While all we waiting for overpriced HTC Car Kit, i need to find way how to mount my precious toy in car.
I hate cheap universal holders from ebay, it look like s**t.
Only one available dedicated holder from Brodit cost more than half price of HTC Car kit - do they think i'm an idiot?
So.. i decided to make holder by myself, using existing parts (i.e. suction gooseneck mount). I was planning to mould holder from epoxy using middle part from iPhone holder, to avoid fiddling with mounting holes. But when i saw iPhone holder i noticed it's almost same size - almost...
I took propane-butane micro torch (cigarette lighter size) and carefully heated up plastic on the side, just 5 mm below edge. After that i was able to spread edges to fit HD2 size. And.. here it is:

You can also buy the HR holder that was made for the Motorola Moto Q. The HD2 fits in there quite nicely, with almost no modifications, just a bit of tape to make the holder about 0.5mm thinner.
Or you buy this one from ebay:

Hm? How should that work? I have the official car holder for the Omnia here, it grabs the device on the top and bottom side. If i image my HD2 in there (christmas is coming, slowly )...how should i get the charger to the micro USB port?
i bought a universal car holder in a shop near my home..and works very well, just hasnt a nicedesine but not so horrible
bought a car recharger always a universal kit..maybe it wont last 1 year but has a very nice option that most original dont have...the cable is like a dog string u push a button and it return in the holder without cable u can cut or press with shoes
recharger 13.99 euro
car support 17.99 euro

OK Just checked this out.
the HD2 is 120.5mm x 67mm x 11mm
The Moto Q is 116mm 64mm x 11.5mm
The Omnia is 123mm X 58mm X 12.9mm
The moto Q in narrower by 3 mm and the omnia by 9mm.
It must be a pretty tight fit to get the HD2 in?
If it isnt (as mentioned it need a vecro part) if the phone was in a silicon skin would it fir perfectly?

Not sure how compressible the silicone is or how sticky it would be against the plastic ?
That's why I used velcro; cheap, compressible, non marking - tight interference fit.

I'm looking for VENT (!!!) car mount for T-Mobile HD2. It has to be:
- swivel
- not PERMANENTLY attached, glued, etc
- low profile
- cheap (China/HK on eBay are fine)
- preferably allow me to use HD2 with low profile hard shell on it
- fits T-Mobile
I'm NOT looking for:
- suction mounts of any kind
- big ugly mounts with sticking out jaws ... they are scary
- fitted vent mounts for HD2 and not T-Mobile version
I know about Brodit/Richet ... but come on, they cost a fortune - cheap knock off is fine. For me
Would love a vent mount for the TMobile HD2 so I can mount it in my 2007 Silverado! I'll keep searching, and you keep us posted if you find anything!
I found one at Target - I cannot remember the brand, but it was advertised for the iPhone, wiht adjustable padded arms... $20
I bought this scoche mount have had it a week, and fully happy with it. Arms are adjustable to be taller if needed and it swivels. cost 19.99 @ frys electronics, or 24.99 with vent and windsheild mount. There is also a 9.99 model with no swivel. Hope this helps. http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/337/sfID2/364/sfID3/344/productID/1594
I'm looking for something like this. There are items for HTC HD2, but not for T-Mobile version

Sorry...I do not think you are going to find one specifically made to fit the TmoUS version unless you go with proclip (but its a permenant mount)
I ended up settling on this and it works pretty well...I too was worried that with the phone as thin as it is that the "jaws" would be huge...but its really not that bad at all. The holder is steady and does not wobble like the flexable goosneck style ones. It comes with both the windsheild mount and a vent mount...so you can use it either way.
I guess it works better because I can use it for my HD2, iphone, or Nexus One without having to do anything to it.

Buy some Kydex. You can use the same templet to lay it out. Heat the Kydex with a heat gun and mold it to the phone.
Go to knifekits dot com. they have the cheapest prices, and ship fast.
I have to recommend ProClip as well for this, even though it is the more expensive route. I'm sure you know the saying "You get what you pay for".
I've been using this company's holders for my past three devices. As I upgrade my device all that is needed is the specific holder for each new device, I already purchased the swivel and the mount. It is by far the best device holder I've used and I've gone through my fair share before finally doing it right. It is extremely solid and are made specifically for the vehicle you drive. I also purchased the desktop cradle. So from leaving my car I slide it out of the holder in my vehicle then slide it in to the cradle on my desk, very convenient.

