Hi,
since yesterday my phone is rooted and the newest RA Recovery+CyanogenMod is installed.
Now i want to partition my SD Card expedient to use APPS2SD...
But i don't understand what the meaning of Ext2 Ext3 etc....
And how should i expedient partition them???
When I partition my SD Card use CyanogenMod APPS2SD automatically or do i have to activate it anywhere???
Thanks for help

Okay junior... most of your answers can be found by reading first.
But to answer your questions if you want to add an ext partition you would do so from the Amon_Ra recovery and by doing so you will lose some storage capacity but you will enable the a2sd capability. Ext 3 is better than 2, Ext 4 is theoretically better than 3. If you want to use a rom that requires the "Danger SPL" or otherwise known as "Haykuro's SPL" or "Death SPL", I would use caution because if you don't follow d-i-r-e-c-t-i-o-n-s p-e-r t-h-e l-e-t-t-e-r then you will end up with a B-R-I-C-K and then you will be S.O.L.
OK, so i should update to EXT4, or???
Do i need the Danger SPL for mlign or eclair rom???
New big problem, i wanted to flash Cyanogen Rom back...
Flashing work, but on the T-Mobile G1 screen the phone stuck...
But I can restart go to my Hard SPL and Recovery...
Wheres the problem???
I also tried with this guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs

I'll break it down for you.
You need the danger spl to use the mlign hero roms and eclair roms.
Ext3 or ext4... doesn't matter. Stay at ext3 because it's one less step for you and it's more compatible with other roms than ext4.
Danger spl - reading = brick
Danger spl + reading = ~10mb of free space in /system useful for flashing hero/eclair roms.
Nandroid Backup before a flash = good
-Backup before a flash = future wipe
And to get back to cyanogen's rom try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4665165&postcount=3 (except don't use the 4.1.99, use the latest)
If that doesn't work then wipe the ext partition and wipe your system from the recovery menu. Flash the recovery.zip and then flash the CMUpdate.zip (4.2.10.1 in this case.)
A ext clear have helped... CyanogenM is running.
Ahhh ok, can i check my partitions of my sd card through recovery console adb or something else???
So, the failure is caused by the missing "danger" spl, which give me extra 10mb to internal phone space?
So what i have to mind to flash them??? Only flash manual radio first???
Recommends most of the custom roms the danger spl???
But after having the danger spl flashed it isn't danger for the phone anymore or??
The question if it is worth it, because i want to test how stable and fast other roms like mlign or eclair are.... Moreover, i want a cool hero design, but he-aero is very old.. I can try Community Hero Mix...
But if other roms like mlign or eclair aren't faster or more stable than cm i let it, because cm has the most advantages...

dude... everything you want is in my signature.
any rom should run on the danger spl but once you get the Danger SPL installed do NOT flash another radio because it will likely brick your phone.
most hero and eclair roms won't run as smooth as say Cyanogen's. This is because it is also requiring constant access to the sdcard's ext2,3 or 4 partition AND a swap partition. the higher speed of card that you have (class 2 is usually unmarked, others will be marked with a 4 or a 6 in the corner) the better results you will have in your rom.
In regards to the community hero mix... I am a co-contributor to the theme. It is maintained mostly by Nabzilla1990 but he usually takes a couple of days to release his updates. I release mine within a couple of hours (normally).
My advice is if you want the look and feel of Hero with a fast and stable rom and without the risk of bricking... go for a Hero theme instead. But nothing can pair up with a Hero rom when it comes to the SenseUI. Just beware of the facts that there is no bluetooth for it yet and it gets sluggish after a few hours and will need a reboot.
Ok thanks, so I stay Cyanogen with Theme, which i can easiliy update through CM Updater.
But the Danger SPL don't make the phone faster or more stable, or???
Which haven't bluetooth and need restart after while?? The Hero Sense UI Rom?
ScorqYoN
PS: Your CHM Theme run first time and good, whereas after Nabzillas Regular CHM Theme I had to reflash with Cyanogen Rom...
Has CM Updater a option to apply Default Theme??? Or do I even have to reflash???

the spl doesn't make a difference in your phones stability or speed.
hero's bluetooth does not, has not, and will not work. hero senseui IS hero's gui.

