Hero and Shopsavvy... anyone else have problems getting local results? - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

Hi all,
I wondered if anyone using a Hero in the UK had managed to get local results to appear without having GPS turned on. From my understanding the app should be able to determine your location based on Wifi and/or phone tower location but no matter what I search for I can't get any local results. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know what the range of the 'local' search is?
Cheers in advance,
Michael

actually, I have just tried this with GPS on and still nothing so I suppose my question is has anyone in the UK got this working with the latest version and what is the range on local results. Also, does anyone have any idea what shops are included?

just tried myself and currently not finding anything local......

Thanks very much. Really appreciated.
Just glad it's not just me, been tearing my hear out with this. In case anyone is interested I have emailed ShopSavvy and it is in a queue to be investigated. Will keep this updated as and when I hear anything incase anyone is interested.

Activesync blues with the 1.40 upgrade... Ideas?

Hi guys!
I have seen a few posts from several of you regarding slow ActiveSyncs after upgrading to the latest ROM/Ext.ROM/Radio Stack, as available here.
I, too, noticed a HUGE slowdown while ActiveSyncing my device, right at the beginning of the sync... once things are moving along, it's okay.
Another problem I have is that every so often, it will start to sync, and then it will disconnect. I'll hear the chirps, but the green progress circle will still spin.
Anyone else have that?
Anyone discover any fixes?
Any ideas what's causing it?
Aside from that problem, so far the 1.40 ROM and standardized EXT ROM are going quite well.
I'd love to hear about what you've discovered regarding the painfully slow ActiveSync issue.
If there is another thread about this, please direct me... If not, maybe we could come together and find out what's causing this, and then perhaps we can solve it as a team.
Thanks,
Mike
If you are talking about AS via WiFI and how slow it is to make a handshake, you wont find any help here as far as how to fix this problem. No one on this board knows anything about it other than what is posted on the wiki.
I have tried upgrading and downgrading ROM, Radio ROMs, and cross grading. All kinds of ****ing ways and MS or O2 seams to just **** it up some how. Some ask you to upgrade to AS4, which in my opinion is really a downgrade because AS4 doesnt support WiFi.
Hey dude,
Actually I was just ASing through USB.
I seems like it's a lot faster now. It's picked up speed.
But sometimes it will drop the connection, so I have to take it out of the cradle and put it back.
Other problems lately are low volume, and I think my signal strength isn't as good as before.
I used to always get 40% sitting here in my basement. Now I am getting 20%'s and 30%'s.
I am excited to have the latest ROM and Radio, but the truth is, I think I was actually better off with the one that was shipped with the phone.
We'll see what comes out next...!

Actually, AS / USB works great on my unit and no disconnect at all. Do you have Wisbar Adv. installed? If so, what version/ build?
I can't comment on the signal strength since mine is always between 60 and 88% where every i go in the house.
Hey there,
Believe it or not, my AS is working flawlessly now.
No problems to report.
As for the signal strength and overall volume.. both seem to be a bit lower than before.
But it seems as if things are improving on their own!!

Audio issue

I was helping a friend root their phone and after a while we finally managed to get it done but now any time they connect the headset if someone calls it kills all audio on the phone until they reboot. I've looked for information on it and the only other thing I can find is on this point.

The suggested fix there is to reflash the radio which we have done but with no luck. Has anyone else had this and managed to fix it?
I have heard of other people with this problem and they used an app in the market called ongoing music adapter. At least i think thats what it was called. If that doesn't work then i don't know of anything else that you haven't tried.

Re-flash radio again and make sure it's the latest one (from HTC site or numerous threads here). I believe the one you need is 2.22.19.26I. Even if you have it already.. just reflash it once more to make sure, this is the ONLY cause of borked audio.
Good luck
I'll give both suggestions to my friend. I'll see how she gets on with the market app as it carries no significant risk before suggesting redownload and reflash of the radio again. Thanks for the help

Facebook and GPS issues

I apologize if this is a repost. I've done extensive searching on this and found only limited results.
My girlfriend has a Droid 1. We had her first Droid replaced due to a bad proximity sensor.
The replacement worked fine for about a month or so. Now she is having issues.
First, the Facebook app won't load at all. Additionally, we tried loading it on the browser and that didn't work. That makes me think that it's a Facebook issue not a Droid issue. Is anyone else having this problem?
Second, the GPS doesn't work at all now. It can't find her location. It just keeps searching. I've read a few posts where an app may interfere with the GPS. Has anyone had this experience? Also, I've heard of the app GPS Test and the fact that it can potentially fix the problem. Could this be true?
I am willing to try anything to make her happy considering I have to deal with the complaints.
Her phone is all stock 2.2. I haven't rooted it or customized it in any way.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Edit: Now I can't access my facebook. I have a Droid also.

[Q] google maps on nookie comb

First of all, thanks to everyone in here for being freakin awesome.
I am totally new to the whole android community, and the nook color.
I have had absolutely no trouble for weeks, flashing different roms, I have been able to find all the answers to my ?s in here. But, I have one problem I cannot seem to figure out.
I am running the latest version of nookie comb, and my google maps cannot find my location. I have gps turned off in settings, and I have location services set to use Wi-Fi. Other than that, I cannot figure out why it won't work. Anyone have this problem?
Thanks in advance

Just tested mine and have the same problem. I am going to test with tetherGPS to see if that works getting the data from my EVO.

Tether GPS worked perfectly so it appears to not be able to get location based off the network. Did you also have a problem with it finding your local timezone when you 1st set it up? (I did)
yeah, I had to do it manually. I have nothing to tether it to so I can't try that.
Not a big deal at all though, just wondering if anyone knew about it or had any solutions.
I saw it work on CM7 so it must just be some bug or something.

[Q] Is your compass working?

The other day, I was trying to navigate in my car using Google maps. Only the find that the direction pointer was always pointing either north or east, or somewhere in between. So I kept thinking I was going the wrong way!
I then downloaded a compass app and the exact same thing happens.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a custom rom, viperone 1.2.1, but is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? And should I try running an RUU to see if that solves it?
Or should I be contacting my phone provider and ask for repair/replacement?
Thanks in advance for any help!
