methods is out of scope of this guide, but you can find more information by searching xda-developers and looking at info for other devices like the Hermes. Check out the section on MSVC here
How to Determine MSVC Version
To determine which version of MSVC is running on a device, do the following:
Go to Start > Settings > Personal Tab > Voice Command
This is the Voice Command settings applet. Open the applet to see the version number you are running.
Installing/Upgrading MSVC
Installing MSVC is as simple as running the CAB to install.
NOTE: Always install MSVC to your device's internal system memory, not to an external storage card.
In general MSVC will be installed in one of two locations:
\Windows – This is common on devices using ROMS with MSVC already built-in.
\Program Files\Voice Command – This is common on devices where MSVC has been installed separately from a .CAB file. Most retail versions will install in this method, as well as the embedded CABs offered for download from this guide. This method is preferred, as it isolates the MSVC files and allows for easier upgrading.
Once MSVC is installed, you should reboot your device and then follow the instructions above for determining MSVC version to see if it installed.
To upgrade MSVC you should first uninstall the old version and reboot before attempting to install the newer version.
Unfortunately, if you have a ROM with MSVC built-in it may impossible to upgrade. This is because ROMs with MSVC built-in have files which cannot be overwritten, as they are burned into the ROM. All of MSVC can be placed in alternate locations except for the Voice Command applet in Settings. This must always be placed in the \Windows directory. As most ROMs place their MSVC files in the \Windows directory, you can attempt to install one of the non-retail versions offered in this guide. This would mean that you would be using the old applet file, and MSVC may function improperly, or not at all. For more information, see the additional information section.
Testing Basic MSVC Functionality
The purpose of this guide is not to walk step-by-step on how to use MSVC, suffice it to say that once you have installed the application, or located your installation, you should be able to use it to a basic degree. To test basic functionality, do the following:
Locate the voicecmd.exe file. This will be in the MSVC installation directory or \Windows. Usually a shortcut is also created in the Startup folder.
Click to run the file (sometimes you may need to click it 2 or three times to initialize).
When launched, you should hear a beep and a microphone icon appear at the top of the screen.
You should now be able to speak into your phone (not BT at this point) and get MSVC to respond. You can try saying “help” and MSVC should respond with some options. You can also try “dial 555-1212” (or some other number) to make sure it begins to dial.
To my knowledge, there are no issues with getting MSVC to work through the local speakers (assuming you are using a version appropriate to your Windows Mobile version). If you can click the “voicecmd” executable in the proper directory, hear the beep, and get the microphone icon to appear then you should be able to speak to MSVC to get it to dial, etc.
Mapping a button to MSVC
We obviously don’t want to have to manually run the voicecmd.exe every time we want to issue a voice command. The easy solution is to map a button.
In most cases you only need to map a button to MVC if you want to launch if from your phone. By this I mean if you only plan on initiating MSVC via your BT headset then you do not necessarily need to do this. However, for purposes of testing, I recommend you map a button and then you can remove the mapping once your BT works.
*In some instances it appears that the Bluetooth headset device may not trigger MSVC if a button is not mapped. If you are having problems initiating MSVC from your headset, I recommend you try and map a button.
Mapping a button to MSVC is as simple as going into Start > Settings > Buttons and changing any button to launch Voice Command.
The challenge is that most peoplewant to keep their buttons how they are and instead remap the PTT button (the one on the top-left side of the phone) to launch MSVC.
If you would like to remap your PTT button to MSVC, do the following:
Download and install on your phone one of the popular registry editors (PHM RegEdit, Resco, etc…).
Goto HKLM\Software\ Microsoft\Shell\Keys
- Add a new key named "40C6"
- Add a new string value under the key called "Name" with a value of "Button 6" (or anything else you may want to call it, like “PTT”)
You can test that this is created properly by going back to Start > Settings > Buttons and you should now see the button listed. Choose to change this button to “Voice Command.”
You have now mapped the button to MSVC! There are two issues however: The first is that this won’t work until after a soft reset. The second is that a soft reset will cause the PTT service to overwrite the change you just did! Therefore, our only option is to remove the PTT service.
To remove the PTT service do the following:
Goto HKLM\Services\PTT
Delete the entire “PTT” Key. (NOTE: You may wish to backup/export this key first with your registry editor.)
Soft-reset your device. You should now be able to launch MSVC from the PTT button!
Remember, if you have another application handling your device’s buttons (like AE Button Plus), you may not need to do any of this. In addition, if you prefer to use a button other than PTT, simply map the button without the above tasks.
Configuring the BT Headset
This is probably one of the more problematic issues that people encounter. Various results have been reported with trying to get your BT headset to launch MSVC. Sometimes it does nothing, other times it redials the last number or, if you’re lucky, it will actually just work!
The key configuration point appears to be a registry key named BTAGExtModule. I believe this stands for: BlueTooth Audio Gateway Extension Module. As its name suggests it is an extension to Bluetooth which controls what application to launch and thus establish an audio gateway between your BT headset and your phone.
NOTE: In some cases this is the critical and only step you need to get MSVC working. On some devices the BTAGExtModule is set to OEMAGW.DLL. Setting it to VCBTHAG.DLL and resetting is all that is need to get MSVC working!
There are several options you can enter here and you may need to do some experimentation. The important thing is that whatever file you enter for the value of the BTAGExtModule must actually exist on your phone! Be sure to use File Explorer and browse to whatever directory you are specifying any make sure the file exits (be sure to turn on “Show All Files in Explorer options!”).
In all my tests, I am using the 1.6.19209 build of MSVC and therefore the proper gateway to use is “vcbthag.dll” (Voice Command Blue Tooth Audio Gateway). This is true of all later versions as well.
For informational purposes, here are all the audio gateways that are known to exist:
VCBTHAG.DLL – This is the audio gateway included in all of the versions of MSVC I have tested. It always appears to work in all my tests and I suggest you use this one.
OEMAGW.DLL – This is the OEM Audio Gateway. I assume it can be customized by the OEM, or rather the OEM renames whatever gateway they want to use to this filename. It may not exist on your phone, or may not do anything at all.
BTAGTEXT.DLL – This is another audio gateway. It may be generic, but I think it may have also been the default in earlier versions of MSVC. I don’t think you should ever need to use this one, but I mention it because I believe it was used in previous solutions.
To check your audio gateway:
Goto HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
Ensure BTAGExtModule is set to “\Windows\vcbthag.dll” or “\Program Files\Voice Command\vcbthag.dll” (or another location depending on where your MSVC files are located).
SOFT RESET the phone
Wait about 60 seconds after restart to ensure all services are started
You should now be able to use your BT headset to initiate the audio gateway and initialize Voice Command.
Be sure you pair your BT headset with a “hands-free” profile!
Click your BT button and you should hear the MSVC “beep” and see the microphone icon. You should now be able to speak MSVC commands to initialize a call, etc.
TIP: You may want to walk about 10 feet away from your phone to test this. This will make sure that your voice commands are being send through your headset and aren’t just being picked up by your phone microphone. I have not seen this problem recently, although some people have claimed this issue previously.
Configuring Incoming Call Announcments
Incoming call announcements are another major hurdle with MSVC. Even on an otherwise functioning Voice Command, the incoming announcements won’t always function properly. One of three behaviors occurs:
No incoming announcements at all
Incoming announcements come only from the phone, and not from the BT headset.
Incoming announcements work properly…which is of course what we want!
I believe the issues with incoming announcements not working are due to one of two reasons:
An older version of MSVC (pre 1.6.17913) - In actuality, the file voicecmd.exe is solely responsible for incoming announcements. Whether or not they work for you is dependent on your version of that file. See the beginning of this article for information about proper MSVC versions and how to obtain them.
Incorrect MSVC settings – In some cases, MSVC simply isn’t set up properly. This is what I would like to detail here.
To ensure your MSVC is properly set up for incoming announcements, do the following:
Go to Start > Settings > Personal Tab > Voice Command
Ensure “Enabled” is checked (you probably wouldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t!).
Scroll down to “Phone” and make sure it is checked.
With “Phone” highlighted click “Options”
Check “Announce Incoming Calls”
Click OK to go back to the main Voice Command screen
Click “Notifications” and set your notification options.
Now place a call to your phone and you should have the incoming call announced. If the number is in your phone book it should speak the name, otherwise it will speak the phone number.
Where the announcement comes from (device speaker BT headset will depend on your Notification options.
Please read the following sections for more information on this!
Important Notes regarding Incoming Announcements
Location of incoming call announcements are a function of the “Notifications” settings in the MSVC applet. There are 3 setting in this dialog:
“Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only” - Use this if you want incoming announcement ONLY to come in over your BT headset and not your phone.
“Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free if available” – Use this if you want incoming announcements to come in over both BT when BT device is available (and BT is on) or on your phone’s speakers (when not using BT).
“Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only.” – Use this if you want to have incoming announcements ONLY come through your speakerphone under any circumstances.
ISSUE #1:
Incoming announcements (and ring tone) don't come through BOTH the BT headset AND the speakerphone simultaneously.
The problem here lies in the fact that if you have option #1 or #2 set AND BT is on, announcements/rings will only go to your BT headset. This may be inconvenient if your headset is not in your ear. Here is a summary of what will happen when using option #1 or #2:
If MSVC is DISABLED and BT is DISABLED then an incoming call will ring normally on your phone.
If MSVC is DISABLED and BT is ENABLED then an incoming call will ring normally on the phone AND your BT headset will ring with its built-in ring tone.
If MSVC is ENABLED and BT is DISABLED then an incoming call will ring ONLY on the phone. If incoming announcements are on, these will also play only through the phone.
If MSVC is ENABLED and BT is ENABLED and INCOMING NOTIFICATIONS are ON then an incoming call will announce/ring on ONLY the BT headset. (NOTE: you will actually hear the phone’s ring tone coming through your BT headset along with the incoming notification).
If MSVC is ENABLED and BT is ENABLED and INCOMING NOTIFICATIONS are OFF then an incoming call will ring on both the phone (normal ring) and the BT headset (built-in ring). No announcements will be heard.
SOLUTIONS:
If you aren’t happy with any of the scenarios presented above by choosing notification options #1 and #2 then you have the option to use notification option #3, "Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only." Of course this will allow you to hear notifications over the device speaker, but not over BT.
One other option which appears to work, but is not fully tested is to set your phone to also vibrate for calls. It seems from my limited testing that the phone will vibrate even if incoming announcements are directed to the BT headset.
Again, these are not the best of all possible worlds, but there are some other options. For more information, see the next post.
ISSUE #2:
Calls from PRIVATE or UNKNOWN numbers do not seem to always (most of the time) properly announce. In fact, they will cut the ring off when using incoming announcements. As of current, I am not aware of any fix for this. This happens with incoming announcements over the phone AND the BT headset.
This issue seem to be coded into the Voice Command files themselves. When MSVC is enabled it installs some sort of proxy between the phone’s hardware to intercept incoming calls. It does this whether or not you turn on incoming announcements. This IS NOT related to the audio issues. In fact, if you put in a false value for the BTAGExtModule value then you will not be able to initiate MSVC from your BT however all the ringing issues still exist!
SOLUTIONS:
None
Additional Information Regarding MSVC
List of File and Registry Entries for Voice Command
Attached is a .ZIP with 4 files. 2 .REG files (one for 1.6.17913 and one for 1.6.19209) and 2 .CSV files (one for 1.6.17913 and one for 1.6.19209) listing files.
The information for 1.6.17913 is gathered from an official .CAB file and should be everything you would expect if you installed a retail copy of MSVC.
Since there exists no official version of 1.6.19209 I pulled the information from a recent decompiled AT&T 6.1 ROM. Since this is a built-in version of Voice Command, all files would be installed in the \Windows directory (apart from shortcuts in StartUp).
The .CAB for 1.6.19209 that I offer above is actually a conglomeration of these two. It uses all the updated 1.6.19209 files while maintaining a proper directory structure (In this case using Program Files\MS Voice Command instead of dumping everything in \Windows). It also maintains those files that were not present in the ROM's 1.6.19209 files, namely those dealing with WMP skins. I attempted to make it as close as to what an "official" version might look like from Microsoft.
Built-in versions and manual installs
MSVC, like all applications installs files and registry entries onto your device. The problem with using a Stock or Cooked ROM with MSVC pre-installed is that it may not have been installed correctly (with all the correct files or registry entries). Additionally, because pre-installed applications are often embedded in the ROM and you cannot always move or update files with working versions (because ROM files are read-only). Because of this, it may be easiest to use a ROM that doesn’t have MSVC pre-installed. However by modifying files, locations, and registry entries you may be able to get MSVC working.
Because of these limitationsit is necessary to understand a few things about how MSVC files work.
As I have already covered, MSVC files are generally installed in one of two locations:
\Windows
\Program Files\Voice Command
Generally, if you are in the built-in boat, your files will be installed in \Windows
How does MSVC know where to look for your files?
Well, the first thing to know is where and how is MSVC usually initiated:
The answer is one of three ways:
From your \Windows\StartUp folder when WM first boots
When manually launched from the shortcut or a button
When called from the BT audio gateway to receive a voice command
For #1 and #2 you will generally want to ensure that the version of MSVC being launched is the one you want. There will generally be a shortcut to your copy of MSVC (specifically the voicecmd.exe file) that launches the application in the \Windows\StartUp folder. Therefore, if you want to install a different version of this exe (and if you can’t overwrite it and need to install it to a different location) make a NEW shortcut in \Windows\StartUp to launch your new copy.
Once voicecmd.exe is launched it will want to look for the rest of its files. It knows where to look by accessing the registry at this location:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command
The two keys to pay close attention to are:
AppInstallPath and ResourcePath
The value of AppInstallPath should be the full path to the copy of voicecmd.exe that you want to use, for example:
"\Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCmd.exe"
Or
“\Windows\VoiceCmd.exe”
The value of ResourcePath should be the full path to the directory that the supporting files are stored in, for example:
“\Program Files\Voice Command”
Or
“\Windows”
Changing these two keys, along with the shortcuts should effectively allow you to bypass a built-in version of VC in lieu of file versions that you want to use. If the keys don’t exist in the root of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command you can create them as string values.
You will also want to update your BT Audio Gateway so that the proper gateway is launched from your BT headset. Find it at the following location:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
Set BTAGExtModule to the full path to the copy of the audio gateway dll being used, for example:
“\Windows\vcbthag.dll”
Or
“\Program Files\Voice Command\vcbthag.dll”
EXAMPLE:
If I have a built-in version of MSVC with all files in \Windows, and I wanted to update to a different build I would do the following:
Install all files into a new location, e.g. “\Program Files\NewVC”
Update AppInstallPath to “\Program Files\NewVC\VoiceCmd.exe”
Update ResourcePath to “\Program Files\NewVC”
Update BTAGExtModule to “\Program Files\NewVC\vcbthag.dll”
Delete shortcuts that point to “\Windows\VoiceCmd.exe” and create new ones that point to “\Program Files\NewVC\VoiceCmd.exe”
NOTE: The VoiceCommand_PPC.cpl file may pose an issue becuase as a control applet, it always needs to remain in the \Windows directory. If you can't overwrite this file you may still be ok since you should be able to use a copy of VoiceCommand_PPC.cpl that is different from the other file versions.
NOW AVAILABLE - Manual install for 1.6.19209 to help assist in this process. It is available here. Additional instructions enclosed.
How Incoming Announcements Work (Under the Hood)
Incoming Announcements are the function of the voicecmd.exe and the following registry key:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce
"Script" = "as5p"
"Category" = "VoiceCommand1"
"Sound" = "Application Data\Volatile\TTSCallerID.wav"
When a call comes in and MSVC is enabled it checks itself to see if it should be performing incoming announcements. If it is configured to play announcements it uses the above settings. The “Script” section is similar to the scripts used for normal ring profiles, it basically is telling it to play the file listed in “Sound”
The file in “Sound” is dynamically generated for each call and then played over your ringtone as your announcement.
On versions where Incoming Announcements don’t work (like UK version 1.60.4622.0) the settings are the same, but the voicecmd.exe file does not properly generate the TTSCallerID.wav and thus no announcements are made.
The Private/Unknown caller issue is also related, as voicecmd.exe doesn’t seem to properly generate the file. It actually appears to leave the .wav file open since it doesn’t know how to properly output “private” or “unknown” this locking of the file appears to be why no ringtone plays at all.
This also appears to be why occasionally you will get an announcement of the last caller's ID when you get a Private call. It hasn't properly cleared out the old TTSCallerID.wav and is replaying the last one in queue.
Troubleshooting, Tweaks, and Tips
TROUBLESHOOTING
Remember that an app alone is not responsible for how it functions. Cooked ROMs and 3rd party software can all interfere with the operation of not just another application, but the OS itself. There are quite a few fantastic cooked ROMs out there that incorporate MSVC successfully, and many other individuals are running it. Chances are it can work for you, but you may be forced to try a different ROM.
INSTALLATION/UPGRADING:
Always use a current version of MSVC
Always install to main device memory (no storage card!)
Always remove previous versions first (when possible).
Soft-reset after any install/uninstall of previous versions.
Soft-reset after making any change to files or registy
Always read and re-read this guide to ensure that your problem isn't already listed
APPLICATION HANG/NON-RESPONSIVENESS
Disable and then enable it in Start > Settings > Voice Command
BLUETOOTH:
Delete and re-pair your Bluetooth headset
Try a different bluetooth headset
Ensure it works through the device speakers (without a bluetooth headset)
Talk loudly and clearly
Use a non-A2DP BT headset (or disable A2DP)
If using a car-kit, or another BT device with voice recognition, it may be best to disable MSVC and use the car-kit's built-in voice recognition abilities.
RECOGNITION:
Ensure that you are not using a localized version (for example trying to dial UK formatted numbers with an EU version).
CONFIRMATIONS:
By default, when you say "Call contact" MSVC will speak a confirmation and wait for you to say "Yes/No" or "Correct/Incorrect." Some devices (and older versions of MSVC) will cut off before accepting the confirmation. The only solution is to upgrade and if that doesn't work, turn off confirmations. This will cause the call to initiate immediately after speaking "Call contact." The downside is that you will not have the option to cancel the call via MSVC. However, MSVC will still repeat the name/number back to you so you can cancel it via your BT headset buttons.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Please see the appropriate sections on incoming announcements and see my MSVC tools for more information.
BUTTON MAPPING:
If your button mapping stops launching MSVC, try to remap the button to another application, save the changes, then remap back to MSVC.