The CM Updater has no option for Default Theme except reflashing???
What are you even asking?
Cyan uses no themes
Sure with CM Update you can install/apply themes...

Or isn't there any possibility???

Cyanogen doesn't use a theme. So to back to default (grey bar and launcher etc) you would need to reflash. If you want to try another theme then you would have to download the theme to the root of your sdcard and flash that one. But beware! If you flash Cyanogens rom (to be rid of the theme that you don't want or can't use) you may have remnants of the previous theme on top of the one that you just flashed. There is also no promise that your phone will even start up. Best bet is to:
ALWAYS perform a nandroid backup before flashing ANYTHING. No exceptions! This way if something doesn't work, you can just flash back like nothing ever happened.
Flash Cyanogens latest rom again and try a different theme.
Hope that helps.
Hey i have partitioned my sd card using various methods.
But i cant find where's the ext partition.
In my phone and pc sd card is showing lesser storage space but not showing the space that is been used for ext and swap.
Please help.

if im on JACHero 2.63 can i just put the Cyanogen Rom rename it to update.zip, and then Alt+w to wipe and Alt+s to flash the cyanogen rom on? or will this not work? if this is not the way to do it, what steps should i take to do get from JACHero 2.63 to Cyanogen 3.6.1?
Also whats your recomendation on the best cupcake rom, i dont really like the JF 1.51 cause i cant play music and recieve texts and calls at the same time.
Fix filesystems (alt+f) on cm's recovery 1.31., wipe and flash .I recommend cyanogen's 3.6.5 .Latest version of his cupcake mod xD

Yup, that's exactly how you would do it, ideally.
However, I've read many-a-time where people coming from Hero ROM's have issues going to a Cupcake ROM. This is because the Apps2SD in Hero saves weird files to the SD card and creates havock when you install a cupcake build. I would recommend completely formatting your SD card (specifically your EXT2/3/4 or swap partition) before getting on Cyan's.
Also, it is indeed best that you go with the most recent build, 3.6.5 . It's definitely the best ROM out there right now, and I'm very pleased with it except for some minor theme-ing problems right now.
Yes I've searched.
Yes I've posted in appropriate threads.
No I haven't recieved any answers.
Yes I'm getting frustrated and decided to post the question.
With that out of the way.
This may sound like a silly question but please forgive me as I have not yet flashed the haykuro spl.
Once you've flashed the new spl, instead of flashing the update.zip of the non-Hero rom, can't you use nandroid restore to restore your previous backups instead of having to start over with an update.zip file? Or will that restore the previous spl as well (in my case HARD SPL)? Or perhaps once you've installed your non-Hero update.zip file can you use nandroid restore to go back to your exact settings while keeping the new spl?
I ask because I would like to try the spl, but I'm so comfortable with my rom and settings that I would hate to wipe just to try Hero which is still in development. Call me crazy, but I like stable and finished builds. But I am curious and with a lot of time on my hands but not so much that I'm willing to lose everything just to try something that I'm not going to keep.
I hear from so many people to flash this spl because "It's worth it" but what is so special about it unless you plan on running Hero? Is it worth the risk of bricking your phone? I've been on the fence trying to decide whether to risk it or not and I've been very curious to try Hero but not at the cost of losing everything that I currently have and possibly bricking my phone just for the sake of curiousity.
Thanks.

Nothing.
Use it if you want to run Hero rom.
If you do not want to run the hero based rom's, just stick with hardspl.

Right... but I'm curious enough to try the Hero rom's. But if they are not stable (such as lack of bluetooth etc) then I would like to restore my current backups. Would such be possible and still keep the new spl?

If you make a nandroid before flashing the new SPL then I believe you will get the Hard SPL back but the new SPL is worth it because you get more Internal Memory, I think it's like 89 MB and you get to test out any Hero ROM you want, if you do decide to flash new SPL then use the 3rd post from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593 as a tutorial, it worked perfect for me.

