hey guys.
i'm currently on cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 and on Amon_RA's recovery 1.5.2
how do i go about backing up the stuff on my phone and sdcard? will doing a nandroid+ext backup on Amon_RA's recovery be enough? does the backup copy the rest of the stuff in my sdcard as well?
and lastly, can anyone point me to some info on how i can change the splash screen?
thanks in advanced for any help given!
There are couple threads on Splash screens - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467693&highlight=boot , and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3010171&postcount=1 , which is not hard to do just need to have adb and fastboot setup(which is in the Sdk setup), and a few other thing's depending on your operating system. I find this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529361 -to be very helpful if you have any question's or to just ask if you cant find it after searching. If you need any help just pm me and Ill be glad to help. Hope this helps
thanks plasmadragon007 for the links to creating the splash screens. but can anyone else provide help to my sdcard question?
much appreciated!

Hi I tried searching everywhere including Google for this solution and I can't find one anywhere. I know this has to be possible. Please if anyone has an answer or any kind of help in general I would greatly appreciate it.

Download EXT2 support for MAC http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx/
Then partition using the built in Disk Utility
It's really easy on a MAC
1)download the ext2fs plugin AND INSTALL !! (google it if you cant find it " how to partition ext2 on mac")
2)reboot
3)download the appstosd2 app
4)install on phone
5)open appstosd and select partition
6)let it do its thing
7)reboot phone
8)plugin usb
9)mount
10) you will get a error sayin that you need to first aid your disk press command I on your untitled partition or no_name partition
then proceed with apps2sd or with hero install
I am actually working on a Macintosh Version of a Tutorial I posted on AC forums. Once I get it working I will post.
Could somebody please give me some pointers on how to start and compile your own version of the recovery and adbd executables inside the recovery image?
I would like to add some things to the recovery menu but I'm not sure how to update the recovery executable.
After spending like 2 hours searching for the answer to this, im pretty sure this havent been replied so *BUMP*
Is there anyone out there that could point me in the right direction to opening, modifying and repacking the recovery.img?, Id like to add a password protection to the CM 1.4 Recovery image. I was browsing its contents on github and seems not a hard task to add this, but i dont know how to add the files that I modify inside the recovery.img pack
Help please?

You might want to PM Amon_RA
You know he made his own Recovery images for the G1 and Magic now haha
Its funny, he was here asking for help just a few months ago, and now he has two custom recoveries that everyone uses xD
I dont get why this was moved to question an answeres, this regards more likely development.

Wierd that this post was moved, this regards more about development that simple a question and answer.
I tried to contat Amon_RA now, I hope he replyes soon. I dont get why the mistery, this is supposed to be a forum for developers. Why no one can post how to do this instead of secretly beg for the info thru pms?

1) mount to your pc pull the apk you wish then use "7 zip" to extract it
2) boot into recovery(home + end call) go to partition...partition swap + file + ext
3) yes you can flash a boot screen using a zip file
For the bootscreens use Fresh's new kitchen. It has the nexus one bootscreen and a couple others. Then you just hit a couple of buttons and its on your phone without having to manually edit or even boot into recovery.
About me:
I have a mytouch3g running cyanogenmod 5.0.7ds
I have a mac, so most (pretty much all) of the boot screen instructions won't work for me.
The questions I have:
How can I change the boot screens on my mt3g
I found a .png that is awesome and I want to make it my first boot screen, how can I differentiate which boot screen I am changing?
Is there a less complex way of changing a boot screen than have been described? like a simple flash from recovery or something?
search button = answers
That doesnt help. i've read all the post about it already and they are all for windows, linux and the g1. none of which I have.
...A little help
If you have the Android SDK installed on your Mac... (which you should already have done) Kick your phone into "Fastboot" (I.E. Power+Back Button) From your Mac... Open up CMD line, and follow the same instructions you found for windows. Its really no different. As, long as you have properly installed the SDK and USB Drivers on your Mac. Hope this helps.
Also...
Read this post for the instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467693
Okay... I've installed Android SDK, I followed the instructions in the Cyanogenmod Wiki, and on the Android SDK website, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to run the SDK. I have Eclipse classic installed, but i'm just utterly confused. Can someone give me a description of how it's supposed to look or what i'm supposed to do or how I can get it up and running. I really need help with this.

Easy fix to all this. Take your desired boot screen and place it on your sd card. DO NANDROID BACKUP. Use Root explorer and copy and paste that bootanimation.zip into system/media folder and then reboot. Thats all there is to it
EDIT: Oh im sorry. Just noticed you want the boot IMAGE not the Boot animation. Sorry
I asked this same question about two days ago but put it in the android themes section. So far every response i have gotten has not worked. I know how to flash the splash screen when i get the correct image file, but my problem has been finding a way to change a .png or.jpg image into a .rgb565 image file. Every topic on xda that tells you how to do this requires a .exe program which me and you both know we can't run on mac without paying 50+ dollars for an extra program. I continue to look but so far the only solution i have come up with is to borrow a friends windows computer to convert my pictures. Unfortunately i just moved to a new city and don't know anyone with a windows computer. best of luck to you.
So I've been meaning to try out a new ROM/play around with my phone a little, but I can't seem to drag the zipped ROM file anywhere on my SD card where it can then be located by CWM in Recovery. I know the first time I did this, there were folders titled "download" and "backup" under clockwork when I opened the internal storage via PC. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out, I'm sure this is a stupid question but I've searched and couldn't find anything else to help me. Thanks in advance!

CWM backups go in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/ if you mean youre not able to get files to copypaste on your phone, try adb push and see if that works
