What does this mean? (Picture attached) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So . i am trying to install the CyanogenMod. I had rc30, downgraded, rooted (by doing this: http://bit.ly/vk4n). then i made the flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img thing. finally i started up in recovery mode, applied the DRC83 file and the rom. I restarted the phone, i could see the "T-Mobile G1"-logo, then it disappeard, then CyanogenMods' blue logo appeared.. After a while, it disappeard and a blank, black screen appeared, and nothing happend since then..
So, i would like to try again, i installed the RC29 again, but now, i cant attach the phone to my computer, it simply doesnt detect it. (cant connect to adb shell to do the wi-fi registering). So i tried to boot up in recovery mode again, but this is what i get:
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s242/xabdullahx/Billede0253.jpg
What is this?
How do i fix the phone so i can try to put the CyanogenMod rom again.
BTW. this is my first flashing attempt

If you reinstall the RC29 you lose root and you didnt install the radio needed for custom roms.

i installed a file called "DRC83_base_defanged" . what is it?
and how do i install the radio?
Btw. I followed this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod

Bump.
What should i do :/
My computer doesnt detect my phone, i cant do the registering via wifi trick :S
I just want my phone back to its normal state with rc30, able to connect to computer and able to go to recovery mode.

You should follow 1 click root guide..its pretty simple..

when you see that screen. hit alt+l i think to pull up the recovery menu.
if you don't have a card reader, you can mount your g1 through the console on your recovery menu. just google "mount g1 through console" for directions. hope that helps you get the right files on your phone to flash.
good luck!

First, you are at the wrong screen. You should not be in fastboot mode in the bootloader for updating themes, you should be in recovery mode.
I suggest you perform a wipe to possibly bring your phone back to normal at least. It can be done by turning off the phone, then pressing and holding the back and home button until you enter recovery mode.
From there press alt + w to wipe the phone.
Then restart by pressing back + home.
Next, before installing the theme, make sure its the correct one for your phone. Check with the author if it was made for RC30 or RC8, and if it is a non-wipe theme, because if it is not, you will be stuck at the Tmobile G1 splash screen (aka be in an indefinite loop) like your current situation.
If you are trying to install browser.apk (im assuming the multitouch browser - please correct me if im wrong) you will need to install JF 1.41 first. By default it will include the multitouch version of browser.apk
Please provide more information about your situation, and keep us posted.

Sorry, I should have provided more information, and explained that the 2nd half of this post was my original post, which was just me asking how to correctly use ADB. I do already have JF 1.41, I upgraded yesterday. It wasn't my first theme I installed either. I was using Vintage War (for the Dream), but it hadn't been updated for 1.41, so I was trying the standalone apk adb push method found in this forum, which is where this post first oriented.
I was in recovery mode for installing themes, I'm using JF 1.41 RC30, with the HardSPL bootloader. Initially after installing the theme it would go blank after the g1 splash, so I had tried to install it again hoping it would fix it, unfortunately my thumb is a bit to fat and I hit alt W instead of S, anyways that is what put me into this infinite loop.
But like I said this wasn't my first time trying to mod the phone, I've had it rooted for a month or so now, and have been keeping up-to-date.
Any more information I can provide, please let me know. My phone is my livelyhood, I need it. So if anyone can help, the sooner would be better. Either way I am entirely greatful for any help anyone can provide. Thanks in advance!

It is weird how a wipe caused you to go into an infinite loop. Which apk's did you try to push to your phone?
I would suggest to go without using the theme for now. JesusFreke had pointed out that some themes were causing problems for the new 1.41. update. You should check with the author of the theme to see if its compatible with the new 1.41 (which it should be since RC30 1.3, RC30 1.31, and RC30 1.41 are all compatible)

....How do I get out of the loop. My phone doesn't get passed it. There has to be something I can do in console or recovery or something. I'm really sorry if I'm coming off as rude or demanding but I really need a phone, and I need it right now. I don't know what more I can tell you before someone can finally give me a solution (sorry)
1. Download RC29
2. Copy it onto your sdcard
3. Reboot your phone into the SPL with Power+Camera
4. When prompted, press the end key to start the reflash.
Note: this will completely wipe the flash chip on your phone and revert everything back to factory. You will need to re-root your phone and update to JF1.41
Next time, use nandroid to backup before installing themes, etc.

