Most likely if you want to change the trackball color you have to take apart your phone and change the Led light that shines the trackball manually.

I think white led is good and enough.
More colors mean cheaper and shanzhai.

U can always get a nexus one

CDMA Hero has 1 LED
GSM hero Has R, G and B
CDMA Users have no hope for colors. GSM users probably already have something. I only know this because I amtrying to make that damn thing flash when you get a TXT msg. I can only get it to flash once before it craps out
EDIT:
ColorPearl only worked on one model of the peral 8130 I believe.
There is always multi colored sharpies!!!!

97% I never 100% anything.
The GSM hero has folders listed as /LEDS/Red, /LEDS/Green, /LEDS/Blue. The CDMA hero only has /LEDS/
Code:
public static final String GLED_PATH = "/sys/devices/platform/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0066/leds/green/brightness";
The above is from a GSM set of code. They have a /red/ /green/ /blue/. The CDMA just has /LED/
No Colors specified. Then again, this may not pertain strictly to the Jog Ball. I don't have a GSM to know. I am sure that the CDMA does not have these color'd led's

Perhaps this is referring to the top notification LED?

GSM only has a white trackball LED I think.. and only Amber and Green for notification LED.

On my CDMA Hero, under Hancent notification options, it's gives me a choice between Blue, Green, Red, Orange, Magenta, and Cyan. Nothing about the trackball however.
Just my .02

This also applies to GSM Hero, but changing the colour doesn't do anything. It's for G1 support which has the full range of colours.

Maybe HTC didn't remove the original file folders from ADP1 (g1)? For some reason they are still there.

I see the LEDS folder but there's amber, button-backlight, green, jogball-backlight.
I see no Red, Blue
Amber is when ur hero is charging, green when charging is complete. button-backlight -> duh.
jogball-backlight says only backlight, you can set brightness, blink..
So I think there are no colors..

okay to stop that discussion now
hero has white led for trackball and green&red for the led on the top
thats the fact

i think so too. the led is green and red, which mixes to amber/orange. no more colors.

Blue trackball?

Ever since I can remember for the first week I've had my nexus, my trackball has always lit up blue/cyan even without root for any type of notification I had. Yesterday I rooted successfully and tried to use trackball alert to change the color for notifications. After installing the app and patching the framework (I'm running CM 5.0.6) I tried to change the color. When ever I select a color other then cyan, blue, magenta, or white the track ball doesn't light up. No matter which of the four colors that work that I choose to change it to, the trackball always lights up blue.
Today I was out with my friend and noticed his nexus's trackball was lighting up green for new notifications and white for calls, I guess thats normal ; he has root but hadn't changed the colors with trackball alert. I told him about the app and he was able to change to any of the colors allowed in the app.
Is my trackball broken? whats wrong with it?
Thanks

Sounds like all your LEDs aren't firing. If I'm not mistaken, it consists of 3 colors, Red, Blue and Green. Normally, for a stock rom, you'll see white flashing and blue when you're using bluetooth. If all you're seeing is Blue, Green, and everything in between, it sounds like your red it dead. (wow. . . that whole last part rhymed).
how would i go about fixing this?
Just call htc and technical support set up and advanced replacement you need a credit card and the google checkout email. They will guide you through the process. If you want to save some time just tell them you have already done a factory reset and the problem is still there and they will send you a new one and give you instructions on how to return your device to them
Well, my phone is rooted so I don't think they will take it back, will they? Is there any other way like replacing it myself?

[Q] Is it possible to give the trackball on the nexus one a breathing light setting?

