Is there an app or even a script that can be ran that will block all forms of communications (sms, mms, call, voicemail, everything) from a particular number?
There is someone bugging the crap out of me, and I would imagine with a rooted phone, that there is a way to block a number.
just call tmobile and have that number blocked. problem solved. I have done it before.
They told me they can't. Should I just hound them about it and get "in their face" about it?

pshhh i think your giving him too much credit.....I mean what has he really done? Made a theme? A ROM? nooooob
EDIT: If you gave them your Google Voice number, you can block them by marking that number as spam.
You can use your phone to block that number on your blacklist. Its located in Settings>Call Settings>Blacklist (on cyan)
Just enter the number (its a specific format, test with another number first) and set it to disconnect. Don't know how to block numbers from SMS through android just yet

thank you, i will look into it.
The reason t-mobile said they cant is probably because you have a regular plan without Family Allowance in it, which allows you to block any number you want by signing in at t-mobile.com or you have Even More Plus Plan, which Family Allowance CANT be added..

Very nice, I've been looking for an app like this for a while now. Just input a # you don't want to receive calls from and it will be blocked. Requires root, though.
Sure, you can use the built in "Send to Voice Mail" feature in Contacts, but that's not a good solution because 1) It clogs up my voice mail inbox and 2) I get an almost as annoying text notification every time someone that I have chosen to send to VM tries to call me.
The app is still pretty new, so it's lacking a few features I would like (such as regexp patterns), and I'm not sure it'll block text messages as well (which would be nice), but it's definitely a very good start.

I just downloaded it gonna start putting number in it. Do you know if you can use it to block unknown numbers?
I haven't actually tried blocking my home phone in it to try it out for myself, but supposedly what this app does is to send the caller directly to voice mail, just like the feature that's already available to us in the default contacts app. That's not quite what I'm looking for, as that means I will still get those annoying notifications and the voice mail inbox will (might) get clogged up.
Perhaps what I'm looking for is just not possible, but simply put I want an app that interceps an incoming call/text, cross-refs it against a black list, and if it's a match - mimics a red phone button press (decline)/refuse the text message - all within a few milliseconds. It would also be nice if it stopped the number from getting logged in the call log.

I'm pretty sure that what this application does is to receive the phone call (it may do half a ring) and immediately answer it and hang up. This should avoid the problem of sending it to voicemail.
i have been talking to the dev since release, the callers do NOT go to voicemail so it won't clog your voicemail manny.
also it cannot be used to block Unknown numbers so fo that you would need to write your app(i am trying but it is very hard to do when you don't know exactly what you are doing). but the dev claims that if you put in 1800 in the block box then it will block ALL 1800 numbers that call you. seems pretty good but i haven't been able to test it yet(crazy ex might have finally gotten the hint)
EDIT!! as soon as i posted this i got an update on it and now you are able to choose between unknown numbers or blacklisted numbers, i suggested checkboxes to select both, as well as text message block, but i am not sure how possible that would be

Really? I use the built in feature and I don't get a text when someone on my blocked list calls. It will show up in the call log but I don't get a text or notification unless they leave a VM.

^^^That is cool let us know, I am willing to test it. The developer has stopped updating this app.
Good to hear your making a new app. This one bugged me as it wouldnt block 1-800 type numbers..
Yes!

I am being terrorized by my provider who sends me 200 times a day the same sms and isn't able to stop that.
Is there any app or function to block unwanted sms?
If not, I'd pay 10 $ for anyone who can make a little app for me, in which i just enter a phonenumber, hit enter and never will notice anything of an sms coming from that sender...
thanks for your help!
Who is your provider? And they're telling you they can't stop their OWN messages from being sent to you?
it's a small german one and yes, they told me, they couldn't do anything to help me...
you should reply with sms barrage if you still have it. thats my answer to everything.
No i don't have that app and actually i also can't get the point, why i should sent spam to my provider...that is a mashine, no one will even notify me.