MORE BELOW!
TWEAKS
There aren't too many additional tweaks you can do with MSVC. If you have information on additional tweaks, please advise:
Change Speech Speed - If your friendly MSVC assistanct Michelle is talking too slow or too fast for you, you can change her speed.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Speech\Voices
Change the value of "DefaultTTSRate" from between 1 (slowest) and 10 (fastest). Default if 4. I prefer 0 as it is not that slow and makes her a little clearer to understand.
Change MSVC to another voice - Can't be done! At least not any way that has been discovered. The various localized versions (US vs. UK, etc.) use different voices, but part of this configuration appears to be hard-coded into the application.
Change the sounds MSVC uses - Can't be done! The following registry keys exist dealing with sounds for MSVC:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command\Speech\Earcons]
"SRDirectedEarcon"="SRDirected.wav"
"TimeoutEarcon"="SRAsleep.wav"
"PTTEarcon"="SRAwake.wav"
If you remove or change these values the sounds go away, so they are definitely linked to these keys. But the issue is these files don't exist! So the sounds are apparently built into the program code. I have played around with changing these values to redirect to other sounds with no success.
Change Bluetooth PTT Delay - When you press the button on your BT headset to initiate MSVC two things happen: Your audio gateway opens to pass your voice to the phone AND MSVC initiates on the phone to accept your command. Some BT headsets take a while to establish their audio gateway. Because of this MSVC may open before the audio gateway is established. This can cause your voice to get cut off or decrease your recognition. To increase or decrease the delay from when you push your BT headset to when MSVC "picks up" do the following:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command\Speech
Add/Change a DWORD value "BluetoothPTTDelay"
Add a value in milliseconds (ms) - I believe the default is about 400ms. I'm not sure how high a value it will accept, but I think it maxes out at somewhere between 2-4000 (2-4 seconds). A value of "2000" should be good if you need a longer delay. Alternatively, you can try setting this to 0 if your BT gateway establishes quickly...this may make MSVC pick up quicker.
SOFT RESET!
Change Recognizer Timeout - When the MSVC Microphone appears at the top of your screen, you have 4 seconds to start talking before it closes. If you want to increase or decrease this interval do the following:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command\Speech
Add/Change a DWORD value "SRTimeout"
Add a value in milliseconds (ms) - The default is "4000" (4 seconds). I'm not sure how high a value it will accept, but I have tested it between 0 and 8000. 8000 is an 8 second timeout and 0 causes it to not listen to a word you say!
SOFT RESET!
Change Rejection and Ignore Threshholds - When you speak a voice command, MSVC attempts to understand what you say. It assigns your speech a confidence level based on its interpretation on a scale from 1 to 100. It compares the confidence level to the IgnoreThreshold (default 10). If the confidence level is less than the IgnoreThreshold it discards the command. This would happen if you said something that MSVC doesn't understand at all like "cook me breakfast." It would assign a very low confidence level based on it's matching techniques. It would then most likely discard this and do nothing further. If what you say is somewhat recognizable to MSVC, meaning it is above the IgnoreThreshold it will attempt to interpret it. It will compare the confidence level to the RejectionThreshold (default 36). If the confidence level is less than the RejectionThreshold, but GREATER than the IgnoreThreshold that means that it won't reject you, but it isn't 100% sure. In this case you will be asked to "Try again" or "Please Repeat." Otherwise, if your confidence level is above the RejectionThreshold that means MSVS thinks it understood you and will do its best to interpret your command to one in its set. To change the values of these thresholds to better tune MSVC to your vocal tones, you can modify the following:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Voice Command\Speech
Change DWORD value "IgnoreThreshold" or "RejectionThreshold"
Soft-reset
Adjusting Volume of Announcements - There are two values that seem to influence the volume of announcements. They are stored within the following key:
HKCU\Control Panel\Sound Categories\Voice Command1
The values are:
AttenutationCategory
InitVol
There are apparently different default setting based on your device. In general the values are generally around 1-4 for AttenuationCategory and 1-5 for InitVol. Some research shows that setting InitVol to 40 and AttenuationCategory to 1 provide the best results. In my testing I have found the InitVol to do nothing. The AttenuationCategory definitely does something, it seems the lower the number the lower the voice. When set it to 0 the announcements were very faint. Setting it higher made them higher, although I can't say that anything over 4 or 5 got any louder.
In my findings I would say set both of these to 5 (I have read some other posts that lead me to believe setting InitVol over 5 is pointless, in addition, the posts that recommend setting it to 40 don't specify if that is decimal or hex).
Adjusting Incoming announcements while on a call - Incoming announcements will come in if they are enabled...even when you are on a call. The only time they will not is if your time is marked as "busy" in your calendar. See my MSVC tools for ways around this and other announcement issues.
TIPS
Windows Media Player Voice Commands:
Apparently MSVC doesn't properly read ID3v2 tags. If you want it to understand you properly you should use ID3v1. Find out more info here. (courtesy nonsequitir).
Problems using "Dial":
Some people have issues with the "Dial" command in MSVC. This often occurs when trying to dial numbers that are different than the standard dialing system for the country that the version of MSVC supports. The workaround for this would be to create a contact and use the "Call" command instead.
Use the nickname field to improve recognition accuracy:
From Microsoft: "You can name contacts with nicknames such as Home, Mom, or Dentist. After doing this, you can call by simply saying Call Home, etc. If you have a contact that you consistently cannot access, try adding a nick name that looks the way that you might pronounce it."
To add a nickname to a user, edit the contact. Click the arrow to the right of the contact's name to bring down an advanced dialog box that allows you to specify a nickname.
Jawbone 2 Users:
In order to initiate MSVC from this headset, you do not press the talk button. Instead you hold the Noise Assassin button for 2 seconds. (courtesy Mario23)
Additional MSVC Tools - For Incoming Announcment Issues
Microsoft Voice Command Toggle Script
This tool presents my solution to the above issues with incoming announcements coming to both the BT headset and the phone. Others, like myself would prefer MSVC to deliver incoming announcements to the BT headset AND speakerphone simultaneously. The main reason for this is that ideally, we want the announcement coming to our BT, but out BT might not always be in our ear. Therefore it would be nice to for the announcement to come to the phone as well so we don’t miss a call.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem possible with the current version of MSVC. But I have written a simple script to give the next best thing.
The basic idea the script uses is this:
When the BT headset is in the ear, Notification option #2 is chosen (“Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free if available”).
When we want to remove out BT headset, the script quickly toggles to option #3 (“Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only.”)
This allows the BT channel to remain in its default state and simply redirects through a toggle of the notification option where you want the announcement to come out. By mapping this script to a button (like PTT) you can quickly toggle your phone when you remove or replace the headset from your ear.
The below file is a .CAB file that will install MortScript onto your phone as well as my MSVC Toggle Script. It will place the script into your Start\Programs\Tools so that you can then map it to a button of your choosing. I will also post the separate .mscr file for those that already have MortScript installed. (Warning: Installing and then removing the CAB file may also remove MortScript).
Basically MortScript is a application that allows the creation of advanced scripts to control the device and applications.
The MSVC Toggle script works in the following way:
When you initiate the MSVC Toggle either by a button or clicking, it first attempts to determine where your MSVC is installed. The application only supports MSVC installations to \Program Files\Voice Command or \Windows. You will get 3 warning buzzes and the application will quit if it is installed elsewhere. (Specifically it is looking for the location of the VoiceCommand_PPC.cpl file, which should almost always be in \Windows).
Once the application is located, the script simply toggles between notification option #2 (BT headset announcements) and #3 (speakerphone announcements).
However, changing the registry key isn’t enough as the changes aren't loaded into MSVC running memory. So, the next thing the script does is reload MSVC settings by opening and closing the MSVC applet. You will see the MSVC applet briefly flash on the screen and then close.
You will then feel a quick vibration to let you know the toggle has completed There will be a short (250ms) vibration when switching to option #2 (BT announcement) and a longer (500ms) vibration when switching to option #3 (Phone announcement).
It’s that simple!
Free/Busy Toggle Script
Another issue with incoming announcements is that they often "announce" at inopportune times, like when you are already on a call, or in a meeting. One way to prevent this is to se the notification option "only during free time". Free/Busy time is normally determined if you have an appointment in your calendar that sets your disposition to Free/Busy. So, if you have a meeting scheduled in your calendar and the time is set to "busy" you won't get announcments if this option is selected. However this is inconvinient to have to go in and create an appointment everytime you want to be marked as "busy". Luckily, I have found a location in the registry which records that information and have used it in the following tool.
FreeBusyToggle Script works like the MSVCToggle Script from above. It installs into the same \Programs\Tools folder and uses MortScript. For easy use you should map it to a key.
When you run the script it will make one short beep indicating your time is set to free, or two short beeps indicating your time has been set to busy.
So, if you are going to be taking calls or in a meeting, press to toggle till you get the two beeps and then your time is set to busy and you won't get announcments. After the meeting, press again and your time will be set back to free.
Not a perfect solution...but That's It!

