I'm a recent buyer of a rhodium and a old diamond. I tried some roms in the diamond in the past year but i would always comeback to the stock rom (because of stability, language (Portuguese) or because of lack of software).
So my question is when to upgrade. Does the upgrade bring some evolution or better use to the devices, or we waste time in this attemp to have the latest novelty and we miss the big picture that is that the devices do not get much better than they already are. sorry for the bad english. I' m portuguese
The custom roms do not only provide the newest software...
In most roms there are a lot of improvements compared to the stock rom.
A few examples are: better video playback, smoother manilla, better use of ram and processor and a lot of other stuff.
That's why I am using custom roms.
So I don't feel that it is waste of my time since it takes like 20 minutes to download and flash a rom.

Hey...
i flashed my x1 with nearly every custom rom released here in forum... now im back at stock spl and stock vodafone ger rom... and its crazy.. to my mind its faster than ever before with a custom rom
strange for german rom i know that my rom is definitly faster , but if you are happy with the stock rom then it is ok
each to their own...
You're absolutely right but he broiught to my mind these ole tytn days when a stremlined cooked ROM realy realy SIGNIFICATIVELY improved the phone and I was wondering why I wasn't feeling the same on my X1
Even small changes freeing a couple of extra MB of RAM (eg. deleting some MS crap) was a big bang on a 64MB device
Then I remembered I have 300MB RAM
Real speed gain would be nice...

I agree !
Tried many X1 and Raphael Roms on my 2 devices and the gain of speed is only minor compared to the flying fast TyTN Custom Roms back then.
The only real gain is having removed all the junk and so more free "rom" is avail...
Many people here are like ... THIS or THAT Rom is blazing fast and stuff but if have a real look you will find out that maybe some windows appear a bit faster but the rest is equal...
Benchmark are corroberating my theory ! (I did alot of them ! )
Not only SPB Benchmark, VS Benchmark and Sk Tools are proofing it but also Morphgear FPS Benchmarking for example.

Also, this phone feels WAY FASTER in stock condition than the diamond and tytn, I know it is not perfect, but man it flies when I put it side by side with the diamond
Best HTC device ever IMHO
i agree that its the best htc phone built so far. but in terms of cooked rom speeds i think its trailing the trailing the best HD and the touch pro ROMs. i think we have a bigger rom for improvement
Formula 1....
Try this one ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478022 . That is definitely fastest rom that i tried. Go ahed take a try...
I remember that in some old Dutty WM6.1 firmware battery lived about 2-2.5 days.
In the latest WM6.5 (R10, R11) firmware the battery does not hold even 12 hours.
For example, on the old firmware by night, I lost about 2%, and about 15% on the new one.
Which WM6.5 firmware is the most energy saving? (not necessarily the Duttys one)
Sorry for my English.
I thing you've got some problems, because I am using R10 Rom and haven't noticed any problems with battery saving.
may be, but nevertheless, if you compare different ROM, you can always choose more energy efficient, so interested in the experience of flashing maniacs
Well, I am certainly not a flashing whore (I only change ROMS once a month or so), but I definitely noticed a huge difference in battery life between Miri's and Energy. That is, on my HD Miri had a much better battery life, whereas Energy drains it a lot faster. A friend of mine mentioned this might be a Radio issue, but I didn't have time to flash during the last few weeks.
i think onkylog (spelling) roms are most energy saving as they are lightweight. check them out....
in b4 fallen spartan locks this thread for rom comparing and tells you to test for yourself.....
Thanks guys, I will try Miri and Onkolog ROMs.
just choose a lightweight rom (topix, dutty etc) and close 3g/HDXXX. and stay away from energy rom lol
6.5 roms use beta builds which naturally use more power perhaps due in part to debugging code. Use 6.1 (eg topix, leo's, dutty 4.1)
indeed had some experience with the energy roms, the latest I used drained my battery in 12 hours, and I'm quite sure it's not a radio issue, I'm currently using Miri's 6.1 based rom.
P.S.
don't get me wrong, its not a spoiler I love the energy roms, and really appreciate the work done, and I might presume that 6.5 is still somehow wrong...
lightweight roms are not always power saving..onkolog's full have so much better life than his s.lites

Well guessed
IMHO best way to tell which roms are best for battery life are to read up on them and most importantly try them.
But just for info, the general rule is that due to enhancements of roms including graphics etc on latest builds, stock roms are best on battery, followed by wm6.1 and then wm6.5. This is a general rule and some roms are an exception. Basically as rom development improves the battery consumption increases....but the actual battery remains the same.