That's easy. Just grab a copy of the fastboot utility and the images off your sdcard in the 'nandroid' directory and boot your phone into the SPL. Plug your phone in via usb and press the back button once and you should see "Serial0" change to "FASTBOOT" Then open up a windows command prompt in the location of the exe you downloaded and run:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot reboot
Your phone will come back up with all of your applications, settings etc from when you did the backup. Keep in mind you need the HardSPL to do this though(look for three androids on skateboards in SPL). The G1 factory bootloader does not support fastboot, only NBH images that come from the factory.
Hi, my situation is a bit worse:
I have a Dev Phone, upgraded to JFv1.41.
Today, I got the pop up message telling me to do a "system holiday update 2 of 2". I press "Update now" and the phone got reboot. Since then... I could not get through the first screen that has the word "Android" at all, not even to the screen where Android icon is flashing. It just freezes right there.
The only way to turn off is to take out battery. I could not enter recovery mode through pressing Home+Power. One time, the screen actually turned into weird color patterns. Is there anything I can do? consider that I don't have any nandroid back up image at all?
I tried to download the DREAIMG-RC29.zip, unzip and copy to the sdcard, then reboot into the SPL with Power+Camera but nothing happens, just a 4 color screen said "serial0".
Thanks in advance.
Isn't the 4 color screen the standard bootloader that ships with retail G1's (not a dev phone bootloader)?

I had the same problem, almost verbatim. ADP1.1, JFv1.41, ran the Holiday update 1 of 2, no problems, did the 2 of 2 update, got stuck at the flashing Android boot screen. Pulled the battery, rebooted, same thing, waited 2-3 minutes at the flashing screen and was just about to pull the battery again and then all of a sudden the damn thing came to life, the OS loaded up and now everything's working fine. Gave me quite a scare.
ummm actually the fastboot utility wont work for my computer soo what shoud i do.... if anything i need a really good reply something long cause im new to this and my fone wont get off the android sign.

Why have you just hijacked a 5 month old thread? You haven't given use any details either. Fastboot is available for all OS's, it will work on your computer, you just probably don't know how to use it. Please make a new thread in the Q&A section where we can help you out there.
This should be closed or moved to Q&A.

bootloader screen flahes when powering on

ok i have run into this weird issue with my G1. it was working perfectly fine yesterday. i turned it off and charged it until it was fully charged like i usually do, but when i turned it on the boot loader screen flashed and the phone turned off! this happens whenever i try to turn the phone on. i cant get into recovery becuase the bootloader screen just flashes. when i try to get to the bootloader screen, it starts up fine but then looks for an image and turns off again. this started happening a few days after flashing haykuros spl if that helps. am i bricked or is there a way to fix this? thanks in advanced
edit: i am also usin the latest experimental build from cyanogen although i dont think this is the problem.
edit2: i managed to get my phone to start up, but im afarid to switch it off just incase it starts happening again so im still looking for a solution to this problem.
edit3: ok back to square one, my phone froze after fully booting up, restarted itself and now the problem is back! wow this is annoying.
it sounds like your camera button could be stuck. if you want to test this type reboot recovery into the recovery console and see if it boots into recovery or bootloader.
check and see if your camera button is stuck or partially stuck since you were able to boot it up once at least
Do you have fastboot working? if so, you can grab your nandroid backups from your SD card and flash them.
or go to cyanogens thread, download the recovery and flash the recovery using the fastboot command to install. i believe its
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
but plz confirm before you do that
EDIT: david means use adb since you cant get into recovery
adb shell reboot recovery

he said he got the phone up and running i meant if he wanted to see if it was a software problem he could type reboot recovery into the terminal emulator and see if he got the bootloader screen or the recovery screen.
also i believe the fastboot commands you posted are correct.
ok thanks for the help guys. before reading your posts a left the phone for a few wins powered it on and now mt phone has booted up and it is working. i will try your solutions still though. i am not sure if i have fast boot working. when the bootloader screen flashed i do remeber it saying fastboot so does that mean i have it running?
edit: camera button seems to be fine although i havent tried the rebbot recovery yet though lol because i need my phone an im not sure if i can get it working again.