brackets
check www.bracketron.com. I have a universal usb power dock for my HD2 and love it. They have all kinds of different products that can fit any phone. The one I have plugs into the cig lighter adapter, has a usb plug for the phone + another universal lighter port on it. Full flex & pivot. Prices seem to be between $20 & $30.
Thanks. Yes, I did find bracketon during my search. The only problem is that for HD2 they have universal adapter with all those huge jaws I wanted to avoid Otherwise it will be OK. Too bad they dont have anything low profile.
They look bigger on the website, only extend about 1/2 in above the screen with the HD2 in it. I like that the 'jaws' have foam pads, so you can cramp the hell out of the phone w/ no worries of scratching, holds no matter what case or battery back you have. I had a 'sleek' one for my TP2, but it would push the invisible shield off of the sides when I put the phone in.
Has anyone had a look at one of the Scosche car docks? I don't see how it holds the device in place, if it works then it looks like a nice compact little unit.

I just have a hard time believing that blue material is "sticky" enough to prohibit my tab from flying off there should I need to accelerate suddenly.
It's REALLY tacky. You can lift a bowling ball with that mount. Really.
Downside, that stuff is a grit magnet as well.

clingo makes products with same sticky stuff, i have couple of their products , it does get dirty and losses its "stickyness" but all you do is wash it with tap water and its back to the original sticky strength.

The mount shown has two adhesive pads so it should be fine

I think the scoche would work great. Overkill really. I bought this tiny mount and it works great for the galaxy tab. My got it with an employee discount is the only reason I chanced it. That stick'em on it is surprisingly strong.
I have the Scoche mount and it works great. The suction cup is made from the same sticky stuff and really holds itself and my Tab in place.
There is a warning included that it may discolor certain materials, so it is recommended to use it strictly on glass or with the included dash mount piece. I have mine mounted to the dash using the included piece (which uses 3m tape) and it's solid as a rock. Was kinda worried about it discoloring my tab, and the Zaggskin that I eventually added, but no problem with either one so far. Holds the tab really well.
I used one of those ratchet clamp style window mounts for an old PDA that I had and hated how it gripped the PDA. It would also lose suction on the glass and fall off, especially during hot days during the summer, and really cold days in the winter. The Scoche mount stays put and holds the tab much more securely than that old clamp mount did with the PDA.

Is this the same as the one your using? Is there enough of the sticky material to hold it tight?
Thats almost exactly like mine. And it sticks perfectly. I was a skeptic, but no longer. honestly it could hold the tab upside down if needed.

OMG! The sticky stuff melted in my hot car and dripped down on my stereo buttons clogging them! I live in SoCal so it's not that hot! If you live in the US South West, don't buy this item. If you live in Alaska or Siberia, you'll have no problem with the sticky material melting and dripping.

i just bought one very similar to this at walmart for $20. i have the gs3 and i took of the side clips of the mount and i have the body glove tatic case which is a candy/gel caze and it sticks right to it. its ridiculous how secure it is and i highly recommend it. it is a very well made and designed piece. looks super clean also. the model of the one i have is:
IPH3GRR
though i cant find it online anywhere, only the IPH3GR which is different? the one i have is just like the one in the original post although the flex shaft is longer, about twice that judging from the pics. my kit from walmart consisted of this: http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/2097 with the exception that it also included the window mount.

I bought an Arkon SM428 on Amazon.com for my Vibrant, but works just as well for the NS I just got Vibrant got smashed in car door . Dirt cheap too. Don't let the screws in the picture scare you, only necessary if you don't have a flat enough surface for the doublestick foam tape, which holds tight. Easy to rotate 90 degrees when needed.

Here's some pictures I took.
https://picasaweb.google.com/nXtIak/CDPhoneMount?feat=directlink
2004 Mazda 3i.
The bottom part is removable, have to remove it to be able to plug in a charger, since it's very very close to the bracket. Mount holds the phone fine with the sides.
I'm not sure how I'm going to use the mount. Installed up or down, been trying both.
You can only swivel the mount updown/left/right just a little bit, so I'm sure in certain cars you won't get a great view of your phone.
The mount does shake a little bit while driving. Tightening the cd slot screw does not help.
Overall, I like it.

The CD slot one is great. Really good quality, plus I like it mounted there a lot better than on top of the dash or the windshield. I have been using it for a couple months now and I still love it.
Plus it is very easy to remove to put a CD in if you want to use a CD, then you can replace the phone holder and the CD will still play fine.

I actually found this while wondering around BestBuy, which means Im sure you can find it for 50% less then I paid for it there. :ยบ)
Although our phone is not listed as compatible, it actually fits it like a glove, even in my thin case.