I got my N1 third-hand (would you believe it), and am simply blown away by it. I came over from a Nokia 5530, where the touch menu button would light up every few minutes. Is it possible to do this on the N1, at least while the screen is on?
I'm running Cyanogen Mod 6 RC3, and I've ticked the option where the LED works as a breathing light, but it isn't. Please help me, I'm new to all this.
Umm yes go into settings, cyan settings, UI, track ball, and you can set the track ball color for each individual app. So for me texts blink red, missed call blue, Twitter green, etc.
No no I know that and I love it. But is it possible to make the trackball light up every couple of minutes for no reason? It's no biggie, but I think it would make a nice touch.
Send yourself a text message and never clear it. =P

XD. That is one way to go about. I like the humour and friendliness in these forums. It's a great place for beginners like me to get aquainted with our phones.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can have the track ball flash all the time for no reason. Did you check all the settings?
Edit: I thought I saw a setting for this but now I can't find it. Maybe it doesn't exist...?
There is a setting, but it doesn't seem to work. Then KIagain, I am getting poor battery life compared to my Nokia, so no breathing light is both a blessing and a curse

ive got the same problem, there is an option in in the ui settings that says always pulse, but it doesnt seem to work for some reason. does anyone know if there is a fix for this
There is a free app in the market called LED Disco that will flash your trackball any color you want(as long as the screen is timed out)
You pick the colors via settings. You can have it cycle thru all the colors as well.
It even kills itself when a notification comes in so the notification can take over the trackball color, and then turns itself back on when you clear the notification.

I just downloaded led disco, I am running it to see what happens to my battery life if it doesn't drain it horribly it'll be pretty cool to use on a regular basis
FWIW, whenever I forget to read emails and leave the LEF blinking, when I come back, the battery usage is much higher than the 0.5% I normally get and the battery usage screen claims the "display" has been hogging the power.

App for notification led?

Is there an app that can change the color of ur notification led light. Like on the blackberry?

I dont think thw aria supports different colors led
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Me neither. I feel like i've seen it at green once but i can only recall red...
also i tried an led changer app, and it didnt do anything, so.. i think its safe to say that it doesnt and wont work,
its probably just a single color red LED up there anyways
its Amber/green

ah, my bad:
so then we technically should be able to make it any color in between the two?
I agree about the colors, would be nice to add some flavor. It all depends on the chip-set of the led, some have one or more with which it enables a photon beam of light to pass through.True color changing led's have several diodes incorporated into the led.
If we could get them to flash repeatedly for notifications that would be awesome

There is is app available on the Droid market called LED me know. It doesn't support multiple colors, but it does let you change how often the LEDs flash. I just got my Aria from using a palm treo pro, I loved that I could set it to make the beacon light up. LED lets you get the LEDs at the bottom of the screen to light up. It does have faults... most task managers kill the app and it stops the home keys from lighting up sometimes. Hope this helps.
There's a hidden feature in CM7 that lets you change LED color and frequency by application. I found it searching for launchable apps in Minimalistic Text Widget. Still just red, green and orange work, however.

[Feature Request] LED Customization

I have a request for any and all devs. I would like to see a feature (in either a rom, theme, or just an app) where you can change how the one LED works.
More specifically, when it's charging it has the amber color lit up... but when you get a message, nothing changes. So I think it would be nice that when charging and you get a message or whatever, it starts blinking green... instead of just a solid amber color.
Think it can be done?

It definitely can be. I remember a mod like that for the HTC hero... only thing you can't do is change the color cause of the type of led it is (not an RGB led)

question is if your rooted or not?
If you are
then visit here:

If not...
Then Go root it.
Thanks for the reply. I'd rather not switch to CM7, I don't really care for their roms.
Anyone want to make a good dependable app for this? Haha

I'm rooted. And that app isn't on the market anymore, and I can't download it from that site. :/
Try light flow in the market. You can shut off the led while charging but still get led notifications.

LED Notification

Is there a way to change the flashing green LED notification to RED for all incoming messages/notifications? I've tried light flow but couldn't get it to work.
Not that i know of. Havent seen anything mentioning that ability in the 3 months ive been here.

If you use an app like Notify or SMS Popup, you can then configure the notification given for a particular event and specify the LED color. You could configure them all to red.
I use SMS popup and I can confirm it works for custom notifications as I have mine set for green color from one person and red color for another person. That way I know who texted me just from the LED color if I didn't respond initially.
