Red Light in Power Button!!!Overheating prevention???? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I was using my Xperia for half an hour without charging and when it showed up low battery message (around 6% charge) I connected it to the wall charger and continued using it(I was on a SKYPE call via WIFI), Then I continued using it for around 4 hours and suddenly the phone went off without any warning message or warning tone...There was a RED light in power button and my xperia was damn hot...I first thought my XPERIA is dead...I took out the battery and kept it to cool out...After sometime I put it back to my xperia and connected it to the wall charger...The RED light was still there...So I just kept the phone connected to the wall charger and started looking for a solution in here...I found a lot of threads stating that it can happen due to battery drain up...But after around 15 to 30 minutes of charging my Xperia powered up again and I noticed the battery status and it showed me 66% percent...I want to clarify the following...
1) Is this really a battery issue(due to battery drain up)??? I was using my Xperia when connected to the wall charger and I believe there was some charge left in the battery...
2) Is the battery status not displaying correctly???
3) Is there any overheating prevention mechanism in Xperia that turns off the phone after a threshold temperature(like that in Computer's)???
I hope someone can provide an answer soon...

Please read the full thread before giving suggestion. I have searched the forums before posting this thread but I could only find issues regarding battery draining, I want to clarify whether it has anything to do with overheating.

Xperia X1 dead?

I am currently having problems with my X1 powering on.
I understand there has been a post on the forums regarding this subject I have read through it the symptoms of my phone are similar but I wanted to make sure.
The problem I have is 2 days ago my phone was low on batt so I plugged it into the charger [MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB]. Left it there and the next day I noticed the battery is completely drained. Try to power it on and red lights go on at the power button.
I've looked up on how to fix the problems followed the procedures and still no luck. Now the thing that is slightly different with my phone is sometimes the red lights are on at the power switch... but sometimes the red lights blink on the phones side LED's I understand the side LED's also blink to show low battery / errors.... so thats the part which is making me worry.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the problem or maybe possible solutions?
Thank you all for spending the time to read this.
did you leave the batt really low? and what methods have you tried so far?
because what happened is that you probably unbalanced your battery (if I'm understanding correctly). I've had a similar problem as well with my previous x1.
just wondering though, you didn't do any mods to your ROM did you? if you didn't. you may be able to send the phone back to sony ericsson (if it's under warrenty) to replace it to get a new one.
just as a suggestion if you end up getting a new x1 or just a new battery that works. don't leave it until it's almost out to charge it. charge it maybe once a day or every other day (ensuring that your battery wont' die on you again).

Clean conductors
Charge battery in wall mount .... pull out the battery place it back in charge again and hope it works [apparently some ppl pulled it off] tried for 2 days.
Soft reset switch

Yup it was one of the TouchFlo ROMs
I've ordered another battery but until then I'm still open to opinions on solutions.
Also does it mean anything if it randomly switchs from a red light on the power button to the LED on the sides flashing red.

Another thing you can try is one of the cheap $2 USB Pocket Universal Li-Ion Chargers - they aren't as sensitive as the X1 itself is, and since you can take the battery out of the X1 for charging it's a safer way to charge a problem battery like this one seems to be at the moment. If you have a spare battery anyway, then you'd want an external charger anyway to charge it without having to take off the case and change batteries every time. Also since it's USB it is low voltage and low amperage.
I had the same problem with the Red light below the button being on - and leaving the battery in one of these chargers for about 10 minutes had it charged enough that it worked with no problems again when I put it back in my X1 and I've been using the same battery ever since without a problem (for about a month now).
Hope that helps,
Peter
P.S. The "MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB charger" you were using might not have a high enough amperage for the X1 to charge well and that might be part of the problem. The X1's original USB charger is 700 mA, which is beyond the spec of the average USB wall plug (some of which are as low as 150-300 mA). Not getting enough amps at the proper voltage can cause the sorts of problems you are reporting. Using the actual X1 charger might help as well - though I still recommend the cheap $2 Universal USB Li-Ion chargers for emergencies.

Replacement battery issues

Hi,
Just purchase 2 HTC HD2 replacement batteries from ebay (Non original)
and facing a problem in charging both of them.
When I power up the phone it shows 80%, but when charger is connected,
it does not show the charging icon and the notification LED keeps blinking between amber and green.
Any one got any idea? Both the batteries defective?
I use a meter to measure the batteries, one got 4v the other 4.02v.
Seems ok but just cannot charge inside the phone.
Help and advise needed. Thank you.
Got the same issue here. They will charge up to 68% then stop.
Have to turn off phone and plug in again to charge the final bit - OR - take them out and put in caddy charger.
Battery replacement charging problem
I also have the same problem but this issue happen only if you use the device while charging the battery. If the issue occur try turn off the screen (not power off) and wait around 3-5 mintues then it continue charging the battery without any problem. The problem is occur only if we use the power too much such as Telephone call, Wifi, GPS then it back to blink green and amber again and again. Howerver I found out that sometime after soft reset the battery report it have been charge during green and amber blinking (in my case I upload youtube of 120MB and take quite a long time around 2-3 hours the battery indicate 6% and not increased until I softreset them then become 72%)
Howerver, this is almost not acceptable since it should be charged normally in any condition.

