I've searched and googled and found that the animation on our flipclock has been disabled in an update. Surely one of the geniuses at this site can figure out how to reanimate it? I don't mind the lag on my homescreen, and I'd love to have a flip clock that actually, uh, flips!
Also, are there any widgets that act as a simple scrollable dock? Like a 1x4 transparent box that you can add shortcuts to and scroll through them, like BetterHome? I don't much care for BetterHome's lack of widgets, so I bounce back and forth between HTC Sense and PandaHome. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a ton.
i would love to c that
Trust me iv'e have a poll up on MoDaCo and even raised it in numerous posts on here, no one seems bothered about it. I'm confident someone here could get the animation working, but i don't think they want too :/
if you guys could be bothered to search you might have found one of the at least four threads about the flip clock animation. and i think the outcome is pretty clear: if you want flip clock go back to an old rom that still had it.
i don't think it is that easy to port apps (esp. those from htc, that are not part of the AOSP) to a newer rom version. i am sure if it was someone would have done it, as there were lots of requests for this.
and if it is that easy, why don't you do it yourself?

Thanks for pointing that out but alot of Devs on here have achieved a lot so we assumed it could be done.

So, the Hero widgets rock, but we cant port them. So I was wondering if anyone wanted to attempt to remake the weather/twitter widgets in 4x4 using the same style as the music and search widgets supplied with cupcake? I mean making them with the same white to transparent background as the cupcake widgets...Does this sound possible or like too much hard work? We already have weather widgets and we can rip the Htc icons out of the apk's.
That's definitely not hard to do, especially since twitter is so easy to implement into anything. I don't have much Java programming experience, but I'm learning.
I wonder why no one replied to this thread yet, the 4x4 widgets are a good idea =/
Why hasn't this been done yet?
The Hero widgets gave me a reason to run Hero, really. I can't stand those little widg-ettes that the other builds have... they're too small and plain looking. Big is better in my opinion.
As a matter of fact, the next generations of widgets should be 4x4, period.
I usually make a custom wallpaper for my lockscreen or homescreen everytime I switch a rom but so far they are pretty elementary mostly because I have no idea what the hell I am doing lol. I am on a mac so I am working in GIMP but I have a few things I cant figure out. I am uploading a picture of what I have so far. I would like the black areas around the pictures to be semi-transparent and the edges of the pictures themselves to be rounded slightly to give it a smoother feel. I will upload the individual pictures also. I would much rather learn to do it myself but I understand if for whatever reason no one wants to show me. Believe me its not the end of the world. Just something I like to have so when I pull my phone out at work I can see my family. That is me, my wife, and daughter,by the way. ....oh I also wanted a small slightly-less transparent box around the time and smaller but proportional boxes around the sprint and date. I know its alot but I got this image in my head of the perfect lockscreen and not a clue on how to get it to the phone lol.
oh and the reason I posted this in CDMA and not themes and applications was because I wasnt sure if to get the transparency it would have to be update.zip style and I wasnt sure if it made a difference if the phone it was being flashed on was CDMA or GSM. Oh and I am on modaco 2.0
I've got the photo shop experience for this, but I can't seem to find the images in com.htc.resources.apk or lockscreen.apk that need to be edited. If you can point out which images control the lock screen, I will help you with this.
I'll write a quick how to later when I have a linux box/gimp at my hands.
I was just looking into this myself. I know that any overlays are a file known as lockscreen.topedge. I am not good with Photo shop so I havent tried but I downloaded a lockscreen and extracted the .apk and found that image to be the overlay. You could create a picture and use the wand function to single out the background, add transparency to it. I wish i had to the time to mess around with it but work isnt the place unfortunately.

I wish work wasn't the place for this kind of stuff
Well it would be if i owned a laptop. Lol Hopefully I can dig in tonight or tomorrow and see what I can do.
The 1st part of what u need I can probably help with, u want the black background semi transparent and the pictures of you and your family rounded a bit correct? That's what I understood from there. The second part I'm not so sure of still
I see in gimp that there is a menu layer ->transparency but I cant see how to make certain regions transparent and if I try to make the whole image semi transparent I do not know how to preserve that transparency through saving, transferring and applying the image to the phone. I figured it would be better off as an overlay as NOJs lockscreens are but I am unexperienced in update.zip and how to sign and package them. I could push them via adb but I am not sure where to push overlay images to the lockscreen. Thanks for all of the help yall are giving me I really appreciate it. This stuff can get frustrating nice to have helpful people in the community.
I am not sure if you are willing to pay a few bucks for it, but i know that Noj is taking requests for custom locksreens for a small donation.
You can find Noj's custom lockscreen request @ Flipz's GeekFor.Me HERE
p.s. I would love to see someone write a quick tutorial on which files need to be edited to make our own lockscreens.
Im really hoping to learn how to do it myself I'll go broke as much as I change the pictures on my lockscreen(about twice a week) lol
The reason you are having issues is due to you probably not following a correct workpath in PShop/GIMP. Use layers/masks/etc.
really he would make u pay money for a little project -___-, well since i dont work today let me take a shot @ this, ill post up what i done later

I stumbled coincidentally in this thread. I wrote a tut for Desire HD recently, since this mod is one of the easiest around anyway. This should answer all your questions.

