exchange server - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

hi guys. i have a problem with sync with exchange server- on some roms i can sync, on some i can't. it's surely matter of certificates. is there a way to export certificates from one rom, and import them to another?
thanks in advance

Moved as not ROM Development

www.seven.com This is what I use for work. its pretty good and free.

Make sure proxy is disabled; if it is enabled, exchange does not work for me either, and on some Roms it is automatically on. Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> connections --> Advances tab --> Select networks --> Edit (under the top drop down box) -->Proxy Settings tab --> uncheck "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet
It may not work, but hey, it's worth a try.

Procedure to connect to active sync via wifi?

hi,
can anyone post a tutorial on how to connect to active sync via wifi?
i have a XDA IIs
Here's what I did to connect to my company's network. Please note that you hav to get IP address and DNS for your administrator. I hope this helps. Cheers
Note that you need to use ActiveSync 3.x for this; MS have removed WiFi sync from ActiveSync version 4.
One last thing... as 3waygeek said, in Activesync you have to check this option
Great posts...was wondering how to do this. Only problem is, i have a wireless broadband router at home and dont now what the DNS and Alt DNS is. How do i find these addresses. I have a Spirit wireless router for 802.11b devices.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thankyou
I am sorry, but for most people this is wrong, and a waste of time. IMHO.
First things first for a home user.
You'll need to dock your device and establish a partnership, by your normal way. You can not establish a partnership by Wi-Fi.
Next for most home users you'll need to go into your PC's network card properties and enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Then reboot your PC, and give it about five minutes to get to your router (DHCP Server).
Settings on your PocketPC,
You'll need to go to | Start (menu) | Settings | Connections (tab) | Connections (icon) | Advanced (tab) | then tap on | New... | under "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:"
Under "Enter a name for these settings:" Type My Home Network
Then tap | Proxy Settings (tab) | check only "This network connects to the Internet" leave everything else blank. Tap OK, Set "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" to "My Home Network" Both locations will now show My Home Network, tap OK | OK | X | Very important do not go back and look at your settings or they will not stay! Until you reach the today screen. Soft reset to load these settings.
Next go to www.cam.com and download vxUtil, install this on your PocketPC. You must be able to ping your PC, by name to be able to sync! vxUtil allows you to test your ability to ping. And NetBIOS enables your PocketPC to find the IP address of your PC.

Synchronising with Microsoft Exchange - Support Code 80072ee2

Hi !
I am trying to find different ways to synchronise with the Exchange Server that I use.
I have Outlook2007 on my home PC and synchronise my Kaiser with the PC's Outlook 2007.
I can see that I can change the location to the actual server in Microsoft ActiveSynch -> Tools -> Options
But when I try this, after a long wait it fails and gives the error message -
80072EE2
I find on a search that this means " The request has timed out. It is generally a temporary or recoverable situation. Try again later "
But it never seems to connect.
I do know that the exchange server and the home PC holds much the same info, for me, so, in reality, I do not need to synch to the exchange server at home.
But I am interested to know if I can synch, when out and about, using
a) a gprs connection,
b) the Kaisers WiFi
I am reading and searching but if anyone has any useful pointers, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Ofiaich
Your best bet is to do it slightly differently.
I assume your Exchange 2003 SP2 or 2007?
If so I assume you have an OWA server setup? if not set it up.
Then just go into (on the device), activesync, Configure Server, pop in the internet name of the server running OWA, pop user/pass in, then the rest of the settings as you want them
This has benefits over syncing with Outlook, the majour one being live mail (push mail).
One downside is (depending on your lan config), that the internet name of the server will not be accesable through WiFi on the same lan. To fix this make sure your DNS server knows the internal IP of the server, and map it to the internet name (i.e. if you internet server is mail.my.com then tell your internal DNS server to map that hostname to the internal IP).
After having push mail, you wont go back....
Hi the_ape!
thanks for your reply... I don't understand all, but I will work on it!
I use Outlook2007 on my PC and it connects to the university's
owa.name_of_uni.ac.uk
I wanted to see if I could synch with the server, download emails, reply, add contacts or calendar items, and deal with them at leisure, but when I am away from home.
I know I can use PIE or Opera to go to owa.name_of_uni.ac.uk but I think a gprs connection remains active...
I could see that Microsoft email push is an option on my phone but this is all new for me!