There is no app out there to block sms. If its from your provider and they say they won't stop it I would switch providers.
and i dont know if there ever will be, and if there is youll need root i bet
the reason i believe this (could be wrong) is that youd have to set all notifications off, and use a app to set notifications, and have it set to if a sms came in from a blacklisted number set by you, then it would not notify you, and then delete it. so in a sence youd still get it, but youd never know
thats the only way i think it would work properly, doesnt sound tooo difficult, but i dont know if there is really a demand for it, if your willing to pay 10 dollars to have it made, talk to androidandme.com, they have bountys for developers to make programs that are requested from users, the current bounty is for a full working quake port to android, they have over $200 going to the developer that makes it first, if they decided to set a bounty for it, and there are others who would like this program, than im sure you could gain some interest there
good luck man
Please try this below and report whether it is working or not as I don't own a android phone
I am still thinking about buying a HTC Dream if blocking of SMS work.
and btw this app is NOT writen by me.

block unwanted SMS
This utility seems pretty neat. I haven't tried it personally, since I'm not interested in a $20 app to do this:
EasyHelper SMS Security 2.2
handheld.softpedia DOT com/developer/EasyHelper-3934.html
"SMS Security can effectively filter all your incoming SMS messages without producing any sound or light indication. It can also hide and encrypt the secret SMS messages."
This would be helpful for those annoying friends who text in the middle of the night, or send useless junk. Also, the security feature sounds helpful for anybody who has something to hide.
Would you like to have a try aFirewall in market? It can block SMS prefectly. I am looking forward to your response. Any comments will be appreciated. Thank you very much.
You can blacklist people with the application chompSMS.

Block Outgoing SMS for android
I'm trying to find an app that will block outgoing SMS to a particular number. I've thought about trying to develop one myself but just reading how to is too complicated for me.
The way i see it the app could run a "if, then" style app. if the restricted number is detected then the app would disable the signal for a period of time (15s or 30s) and automatically delete the message. I'd like to make it password protected.
The reason i want to do this is because I text a few contacts on my phone way too often and would like to disable how often i do so. I've memorized the number so deleting the contact is not an option.

Postman is an Anti Spam application that lets you filter unwanted SPAM SMS.The application filters SMS and makes sure they don't appear in your inbox.
You can also configure the software to block messages from unknown senders or even create a trusted senders list.

I browsed few such apps but couldn't find answer to my question, which is - do these apps just prevent the spam/unwanted sms from appearing in the inbox; but I still have to pay for the text msg? Or do they save me the pain of paying for text I don't want to receive?
aFirewall allows you to configure multi-scenes to block different call or SMS at different time by now. Its features are as below:
1. You can add black number from call log, SMS log, contacts or add it mannually;
2. You can setup aFirewall password to protect your private black list;
3. Unread blocked call log and SMS log notification;
4. Option to disable and enable aFirewall blocking notification;
You can download from market now because it is free. I am looking forward to your comments. Thank you very much.

Looks like a good free app but sends the call to voice mail. Would be better if for an incoming call the phole answers then hands up. This has a two fold benifit, first the spammer is charged for phoning me and second no voice mail.
if there is an incoming call, does the app block the call instantly or will the phone rings then block?
will there be a notification of the blocked calls? coz personally i dun want to see who's call i blocked......

Yeah, I noticed that with other firewall apps too. They all send to voicemail. That's part of the standard OS if you just click "send all calls from voicemail" under the contact for that number.
I want something that blocks them, or better yet - set up a forwarding number for their individual phone#. I'd love to forward the telemarketers right back to themselves. ha.

aFirewall just endCall when the call need to be blocked. Woud you like to let me know the call will be send to voicemail automaticlly when the call was rejected in your operator? That is to say, this is a default configuration of your phone as my Nortel IP landline phone does.
I can add a feature to aFirewall to forward a call to another number when a call was rejected.
Thanks.

If a blocked call was incoming, aFirewall end it instantly and no rings. And no notification was sent to you in default configuration. But your can enable it if you want this. Thanks.
How did you go about hanging up the call on incoming. I have looked into this and from what I can see this is not in the current version of the SDK.
If you could post some code that would be awesome!
Thanks
this app does not work at all....i added a contact to black list and have it set to block both calls and sms, and im still getting the calls and messages from that person... :/
I've been getting spam calls from a certain number. They're pretty annoying. I added the number to my contacts and set it to "always go to voicemail" so that the phone doesn't even ring, but then I still get a missed call message and a voicemail with half of the spam recording. I'd like to avoid that.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to write an app to intercept an incoming call, check the number and if it matches, simply drop/end the call. I think the caller ID whitepages apps intercept an incoming call and look up the number so it must be possible.
I'm actually a pretty experienced Java programmer and have been looking for a cool android app to write, so I'd be happy to give this a shot. Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction of an API and the right magic for the intent filters in the manifest to allow me to grab an incoming call. If I can get a hint in that direction, I think I can probably write the app.
I'd like it to be able to take a list of numbers or a wildcard pattern and either drop the call, forward the call to a specific number, etc. Just not sure what is actually possible to do programmatically. Can anyone familiar with the inner workings of android tell me what is even possible in this regard?
Thanks
You would need an app to answer the call then disconnect.
Drop/Reject call will go to whatever programmed divert is on your acct (voicemail)
I have an app for you, hell you dont even have to download it or install it.. its called the answer and end call button, for the sake of assuming people have below standard intelligence i will include a guide