Got myself a cheap temporary dock for my Note 2 until I get the ProClip one in a month or two (waiting till after xmas). Found this one on Amazon for a nice $20. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FH716W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I like it so far. Very stable and has a good range of motion to it. No vibrations at all, (does start shaking a little bit when doing 150).
Also works nicely to hold it as a dash camera.
Also holds my phone with no problem with the Body Glove case on it.
Oh and that white square isn't part of it. Thats one of my NFC tags to start Waze and CoPilot whenever I put it in the dock.
Feel free to ask any questions and I'll answer them as best I can.

This dock is technically one of those "universal ones", but it works well because of the spring loaded lock.
When you press the phone in, it hits this little button and snaps the side grips closed on your phone.
Then once they are closed, to release, just press these two and it unlocks the phone.
And nice thing is, because of how you have to release it, the phone will fall into your palm and you can just grab and go.
thanks for posting this, looks like a nice mount, the only thing i wish it had was a built in microusb cable to automatically start charging without me having to connect it lol
+1 for STi
/highfive
The nice thing is that it will grab textured dash just as well. Mine has been on my dash for over a week and it is not losing it's grip.
Do the holders at the bottom block the mic?
Thanks for the pics and the review, I've been looking for a cheap dock. The phone falls out of the cubby holes in my car's dash. lol
can you show a picture with the arms at their WIDEST with the phone in it ? IE how much "wider" can it go? (my cases add a lot of bulk to the phone)
I don't know why you guys buy car dock for. Its big and ugly. Its always in the way. It looks like a cawk sticking out from the windshield. Its best to get a 1 inch rubberband and 3 dollar case and modify it. I had it done on my sg2. I'm waiting on my case and will post pictures later.
because in order to use the phone case as a dock you need to use the phone SANS CASE and that is not acceptable to me
as for why a dock? thats easy. fumbling with the phone while driving is a good way to die and possibly kill others ie don't do it.
dock makes it convenient. Slip Grip made a case for the impact case I use for the S3 hopefully they will make an impact case for the Note II and hopefully slip grip will make a grip for the Note II in the impact case

There is still a couple of mm on each side so it wil accomodate even an otterbox defender is my guess.

Hi,
I'm looking for a car mount that has a clamp on it. I've tried ebay, amazon and google, but all I can find are car mounts that use either suction, vent clips, bicycle handle bar attachments, or cup holder attachments.
All I need is a simple clamp.
The only one I can find is the trident AMS attachment, but there is no AMS case for this device. I was looking forward to the Kraken until they cancelled it.
TIA,
-PW
I want that one on the infomercial with the zillion suction cups on it.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II.
I have the Exogear carmount, it uses a clamp but the suction cup sucks onto a lot of surfaces. What you could do is use it on reverse, so clamp it onto the object and then suction cup your phone lol - the suction is pretty strong so I wouldn't worry abot it falling..not sure if the clamp is strong enough to hold the entire thing in place though.

I recommend the Exogear Exomount too. It has a large clamp and I've been using it for quite some time now without problems. It was a bit expensive but before that I got 3 or 4 cheap mounts and they were all crap.
I use it with my Galaxy S2 with an extended Momax battery (phone becomes quite heavy) with no problems. Very adjustable and strong, you can rotate to use the phones vertically or horizontally. It will be slightly shaky as most mounts and it is firm enough (except perhaps if you want to film pro-quality HD movies from the dashboard).
I remove it often to avoid theft attempts but so far it has never lost suction.
I also use it to hold my TomTom 25 stand-alone GPS. The TomTom is even larger and heavier (134 x 95 x 20 mm, 216 grams), but again, no problems as the clamp goes wide and the suction is good.
They are also compatible with many devices, due to the clamp system. Just be sure not to get the suction area dirty, if you remove it often.
I'm about to buy a Note 2 and am quite sure it will hold it very well too.
The one I have is exactly this one below. The clamp opens a lot more than shown with the iphone.

Exomount 2 does not seem to have vent mounting capabilities. For those that prefer a clip-type holder that mounts to a vent, this is a similar solution for less than half the price of the Exomount 2:

Walmart and Office Depot carry some that are the sticky stuff. I have one in my Element that holds my note with the defender case.

My luck I'd hit a big ass bump and my phone would hit the floor with the back cover still stuck to the suction cup.
Can anyone verify that all of these do work with the GN2? They all say in the product description that they work with phones up to 5" screens.

Indeed they do work. I have an Otterbox Defender and the clip works with that case too.