He deleted all his stuff, but i provided a link to the snap shot that google took of it before he did so, if you would like to access it it is at the top of the page.
as for posting his stuff i think that as long as you do not claim it as your own you should be able to post it
if you have anything you would like to add i can put it in the original posts (sorry if i missed anything i was just trying to get it up)
edit: Yes discussion is allowed but he deleted most of his stuff or his forums are closed. This repost was approved by a mod(thats why i can say reposting his stuff should be fine.)

Refresh, move up list to find.

But so, is it enough, to copy the new voicecmd.exe over them, or should we need to add the other three files from voicecommandreplacementfiles.zip as well ?
Thanks !
Hi all -- I do not know any of the specifics, and I really don't care, of exactly why bengalih left, but since this thread represents his work, I do not think it inappropriate to provide you a link where you can interact with him directly.

Hey,
I checked out all the settings mentioned in the first page ... but the announce voice is not working at all with receiving proceedure (sms, phone called ...etc); however VC is working normally when I give/say a command!
My MSCV v1.6.19971
My Radio version: 1.02.25.19
Any suggestions?
Read subject of email
When I was using msvoice in wm6.0 I could have msvoice anounce the name of sender and the subject of the email. I can't seem to get it to work in wm6.1 with msvoice .209.
Any thoughts?

The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.

