stationary background? - Android Themes

is there a way to have your home wallpaper at just 480x320 resolution where it just stays in the same place & doesn't scroll behind the icons? without using a home replacement app.

"wallpaper set and save" in the market

I am not sure what the previous post meant? You need to compile your own launcher with eclipse. When you download the source from git, there is a launcher.java file which allows you to change the number of homescreens. I am trying to figure out how to do the actual compiling. If you find out let me know.

I think I have this figured out. When I am able to make a 3 screen launcher, I will also do a 1 screen, and post it for you.

what he wants or wants to know, is if it can be set up to make his icons more from screen to screen, but have his wallpaper not move (now it moves a little bit left or right when you slide to a different screen.) I have never seen such a thing myself to stop this from happening.

the "wallpaper set and save" app worked perfectly. thank you

Wallpaper Plus
well you can use wallpaper plus but its a paid app but it works and you can also crop the selected image for the single screen and that'' leave it as one image but will suck in landscape since its cropped and wont strecth but i suggest it, works very well

what I do is, I take a 320x480 image and use wallpaper set and save app, and the wallpaper doesn't move just my 5 screens do, but I don't know if thats a possibility on the stock rom, I;m using CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1

what someone should do is make it to where itll show a DIFFERENT wallpaper for every screen...

Wallpaper question

All,
Where should I put my images that I would like to use for wallpapers? Even with the stock images, I noticed that depending on what menu I used to set the wallpaper, some were resized strangely.
NC 1.1 Autonooter 3.0 Zeam Launcher.
Thanks!
where you put them shouldn't impact the image size. you can put wallpaper images anywhere really. i put them in /media/wallpaper on my sdcard.
I tried saving images from websites using the built in browser and then set them as wallpaper, but that didn't work.
I downloaded Opera Mini from the market and then I could properly save images and set them as wallpaper.
Maybe there is a setting for the native browser that allows for proper saving, but I could not find it. Anyway, Opera is a pretty decent bowser so I'm perfectly happy using it.

Thanks for the tip. But, I'm trying to use my own pictures - not web images.
1200x1024 is the proper size for two screens. 1800x1024 for 3. you could try resizing before setting as wallpaper to see if that works for ya. make sure you expand the box to take up the entire image when selecting it or it will mess up the sizing.

Thanks. Happen to know the right size for 1 screen? is it 600 x 1024? (seems to be if my math is correct)
But, what I'm more curious about is where to put the files. Seems there is a /media/wallpaper on my sd and my internal. Which should I use? I want it to show up in my "wallpaper".
Also, happen to know if it is safe to delete the stock pictures / wallpapers. Some of them are downright ugly.
Thanks!
don't know about deleting the stock images. you could try... i doubt it'd hurt anything, but just to be safe, make sure you nandroid first.
ya... i've never done a single screen, but that is the right math... 600 per screen.
either place will work. i've loaded them in both locations and they work in either.

I had the same problem, solution is to download coveroid. Any wallpaper you want will just go into the coveroid download folder, and then set the wallpaper from inside coveroid. For some reason the non-default launchers cause issues with setting wallpapers, but coveroid seems to fix this.
1200x1024 is the correct size for 5 pages. When you slide from one page to another the background doesn't move by full 600 pixels. It only moves by 150 pixels.
The built-in gallery function scales the pictures in an ugly way when cropping for use as wallpaper. It's a conflict between 3 screens of the B&N Nook and 5 screens of the typical Android launcher.
I followed the sticky with tips and downloaded the Wallpaper Set & Save app. It lets you navigate for pictures through directories and sets them as wallpaper while preserving the resolution if correct to begin with. I'm very pleased with it. My wallpaper now looks correct.
Thanks for the help!
I hope to have some cool wallpapers soon. It helps to have a Pro photographer in the family.

[Q] Removing aspect constraints for wallpapers?

Hey guys. For a while I was using a wallpaper that was actually two wallpapers, half on one side half on the other side, and 2 homescreens. What this did was let me have a "different" wallpaper for each homescreen.
I am completely redoing my homescreens with widgets and to make it overal more informational/functional. I will now have a total of 4 screens, I might stick to 3 screens if I get rid of my calender/agenda widget.
The problem I'm having is when I make a wallpaper with 3 or 4 images of the same size as the screen, when I go to set it, it forces me to select an area based on that aspect ratio... I want to get rid of it, so I can use a wallpaper that's 3 or 4 "screens" wide, and use 3 or 4 homescreens. That way when I scroll over screens it has a different background.
Is this possible? with either forcing the picture manually somewhere? or with an app of some sort?
Thanks in advanced for any input!

You just need to shrink the image down to the right size.
Thats the point... I don't want to have to make it the aspect ratio it wants me to. I have a picture the size I want, but when I want to use it, it cuts off extra on the side that I put there on purpose in an effort to make it appear that I have a different wallpaper for each homescreen.

Its not the size that you want if its cutting off the sides.... lets toss some logic into this.
There is a live wallpaper that does what your looking for, its called multi live wallpaper or something similar to that.
How do you know what size I want. I'm telling you what size I want. And I want it for a reason. Try reading through both my posts.. I can't see how o can dumb up my goal any more that what it is...

I've already told you what you need to do. Use it or don't, I don't care.
I believe Android limits the maximum resolution to 2x width of screen resolution. I'm not sure as I have no experience with other screen sizes and Android. Increase would require some depth of code manipulation that may result in more RAM use than would be practical.
I'm talking out of my ass here, but really, if Google thought the idea would have been practical, they probably would have implemented it to begin with, or in one of the many updates Android has had.
Maybe request the author of whatever 3rd party launcher you like make it an option. I'm sure the launcher programs can be written at the very least to place images over the home screen.
MultiPicture Live Wallpaper
This will allow you to have a different picture for each screen.
You could also try something like Flikie. I am not sure if it will manage images greater than 960x800 in resolution. Never tried it. Might be worth a shot
Went with the Live Wallpaper thing. Thanks for that input!