Starting from WM6.5 and Manila 2.5, the ROM is now very slow in comparing with the stock rom. The lag time is now about 0.5 seconds for every button pressed. the Manila animation is not smooth especially at the sunny day. Neo Driver doesn't really help (may be 2-3% which is not a big deal).
Could the chef please share some lite rom with old manila or even without it?
Is it is problem with wm6.5 or only the manila?
I would have to agree. I of course appreciate the work the cooks are doing but personally I would prefer something that is lighter for a ROM.
I'm running Onkolog's ROM at the moment, without any issues. It's actually his full ROM but it's still very fast and good in terms of battery, etc. Having said this I wouldn't mind to see greater selection in lite roms!
Just try different ROM's. Some are Faster than others. But just FYI the new Manila and all the gadgets are really being prepped for the HD2 and newer devices with Snap Dragon 1Ghz Processor. We can run them on our devices and tweak them to run pretty good but they will not be as fast as on the newer devices.
WM 6.5 21xxx series is very stable without manila.
Think this thread has served its purpose. As bobsbbq stated baove, reason for latest roms being slower is due to the fact they were designed for newer device with Snap Dragon 1Ghz Processor and not for the HD. Inevitably the HD would be slower as processor not as good.
However, some roms are faster than pothers, so I'd recommend trying a few

The phone is rubbish with stock Samsung OS and software! Slow often glitchy, long waits for simple stuff like switching between apps or even going back to the home screen.
BUT - with a custom ROM this phone is potentially AWESOME. Lag is gone, battery life much better. I make my girlfriend jealous and she has an iPhone 5S, lol.
Slightly bigger screen than iPhone, much lighter, more sturdy, expandable memory, FM tuner, and with a custom ROM loads more features and better interface.
Some ROMs are not available for this phone but a lot are: Many available from maclaw.pl, I've tried CM11 but found Carbon (latest unofficial KitKat) has a few more options and some nice optimisations to maximise battery life without sacrificing performance at all.

Hey, thank you, i think i will stay with it, and what can you tell me about games?, is good enough?, thanks bye
With stock, framerates go slow sometimes - since going custom no probs at all. Play a lot of Real Steel World Robot Boxing, a 3D effects-heavy game, runs without a hitch. Screen quality good, graphics good.
I just got one yesterday as a replacement for my work phone. I was using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7. thdevicee mini is a about the same size, but I have the benefits of android, root, larger screen, and the Google kit Kat keyboard. compared to the outdated iPhone 4 it's a decent upgrade.
my personal line is a galaxy s4. the s3 mini doesn't compare, but given that the s4 is my primary device and the s3 mini is for work calls and email only it's pretty dang good.
its a good phone but we have only a few developers for custom roms
---------- Post added at 12:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 AM ----------
also we still dont have miui rom for example, wich almost every other phone already have one stable :/
custom ROM support, or lack thereof, doesn't make a phone good or bad...
if flashing ROMs is a priority, get a nexus as AOSP based ROMs on pretty much anything else sucks. any device with a Google Play Edition version and an unlocked boot loader will be a very close second.
I think the S3 Mini is a very nice phone but there are many other phones which has better performance and battery but they are not so cheap like the S3 Mini The Moto G is okay but the Gaming Performance is bad.. sry for my bad english
It's typical mid-range, with a decent custom ROM every day tasks are quick and the phone is very responsive. It'll gobble up casual games easily and some old intensive games but unsurprisingly you're not going to playing brand new high end games!
Hi,
I have a 2.5 year old mi a2 and plan to keep it for 6-12 months more. I never installed am custom rom(android one feels pretty decent), But with the battery life and performance deteriorating I am wondering if it is worth it to install a custom rom to improve these areas.
Are android 10 roms as stable and compatible as stock android? If so which ones?
I really appreciate your help!
bump?

Of course they are better than stock. These days you can find custom roms like Awaken that are even encrypted and on the latest Android 11.
Used and tried Awaken, Fluid, Shapeshift, Derp Fest, all good. Depends only which one you like more.