Prevent Users from Installing Applications on your Blue Angel
1) Go to the HKLM\ControlPanel\AdminPassword\ key.
2) Rename the "Redirect" value to "xRedirect".
3) Soft reset.
4) Go to Start > Settings > System tab > Policy applet to set the policy restriction on the device.
This enables the built in Policy Editor on Pocket PC which can be used to prevent the addition of applications to your device.
Disable the Flashing Right Side Red/Green LED
1) Go to the HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\NLEDMgr key.
2) Rename the "Dll" value to "xDll"
3) Soft reset.
This COMPLETELY disables the right LED for ALL alerts.
The same can be done for the Left Blue LED by renaming the "Dll" value under the BWLEDMgr key.
For WM6 & WM6.1 do the following
1) Go to the HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\NLEDMgr\
2) set Index to 0
3) Go to HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\NLed\
4) Rename the "Dll" value to "xDll"
5) Soft reset, and your Green LED is flashing is disabled.
Put Date and Time in Top Bar
1) Go to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell key.
2) Add a Binary value called "TBOpt" if it does not already exist.
3) Set the value to "0x 00 00 00" where x=0 (Nothing), x=1 (Time), x=2 (Date) and x=3 (Date and Time)
4) Soft reset.
Change the Long Date to Your Own Format
1) Go to the HKLM\nls\Overrides key.
2) Add a String value called "SLDte" if it does not already exist.
3) Set the value to a valid date format (ie for "Tuesday 8 February 2005" use "dddd d MMMM yyyy")
4) Soft reset.
Disable the Start Menu Animation
1) Go to the HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu key.
2) Set the "AniType" value data to 0 (Set to 6 to return to full animation).
3) Soft reset.
Enable Window Animation
1) Go to the HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE key.
2) Set the "Animate" value data to 1 (Set to 0 to return to no animation).
3) Soft reset.
Pocket IE to Version 5.5 (For Secured Sites)
1) Go to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\ key.
2) Set the default value to "Mozilla/4.0" (Default is "Mozilla/2.0").
3) Set the "Version" value to "MSIE 5.5" (Default is "MSIE 3.02").
4) Set the "Platform" value to "Windows NT 5.0" (Default is "Windows CE").
This will only work on some secure sites that check version number rather than perform a check for support of secured transactions.
This registry hack will make Pocket Internet Explorer identify itself as IE 5.5 on Windows 2000.
However it will prevent web sites that provide Pocket PC specific content to be able to know you're actually using a Pocket PC.
Change the Tap & Hold Dots Color
1) Go to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color\ key.
2) Add a Binary value called "40" if it does not already exist.
3) Set the value to "rr gg bb 00" (RGB hex values 00 to FF so "FF 00 00 00" is Red), (RGB hex values 00 to FF so "00 FF 00 00" is Green),(RGB hex values 00 to FF so "00 00 FF 00" is Blue).
SMS Delivery Reports - Always on!
1) Go to the \HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\ key.
2) Add a Dword called "SMSDeliveryNotify" if it does not already exist.
3) Set the value to "(0x000001)" or just "1" depending on your reg editor.
No need for soft reset - create new SMS and check Tools > Options - already ticked for delivery notification.
Please note: This only works for NEW created messages - you stll have to manually select if replying or forwarding.

Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete) kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe (alternative to this is to open ActiveSync press "File" and select "Connection Settings", in the newly opened window uncheck Allow USB connections)
put your device into Bootloader Mode by pressing Power + Record Button and Soft Reset.(if you want detailed information about this step take a look here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_WM5_For_Beginners )
Run mtty (from downloaded) Choose WCEUSBSH001 (If you only see COM 1 and COM 2, try unplugging the USB and replugging it, or difrend USB port)
type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.
type "task 28" to get your device formatted
type "task 0" to ask your device reboot (sometimes this command does not work but type it anyway)
take the device out of the cradle, and manually reset it if it does not do that already.

SELECT THE DESIRED NUMBER (from http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2007/07/16/hey-i-didn-t-know-you-could-do-that.aspx)
When you have a contact highlighted you can press the d-pad Left and Right keys to change communication methods for the person (work, home, mobile, txt, email etc). Watch really close when pressing Left/Right, and you'll see the tiny "w" turn to "m", "h", "e" etc. I suppose this is most useful for alternating default phone numbers - when you press Talk, the selected number is dialed. Previously I used to just open the contact and select the number I wanted to call from the card view.

Windows Mobile Has a "Run" Dialog - WMExperts
I have written before (and will surely write again) about how I'd like something like Quicksilver for Windows Mobile: A simple text entry field that I could enter short, simple text commands into do Get Things Done.
I'm imagining a text field on my today screen, or barring that a little app that indexed contacts, favorites, applications, and settings via Windows Mobile 6's Smart Search (which also works on email, hint hint). Being able to put a "s" in front of a search would make it go search the web for your terms. Or "t joe I'm on my way" would send Joe a text message that I'm on my way. You get the idea. You can see I want this. I'm not the only one.
Enough background. I came across this sweet, hardcore (in a good way) Windows Mobile development blog and was largely mystified. Until I saw that you could do this: "tap and hold down the ‘Action’ key while tapping and holding the stylus on the clock shown on the nav bar." "Action key" is your center button. This'll work on a Pocket PC / Pro edition phone (but not, strangely, a Treo 750). What pops up is essentially the same as Desktop Windows' 'Run' dialog.

Break the Rules – Receive Files Anywhere on Your Device
Windows Mobile Operating Systems use the term of “beam” or “beaming” to describe every file communication between two or more devices based on Infrared (IrDa) or Bluetooth (BT). Being so, beaming a file would mean sending it via IrDa or BT (beam) to another device. When you receive a file by IrDa or BT to your device, you actually receive a beam. Beam works between all IrDa and Bluetooth enabled devices, so you can send t and receive beams from devices that are not actually Windows Mobile powered (like desktops, notebooks, regular cell phones).
Ever been in a situation where a co-worker or friend wanted to beam you a file and you received an error simply because the file’s size exceeded the available space on the device? I’m sure I’ve been!
By default, Windows Mobile saves any beam-received files to DEVICE (My Documents folder, to be more specific).
hc4’s OBEX Inbox addresses this huge annoyance with Windows Mobile environments by allowing the user to select a place, anywhere on device really, and this includes Internal Storage or Storage Card, where any incoming beamed files will be stored. Very useful for large documents, pictures, music or videos. Most of you probably moved beam-received files anyway to another location right after receiving them. Thanks to OBEX Inbox, you don’t have to do this again.
After installation, it will place an icon in Settings and by firing that up, you can set the default (from there on) storage path for incoming beam files. An additional great feature that fixes another annoyance with Windows Mobile is that, when you actually beam-receive a file through Bluetooth, it will show you valuable information regarding Speed of transfer, Percentage done and ETA time.

A Neat Way to Customize and Organize Your Programs
User ycimpir has made an automated install of what some people would consider customization or organization.
The fact is that after a while, your Programs folder in the Start Menu can get really cluttered as you install your apps. Some custom ROMs already customize and organize the Programs into subfolders and this is exactly what this automated application does. It will create empty subfolders in your Start Menu’s Programs folder and customize them with specific naming and icons, so that after installing this small tweak, you can move your already existing shortcuts to these subsequent folders and have a neat and tidy way of keeping things organized.
Folder Icons support both QVGA and VGA screen resolutions for the Windows Mobile Professional platform. Just download the free CAB file and run it; after that, fire up your Windows Explorer (or your third party alternative), navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and move your shortcuts to their respective folders.
------------------------------------
John C Molyneux’s Hide Folders is a must have tiny utility that will help you a lot if are looking for a free and easy way to hiding your folders on a Windows Mobile Professional device.
The application is a simple tree-like representation of your folders found both on your Device and Storage card and it allows you to tap and hold on a/several folder/s of your liking and “Toggle hidden state”, by which Hide Folders applies a Hidden attribute to the selected items, thus making them not appear in File Explorer with the default “Show All Files” option unselected. The only downside is that you can’t select files but we hope for that functionality in future releases.
After download, install Hide Folders to device; according to the author, it is compatible with any version of Windows Mobile Professional from 4 upwards, sporting .NET Compact Framework 2.0, which is stock on most devices.