Have you tried afirewall free off the android Market?
I appreciate what you're trying to do, but it might be easier just to report the spamming number to your provider's nuisance calls department as harassment (assuming you've asked them to stop calling or are on a no-call list).
If in the UK your provider should pursue the matter. I've reported a large number of persistent marketing / spam callers / texters over the years and had several companies shut down and fined (1 to the tune of £50k for repeatedly texting me).
If we were all to do this all the time, eventually the bottom would drop out of the market.

Yes, I called T-Mobile. The rep told me that there isn't anything I can do because the number isn't a proper 10 digit number, so they can't block it. I also reported it to the state (Massachusetts) and federal do-not-call sites but again got replies that there was nothing they could do to track down the caller without a valid phone number or correct company name.
Thanks for the tips -- I'll try afirewall or callwall!

that's a pretty dumb response. If someone is calling you 15 or 20 times consecutively, you don't want to have to answer/end a call every single time. An app would totally make life easier, and will probably try CallWall as well.
answer it, talk to them and request to be taken off of the call list, they legally have to do it and they will never call again, if its automated call the number back and request the same.
There are apps in Google Play
There're lots of apps solve the problem now.
Such as WhosCall, Mr Number, Call Blocker and so on. You can go to Google Play and download it, hope it is helpful for you.
I keep getting texts from +474663. The text says "Content not supported". I have been getting them for months. I get charged for every incoming text receive, (except for my Favorite 5 contacts), so I have to forward the texts to a specific number to get them deducted off my bill. It's a pain in the a** and I would like to stop them.
How do I find out where they are coming from? I did try an app that blocks texts, but it didn't work.
My carrier can't do anything about, I asked them.
Thanks,

Have you test to google that number.
Isn't there some (Who has the telephone number) Internet site in Canada.
A long time ago (2004-2005) had I SE T630 that I failed to set up the MMS with my provider (didn't know that providers could send configurations settings by SMS).
My little sister though loved to take photos with her Samsung phone and send them as MMS to me. My provider then sent a SMS telling me that a MMS had been sent to my number.
Had for two years pre paid with Telenor and they would send me a SMS telling me how much money there was left, after each outgoing call and SMS.
Resulting in my simple SE T280i's SMS inbox was filled and also had missed "more or less important" SMS.
(After some time I stopped looking and erase the providers SMS's, resulting that "new messages icon" always was visible).
I still have the provider (now Halebop) to send a SMS when a certain amount of money been spent on calls and messages per month.

Yes and no. The first thing I did was Google the # and got no decent result.
So I guess there isn't any solution to this problem. People can just text anonymously and get away with it. I can't believe in this day of technology a person has to be subjected to crap text messages and has no recourse.

u gotta call your cell provider , and ask if you bought any service from anyone , they maybe even taking your money !!
and while ya at it , they can block the number for you too ..
If you have AT&T you can call them and tell them you want to block a specific number and they'll block it so that when that person texts you, AT&T will automatically send them a reply that says "this number is out of service" or something similar, and you'll never get their texts and won't be charged. Most providers probably offer something like that. I know this because back in college one of my girlfriends' moms didn't like me and blocked me so she couldn't text me lol.

Since you said "Fav 5" I am guessing that you are with T-Mobile. I worked for T-Mobile in the highest tier as a tech. This number is obviously a short code and even though they don't have a system that allows blocking of sms from regular numbers, they can block short codes. Did it all the time myself. Call tech support tell them that you are receiving short code sms and have tried to stop them and it needs to be blacklisted. They will be able to see where they are coming from (they may not tell you) but they can blacklist it.