HOW TO apply a 1024x600 hd wallpaper

this will blow your mind on how crystal clear the wallpapers can be when we use native 1024x600 resolution. this is not some blown up 480x800 blurry wallpapers we always see to acheve wallpaper scrolling wich I always have off cus it lags my scrolling

Or just check the long-standing steps posted in the OP of a stickied thread in this very forum There is a quick & dirty solution there, but also my steps to get a pixel-perfect wallpaper.

PS: 1024x600 is too small. You need a bigger image than that if you want to have it move in the background a keep an un-stretched image. We use the same size as the Galaxy, which is 1200x1024. That seems to give me the best results.
that method involves cropping the picture. my method SHOWS THE WHOLE 1024x600 picture (no croping)and its a tottaly diffrent way of the one that's posted on there. and I also mentioned I dont like having the wallpaper scroll at a cost of performance. if u wanna do it your way by all means I'm just sharing my way of doing things. cheers

Well you only need to crop the image if it's not the right size already, which is true of any method of setting a wallpaper, including yours. Not to mention that your method breaks in 50% of supported orientations Hardly "tottaly diffrent..."
And I have no idea what performance hit you are seeing from having a scrolling wallpaper. I've had no issues at all on Android 2.1 or 2.3, both at stock or with an OC'ed kernal. I mean, you're of course welcome to use whatever settings you want, I just dont know what performance hit you're talking about.
Either way, this just seems like a bunch of extra steps to accomplish the same thing that has been posted previously, just with less functionality. I dont mean to sound malicious; I just dont understand what advantage you're offering people.

Thank you so much
You are a genius cowballz69!!! Not only did this solve my problem and keep me from having to crop, resize, etc, etc, it also allowed me to have random wallpapers, different size wallpapers, etc. And they all scale excellently and look wonderful on my Nook Color! I was even able to mess around with the program settings and get an accpetable workaround for the wallpapers in portrait mode. (I have the mirror effect above and below the image, looks nice.) Thanks again!
Is this 1-1 pixel mapping when done either way?
I haven't even tried putting a wallpaper on other than the defaults yet, too busy exploring other NC features.
I tried every single method out there, this was the only one that really came out nice and crisp. Thanks man.
After reading up, i also tried ES File Explorer's Wallpaper function and got very good results, not as good as your method, but i would prefer to not run a live wallpaper if possible and got good results. I hope a surefire solution to this wallpaper situation shows up for the nook one day. I force the nook to landscape btw.

I just tried Wall Switch with 1024x600 wallpapers and it still insists on cropping and otherwise adjusting the pics.
edit:
On the subject of the thread, I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't been fixed yet. Usually you guys jump on wallpapers and themes right after root.
I don't understand why the settings aren't built in that will allow us to just go choose a 1024x600 image, apply it in the correct orientation, and not let it move no matter how the screen is tilted. I don't want my wallpaper to scroll or change at all. That seems like it should be easy to do.

Issue with wallpapers on gingerbread roms?

So I have noticed (and mentioned this in the Continuum rom developmental thread) but I noticed this in the Serendipity Rom (I am currently using now) as well so I thought I would make a new thread for it to draw some attention to it.
I made a custom wallpaper to use (with only one screen to use 480 x 800) and after making it and putting it onto my phone. I made it my wallpaper but it seems to zoom in on the centre of the wallpaper ( an image will be attached to this; it is not exact, but it shows what I am getting at) This never happened with froyo roms but it seems that the gingerbread roms are having this issue.
I tried everything i could think of to get it full size but doesnt seem to work
when you chose wallpaper it generally brings up the picture with a grayed out are around a orange (or whatever colour is the default for your theme) box. if you drag the very edge of the box some arrows will show up and you can expand it to fill the entire walpaper then just hit save and your done

Yes I know this. I've done this enough times to make sure I have covered the full wallpaper and I have. As I can see the whole wallpaper on my screen visible in my selection. But when I accept it it zooms into the red area.
maby try using a different launcher and see if that helps and if not and if it is widspread throughout the rom then its probobly a problem with the galary.apk on that rom
Tried different launchers still the same thing happens so it must be something thats going on in the roms.
Anybody else with ideas?

NO I don't want to crop my 1080x1920 wallpaper.....

I'm trying desperately to love my android device, but it keeps tripping me up with stupid things that I swear shouldn't be this difficult.
Latest issue is that I have a gorgeous 1080x1920 wallpaper that I would like to set as my background. Considering the M7 has a 1080x1920 resolution you'd think that this would be a match made in heaven, but NO for some reason both the gallery app and es file explorer are forcing me to resize the wallpaper to some awful square resolution that kills the quality of the wallpaper.
Reading around I understand that this may be due to the wallpaper scrolling feature, but if that's so I'd just like to switch that feature off and have my background be static. Can I find such an option....nope.
So please, someone put me out of my misery.

Funnily enough I've downloaded that and a load of other wallpaper apps and none get it perfect.
With the app above, if i select a 1080x1920 wallpaper and tell it not to resize, it looks perfect in the preview, but as soon as I apply it, there is a 15mm black border at the bottom of the home screen. It's almost like its reserving some space form the 3 dot menu.
It's driving me f**(^ing insane. I cant believe android is so retarded. Even Windows 3.1 could set a bloody wallpaper full screen.

Let's keep in mind that it's not Android that's stupid, it's Sense (at least parts of Sense). Stock Android/CM/etc can set full res wallpaper images without issue.. You could probably even set a full res wallpaper with a 3rd part launcher