Frequently Used Acronyms in PPC World
.CAB Files : Cabinet - is the Microsoft Windows native compressed archive format. cab files are files used to install programs. cab files are similar to what you might know as .exe files from your PC. cab files can be downloaded directly to your Hermes with Wifi or GPRS, you can also transfer them to your Hermes using File Explorer on your PC. cab files are not supposed to be unpacked/unzipped on the PC. Copy the intact .cab file as you downloaded it directly to your Hermes
ActiveSync :This program by Microsoft is what we all use to connect to our computers at work or at home. It allows contacts, tasks, emails and Calendar events to be synchronised with Outlook aswell as such things as media and favorites. In Windows Vista this has been replaced by the Windows Mobile Device Center. In addition ActiveSync allows browsing of the device in Windows Explorer.
AKU: Adaptation Kit Update - they usually patch up existing bugs and enable several new features. Each newly released AKU pack retains fixes found in previous versions of AKU. Starting with Windows Mobile 5 Microsoft began a policy of updates similar to that of the desktop windows. Rather the replacing the whole OS some functionality may be added. For example AKU 2.0 introduced push mail. These updates are distributed through the OEMs and are given to the consumer in form of ROM updates. Note that OEM may choose not to create an update with the latest AKU for their devices. Getting an AKU for your phone is like getting the SP2 (Service Pack 2) for your Windows Xp.
Application Unlock: Most Windows Mobile devices only allow you to load applications that have an acceptable digital signature. If you try to edit the registry or load an application it will give you an error. Application Unlocking removes this barrier and allows you to install any application or edit the registry to your liking.
Baked ROM : that the original shipped complete ROM (CE, Extended and radio) has been modified. A Baked ROM could have a CE ROM from one operator, a Radio stack from a second operator, an Extended ROM from a third operator or even a “cooked” extended ROM.
Bootloader : The bootloader is the first thing to load once you turn on the device, this does the job of booting up the device hardware and loading various items into memory before the ROM starts in the device. The bootloader is also responsible for enabling the flashing of new ROMs and other components such as the Radio and the Ext_ROM. Two modified bootloaders for the Hermes are HardSPL and SSPL. To enter the bootloader, press and hold the OK and POWER buttons while inserting the stylus into the reset hole on the bottom of the Hermes.
Chef / Cook : Its a term coined by the developer community to refer to people who build custom ROMs ( ie; people who cooks ROM ). Personal favourites are : Jasjamming and Schaps
CID lock (aka vendor lock): Carrier Id - put on your device by the manufacturer to prevent installation of a ROM not released by them. Commonly used in the form `CID-Unlocking`. If you purchase your phone (example) from 3Mobile (3Mobile is the ‘carrier’), your phone will only accept 3Mobile ROMs (the carrier’s ROMs). If you want to flash ROMs from other carrier, you’ll need to CID-unlock your phone, so that your phone will accept other ROMs. All bootloaders (apart from HardSPL and SSPL) will only allow a ROM with the correct CID to be flashed onto the device. A device which has been CID unlocked will have ‘SuperCID’ which allows ANY ROM to be loaded onto the device, SuperCID also unlocks the Ext_ROM and allows it to be mounted.Note: In general, the phrase ‘unlock your phone’ usually refers to SIM-unlock, not CID unlock.
Cooked ROM : means that the ROM has been modified with other files
CustomRUU: is an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) which has support for all SPL versions including HardSPL and SSPL.
Device Lock : The device lock is a today screen plugin that locks all the buttons (and the touch screen) until you unlock it, it will allow you to answer calls. To use it simply tap the ‘device unlocked’ today item and it will lock the device, to unlock press the left hand soft key and tap the unlock button on screen.
ExtROM: Extended ROM - is the section of the ROM which the distributor of the phone (eg O2, T-Mobile, iMate, etc) store their customization (eg Today theme, ring tones, extra software) data. In WM5, the customization data will be automatically installed after the initial configuration (after every hardreset), just after the security section. In most cases, ExtROM can be unlocked to allow users to store/build their own customizations that will be automatically installed upon every hardreset.
Firmware: This is a piece of software that is stored in a device to make it function. It is, unlike ordinary software, usually semi-permanent and resides in a non-volatile storage area which is unaffected by “hard resetting” a device. The term usually refers to low-level code that controls individual hardware components such as a radio rom.
Flashing : a ROM is the process putting a new ROM on your device or otherwise know as upgrading.
Hard Reset : Switch the device off. Press and hold the Left SOFT KEY and Right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device. You will be presented with a menu saying ‘press R to reset, X to exit’. If you press R, your device will be set back to factory default settings. Hard Reset will delete all data you have put on the device: Programs, Settings, Mail, SMS, MMS, etc., so be careful and make a backup before doing this. After a hard reset, you will have a complete clean new install of Windows Mobile on your device. Data on \Storage Card & \Extended_Rom folder will not be deleted
HardSPL : This modified bootloader (by Olipro) allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your Hermes device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing.
IPL: Initial Program Loader - It boots up SPL. Its the bootloader for PPC, much like the BIOS is the boot loader for your PC. Note: IPL/SPL are highly hardware dependent, flashing the wrong IPL/SPL is much more serious than a flashing the wrong ROM. It may be noted that, sometimes a ROM package also contains the IPL/SPL which will be flashed into your phone. Hence be extra careful what you are flashing. Note: although a ROM may also contains the IPL/SPL
OEM : Original Equipment Manufacturer - is a company that supplied equipment to other companies to resell or incorporate into another product using the reseller’s brand name.
OS: Operating System - the platform software for your phone, much like the Windows Xp/Vista for your PC. Upgrading the OS is like, in PC terms upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Os for PPC are WM2002, WM 2003, WM2003SE, WM5, WM6
PIE : Pocket Internet Explorer - is the default browser that comes with the Windows Mobile Operating System.
PPC : Pocket PC - is a hardware specification for a Personal digital assistant that runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system.
Program memory: The non-persistent memory part of WM5, which is used for all the temporary memory requirements, much like the RAM of your PC. A soft-reset or flat battery will erase everything from the program memory. You can’t adjust the ratio of Storage memory and Program memory in WM5 like WinCE2003.
Radio: commonly used in the form `upgrading the Radio/GSM` - in the field of ROM upgrading. The `Radio` is essentially a ROM that controls the phone function part (as oppose to PDA function part) of your phone. Upgrading this `Radio` software may have effect on your phone reception quality, battery life (optimized phone function), signal strength, etc.
RIL: Radio Interface Layer -
ROM: Read Only Memory - commonly used in the form of `ROM upgrade`. The ROM is the firmware/software, which controls everything on your phone. ROM itself usually comes in a package, with IPL/SPL, OS, Radio, and ExtRom. However, in most cases, `upgrading a ROM` usually means just the OS and the ExtRom, as these are the obvious/visible part of an ROM upgrade.
RTM : Release to Manufacturing or Ready to Market.
RUU: ROM Upgrade Utility - Its the s/w used on your PC to do a ROM upgrade for your PPC
SIM: Subscriber Identity Module - commonly used in the form `SIM unlock`. Some phones are locked to the specific telco from which you purchase your phone, eg you can’t use a locked 3Mobile phone with a Vodaphone SIM/smart card. To use SIM card from other telco, you need to SIM unlock your phone. Note: In general, the phrase ‘unlock your phone’ usually refers to SIM-unlock, not CID unlock.SIM Unlock: Use any carrier’s SIM in the device.
SIP : Software Input Panel - for devices that does not have a hardware keyboard the SIP is used to enter data on to the PPC eg: the software keyboard, Symbol Pad, Block Recoganizer, etc . Note : SIP can also stand for Session Initiation Protocol , check the wikipedia entry SIP as a voice over IP protocol.
Smartphone : Pre WM6 class, Smartphone is defined as a mobile phone which offers advanced capabilities like that of a PC. It will not have a touchscreen as compared to a Pocket PC. With the introduction of WM6 all mobile phone devices running Windows Mobile are no classed as Windows Mobile powered Smartphones
Soft Reset : Put your stylus in the hole in the lower left corner. Soft Reset will reboot your device just like when you reboot your PC. No data will be lost, under normal circumstances.
SPL: Secondary Program Loader - Loads the actual OS.
SSPL : is a modified bootloader (by Des) which is loaded into RAM when run, this allows us to overwrite any aspect of the ROM, Radio or Bootloader far easier than using mtty.
Storage memory: The persistent memory part of WM5, where all the files and documents are kept, much like the hard disk of your PC. Data in the storage memory is unaffected by soft-reset or a flat battery. You can’t adjust the ratio of Storage memory and Program memory in WM5 like WinCE2003.
SuperCID : by CID unlocking your device the value of the CID is changed to SuperCID . This allows the flashing of ANY ROM to the device regardless of the carrier and also unlocks the read/write capability of the Ext_ROM.
Touch Cube : usually simply referred to as the Cube. It is a 3d navigation interface created by HTC that uses their TouchFlo technology. The interface was introduced with the HTC Touch and has since been used in several other devices. It has also been ported to devices that pre-date the Touch.
TouchFlo : This is the HTC version of the flick-to-scroll technology often associated with the iPhone. This is not to be confused with the Touch Cube which is another HTC technology. It was 1st seen in HTC Touch.
TouchFlo 3D : this was code named ” Manilla ” and is another HTC technology , its an extension on to the today screen to give the user a finger friendly approach to using the PPC. It was 1st seen with the Touch Diamond.
UI : User Interface - some notable examples would be TouchFlo, PointUI
USSD : Unstructured Supplementary Service Data - is a capability of all GSM phones. It is generally associated with real-time or instant messaging type phone services. There is no store-and-forward capability that is typical of ‘normal’ short messages. Response times for interactive USSD based services are generally quicker than those used for SMS. Its used to send text between a mobile phone and an application program in the network eg: *123# for balance etc.
USIM : Universal Subscriber Identity Module - is an SIM for UMTS mobile telephony running on 3G mobile network.
WindowsCE / WinCE : aka Windows Embedded CE since version 6.0 Microsoft has stated that the ‘CE’ is not an intentional initialism, but many people believe CE stands for ‘Consumer Electronics’ or ‘Compact Edition’;The first version, was known during development under the codename “Pegasus”.
WM: Windows Mobile - the OS of the PPC
WM Classic : Windows Mobile Classic - the OS for PPC device without a phone.
WM Professional : Windows Mobile Professional - the OS for Phone enabled device with a touchscreen (formerly Phone Edition).
WM Standard : Windows Mobile Standard - the OS for Phone enabled device without a touchscreen (formerly Smartphone).
WWE Edition: World Wide English Edition - Its usually appended along with new ROM releases , to show that its a ROM that will have English as the default Language
WDA : Wireless Digital Assistant - This is the term that Hewlett Packard coined with their new 928 WDA Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition which integrates a cell phone with a Pocket PC.
XDA : Extended Digital Assistant - This the term that O2 coined with their new Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition which integrates a cell phone with a Pocket PC.
XIP : Execute in Place - The execution of a program stored in ROM or flash that is run directly from the location where it is stored. The execution does not require the program to be copied into ram before execution. This reduces the amount of ram that an application requires since it does not all have to load into RAM.