If you don't like Hero after you flash new SPL and everything (by the way Bluetooth does not work in any Hero ROM yet) just use your nandroid to go back to the way you were and flash new SPL from there, you don't have to flash Hero at the same time your flashing new SPL it can be the current ROM you're on.

No, I'm not sure either.
Thats why I just said...I doubt it.
So worse case scenario, other the the possibility of bricking, is I do the backup, install the new spl, attempt to restore and if it doesn't restore the hard spl and if I do keep the haykuro spl (which provides about 10mb of extra internal storage) it might not work because of the storage difference that has been allocated for the hardspl. Theory 1.
I backup my current rom, Cyanogen 3.9. I install haykuro's spl, I install the Cyanogen 3.9 update.zip file. I nandroid restore my previous backup (pre-hero spl) and enjoy the extra memory and the possibility of experimenting a Hero rom with the new spl tonight at work. Theory 2.
Which sounds more likely?

With the recovery 1.4 out I won't need another sdcard and won't even need to rename the zip files. Makes it easier.

I flashed the new spl and I'm re-installing CM 3.9 now. I'll edit with updates.
Edit 1
First instead of installing the update.zip I decided to just try a restore from recovery. It wouldn't let me. I'll try to do a restore after the rom is flashed.
Edit 2
Installed CM 3.9 update (did NOT wipe) and it installed fine.

I just noticed that I did have 2 splash screens (not the animated ANDROID). After installing the new spl I now only have the first one. Doesn't matter that much. Just worth mentioning. Edit 3b tried to add the second boot screen by "fastboot flash splash2 mysplash.rgb565" and got "writing 'splash2'... FAILED (remote: partition does not exist!) I perfered the splash2 boot screen so I just replaced splash1 with splash2. No big. I'll be trying Hero later! For now... gotta finish getting ready for work. Thanks!
I have a question about installing this new spl. I'm currently running Cyan 3.6.8.1 and I want to try out a Hero ROM. I'm going to completely nuke my phone by repartitioning my card and flashing back to RC29. My question is while in RC29 after I do the telnet commands and update my recovery can I update my radio, Haykuro's SPL, and start up back to RC29 so I can drag n drop the rom file onto my sd or will I need to keep the ROM file I want in my sd card to install through recovery?
Also to make sure I don't brick my phone (yes I have a PVT board) I'm going to list the steps I'm going to take
-While still using Cyan 3.6.8.1 boot into recovery, wipe, and repartition my SD card
-Place RC29 and original SPL onto SD card at startup then reboot into recovery, wipe, load original SPL, reboot, and install RC29
-Follow telnet commands using this guide off this forum then place new radio, haykuro's spl, and cyan's 1.4 recovery on SD card
-After updating recovery update radio then SPL
-Wait for startup (if I didn't brick my phone) to place new rom file onto sd card then reboot in recovery to install new rom

hello all
is there a common problem where it just cycles the "hero boot screen " infinitly
going to recovery mode and flashing a normal rom works fine
Possibly you didn't follow the required steps to get hero roms onto your phone, eg. partitioning, etc...
If you don't know what you need to do, stick with the normal roms... It wouldn't hurt you.

^ Listent to the wise man.
I can bet you my weekly salary that if you have the right card, wiped and repartitioned you will not have boot loops. Read-up on the requirements... this is 100% sd card issue
i partitioned the card correctly about a month ago i even had an early jachero rom that was quite unstable at the time so i switched to a normal cooked rom. and now i want to try the new builds so i simply flashed the 1.4 recovery rom and a new hero rom.
i will wipe the 1GB sd card and reparation it and see how it goes