Do you guys think this is due to "low quality" batteries that could not be charge properly in the phone. Can only be charged using cradle....??????
same issue here, except mine will go amber/green regardless of power % left.
I have seen mine doing amber/geen even when it'[email protected] 10% with screen off.
That would all seem to point at the phone drawing more power than can be put in the battery at the same time.
I reported it to the ebay seller in anycase, who says he will contact the factory.
cheap ebay batteries causing problems?
My cheap battery does the same if I use cheap craddle that came with it. However if I use original charger and stock cable it is all fine.
Oh yes and original battery used in cradle does the same orange/green.
However in any case living it for 3-4 minutes starts charging process.
When it's charged up fully it's def a massive improvement on the original though. I can get almost 50 hours out of it now, the original one I had only got 24 at a push

tytn 2 not charging

hi!
i was just wondering, my tytn 2 is not charging, when i look at the battery meter, it says charging, but instead of going up. it goes down, the amber light
the signals charging is gone.
im sure its not the battery. coz i did get a charger, the one where u put probes on the + and - terminal of the battery, it charged. the battery is working now. however, i couldnt charge via the phone.
the red light came up before which indicates not charging so what do i do now?
someone suggested to hard reset it. i tried it but nothing. still the same. i reflashed it... nothing... now using the hyperdragon rom... still the same...
any ideas?
btw, when i plug in the charger, amber light is there... however, not for long, light turns off, but the charging / plugged into the charger symbol is there
as far as my personal experience goes, i have noticed this behavior only when the battery overheats while charging. in the hottest weather, this has NEVER happened for me. it only happens sometimes if my device screen is on WITH wifi WITH bluetooth WITH data connection WITH some heavy processing program running. this causes heating of the components and also leaves little power to charge the battery, because most of the charger's power is being redirected to power the components in use.
so, the device will charge for a few minutes and will interrupt the charging if the temperature rises. the charging will resume again when the temperature comes back down.
you can test if this is happening with your device by observing how long it charges before stopping, first without a fan and then with a fan blowing over the battery with the back cover removed.
if the charging lasts longer when the device is being cooled with a fan, then you are likely facing temperature issues.

Strange battery loading behaviour?

Hey Guys,
in the last few days I noticed following strange battery issues:
When I go to bed in the evening I plug my phone to the charger,
in the Morning I have a green LED and battery is at 100%.
A few minutes later the Battery has a massive Drop from 100%
(From 100% to 58% or 100% to 38% or 100% to 61%)
After I noticed this, I installed Current Widget to log the battery
consumption.
Here is what the Log says:
2011/06/22 02:16:15,64mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:18:20,56mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:19:39,54mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:22:00,50mA,100%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:23:00,48mA,100%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:26:04,-104mA,100%,4.175V
2011/06/22 02:28:12,-104mA,100%,4.175V
.
.
.
.
2011/06/22 08:24:33,-48mA,100%,3.874V
2011/06/22 08:25:34,-78mA,100%,3.874V
2011/06/22 08:26:34,-46mA,61%,3.869V
2011/06/22 08:27:34,-154mA,61%,3.869V
Two whole Logs can be seen here: http://pastebin.com/yfzBcJk3
So my question is:
Why is the battery depleting between 02:26:12 an 08:24:33
while still plugged in?
Is this a Bug?
How can i fix it?
At the moment im running my IncS on Android Revolution HD 1.0.2 ROM
(I have noticed this also with 1.0.1 and Unitiy Kernel...)
It's not a good idea to leave the phone pluged to the charger. When its fully charged i always take the charger out.
There is several threads about that, e.g. this one.
same here m8
but i found, that cause is Current Widget. Uninstall it and everything gonna be ok. if not - install Power Tutor and find the way your power disappearing.
i have around 1% battery drop every 2 hours and 30-40% with Current Widget installed. (on stock and Android Revolution HD ROMs)

Erm ... when I am asleep I wont plug out my Phone, because, well I am sleeping
Well if you read through this section, you will see a couple of threads with this discussed.
The issue you are facing is common.
Once the phone is completely charged to 100%, the phone automatically stops drawing power from the charger.
So lets say you start charging your phone at 2:15, it may charge up fully by 3:15.
Though it is still connected to the charger, the phone stops charging once it reaches 100%.
Then the phone starts drawing power for its normal usage, standby, display, any apps running in the background etc.
So by the time you wake up at 8:15 (or wenever) the phone wen connected will still show 100%, but after unplugging in a couple of minutes, it will drop down to the actual battery percentage.
nothing wrong with the phone.
i noticed the same with my earlier x10 after the 2.1 update as well.

Nice explanation! Always wondered what was going on here. So key is not to charge it over night?

well, key is to charge it as long as required.
Once it reaches 100%, any additional charging is a waste of electricity

Good point! Do you know if the phone's alarm still works when the phone is off? This was the case for my old i8910 hd and was quite handy for saving battery at night
UPDATE: No it doesn't!

[Q] Fully charged? or not...?

I have just been charging my Note. Up at 100%, no worries.
For unrelated reasons, I decided to reboot. As it was still on charge, it does not in fact reboot, it goes to the charging screen while remaining off.
Imagine my utter surprise that the charge icon was showing about 2/3 charged! There is no doubt at all that every indicator before the shut-down was at 100%.
Can anyone else see if this happens to their Note, or suggest an explanation?

Use battery calibiration app from market. It resets the battery stats. Do it after a full charge and you should be gud after that.
disconnect the usb cord to see if the phone still demonstrate the charging animation. if that is the case then you have problems. seems like many Gnotes are developing usb charging port problems after a month + use.