Update 9/30/2009 - Fixes, added functionality, and program your own call providers!
I wanted to share a program I've been working on - it's basically an enhanced Caller ID. On incoming SMS or phone calls a window pops up that displays,
- The full name of caller
- Address of caller with a map link
- The number of FTC and caller complaints (to tell if it’s a spam call)
- Telco name and location (can tell what carrier the call is from)
- Relatives of caller (with age!)
- Criminal History
I've also added the ability to add the caller to the contacts book, return the call, and look at past calls. A standalone GUI to run alone and lookup past calls can also be used.
As of v .6, you can make your own call information providers for NetCallerID (and I need help/looking for people to help write providers for international support.). Documentation/HOWTO make a call information provider can be found at
http://www.netcallerid.com/bbpress/topic.php?id=5
Looking for suggestions, changes, additions - definitely let me know and I will happily (and quickly) add them. You can reach me at [email protected]
Release Notes --
- NetCallerID waits until the call is answered or finished before doing the network calls. For the most part, the network connection is unavailable until the phone call is ended.
- If roaming is enabled NetCallerID waits until your out of roaming.
- All history of calls are in the program files\netcallerid\calllogs directory in html format. You can view these with Opera or Pocket IE.
- The setup automatically starts the program. I also put it in \Windows\Startup to start when you re-start the phone.
Download:
http://www.netcallerid.com/get
Instructions:
Just download the cab and run it on the device. It will automatically start and also start on reset. For the msi, install it on the PC, it will be added to your phone when you connect it to the PC. Go under programs and click the netcallerid icon to run the standalone GUI.
This is very alpha. Pre alpha even. I'm not liable for anything, run at your own risk, etc etc etc
Prerequisites
-WM5 or 6/6.1 with CF 3.5
Changes for v .6
- added vCard NetCallerID extensions for caller information providers
- added a SMS Reply
- added a 'check for updates' option
- fixed some gui issues for lower res wm devices
- updated whitepages provider to obtain more call information
- updated configuration GUI for programmable call information providers

Changes for v .3
- Added logic to the add to contacts where if name is in address book prompt/don't add.
- A full standalone app has been added where you can lookup past calls.
- Added the program to the programs list.
- Numerous bug fixes
- SMS is now turned off by default. Some people were getting Very.Bad results where SMS messages were being swallowed. I *think* it should be fixed but unsure, it's something in the SMS .net interception library. If you really want SMS turn it on under config, do a soft reset, and if you see your not getting SMS messages immed. uninstall and let me know!
- added whitepages.com lookups
-
Changes for v .2
- Fixed install to storage device errors

Just to needed some clarification the additional information would not be available until after the call has been accepted?
Anyway of doing this lookup if only the name is not your contact list already? or manually providing it a number to see the information on it?
this works with GSM, CDMA?
does this program work for other parts of the world as well (like Europe), or only for th US?
I'm gonna try this....
One Question...where is the app going to get all this information?
I'll probably have better questions and suggestions once it is installed.
I get an error when I try to run the program. Here's the message:
An unexpected error has occurred in NetCallerID.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
File or assembly name 'OpenNETCF, Version=2.3.0.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=E60DBEA84BB431B7', or one of its dependencies, was not found
Sprint Touch Pro, Stock ROM
wow. such a stalker-ish app, but i have to admit, it's pretty hot. and works too.

I developed it using US #'s. Some of the sites (all public) should work with international #'s tho. You can always try
If it doesn't work where you let me know and the area code etc (even sample #'s). I can test it on in the emulator.

Yeah - it doesn't go and look up the number until the call has been ignored, or accepted and the conversation is done. This is a limitation of the cell network. I quickly found out that during a call or an incoming call you can't access the data network. This is supposed to work with EVDO Rev A or HSDPA but even then some towers work, some don't. So for this reason the program waits until the convo is done...
Thanks for the suggestions of doing a lookup if the name isn't in your contact list already. I'll add that to the TODO -- as well as making it standalone and ability to manually enter a # as well.

I use a few places to get the data, all public. The logic is briefly,
- first look up the # on google, if not on google try anywho.com (for name, address, etc)
- look up the # on fonefinder.com (for geo location)
- look up the # on callercomplaints.com (for FTC and spam)
if netcallerid finds the name, at the bottom it will include the information for a list of other lookup sites. since the output window is basically a web browser the app will navigate to those web sites with the name lookup.
hope this answers your question!

is there any reason why i can not navigate to any of the links? after a call the program loads the info fine, but if i click a link to see map or criminal record nothing happens the new page if never loaded, also the button to view call logs doesn't work for me, call and add to contacts works but not call log. using a at&t fuze with the newest rre rom.
cool app
Works great! Good work!
Works well in the Kaiser, obviously the only thing wrong is some images, because of resolution difference.
But works well, I like it, take that damn telemarketers!
umm not working for me, after install and test it, no pop up. even after reset. =(

I saw this once when i was testing it - chalked it up as just the webbrowser control being flakey. What model of phone and firmware/mobile os are you using?

lol no problem kid. i do admit it's a really cool app!
Welcome to the "EnergyROM" thread !
This development thread is for my "Energy" custom firmware series for the HTC Touch Pro2 (Rhodium) device.
This ROM only works on GSM devices, flashing to a CDMA device will make it non-bootable (flash a stock, or CDMA specific ROM, to recover from that).
I do make a CDMA version (Sprint, Verizon, Altel, etc) and that's found here!
The current build numbers and date can be seen in the title of this thread. I usually update the ROMs about twice a week, as new builds come down the pipe or as new software/updates are available.
I build my ROMs with four main goals.
Eye candy ( I want my ROM to look great and for it to all flow together nicely)
Speed !!!
Smoothness, consistency and good aesthetics
Stability through private beta testing before public release
I pre-configure a lot of things in my ROM, because when I flash it on my phone, I want it ready to go. So, expect the backlight to be set at the maximum brightness, the ringtone, sms/email and other notifications to already be set. Doing it this way, makes for a nice ROM that's ready out of the box.
I recommend learning to backup your settings with either Sashimi or UC (User Customization). Backing up with SPB Backup or similar products, is NOT recommended, as they tend to backup the previous release's registry/file bugs as well!
Looking at the download folder you will find two core versions of my ROM.
A 21916 Build which is the most reliable and bug free release. It has the Start menu button at the top left corner. This build uses the same stock system that came with your device. This is usually the fastest and most stable build, but it's also the least fancy

A 29022 Build that's the latest in Microsoft's development with the Start menu button at the bottom left corner and big softkeys, making it all very "finger friendly". These builds reflect the latest cutting edge technology from Microsoft. Most people choose this build... Why else would you install a custom ROM ?

You can stay up to date on the status of my ROM development by "following" me on Twitter.
It's definitely the fastest way to get in touch with me and please don't be afraid to tweet me if you see major issues with the ROMs.
I generally do not answer "support" questions on Twitter, as it's really not the proper medium for that. Service packs and quick fixes will always be released as links in my tweets and that's definitely the fastest way to get a fix for a ROM.
To follow me on twitter, click here!
This post features all the Cookie Hometab based ROMs I make.
The original ROM is the "energy" version and that's a good starting point. All the rest, are themes applied to that ROM.
They all come in two versions, Cookie 1.8.5 and Cookie 2.0 (the ROM filename will be labeled "Cookie" and "Cookie.2.0, plus the name of the theme)
You can see more screenshots of these ROMs a couple of posts down.
The two Cookie versions look pretty similar, but Cookie 2.0 has multiple sliding homescreens/freely moveable widgets (similar to Android) and
quite a few more features and speed.
My own 'Energy' style
This is the best ROM version and the way Sense should have been designed by HTC
Offers the biggest customization ability out of all versions. You can add/remove bars or items on the homescreen, arrange items any way you like, plus lots of extra features
Three built in lockscreens. "HD Mini" style, Manila style or Windows style
3 pages of quicklinks with a configurable amount of shortcuts displayed
3 Homescreen layouts to choose from, as seen in the above screenshots, all completely customizable !

Dinik's "Anastasia"
This ROM series is skinned with Dinik's great "Anastasia" theme applied on everything.
Everything has been skinned, including Sense, the start menu items, the soft keyboard, parts of the dialer... etc
_LeCiel_'s ".sencity"
This ROM is themed with the .sencity theme released by _LeCiel_ who is a very talented artist ! Please support his work if possible.
.sencity is not %100 complete yet, but _LeCiel_ is working hard on finishing his work to completely skin the entire ROM.

DJC & Bobsbbq's "Touch Of Glass"
This ROM series is skinned with DJC's "Touch of Glass" theme throughout Sense and the Start Menu
More will be skinned as DJC continues his work on the theme in the future...

ElCondor's "GTX"
This ROM has the white GTX theme applied
Android styled taskbar, matching dialer, matching start menu background and Action screen background
GTX is a total reskin of the operating system, so expect a very different (white) experience

'Standard' ROMs that have no addons installed on the homescreen. Stock Sense 2.5 !
'Energy'
This series retains the stock functionality of the Sense UI. The files have been compressed by "CFC" compression. making the UI lighter and faster
This ROM still retains my theme and style, plus all the regular apps you find in my ROMs.
There are no homescreen addon-ons in this ROM. The best speed and the most stock functionality.
'Reference'
This ROM is mostly for people that want a close to stock ROM with the stock visual style. It's also perfect for doing your own customizations.
A lot of the cooked in apps are removed in this ROM, the Start menu back to the stock 3 row style
Sense and everything else is back to the default HTC green.
ROMs mostly created for enthusiasts...
MaxSense UI (android style homescreen)
This is a complete rewrite of the Sense homescreen, by maxycy.
It features a 3 screen, Android style, homescreen with widgets! The widgets can be placed ANYWHERE on the three screens.
75 Quicklink accessible on all tabs
You should really visit the original thread for this mod shown on the next line to see all the features!
Link to the original thread for this mod is here > Click <.
Titanium (ROMs for raw speed!)
This is a minimal ROM version without Sense in it. It's used primarily for people that like to customize the default 6.5 homescreen (Titanium)
You can use it to install alternate homescreen interfaces like SPB Mobile Shell, etc
Very low memory footprint and good battery life, but very simple and lacks a lot of features that you would otherwise have available in Sense...
ALL my ROMs have Titanium built in already along with Sense, but THIS ROM is Titanium only.

Very fast startup time. You find any startup wizards in this ROM. You'll be up and running in a couple minutes after flashing the ROM.
XDA_UC is built in. It will import your custom XML and REG files from your storage card after first boot.
My own Settings Exporter application is found in the Tools folder. Use it to export all your settings after you customize the device. When a new ROM comes down the line, use it to import everything and save time.
Everything is setup to use the phone right after flashing. Sounds, notifications, etc
The HTC Messaging client is removed, leaving the windows built SMS client for much faster texting...

