Microsoft removes synchro over Wi-Fi in ActiveSync 4.0

Arrogant Microsoft knows better and removes synchronization over Wi-Fi possibility in ActiveSync 4.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 - more information available
May 23, 2005 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)]
Competition is adding features in new versions of mobile platforms. Microsoft is removing some features.
We have mentioned it already previously, that no longer ActiveSync over Wi-Fi will be possible in Windows Mobile 5.0, and now there is some addtional background information available about this serious mistake of Microsoft with regard to Wi-Fi synchronization:
the wifi/ethernet sync capabilities had to be removed in ActiveSync 4.0 for security reasons. When decision was made, there was plenty of disappointment internally and a number meetings where smart folks tried to find ways to keep the feature in without risking security and without slipping the schedule commitments we had made. Unfortunately, that ended up not being possible for AS 4.0.
To read more on this topic (rather lame justifications from Microsoft employees) click here.
Conclusion: again Microsoft behaves in a totally arrogant and disrespecting (for end customers) way: removes the feature that was heavily used by many people. While other corporations are innovating strongly (example: next version of iTunes will include native support for Podcasting, while next Windows Media Player and ActiveSync will not support it), Microsoft is removing features and not innovating at all - just imitating features that others had 2-3 years ago (as it is with camera API in Windows Mobile 5.0). Clearly Microsoft needs some urgent changes because something is wrong there.
This is the only reason i'm not upgrading to WM5...
WM5 needs AS4 and AS4 does not support sync over wifi, this is the feature i love most in my ppc, getting my mails, documents... everything while sitting in a meeting room.
hell... i need some alternate to activesync b4 i upgrade to wm5
My guess is that it won't be long before some third party is out with a solution that fixes that problem (fake serial driver accessible via WLAN or something).
I really cannot believe this!! I had a Himalaya and was happy with it. I bought a Wizard now for good money, just to have WLAN/WIFI and - I swear to god - in order to use it for Activesync!! I had a WLAN SD Card in my old Himalaya and it worked FINE!! Damn!
This news are almost a year old

WM2005, ActiveSync 4 - No Pocket Access Synchronization>?

The previous versions had the option to sync PocketAccess Databases, but new WM2005 models don't have this feature.. Anyone know why or a different solution to .cdb databases?
Yeah, I stumbled upon the same issue, found this on M$ website:
Note Synchronizing and converting Access database files is available only on devices running Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier.
What software do you use for databases ? I noticed SprintDB Pro isn't compatible with WM 5.0 either.
I use Syware Visual.CE

ROM Update with Vista, any possibility?

Hello,
since a couple of days I try to upgrade my Trinity with a new Rom, but I have no chance. I get this message Erros 260:Connection , so do somebody know how I can flash my Rom under Vista? It would be very nice, thanks a lot!
turn off usb-connection in windows mobile device center, and try again!
if it doesn't work, try "des bootloader", start it and try to flash again.
perhaps you need activesync 4 drivers for your device, i found them somewhere in this board
good luck
thanks a lot, where can I find the active sync drivers, I searched but I found nothing, anybody an idea?
uploaded to my server

Vista in my eyes is almost perfect - never had any issue!
- using three external hard drives without any problem
- syncing with my Wizard (of course WMDC doesn't "store" contacts, it just syncs them with an Exchange server or Outlook - and it does it even better than ActiveSync)
- and all other stuff I did previously with XP (except ROM upgrading of my Wizard - but that's not a problem of Vista as there are already upgrade tools, we just don't have them so far cause no operator released any upgrade recently or the gurus here haven't been able to hack it to accept custom ROMs)

Actually there are no "tweaks" to make it do what is is supposed to do - it did it straight away! I have no idea where you have problems - WMDC has exactly the same functionality (and some additions to AS) and same options, just different interface. Just go to "mobile device settings" or whatever it is called (I am using the German version) and set it up to sync whatever you want to sync...
If it doesn't work try to delete the partnership and set up a new one...

BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile 6

Does anyone have a link for this download? I have the new AT&T Tilt working with BB Connect, but cannot find the download to the BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile 6.
Don't think the app suite is released as of yet.
Why would you want blackberry suite?
As mentioned above, the Blackberry Application Suite does not exist. Its never been released. not sure if it ever will be.
But if you are looking for Blakcberry Connect for WM, that does exist. See my post on this thread. And in the future, you might try searching some.