OK, I know right off the bat that this is a dumb question, but I just can't figure out what the big deal about Espresso is. I've searched many, many times, but that just brings up people asking how to install it.
What I'm curious about is what's the big deal? What does Espresso bring to the table? Functionally, not cosmetically, why would I want Espresso on my phone?
Because if it's just a cosmetic change, people surely wouldn't be cluttering up threads so much asking about it, right?
It brings nothing but a newer looking Rosie Bar. I for one cant stand it and would prefer the stock Rosie to Espresso. Ive also grown to like the Droid Launcher...

OK, thanks.
That's pretty much what I thought, but so many people seem so very, very eager to get it within 10 seconds of a new rom release, I thought maybe it might add some actual functionality.
But if it's just the cosmetic change, then I agree, it's butt-ugly. Stock Rosie looks much better. Haven't tried out the Droid launcher yet, I'll give it a look. Gotta say though, I'm not sure about ditching Sense. It's not so much Sense itself I'm attached to, but some of the widgets that depend on it....
I for one think any variation of rosie is ugly, I prefer nexus launcher. I also liked launcher2, with the app dock. That sinistermashes dudes idea for a dock as a launcher was a kewl idea. Conservative and intuitive.

Neither the Droid Launcher or Espresso themes ditch Sense. They just change the look of the launcher bars at the bottom of the screen. All the Sense features and widgets still work fine with either of them.
I like the stock rosie or the nexus launcher, at least those tell you which screen you're on. The expresso doesn't and it's big... too much space taken up.
I don't get what the big deal is.

Mind directing me to a screenshot of the Droid launcher? I'm intrigued.
Can anyone tell me how to restore the stock rosie? I want that expresso gone.

I'll check it out. As I said, I'm not attached to sense, I just can't bring myself to get rid of a few of the widgets that rely on it.
That said, from a cosmetic point of view, I think Espresso is going about 10 years backwards from a UI design point of view. I also think the stock, Google developed Android launcher belongs somewhere in the Windows 3.1 league.....
Then again, I also don't understand why people give a crap about the lockscreen. I always just do a quick double click on the menu button and never see it in the first place.
Maybe I'm just not the target audience for these particular tweaks....

Id give up sense in a heartbeat if i could find a bookmark widget and email widget as nice as senses. And the full weather animations too.
I hear beatiful widgets has animations? Same level as 2.1?
Community,
I am sorry to make my first post a request. I was browsing through this forum the other day and came across an amazing theme/rom (cant remember which). I didn't know a whole lot about how to do what so I went to investigate what I needed to do to get my phone to look that cool. Now that I know what to do, I cant find the post that had the theme/rom. Here is what I know.
-It was in the past day or so that I found the post and I am pretty sure it must have been in one of the first pages of the captivate forums.
-It might not have been the main theme in the post, and instead been a link posted at the start (crediting the inspiration of the theme)
-There were pictures of screen shots in the post
-Its look was very metallic, almost rusty
-There was a circle segment going across one of the screens, I think it was the dock on the main screen
-very simple, dark and apocalyptic
If anyone has any clue which theme/rom this might have been, I would be forever in their debt. I would also appreciate any advice on how to search better for this...I have been at it for hours.
Thank you so much,
Dezdemona

Thanks for the reply. I do like that one, but it isnt the one I was referring to. The one I was looking at had a brownish red type feel to it.

Different animations when swiping home screen?
Does anyone know what them or launcher uses the option to change how you swipe through your homescreens?
Also, when i was running COG 3.04 i had a scrollable bottom dock bar..can't seem to figure out how to get it. Couldnt find it in the options menu's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The reason you had a scrollable dock in cog 3.04, was because it came packed with launcher pro (I think..). Launcher pro has the option to have multiple docks. It also has different transition options between homescreens.
Another that does the aforementioned is adw.
Hope this helps!

So you are running a HTC Droid Eris theme on your phone?
That's a nice theme, I'm likeing the keyboard/keypad interface. Has a very fresh/clean look to it, I wonder if I could use it somehow..
I've had my hero for a year, i've rooted and had numerous roms installed, but never had a very cool screen. i've really just had the basic screen, just changed wallpapers. i've looked on "post your screenshots" and there were some awesome screens. They didn't really go into great detail on how they got it to look like that. if somebody could give me some tips or just point me in the right direction, that would be great.
I'm in the same boat.... Just found out Sprint changed their upgrade policies so I'm stuck with my Hero for another year and just started playing with different themes. It gets really confusing, but if you go to the Hero Theme pages there are a lot of things you can try. Just make sure you have a good nandroid to flash back to if things go wrong, and read, read, and read some more until you understand the instructions. The Skulls & Dragon Themes were pretty easy to use....forgot which post # it was.
Skulls, Dragons, and Black theme can all be found at this thread.....

Most of the time if you QUOTE the SS, and ask the poster what setup they have, they will most likely tell you.
Alot of it relies on using a different launcher, namely launcher pro, adw launcher, or go launcher. Then you download lots of different apps like minimalistic text, desktop Visualizer, simi clock and lots of other stuff that give you lots of ways to customize your screen.
Like stated above, go to the screenshot thread find a look you like and try and imitate it. If the original author didn't say what he used, quote the post and ask if anyone can tell you. Most people who customize a lot can tell exactly what programs someone else is using.

Thanks for all the info. I'm going to try some stuff out tonight. I'm using adw launcher ex right now.