Now we have a FAQ system. Feel free to PM me with changes/additions to this!
EXTRA: If you installed a ROM using CHT 2.0 and Sense keeps restarting, the solution is here.
NO NEED TO FURTHER COMPLAIN OR REPORT THIS ISSUE!
1 - THE BASICS:
GSM vs. CDMA: This thread and ROMs are for GSM phones ONLY! If your phone is CDMA (Sprint, Verizon, Altel, etc.), CDMA versions of this ROM can be found here. Flashing to a CDMA device will make it non-bootable (flash a stock, or CDMA specific ROM, to recover from that).
How to check if your phone is GMS or CDMA: Look the model number under the battery. RHOD100, RHOD200, RHOD210, RHOD300 are GSM. RHOD400 and RHOD500 are CDMA.
Different flavors of the ROM: This ROM is offered in several flavors. Please read the #2 post to better understand each and pick the one you prefer.
The numbering system used on the ROM: The ROMs have different builds, identified by a number such as 216xx or 219xx. To learn more about what the numbers mean, some differences between the builds, and performance benchmarks, check this thread.
ROM Language: Energy ROMs are available in English and a few other languages. The Chef is progressively increasing the language options, based on demand. However, keep in mind that it is unlikely that there will be a version for every single language, so complaining about it won't help.
New versions of the ROM: New versions are posted often. Usually twice a week. There is a changelog in the 3rd or 4th post. However, the Changelog isn’t always up to date. Often the most current changelog is made available first at the Leo (HD2) thread. In order to keep the thread clean, please DO NOT keep asking what is new, or complaining that there is no Changelog. Either wait for one, or flash the ROM and see for yourself.
How to flash the ROM: There is an excellent guide here. Also, make sure to read topic # 4 below ("SUGGESTED SEQUENCE TO INSTALL A NEW ROM"), with a suggested sequence to install things progressively, and help you to pinpoint any issues you may have with a new ROM.
Radio: Radios are separate from the ROM and control the phone's communication hardware. This ROM DOES NOT change your radio, the same way that flashing a new radio does not change your ROM. Radios may work better or worse depending on your service provider and your location. Radios (and discussions about them) are found here.
Battery: This ROM is set for performance, and it is likely it will use more battery. However, after flashing a new ROM, it takes a few charge/discharge cycles for the battery gauge to stabilize, so please refrain from posting comments/complaints about battery life. Some good hints about the battery can be found here.
Carrier Provisioning: There are many different carriers, and some require different provisioning. If you are experiencing issues such as sending/receiving SMS/MMS, or your physical keyboard is not mapped corrected, you MAY need to provision for your carrier. For AT&T and T-Mobile, go to Start > Tools > Carrier Provisioning and select your carrier. For other carriers, go to Start > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks and either select from the drop down menus to edit or click on New to add a new one (you may need to contact your carrier to get the configuration information).
For AT&T, carrier provisioning can be performed automatically through XDA_UC by copying energy_att.cab from \Windows to \Storage Card\XDA_UC.
XDA_UC: EnergyROMs use XDA_UC, which is a tool to automate some of the installation and configuration steps. There is a good thread with XDA_UC hints and tips here.
2 - TWEAKS:
Add-ons: NRGZ made a few add-ons available on his website. To check them, click here.
Settings: The Sense interface has several settings, including the ability to remove tabs or change their sequence. These settings can be found on the last tab, called… Settings! Additional settings can be changed with BsB Tweaks, and Advanced Config, both can be found at Start > Tools.
Screen rotation with keyboard closed : Some applications already have the screen rotation activated by default. In order to activate others, you either go to Start > Tools > BsB Tweaks > Menu > Rotation, or install a program such as ChangeScreen. If you are familiar with editing the Registry, additional applications can be also be added at HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSensor\GSensor.
Changing the Time Zone: Go to Start > Settings > Clock & Alarms.
Changing the soft keys on the Home screen: To change the left soft key, use Start > Tools > BsB Tweaks > Menu > Left Manila Softkey. There is no user accessible way to change the right soft key.
Closing or changing the soft keyboard: The builds running Windows Mobile 6.5.3 have a special way of dealing with the soft keyboard. If you tap on the the right side of the keyboard icon, you get the menu which presents you with a choice of soft keyboards. Tap anywhere on the icon to open or close the soft keyboard.
Disabling internet push: Newest versions of EnergyRom have internet push enabled. If you prefer to disable it, the instructions are here.
Notifications: If you are not receiving a notification (such as when you receive a SMS or e-mail), or want to change your notification settings and sounds, go to Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications. Click on the drop down menu to select the event you want to configure. If you want to manage the led notifications, install the cab posted here.
The phone no longer asking about USB connection type when connecting it via USB: Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and check the last box (the one that says “Ask me first…”)
FM radio: Newest versions of EnergyRom were modified to allow the use of FM Radio without headphones. However, the headphones also worked as antenna. So, if you don’t have a strong FM signal in your area, you may not get any station. Some people resolved the problem by plugging the headphone adapter (the rectangular dongle) into the phone, and sticking the stylus into the adapter's headphone jack. This way, the stylus works as an antenna.
Sending MMS with AT&T: Run the Carrier Provisioning at Start > Tools, select ATT 2. The download and install this CAB http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...4&d=1271445465 to adjust the maximum size to 600k.
Twitter tab: If you don't flash new ROMs very often, or if you get many tweets in a short period of time, you may want to clean them once in a while as ALL of them get stored on your phone, and this can cause performance issues. To do that, turn off Sense (Start > Settings > Home > Items > uncheck HTC Sense) and then delete the files in \Temp\twiteng\Db. Make sure not to delete any other files in the \Temp\twiteng directory. The other folder stores your log in token file. After doing that, do not forget to turn Sense on again.
SMS "traditional" look: If you don't like the new style of SMS in some of the EnergyROM builds (the "balloons"), you can revert back to the traditional one by installing this cab, ripped from the stock ROM.
Increase the Number of Allowed Recipients in Group SMS: The max number of default contacts to send a group SMS is 10. You can change it to 50 by changing the registry entry
HKLM\Software\Jataayu\Messaging\MaxRecipients
Change Windows Mobile SMS Client skin: To change the "skin" used for Windows Mobile SMS Client ONLY please follow the directions in this thread. For example: The Astronaut Manila skin is available as a .CAB and will revert your SMS style back to "default" or "original" style. Additionally, you may choose to further customize your own style by making changes to the CSS (documentation is in the posted thread).
Video Codec suggested settings: If you are copying a video to play on your phone, these are some setting a member successfully tested:
Xvid/Divx compatible (h.263)
File Extension: m4v or mp4
fps: 23.976
Resolution: 800x480 (400x240 for smoothest video)
Video Bitrate: 600-800 kbps
Audio Bitrate 128-192 Stereo
This was tested with AVS Video Converter. Results with other encoders may vary. VBR (variable bitrate encoding) will give better quality if you encoder supports it but will take longer..
Splash Screen: The splash screen is that initial screen that shows when you turn the phone on. Usually it shows "TouchPro2". Some ROMs change the splash screen, but EnergyROMs don't.
If somehow you changed your splash screen by either flashing a different one, or by flashing a different ROM that changed it, and you want to revert back to the original screen, download it from here. To flash, follow the same procedure you would execute when flashing a ROM.
NOTE: Performing Task29 DOES NOT erase your splash screen (or your radio).
Physical keyboard repeat rate: In Settings> Personal> Buttons, there is an "Up/Down Control" tab. There, you can adjust the repeat rate and the delay before repeating for all hardware keys (despite the name "Up/Down Control"). Both are set to the fastest settings on EnergyROMs.
Playing music with screen off: If you want to be able to play music with the screen off to save battery, install this cab. NO LONGER NEEDED AFTER AUG 22, 2010 as the change is already cooked in.
Changing the environment variables, such as default save path for cameras, documents, etc.: To change the default locations, go Start > Tools > Advanced Config> Locations and make the changes you want by either picking the right folder from the drop down menu or by clicking on "browse", and navigating to the folder you want, and then clicking on "Select". Do not forget to press "Done" in order to save your changes.
Increasing the in call volume: If the volume while in call is too low and you already adjusted the volume to the maximum, install this cab, and restart the phone.
Enabling Cingular Video for AT&T users: Apply the cab posted here.
Additional Tips & Tricks: Can be found on this post created by JVH3. It also has his reviews of ROM versions.
3 - SOLUTIONS TO ISSUES:
ATTENTION: IF YOU ARE OVERCLOCKING YOUR PHONE AND EXPERIENCING ANY ISSUES, FIRST OF ALL TEST IT WITHOUT OVERCLOCKING. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTING WEIRD ISSUES AND END UP FIGURING OUT THEY WERE BEING CAUSED BY OVERCLOCKING.
Lack of memory to run programs (aka memory leak): If you are running out of memory you may experience correspondent error messages, or find out that some programs are unable to open, or that they suddenly close. Windows Mobile and many applications don't handle memory well, causing your phone to run out of memory to process the applications. THIS IS NOT A DEFECT OF THE ROM, so please DO NOT post complaints, or bug reports about it. A quick solution is either multi-task less, or reboot your phone regularly to "recover" the memory. An excellent analysis with some suggestions was posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7005311&postcount=21054
Wrong physical keyboard configuration: If you are using AT&T or T-Mobile, and you are experiencing issues with the physical keyboard key configuration (FN not working, for example), you need to run the Carrier Provisioning that can be found at Start > Tools. Another alternative is to use a key remapper program such as this one.
Wrong or not getting “My Location” (on the Weather tab or Home): Your location is determined according to the cellular towers nearby. Depending on where they are and on the signal strength you are getting, you may see a wrong location. However, not all towers work for this despite the signal strength. Possibly they just don't send the request. Possibly they don't return the result. Some people reported that switching 3G off or off/on helped, but results vary. GPS and the ROM itself have nothing to do with it. An alternative is to add your city by clicking on the clock at the Home screen and then on Add City. The location feature depends heavily on Google's data about location. If Google's servers can't figure out where you are, your "My Location" feature will simply not work.
For people with AT&T: one member successfully fixed the location issue by installing the latest stock AT&T ROM (which updated the Radio and Rilphone) and then flashed the EnergyROM. His location then started to work fine. See his post here. MAY BE similar procedure would work for other carriers, using their correspondent stock ROMs.
ActiveSync unable to synchronize via USB: Some people reported that going to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and disabling 'enable faster data synchronization' worked for them, but results vary. This issue happens more often with Vista/Windows 7.
ActiveSync showing error 0x85010013 on the PC while trying to synchronize, unable to contact Exchange: Try the solution posted here, which was reported to have resolved the issue.
Incorrect unread count (SMS or e-mail): Normally this is caused by a PIM backup that was restored. Two solutions (a procedure and a cab) can be found here. Microsoft My Phone (under Start > Tools) is a better alternative to backup your PIM and other things such as documents, music, pics, etc.
Incorrect unread count (voice mail): Leave another message for yourself, retrieve and delete it. It should resolve the count error.
Phone showing there is a voice message but there is none: This may happen once in a while. To clean it, leave a voice message for yourself, retrieve it, and delete it. This will clean the notification.
Lack of weather updates: Sometimes the default weather server is down for a while and updates fail. An alternative would be to switch to Conflippers weather server, or enter your own in. The Weather City Editor created by JVH3 has that option, and can be found here.
Displaying some non-English fonts: If you installed a non-English font (like Chinese) and is having issues, or if you prefer the old font used (Tahoma) than the new one (Calibri) try this fix by changing this registry entry: HKLM\System\GDI\SYSFNT\Nm =Tahoma or by downloading and installing this CAB. Either way, perform a soft reset afterwards.
Strange characters on Quick Shutdown: If Quick Shutdown (the application that runs when you press and hold the power button) shows strange characters and you have changed your Regional Settings to something other than "English (United States)", then you will have to install a more current version of Quick Shutdown that supports other languages. It can be found here.
Difficulty in getting a GPS satellite lock: You may want to try this solution, which uses aGPS to obtain a faster lock. If you want to automate it using XDA_UC, check this post here.
Call waiting issues: There has been two types of call waiting issues identified:
1- Some people reported that their phones do not get a call waiting beep when they are on the phone and there is another incoming call. If you are experiencing this problem, a solution was posted here.
2- Others report that instead of getting a call waiting tone, the second call causes the first one to drop. In such case, the solution is here.
Garmin not working or freezing: This is caused by Ameba's position fix. Make sure Garmin (My Device/Garmin/que.exe) is in the exception list for position fix (NOT close button exception) or disable position fix. Access the options for this using the X-Button application in the Tools folder.
XML file not working with XDA_UC: Make sure it is in unicode. For details see http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...56#post6312056
Opera displaying an error message every time you boot the phone: If every time you power or reset your phone you get an error message such as "You tried to access the address file://localhost/at, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page", and your ROM is 21xxx, this may be due to PushInternet being enabled by default. In order to disable it, install this cab.
Stuck at "Launching HTC Sense...": If you get stuck on this message or if Sense is not loading even though it is checked under Settings > Home > Items, try deleting the folder "Application Data\HTC\databases" on the SD card, if any. Sense will recreate it and it should work fine. If you want an application to do it for you, check this post. NOTE: In the most recent EnergyROMs some changes were made and this folder may no longer exist, what is normal.
Freezes: This post addresses several possible reasons and solutions for freezes. Attention: Overclocking your phone may cause freezes. Test it without overclocking to figure out if OC is the culprit.
Problems with SD card: If your SD card has problems, it may cause the two issues listed above. If you want to check its integrity and fix any issues, please follow the steps on this post.
Wrong SMS Timestamp: If you are receiving text messages (SMS) with the wrong timestamp, what may cause them to be in the wrong order, a solution was posted here.
Unable to add a contact from the dialer: On the Aug 28 ROMs, there is a problem with Sense that prevents adding a contact from the dialer (someone calls you and after the call you want to add that person to your list of contacts). This should not be a problem in the most recent ROMs, but if you experience the problem you can use Pyrorob's fix, which can be found here.
Wrong time: Several people outside of the US reported problems with time after the US changed to/from daylight savings time (aka summer time and winter time). If your clock is one hour (or more) ahead or behind, do not use "get carrier time" and disable "automatic change time zone and clock" in personal -> phone settings.
Non-Transparent Contact Background: In some of the recent ROMs the Contact page has some reddish background that makes it difficult to read. The solution (a cab) to make it transparent can be found here.
4 - SUGGESTED SEQUENCE TO INSTALL A NEW ROM:
When flashing a new ROM for the first time, first disable XDA_UC or anything else that automatically installs or configures the ROM. Simply do the carrier selection when it comes up.
Download new ROM
Disable XDA_UC and the like
Perform Task29 on the phone
Enter Bootloader
Flash the new ROM
Select carrier
Do some basic testing
Set up some basic stuff manually
Do some testing
If all goes well, and you want to ensure XDA_UC is working fine, you can then re-enable XDA_UC and then Task29 and flash again. If you then seem some odd stuff (like Sense not even loading) you can start to troubleshoot your XDA_UC stuff.
Also, be careful with what other programs such as SPB Backup, PIM Backup, CHT import, Sashimi, etc. restore, as sometimes things don't translate well from one ROM to another.
5 - HOW TO POST A QUESTION ON THE THREAD:
First and foremost, read at minimum the last 2-3 days of posts on the thread to make sure the question was not already answered. If that does not help, then use the search feature of the thread. If nothing is found, then post your question to get help. In the majority of the situations, someone already experienced the problem and a solution was already posted.
In order to get help from other XDA members, when posting a question please make sure to include at minimum:
The ROM you have (Sense 2.1 or 2.5, build, date)
The device you have (there are variants of the Rhodium)
The Radio you have
Your location
Your service provider
The steps you took to get to the problem so we could try to reproduce it
If you tested it with a bare ROM to confirm it is not something you installed/restored
Any pictures showing the screens affected (if applicable)
6 - HOW TO REPORT A BUG:
If you believe you found a bug on the ROM, please report it by sending a Private Message to me, and I will compile a list to be sent to the Chef.
Please make sure to include the items listed above on #5, plus any potential solutions you may have identified.
XDA_UC FAQ
The XDA_UC cooked in my ROMs is modified from the stock XDA_UC made by Noonski. Great addon, by the way... Noonski did a great job with this !
The version in my ROMs is trimmed down to fit the needs of my ROM series.
Some of the extra features are:
It will copy shortcuts (.lnk files) found in \XDA_UC\Start Menu\ to the device's start menu folder (\windows\Start Menu) in the hierarchy that it finds on the storage card. For example: Let's say you have a navigation package on the storage card, like Navigon. If you make a shortcut to the navigon.exe file as Navigon.lnk and copy it to \XDA_UC\Start Menu\GPS\ as "Navigon.lnk" then on a fresh ROM install it will copy any shortcuts it finds there to the same location on the device, so it'll end up in \Windows\Start Menu\GPS\. This works for other folders on the Start Menu as well. Just put the shortcuts in \xda_uc\Start Menu\ in the folders you will like the shortcuts to appear to, on the device.
It will copy a custom splash screen from \Storage Card\XDA_UC\welcomehead.192.png to \windows automatically and overwrite the one in the ROM.
It will copy a custom Sense background found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\sense\wallpaper_sense.png to the device and set that wallpaper as default in Sense. So rename your wallpaper as "wallpaper_sense.png" and drop it in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\sense\ and on the next ROM flash that wallpaper will become your wallpaper in Sense.
Other than that XDA_UC works as designed by Noonski and it will do the following things:
It will automatically import your PPCbackup (*.pib) file found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will install custom XDAS scripts found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will silently install CAB files found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will install special CAB files that require user input (such as Agreements or any type of prompt) found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\SD
It will silently import REG files found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will silently install REG files found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\Exporter, as exported by my own Settings Exporter, ONLY if the "automatic" file is also present in that folder (and it most cases it should be, enable that option in the Settings Export application's menu)
It will silently import XML files found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will silently import CER files (usually Exchange certificates) found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
It will silently run custom MSCR files found in \Storage Card\XDA_UC\
That's it, but don't forget to checkout the Addons folder and look in the XDA_UC section for tips and tutorials on how to export your email/wifi settings and various little .reg and tweaks you can add to your XDA_UC collection.
As always don't forget to check what installs automatically before reporting a problem with the ROM. Most of the time, if you notice you have a problem that nobody else is experience is because one of the cabs you dropped in the XDA_UC folder is installing automatically while you don't even think about it.