yeah, although im using the 1.5 sdk and not the latest 1.6 does that matter?
if you have adb you will need to have the fastboot.exe (which i think is in the tools folder of the sdk) so cd to the sdk tools folder then use
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(also have the recovery.img in the tools folder for this)
ok thanks my phone froze so i had to turn it off and now i am back to square 1 again is there anything besides the camera button that could be casuing this?

can anyone help me? the camera button seems to be fine and not stuck. is there another factor that could be causing this? i think i might try unrooting then going through all the steps to root it again. or flashing back to the hardspl and see what happens.
update: i managed to get the phone to boot up again so i went into terminal and typed reboot recovery and i got to the recovery screen ok, but when i pressed home + back to restart the phone the bootloader screen flashed again really quickly :/ it also seems like if i leave the phone off for a few hours it will power up fine but when it is turned off i have to wait another few hours til i can switch it back on.

this sounds like a hardware problem instead of a software problem since there is still a recovery screen, if your phone is still under warranty call your provider and see if there is anything they can do about it, and if they send you another one, just unroot the one you have
my phone isnt under warranty so looks like i will either have to put up with or buy myself a new one. thanks for the help.
If your sure your camera button isn't stuck, check your back button. If not, maybe some sweat or water got into it. some type of hardware dmg possibly. If your the do it yourself type of person, theres always this handy dandy notebook, I mean service manual

ahh yes that would make sense seeing as the bootloader screen says fastboot so it must be a problem with the back button. never thought of that. thanks for the help.
ok assuming that the back button is the problem, if i were to flash back to the hard spl would this problem go away seeing as fastobot mode only works with the 'special' spl?

Issues with cynagen's recovery image

Something very odd has happened. I reverted my phone back to stock via the .nbh file. Now when i reroot it and install cynagens recovery image it completes and when i try to boot the phone into recovery it freezes at the T-Mobile G1 screen and i have to pull out the battery to turn off the phone. anyone know the reason why my phone does this?
firstly, wrong section
secondly....can you boot normally? or in to fastboot (camera+power)?
if you can do any of these, then contrats....you bricked it
Edit: Oh ok my bad My eyes passed over the recovery and I thought he meant just rebooting.
try connecting your phone to your computer and do an adb logcat to see if its doing anything.
if you manage to get adb working while the phone is in the G1 screen then try fastbooting a new recovery image.
Moved as not Android Development.

I haven't been able to get ADB working with my phone. Yes i can boot normally and yes i can boot into fastboot. once I root the phone, I've tried to flash roms through the stock recovery, i cant seem to flash anything as i get an error. I have done this before multiple times on many of my friends phones. i followed the guide on wiki, stock g1 to cynagenmod, once I've flashed the cynagen recovery image my phone freezes at the T-Mobile G1 screen once I enter recovery.

Yea, do that. There's no reason that should be happening. Did you use the good ol' fashioned flashrec.apk? That's how I got my first recovery and started flashing (from stock.)

when i run into an error i downgrade with the .nbh file that i got off the cynagen wiki and try again.
where do you get the error?(or is the "error" it not doing what you want?)
in terminal emulator? did you reboot to recovery from terminal after? or with the end button? (type: reboot recovery[enter] in terminal)
are you giving it enough time to actually flash the recovery before you pull the bat? (sometimes it takes a lil bit)
try erasing the recovery image via fastboot.
then flash the Amon_RA recover image.