Setup on Outlook 2003/2007:
If you have an existing Outlook profile, follow steps 1-4..otherwise skip to the next section. These steps are for XP based machine. If you have Vista it will be similar but not exactly the same.
1. In Outlook, go to File --> Import and Export --> Export to a file --> Personal Folder File (.pst) --> click on the root folder in this window and choose “select subfolders” --> Click Next --> click browse and choose a location and file name for your .pst file. I suggest the desktop. --> Click Finish --> Click OK.
2. Let Outlook finish exporting your data. This make take anywhere from 1 minute to 30-45 minutes depending on how much data you have (e-mail’s, contacts, calendar).
3. On your XP Machine, go to Start, Control Panel.
a. Make sure your Control Panel is set to Classic View (Upper left hand corner of the window). If it says “switch to Category view” then you are good, but if it says “switch to classic view” then you should click it.
4. Double click on the Mail Icon within the Control Panel.
a. Click on “Show Profiles”
b. You should see your profiles here, most people will have one one and it will be called “Outlook.” THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THIS!
c. Click “Add” --> Type in a Profile name (e.g. Exchange 2007) --> Then proceed to step 1 below.
-----
1. If using Outlook 2007, At the prompt where you choose manual. If using 2003, ignore this part and proceed to the next step.
a. add a email account and choose Microsoft Exchange.
2. Microsoft Exchange Server:
3. Username: Full Name given at Signup.
4. then hit More Settings
5. then click on Connection
6. then click on "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" and then click on "Exchange Proxy Settings"
7. then type in mail.(your server).com for the URL
8. make sure SSL is checked
9. click on fast and slow networks, and choose basic authentication
10. Click “OK” twice
11. Then click Check Name
12. And the username/password box will pop open
13. Type in (Your Server)/User (this user is your e-mail address. For Example: your email address is [email protected], this is johndoe)
14. Type in Password
15. Server Name and User Name should now be underlined.
16. Congratulations! You are finished!
Setup on your PPC Device:
----
1. Start -> Programs -> ActiveSync -> Menu Configure Server
a. Server address:
b. Tick on ssl connection if your server uses SSL
c. Username: name
d. Password:
e. Domain:
f. Next -> Finish
g. Sync & Njoy
----
Setup on MS Entourage
1. Account name =
2. Name = Your Name Given at signup
3. Email = your email
4. Accountid= your ID before @
5. Domain =
6. Password =
7. Exchange server =
8. Check that server requires ssl....
9. Uncheck everything under advanced.
10. It should now work!
First of all thanks for your jewel job
I would want to signal the fact that I have followed step by step the whole procedure for the configuration of the server exchange but when I go to cover on the check name unfortunately it doesn't recognize me the inserted password. But is the password that of my email?
Thanks
Thanks austinsnyc!
I have read thoroughly, thanks !!
What does this mean ! " First of all thanks for your jewel job "
I am already using Microsoft Exchange on my PC using Outlook 2007.
The exchange account is managed by the local university. So I think I do not need to worry about sections 1 and 2...
I think I have a stupid question!!!
How do I find my 'domain name' ? That is the only setting I have mssing!
Now wading through uni. info to see if I can find it!

Usually it's the name_of_uni in your name_of_uni.ac.uk - if it doesn't work, you'll need to contact tech support at your uni to find out.
Hi Illrigger!
Thanks! I saw that too, on the university setup information.
On my Kaiser, that box is grayed out so I can't input it there !
I will keep at it!

once you put that @ sign in the user name feild the option for domain disappears. this is something new with wm6. so just try your email address and password without the domain. see what happens. it should work.
Yeah should be fine, you have a choice of using either the domain name, or the @ sign.
basicaly the domain name is everything after @, so username AT domain name
Let us know if there is a problem...
Oh to make sure that the Uni has the functionality turned on, try going to domainname/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
It should come up blank on a web browser, but that is the WebServices folder for this functionality.
Hi the_ape!
could you explain this last bit more please....

