Just thought i'd ask this here as i know a number of you use for devices for reading
Where's the best place to get e-books from either free or purchase.
In either txt, html, or PDF format. The reason is i have just bought the sony portable reader, (what a amazing device it is), problem is you can only buy books from the connect e store if you live in the USA, and I'm in the UK
So any sites would be great.
Cheers...........
"problem is you can only buy books from the connect e store if you live in the USA" <-- that is weird. It is like saying, 'the email will only send to people in the USA'
Anyway, try this

You may also try http://www.fictionwise.com/ good collection including free books
I Know I e-mailed e connect store support and they reply was they will only accept payment with a US credit card ( they are a little hard to get in the UK ) and no plans for a UK release.
I'll have look at the sites provided though
Thanks....
I found a lot of free books at:
http://www.mobipocket.com/freebooks/default.aspx
I even found some Dutch/Flemish books there, good thing because it's my native laguage.
one of my favorite authors is at http://sennadar.plebian.net/
He has two long fantasy series and a short sci-fi book.
J-Man5
this might be a bit obvious i tend to get most of my books (those out of copyright anyway) from Gutenberg where they're all free to download.
i usually download them as zip files and view/read them with the last free version of ubook
This is a good site for various free ebooks - alot of current releases available.
http://www.baen.com/library/
Also I'll look up the address for the free download of the cd images of david webers books (honour harrington series and others - all sci-fi)
After doing some research and banging my head against a wall, it seems I've come down to 2 choices.
BeamReader PDF Viewer or Documents to Go
Having read review after review, Beam seems fine for what I need (reading PDFs on the go), but it still seems a bit of a mixed bag. Reports indicate it's not as "feature rich" as Docs to Go. Of course, the "feature rich"-ness of Docs to Go includes editing MS Office docs on the go... something I don't have a real NEED for at this time... but could in the future.
The obvious solution is to just purchase the cheaper of the two (Beam) and live with my choice if I do need better features in the future.
Instead, I'd rather go for the final showdown and get the view from fellow forum members.
Thoughts?
(Lack of links to said apps on Androlib is a result of my n00b status:
To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed.)
There is a free PDF reader by Maciej that does a perfect adequate job for those who occasionally need to view a pdf. It's not the fastest, but doesn't appear any worse that Beamreader when I tried their free trial.
I'm happy with Repligo Reader
Hey Everone,
I have a NC and I see everyone saying how they have hundreds of epub magazines and books that they sideload, etc...
I was just wondering where everyone gets their epub media, either free or paid? What are the best places to look?
Any advice for a noob with a Nook would be appreciated.
Look in torrent sites. There's a bunch.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
If you have Usenet access try the alt.binaries hierarchy and look for e-books. Tons of ebooks of all types.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA Premium App
If you happen to come across some books and magazines in the places the others suggested you can use calibre to convert them to epub format.
I like O'Reilly books because you can get them in multiple formats at any time once purchased including ePub and PDF. They run ebook specials all the time, so I'd recommend getting on their mailing list if you like tech books.
My Library. I can literally borrow tons of eBooks and AudioBooks straight from their Website. Sure they Expire after 2 weeks but hey, I didn't spend a cent and didn't break a single law. Usually I read a book once anyway.
And of course there are sites out there that let you buy a Book without Den but sometimes they charge a Premium or the selection sucks. Of course these are the Legal ways that don't involve buying from the Big 3(Google, B&N, Amazon)
You can go the Gray route of course, namely Shady sites or torrents but the dificulty of finding a book or magazine varies depending on popularity. It can be fairly simple and easy, or cost you hours of time and be near impossible. Also you usually have to know what your looking for beforehand, unlike other places that help you find books you might be interested in.
There's my 3ยข.

my biggest issue with torrents is that there are so many fake ebooks out there, for those who have downloaded tons that way, how can you be sure they're the real ones? For example, when harry potter book 7 came out, the ebook that was out there actually only had 3 chapters of the real story and the rest of the ebook was fan fiction! Someone put it out there to mess with people.
My second biggest issue with torrents is I don't like to bootleg (anymore). Although they charge an outrageous price for ebooks on the big 3.

Also, you might download laputa app...it's stores are all international and have less-than-legal books on there.
You can buy ebooks at www.baen.com in multiple formats (including epub) - all without DRM.
Read all you want for FREE and WIN a trip to PARIS.

Hello guys! I thought that I should start this thread in case you still aren't familiar with this app called " Appy Geek" by MobilesRepublic
I highly recommend this app if you want to keep up with the latest news, tech news and other geeks you could use
Here's a link to the mobile version : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5tb2JpbGVzcmVwdWJsaWMuYXBweWdlZWsiXQ..
Here's a link for the tablet version : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...republic.appygeektablet&feature=search_result
I've tried this before and I must say I liked the extent of the available content the app showcases. I do love me some RSS feeds though so I went back to my Google Reader. I recommend AppyGeek for people who likes reading about tech but hates the hassle of aggregating feeds themselves. This app will be enough to keep you up-to-date.

I discovered this recently too and love it. Does anyone know if there's a "mark as read" setting somewhere?