Well the thing is, I'm not getting an error. Here I'll explain step by step what i did. Maybe I did something wrong.
1) Placed the DREAMIMG.nbh file from wiki in the root of my sd card.
2)Pressed power and camera button to get the phone to bootloader. Followed the onscreen instructions to install the image.
3)Went through the sign in steps to get my phone to the home screen.
4)Followed the steps on wiki to root the phone pressed enter twice and typed "telnetd".
5)opened market and downloaded telnet.
6)pulled out my sdcard and put the cm-recovery-1.4.img on my sdcard.
7)opened telnet hit connect.
8)typed flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img and waited for the ## after that. like it says in the wiki.
9)placed the files from the wiki on the sdcard.
10)reboot the phone to recovery via power and home button. but this is where my phone freezes at the T-Mobile G1 screen.
11)pulled out the battery after waiting 10 min and just pressed the power button and the phone booted up fine. tried again via the telnet and typed "reboot recovery" same result.
12) i reformated my sdcard placed the DREAMIMG.nbh and tried steps 1-11 with same result.
i have even tried a different recovery Amon Ra's recovery as well with the same result. and worst of all ive been a few days with the 1.0 software without an ota update.
any suggestions?
This isnt the first time ive done this with a G1. ive even done this on my wifes MT3G and it worked flawlessly. Ive done it on 2 othe G1's but mine wont seem to take it. whats the deal?
I am noticing a something when under original recovery. Something that i havent seen until now. when i press alt + L it brings up the text and it says " Android system recovery utility E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
then it brings up usual commands like Alt + L, Alt+S, and Alt+W. but when i try to install even the official updates it says
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (5 files)...
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted.
Press Home+Back to reboot
could this mean anything or be the reason for the problems im running into?
it might just be that the ROM you were trying to flash wasnt signed correctly.

G1 screen bootloops, can get to bootloader, no recovery tho

A couple nights ago, I flashed DangerSPL, wiped, flashed CM-5.0.7-test7 and google apps. Everything was working fine, save for complaints noise during calls heard by the other party (everything seemed fine on my end).
That night I updated my radio from 2.22.19.26I to 2.22.23.02, rebooted, and everything was still fine. This morning, I decided I wanted to make a new backup and install JIT. Using the ROM Manager app, I switched from Amon_RA Recovery to Clockwork Recovery, then attempted a nandroid backup. After the ROM Manager rebooted the phone, it sat in a G1 splash screen for a few seconds, then rebooted over and over.
I am unable to get to recovery, but I was still able to get to the bootloader. I attempted connecting to my PC, but did not have the adb drivers installed. I was unable to get the driver working (every attempt resulted in an error about the process being in use by something else). At this point, I formatted a spare SD card, copied an RC29 DREAIMG.nbh on it, and loaded that via the bootloader. It still gets stuck in the bootloop, still cannot access recovery, can get into the bootloader (original rainbow one now), and now windows no longer recognizes when I connect via USB.
Any hope?
hi,
i have the same problem (or i have one more step to get the same problem).
on cm5 it seems that you cannot flash_image. i found that after i flashed recovery from terminal.
now i still have a rom on the phone ( that works ) but no boot loader, no recovery mode.
i have danger SPL on my dream 32b. adb won`t work ( never did - that`s another problem).
i wonder if i`ll try with rc29 ( or rc7 )dreaimg.nbh, if it will rewrite the recovery mode or it will try to use an already existent ( i my case absent ) recovery mode (or i will end up like iTekk) .
i`m now stucked with an cm5 rom with no adb, no recovery mode. no chance to run some update.zip from somwhere.
i still have root rights but ... that`s all.
any suggestions for us?
flash recovery thru fastboot. its a known issue when flashing thru rom manager
Cyan is working on a fix, but yea flash recovery thru fastboot
How do I do that with no USB communication? I've tried putting a CM Recovery 1.4 img file on the SD card, but when I enter bootloader, it momentarily flashes a gray load screen that says "no image found" and then goes back to the rainbow bootloader.
try renaming it to just recovery.img
I just tried using recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0-cyan.img and cm-recovery-1.4.img renamed to recovery.img and get the same thing. Power + camera, rainbow bootloader, gray screen "no image file!", back to rainbow bootloader.
i fixed my problem in the hard way:
with the DREAIMG.nbh file (you must have it on the root of a fresh fat32 formated sdcard).
from the "rainbow" screen ( camera + power ) flashed it and that will install android 1.0 ( rc29 for US or rc7 for UK ).
you better have a data plan if you`ll get there.-android 1.0 won`t skip the setup. and you can`t get to the telnetd step or install telnet from market.
that dreaimg.nbh fiel, once it is flashed, will install the stock recovery.
i just followed forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416
after that, flashed from phone terminal cm-recovery-1.4.img (after i have put it on the sdcard), played with the parted, installed cm5
or ... wait for the fix.
I think flashing the RC29 DREAIMG.nbh is what nailed the coffin actually. It was stuck in a G1 screen bootloop, but I could still access the DangerSPL bootloader (and nothing else), and windows recognized connecting the device (adb driver problems kept me from connecting and fastboot flashing a new recovery/ROM). Once I gave up with the adb driver, I flashed the RC29 img and was still stuck in a bootloop, the only difference was that now the only thing I could access was the stock bootloader (rainbow) and windows doesn't even recognize that anything is connected. All I've been able to flash from the stock bootloader is that RC29 img, which doesn't fix the problem. Anything else I've thrown on the sd card to try to flash (Recovery's, ROMs, or SPLs) just gives a no image file error.