because, my university often does not want to support anything other that on-site, residence and dial up services!
with 'try going to' - how am I doing this? frm a PC, Kaiser ?
If I look at my Kaiser I can see ----
Programs > ActiveSynch > Meu > Configure Server ...
I have checked the server name, but the Kaiser took this information from the PC when synching with Outlook 2007.. I feel..
SSL is ticked.
Next -
User name is [email protected]_uni.co.uk ( it is not my email address. )
Password is correct and I re-typed it...
Domain - is light green, and cannot receive input.
save password is ticked.
Advanced -
If there is a conflict - Relace Item on my Device
Event logging - none
Connection - Internet ( only internet available. )
Next
Edit server settings -
All are unchecked - Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks ... because, for now, I synch to the PC's Outlook 2007. But I have experimented with these and get the Support Code - 80072ee2
Menu > Connections show USB only.
I know, when I am at home, my Outlook2007 on the PC is kept synched with the Exchange Server.... so yes, don't need this...
But I am hoping to do this via WiFi... at University or other WiFi hotspots.
Sorry to be so unclear !
Another edit - if I click on ActiveSynch - Tools - Advanced Tools - Get Device Certificates................. There aren't any!

quick question, if the name of the exchange server is different the first time you connect to it (i.e. "autodetect.name of univ.edu"), should we use that or the exchange server address AFTER it has been initially configured?
Doug2873
I got a feeling that you are correct because I got the Microsoft Exchange Server working now....
Outlook 2007 PC address on the PC was different to what I input to synchronise with my Kaiser !
Attachments in Hotmail still do not work, but don't care...! The email throught M.E.S. gives what I need !
Ofiaich
did you get it working?
Hi navigater!
I got the Microsoft Exchange server working,
but not attachments in Hotmail Live email.

Look in Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Edit my proxy server>advanced tab>HTTP
Mike
everytime I connect to active sync I losse my http settings for the proxy.
So here is what I did.
settings/connections/advanced/se;ectnetworks/edit medianet/proxy settings
This connection uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. I UNchecked that box. basicly I turned off the proxy.
now all of my apps can connect just fine.
This is with a stock ATT tilt.
I hope this helps others in the future.
At&T Tilt using HTC Kaiser ROM
nothing but IE or Email could start a data connection
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks
It had "My ISP" selected as the default
Changed it to "MEdia Net" and everything's gravy.

Diamon 1.93 Exchange Sync Problem

Hi Everyone,
actually i have a german VODAFONE brandet HTC Diamond. So long everything looks fine after the Firmware upgrade to 1.93. But i cant syncronize with my Exchange Server. Internet works on the phone but everytime i want to sync with Exchange i will get the error, "can't connect, check connection settings".
Any Hints?!
HINT: check your connection settings
Seriously though, no doubt there is probably a proxy server set up on the internet connection....get rid of it.
Start > settings > connections > connections
tap on edit my proxy server and make sure that only the top box is ticked and then tap ok.
The proxy on Vodafone Netherlands does exactly the same ****.
I allready checked the proxy settings! The rest of the Internet works fine...opera browser or the wheater module...
Hm it must be a Problem with the provider. The last check with a vodafone card was succesfully. But i want to use my Eplus/BASE card...
SOLVED: U have to select "ISP" @ "Select Network"

Invisible "MY ISP GPRS" - Any Ideas

Greets,
It seems a number of programs, including GPSTest and XM Radio, try "MY ISP GRPS" instead of MEdiaNet. However, the ROM I am using does not show "MY ISP GPRS" and it is misconfigured.
When I go to the Connection Setup and try to add "MY ISP GPRS" it refuses, saying that it already exists. However, only MEdia Net can be seen.
Does anyone know either (i) how to make the invisible MY ISP GPRS visible so that it can be properly configured or (ii) how to delete MY ISP GPRS when it is not shown on the connection manager.
Thanks!
*Thread moved*
Not ROM development related.

Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks --> Change both to read "MEdia Net" --> OK --> OK --> Restart device.
All connections to the internet should now go through MEdia Net.