If you never wiped the ext2/3 partition that is probably why. You have to wipe it whenever you switch hero roms. Maybe the linux-swap too but I am not sure on that one.
Wipe your ext2/3 partition. You should search more
Ok so lets start out by saying i know i am not bricked because i am able to get into fastboot as well as recovery. So this all started when i tried to move to CyanogenMod v4.2.13 . At 1st i was on Cyanongen 4.2.10 which i was having some problems on so i wanted to move to a new rom. I then went to flash xROM Eclair-v1.0 which went ok but then i started to get FCs and wanted to go back to Cyanogen roms. I then flashed the 4.2.13 rom and i am where i am not. Every time i have tried to re flash the the rom i have done a full wipe of both the phone and the EXT, but i get stuck on the G1 screen every time no matter what. I have let it seat there for 30 mins with no luck at all. Not sure what to try now. Any ideas would be great.
Here is what i am running right now.
Fastboot reads
Dream PVT 32B ENG S-Off
Hboot-1.33.2005
Radio-2.22.19.26I
I am running the RA recovery RA-Dream-v1.5.1
Any help would be great thanks.
Have you tried to downgrade with dream.nhg and reroot ? I'm sure therebis better method then this too I'm jus throwing idea out there would wait for this and some one with more experince to help out.
Also did you flash the 1.6 ota before cyan rom, just trying make it clear for future questions.. Also try a different rom suggest trying superd 1.2 it's super fast and very stable
No don't downgrade using dream.nbh it will downgrade the radio and kill your phone!
You already have the DangerSPL installed, so you can't downgrade the radio anymore.
Just try to flash a ROM which was made for the DangerSPL (also called DeathSPL, HaykuroSPL etc.)
Same problem-FREAKING OUT
Hi,
I think I have the same problem and I think my phone is bricked. A long time ago I changed the two splash screen pictures and not I can't event get past the first 1. I'm stuck at the first splash screen.
I just learned that everytime you want to flash cyan, you have to flash the radio 1.6, wipe then falsh the cyan rom. I think I did some mis steps and effed it up. PLEASE HELP.
I think I have the Danger SPL that sats Dream PVT 32B ENG S-Off, HBOOT 1.33.2005 (DREA10000), CPLD_4, Radio 2.22.19.26I, Apr 20 2009,15:30:43. I have JF 1.42 recovery and been trying to update to Cm recovery1.4 but have had no luck because of these problems.
How do you flash a rom from the SPL screen with the three android on skateboards. I just need to figure this out please.

To access recovery, hold Home + Power.
If you have a ROM on your SD card (the root), flash it (ALT + S i think it is.) If your ROM requires a wipe, ALT + W wipes.
Make sure you have the right Radio + SPL for whatever ROM you run.
JGo to the develop forums and look for super d 1.6 rom.. and flash it like any other rom.. wipe factory reset then flash any zip it requires danger spl so should for those that have it.. like said its really good and pretty well stable and blazing fast