[Q] Please help with Flashing Recovery on on Rooted VS980

I bought a VS980 last week and have been trying to flash a new recovery ever since. It is rooted, but when I try to reboot into recovery, the phone reboots and as soon as the LG splash shows up, the phone turns off. Not reboots, or freezes, or boot-loop, but just turns off. I have followed several different methods of flashing from different articles/guides i have found but all have the same effect. I have done a factory reset twice and tried to start fresh, but have the same result. I have done several options of using ADB Push to flash the recovery and I have tried to use, CWM, TWRP, Flashify, RomToolBox Pro, and GooManager apps to flash into recovery but I always have the same result. Phone reboots, LG Splash shows up for just a second, then the phone turns off.
I am about out of ideas. Please help!

Are you running JB or KK?
JB - Download flashify from the market and let it handle flashing the recovery
KK - Follow the directions here, steps 5-8 if you're already rooted and on 24A. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702958

Well I spoke too soon. I followed the guide in from the link, which did in fact allow me to reboot into TWRP, however, the phone seems to have been bricked in the process. I unless I use the hardware keys to reboot into recovery, the phone boots up completely blank. The screen is on, but it is black. I have tried to revert back to stock but I have not been able to. I followed all the directions found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476&highlight=download+fail
Still no luck.

Please can you describe anything that's going wrong? I.e. Can you access downloader mode?, Is your port set to COM41 (Note it does not set it automatically)?, Anything else that would give us an idea where the reverting back to stock process is going wrong?

Sure. I do not know if I am able to reach Fastboot or not. I can get into TWRP Recovery and request Fastboot, as well as hold the Up-Volume buttons on start, but the screen comes on blank after the LG icon goes away.
I can not see the device from my File Explorer in Windows. I have tried to remove each of the 3 devices that appear in my Device Manager and re-install them with the most recent drivers for my phone, which seems to work, but then I still cannot connect to it. The computer recognizes that a device has connected, but I guess I do not know how to transfer files if not through File Explorer or an ADB push.
I have tried to use ADB push but I cannot see any ADB Devices. Within TWRP, I have tried to use ADB Sideload, but the message '//twrp/backups/086c8bd70b935975' not found comes up and so it gets stuck on "starting ADB Sideload feature...."
When I use the "Mount" option in TWRP, Only Data and Cache is selected. I can select System, but I am not able to select USB-OTG
When trying to use the LG Flash Tool (and tried to change every port to 41 for each device I found in Device Manager), it fails with "Model: Unknown"..."device Model is different!"..."Check Phone or DLL!"...."00000000"
I think there were some other things tried too but that is all I can think of at the moment.

Well new update: I was able to fix it! The problem was my own ignorance. I was following some Googl'd instructions to get the device into download mode that were incorrect. Once I saw the correct ones, I was able to get into Download Mode and revert to stock from there.