Great first post lancelot54
Genesis is running on TF3D 2.1 and Leo is running on TF3D 2.5 (beta). Just check the screenshots, that will clarify things...

Well I installed the radio version 4.46.25.24. At first it didn't solve the problem, so I gave it a rest, but an hour later it worked!
So now it is updating.

To sort the text messaging issue out, go to the wvga tweaks and set it to wake up the device on new sms.

Ok ive set that and ill see how it goes.
To get around the Manila mail been slooooow ive now copied the tmailsms.lnk from the windows dir and placed it in the start menu, programes folder. I then went into the properties and unticked hidden and system and ticked read only (had to do this because it was getting deleted everytime i soft reset). I also renamed it just to "Mail". Now i can set it to one of the quick link tabs on the home screen.

If you have twitter activated on your phone and follow our Cook, you will know first hand on the latest from him, because he tweets first before going to this forum. Don't forget to check "Download tweets automatically" in Settings to be notified.

don't use twitter. Never understood why I would like to follow somebody's twitting:
"just brushed my teeth"
"Watching TV LOL"
"Tired"
"Going to sleep"
"Woke up"
wtf

Don't you guys have a job or something? I'm eagerly awaiting the new rom as well, but I've only had the time to watch for a new one since 10 hours ago.
I would assume any time that takes longer than normal would end up being a full update because when he just tweaks and adds packages its usually done daily so think of it that way the longer you wait the better the new rom must be because it takes longer to cook in a new version of manila or 6.5 than it does just to tweak and add updated packages. So wait in anticipation of somthing great when it takes a while. And let the man breath, please I fix phones and computers and run a video store and working for other peoople is gratifying but hard and tireless work so let the man relax.
New ROM comin soon!!!