If you have a extra sd card that's not partation use that to flash your rom(make sure it'd formated to fat32) then when you get into a rom put your partation sd back in then go to settings and format sd card there then go into recovery Amon ra and repartation sd.. Jus a suggestion too you can reformat within recovery too I jus don't kno the commands
Well what i have been trying is to get 4.2.8 back since that has been the best rom i think Cyanogen has had out, but that doesn't even work when it has always been my backup rom. Well I am about to try Super D 1.6 will report back after it.
Edit: Well SuperD 1.6 flashed good and is running but why is it that no mater how many times i try i can't get CyanogenMod to flash ok when i was able to do it before.
Ooo I liked cyan roms but notice some lags after awhile use superd is great and well worth trying it
I figured it OUT! I think my sd card was courrupted or something because it wouldn't boot with the card in but when I took it out and booted using the Danger SPL like I described a few posts back, it worked and got past the first boot screen.
Then I flash cm_recovery_1.4.img but leaving it on the sd and reinserting the sd card when the phone booted. (Oh and I flashed cm 4.2.9.1 because I heard its the most stable)
Next I reformated my sdcard and then partitioned it using the following instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714&highlight=partition+sd
Hope this helps anyone who has same problem. THANK YOU ILOST! Is yours working now too?
Forget the thread all is well again with Cyanogen Roms working. Turns out my SD card needed to be repartitioned but since i was at school all day. I wasn't able to get on a PC and download the ROM. Wonder why the card needed to be repartitioned, but whatever it works now thanks for taking the time to read the thread.
just flash the base rom then flash cyanogen!!!! or flash dwang!!!!!
Nice to hear PROD, I think you had the same problem that I had.
OKAY, now since I've been reflashing like crazy and lost ALL my old apps and imformation since I was using JF 1.5 before.
However, I backed up on nandroid before all this craze, does anyone know how to replace certain files like password safe or shipping list apps and daat on a new nandroid backup so then essentially all my old information can be on this new platform???
Well glad to see both you got working again! Congrats! Hope all will stat well I had this same problem continously. And I believe it's due to cheap / low class sdcards.. Usually when I flash from a different rom and I need to wipe, usually backup what's on sd and apps using titanium backup then format sdcard within phone the flash new rom after I repart it
Congrats to you ilost, you got this thread going well.
I used my backup but when I use that or nandroid then it replaces my recovery back to the old JF recovery and then I'm back at square one so I'm looking for a way to replace or insert certain old nandroid files into a new nandroid file.
I'm thinking of updating my G1 running CM5.0.8 to CM6.0/6.1. I'm kind of hesitant for two main reasons:
1. I'm not running Danger SPL (I'm using a modified CM5 ROM)
2. I use apps2ext and CM6 doesn't officially support it
Are there any great improvements in CM6 over CM5? Also how much danger is there in flashing Danger SPL.
Fastboot screen is:
HBOOT-0.95.0000 [this is stock spl right?]
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.23.02 [I believe this is compatible with Danger SPL]
Also, do Nandroid backups backup the SPL, because I'd like to keep danger SPL in case I want to go back to CM5.
I have RA-dream-v1.7.0 recovery.

In my opinion, CM5 is better in terms of speed and stability than CM6. I've always had problems with Froyo ROMs slowing down over time, and it is quite annoying. The only Froyo ROMs that work fine for me are the ones based on AOSP, not Cyanogen. I think it is because of all the extra added on stuff that comes along with CyanogenMod ROMs. If you want a 2.2 ROM, I would suggest either the 2.2 AOSP, or GammaFly.
As far as your SPL goes, yes, you do have the stock SPL. It's very easy to upgrade to DangerSPL, so I recommend that you do it. It will be a lot easier to flash ROMs, since you will not need a modified version for it to install. However, if you want to use a 2.2 AOSP ROM, such as GammaFly, you need to have the latest radio and SPL installed. You can find them here, and the directions are in the post.
Last, your SPL and radio aren't touched when you are wiping your phone, therefore, it doesn't back them up with nandroid. However, no matter what ROM you flash on your phone, you will still have DangerSPL. Once you have it, you have it until you un-root your phone, or change SPLs.
Thanks. Two more quick questions.
1. Do either of those ROMs have apps2ext or do they just have normal Froyo apps2fat?
2. Is the ext partition on my sd card erased when I wipe from recovery?
Edit: Oh and does the AOSP ROM have root?

1. I don't use apps2sd, but I'm pretty sure that the AOSP ROMs have the apps2fat. I think BiffMod might have apps2ext, but I haven't used that either. BiffMod has always run slow for me for some reason, that's why I didn't suggest it.
2. I'm not 100% sure on this one. I'm guessing that if you wipe the ext partition, it takes away the partition. However, I've never really understood if that option in Amon_RA's recovery just deleted the contents of the ext partition, or if it actually erased the ext partition itself. I never really mess with partitioning my SD card and apps2ext, so I don't really know a whole lot about that topic.
And yes, the official AOSP ROM on these forums, and GammaFly both have root. Any ROM you find on here will be rooted.
I like using apps2ext because I can put any app I want (except system apps) on the sd card. From what I understand, you can only use apps2fat with apps that support it.
I also took the chance and did a nandroid backup with and without ext and did a full wipe from recovery. It only wiped all apps in system and some other things I flashed (fixes and such). All apps on the ext partition were still there.