HI, I have been battling with BBC against to our BES due to policies and I heard from a very reliable source that the product will be ready for our deployment Q32008... So its is coming and I think will support the encryption etc and will be support friendlier since the interface is a propiraty BB interface. Plus, there aren't many security risks around virus etc since it will be a virtaul application suite that supports any BB application and doesn't integrate to VM mail client etc.... So, you can have your WM as a standalone OS once you minimize the BAS... These are great benefits for enterprise adoption and really simplifies the risks around the device support when compared to BBC running on any WM device (or symbian etc)...
as of 2009, it hasnt been released. At least its been showcased and that bring a hope for it to be soon.
it been 2 years since when RIM Compeny said they gonna release it but they haven't released it yet!
its a vaporware.. playing on our patience...
it would make WM so much more powerful... and blackberry so much more popular... when will the two organisations ever realise it?

Has anybody managed to succesfully sync OneNote?

I'm using Hyperdragon III and I also have OneNote 2007 but I can't manage to sync OneNote with OneNote 2007. I checked the OneNote box in the Active Sync options; I also uninstalled both programs and reinstalled again but to no avail. I can't get them to sync.
Is there another way?
PS. I don't know if this is relevant but I have Outlook 2003, which is synced perfectly with my phone. I don't know if the different versions are the problem or not.
Yes, kind of..
I have 'syncronized' OneNote Mobile successfully with OneNote 2007
However OneNote does not syncronize the whole database, only a section called 'Notes from <Mobile Device Name>, which is created when you set up the 'syncronization'. This was a big disappointment to me as I of course wanted all my notes on the phone for easy lookup on the road...
You need OneNote 2007 on your PC to get the sync to work.
With OneNote2003 you can only Sync PPC Notes into OneNote on your PC.
Ta
Dave
Thanks guys.
torefor, did you have any problems with the sync process?
Man -- I was excited to see that OneNote mobile came with my Kaiser when it got back from HTC for a motherboard replacement...
... but now I see that OneNote dedktop doesn't come with my 2007 Office Pro suite -- I'd have to but it seperately for $99
Oh well -- maybe I'll try the demo version and see if I think its worth it...

Really? Is there not a ONOTE or OneNote MSI with all the other MSI's for Office?
There is one with the package at my work, you just can't do it as part of the office install.

Dave
Man -- I see I was not able to spell when I typed my earlier message
Anyway, it's official -- onenote does not come with the Office Pro suite.
It does come with Enterprise, however, which is probably what you have at work.
Update: yay, it looks like I can get it through Microsoft's Work At Home program, and my work also uses the Enterprise Suite!

Onenote comes only with the base "Home and Student," the "Ultimate," which despite it's name does NOT have all Office features, and the "Enterprise" edition.

I'm amazed MS has had so much trouble selling this, as I think it's the best software MS has ever put out. Three months ago I was so fed up with MS that I decided to abandon them entirely and move to linux....well, there is NO good replacement for onenote and so I (very begrudgingly) returned. And yes, I did try running an XP VM to run onenote: this is a most unsatisfactory solution. Congrats MS, you lock-in worked in this case. (bastards)
I used onenote on my cell, laptop, desktop and work desktop, and it all syncs fine. Granted I have teh Enterprise edition so that might be the reasons everything worked out the box for me. It is true you need Onenote on the desktop to take advantage of it. To one of the earlier comments about where onenote on the desktop stores the imported notes, you can change that in under tools i believe.
My notes go to the right notebook, but from there i have to manually sort them out to the correct section.
look up some GTD with Onenote articles and it will explain how to set everything... The settings for the phone notes are the same as the settings for sidenotes...
i hope that all made sense...
btw just a little side note... I have a tablet PC so Onenote rocks with a digitizer pen, and being able to search my hand writing etc... So if you own a tablet PC, Onenote is a MUST HAVE APP
if you dont have a tablet PC, i really dont see a need for Onenote other than how it organizes pages etc...
btw OneNote & Groove work awesome together (aslong as your on a 32bit OS since groove doesnt work on 64bit)
